The daily specials are special. Not the greatest atmosphere, but the service is top, the food over the top!

I had brunch here last weekend and it was definitely a treat! Ok, so I don't like eggs (weird I know...) so breakfast and brunch is usually complicated since the menus are most often 99% eggs.
So I reverted to my brunch backup French Toast with a side of bacon (mmmmmm bacon...). Il Primo does an amazing Bailey's infused creame french toast with homemade italian bread. The bacon was served crispy and the coffee was good.
Definitely a great place for brunch in Little Italy. -

The manager is a friend, so I am completely biased. For me, the service and food is always excellent. However, I am very grumpy on the issue of creme brule and Il Primo does an excellent one -- white chocolate base. The portion size is a little larger than average (too bad!). The burnt sugar coating is perfect and the consistency of the custard is thick but not gelatinous.
Go there for a little grappa and a dessert and say hi to Red (Glenn) for me. -

The service and appetizer were excellent.
Unfortunately we were seated in a not so great spot, but I won't deduct any points here.
The main course was disappointing. I had ordered the pork loin special, well it was more like a fatty pork chop. The sides were good though.
Would come back and try out the pastas. -

Il Primo seems to get overlooked as one of the restaurants to go in Little Italy. Probably the best feature of this restaurant is the staff. I think I've only encountered two different waiters every time I've gone, but they're both very professional and accommodating, but surprisingly candid once you grow comfortable with them. The food is also delicious and I'd highly recommend the Piemontese, which is a potato gnocchi with cambozola cheese, sausage, apple, leek & cream sauce. The rest of their menu also consists of items like this that take an extra creative step away from traditional Italian dishes. Their food isn't extremely cheap, but it's what you'd expect at a restaurant on Preston (i.e., $15-$20 main course meals).
For a great night on Preston, reserve a couple seats at Absolute Comedy and then head over after your meal. -

My friends and I were visiting and landed here. What a wonderful restaurant. We had the round table in the middle and spent the afternoon laughing & eating amazing food. Chatted with the owners who are so genuinely personable and generous that anytime I am in Ottawa here is where you will always find me. Thank you for the wonderful time.
