It was time to take my 87 year old auntie out for lunch again. A daunting task because she hates everything. I couldn't decide until the last minute where we should go. "Il Forno" just sort of popped into my head.
I had not been there in 7 years. Time to check it out. It's super clean. Nice windows. Great food. Decent service.
I had the ragu over spagetti. Wonderful cheese!! Auntie had the penne aurora. A tasty rose` sauce with fresh basil. We were given a delicious bread basket . Too much food for us gals to finish. We were offered boxes to carry away. The plates were between $9-$13.00. We arrived at 11:45 when there was only one couple seated. The place was packed within 30 minutes. It is very popular. The music was a bit loud for auntie. She's quite jumpy. Overall, she was pleased with the meal as is always evident when she pays!!!
There is a mess in the parking lot due to construction. -

I travel allot and love Italian food, but today I wish I had gone to the olive garden as this place is worse. Horrible service, and the pasta gave me indigestion. The couple at the table next to me left when their meal was finally brought out after a long wait. Going to be a long night in the washroom. Worst Italian restaurant I've ever been to, hands down.

Very swell restaurant.
Prices were only fair but they had some cool menu selections (like Italian ice cream for dessert). When we went, however, they did not have their famous brick oven going. You can only get brick oven pizza in the evening so make sure you time when you go there if you're looking for some fresh Italian made pizza.
Also, found trouble finding where it was. It is hidden farther in that plaza parking lot, off to the far side. If you're approaching it from an avenue you have to turn into the main plaza parking lot to find it. -

Thursday is that point in the work week we really can use a break away. Il Forno is the perfect place to feel like you have slipped through some time continuum warp to a gentler time and place that isn't as raw and edgy as the proceeding days of the week. This is a THURSDAY evening review of Il Forno because on that night they have the regular dinner fare but they also have a harpist playing all evening at the ristorante. He plays beautifully, melt your stress away creating a Thursday evening mini-vacay~ can this really be Edmonton as we head into the winter sort of evening. I'm all for ambience and food and the Thursday evening helping of wood fired pizza, glass of wine and music is just a perfect way to reconnect with my inner want-to-be-on-vacation adolescent and the real time adult who still has one work day left in the week. Check out the menu and pricing on-line, take someone you love to be with and try the restaurant on a Thursday evening and slow down. Service was very friendly but not in any rush. Perfect.

I've heard many good compliments about Il Forno: friendly service and terrific pasta. I tried it out myself recently and couldn't agree more. The servers are relaxed yet they bring out your food quickly; there was very little wait time between the appetizer and main course. The same can't be said about the menu selection- there are about 4 pages of tempting appetizers, pasta, pizza and entrées, so the selection process can take a while.
Il Forno means oven, a direct shout-out to their wood-fired pizza oven. As such, if you're ever stuck on menu choices, I highly recommend their pizza. Thin-crusted, crispy, freshly baked in their wood-fired oven, and is not crowded with toppings, their pizza is not what you would find at Pizza Hut or Pizza 73. Note that this is only available during the evening, not during their lunch hours unfortunately. If you still can't make up your mind, the daily specials are written down on a white board and carried around the restaurant.
Il Forno serves dishes that proves you don't need a lot of complex ingredients to get a lot of flavor. Reservation is recommended as it gets really busy during the weekends. -

Il Forno is a nice casual restaurant in the Jasper Gates shopping Centre. I came down here for lunch, got a seat right away. Inside it's rather spacious, and quite bright a cheery. It's a little to bad the only view outside the window is a parking lot, but that's unfortunately the downfall of many restaurants in Edmonton. I had a pesto pasta with anchovies, that was a little salty (to be expected with the anchovies) but pretty good. I gave Il Forno three stars not because it's a bad restaurant, it just isn't the best Italian restaurant in town. Still if you're in the area and looking for a place to eat Il Forno is a good choice.

Il Forno is one of the city's most popular Italian restaurants. It is rather upscale on the inside, and serves a variety of pastas and pizzas. It is also rather pricey, so be sure to bear that in mind. The pizzas are authentic Italian wood-fire cooked, and I enjoy the pizzas much more than the pastas. Like Jeanette, it takes a lot to excite me about a pasta from a restaurant. They are flavourful, but like I said before, a bit on the pricey side and not really all that special. Definitely consider reservations if you plan on going around meal times, or on the weekend.

I wouldn't call Il Forno fancy, but I would call it nice and somewhat romantic. I have only been here once, and I have only good things to say. The atmosphere here is relaxed, the servers are friendly, and the food is worth what you pay for it. And it it's that expensive, really. When my husband and I stopped by for a quick bite, we ended up paying $40 tab, which is reasonable. I ordered minestrone soup and antipasto plate, while my one and only went for Margarita pizza. Everything was excellent! The soup was hot and savory, and accompanied by parmesan crostinis. Antipasto plate was meant for sharing, and share we did. All meats on the plate were fresh, and tasted just as great as the ones that are sold at the Italian Centre Shop. My husband's pizza was amazing: light, crispy, not at all greasy.
Il Forno serves authentic Italian food which can be described as follows: simple ingredients and tons of flavor! -

I went here awhile back for a family dinner. The lighting is dark but it was very cozy and warming. That is the only upside to this restaurant unfortunately. The service was horrible, the food was average and overpriced. Also, we found out after the bill came out that there is no free refill on soft drinks. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you want average food with a high price tag.

If you're looking for a romantic, yet fun and friendly Italian restaurant, then Il Forno is the place to go. This place gets very busy, especially on the weekends, so be prepared to wait. I'm not really big on ordering pasta from a restaurant, but I decided to go with that here. It was very garlicky and flavourful, but honestly, I am never really blown away by any pasta, since I can make some pretty good pasta at home. Apparently, this place is famous for their wood-fired pizza, and I really wish I would have tried that. I'd definitely like to go back someday to try it. While I was here, there was a guy walking around playing the accordion. This definitely added to the romantic and authentic atmosphere. I don't know why, but I always feel awkward around accordion guys--maybe it's some inner childhood phobia. I think I would be safe now though, since I heard they now have a harp player. If you're Celiac, you can request gluten-free pasta. Also, I think this is a place you might want to get dressed up a little for--it's kind of fancy.
