After our first dinner meal at Sushi Village (which was terrible), we stopped by this place to fill our stomachs.

The restaurant was very classy. Everyone was dressed elegantly and the waiters were very charming. There was a pianist who also sang very well. The atmosphere was very romantic.

-lobster tagliolini: this pasta was cooked al dente and the dish was light. Perfectly made.

-dungeness crab cake: this was small but the pieces of crab meat were superb. Yummy. My mouth was filled with strands of crab meat. I'm actually salivating just the thought of this now.

-special menu mussels in white wine broth: we ate the plumpest mussels steamed in this broth...it was the BEST mussels I've eaten my entire life!! Unfortunately, I got full pretty quickly and my belly couldn't take anymore. I definitely need to come back for this special dish.

    5 out of 5!!

Absolutely amazing. Must-trys include the stewed rabbit gnocci and the ceasar (the bevvy) - it comes with a prosciutto-wrapped asparagus garnish.

I can't remember the rest of my experience....the two items above stole the show! If you're in Whistler, you MUST go!

    I'd go 4+ but here's why I only offer 3:

I did my homework, first (thank's other yelpers!) Still, I called our hotel concierge and asked 'her' opinion and advice for Italian dining options in The Village (I knew, in advance, there are other options). She forthrightly recommended II Caminetto di Umberto.....and confirmed a dining reservations within minutes of my inquiry. Thank you!

We had two dining area seating options: the Bar area or main dining room. We elected to be window-side seated in the Bar area - complete with a piano player throughout the evening. Nice touch and not overbearing (DB level), at all!

Our server was most attentive, but not overly so. She made several recommendations for all items on the menu and included a nice description of the evening specials. So: great service and courtesies!

I take 2 stars away: prices are &$#@ high. Our bill for 2 adults, inclusive of 2 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers, 2 entres (no desert or coffee) AND a GST tax was over $150.00. Holy Mother.

All in all, a very comfortable evening but don't leave home with out your MC!

We have been coming to Whistler for many years and I think that this restaurant has always had the most controversial opinions amongst locals and tourists.  I am a fan because i love the Bolognese sauce and the Yukon Gold Gnocchi with Italian Sausage Ragu (which I actually had 2 nights in a row).  My husband had the horseradish crusted black cod with a lamb ragu that he absolutely loved.  For appetizers, I had a salmon carpaccio in soy and truffle oil that was amazing (again, had it 2 nights in a row).  I think the best thing that they did here was the foie gras (yes, had this 2 night in a row as well).

On the down side, when it gets busy, the noise can be overwhelming and the service underwhelming.  The other Umberto's in town (Trattoria Di Umberto) is another option if you don't want to deal with the noise, crowds and want something a little more rustic.

We came here on New Year's eve with dear friends, for an amazing, (sentimental), meal. What we ate blew us away. Thank you Mr. Umberto for a wonderful night.

I took my wife for a romantic getaway to Whistler for the weekend. We wanted to go out for a nice dinner and chose Il Caminetto. We were very disappointed with the whole experience. The waiter was rude, my wife's martini came half full, there were shells in my crab dish and my wife's lasagna was cold overall a very disappointing experience. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. It was the one bad memory from an otherwise great weekend.

We made reservations for a party of 9. After showing up we were told that our table wasn't ready, and were left to wait at the small entrance. Not a problem initially, but half an hour later we thought we were finally being shown to the table, only to be put in the bar. We weren't seated until an hour and a half after our reservation.

After being seated the service continued at a glacial pace. We had to find a waiter to take our order, the food took a long time to show up (we were starving by then). We had to get up and go to the front desk to get our bill at the end.

The food was hit or miss. Soups arrived cold. Some pasta lived up to the expectations of a good Italian restaurant.

Overall we came here for a special event and were spectacularly disappointed. It's very busy, they don't have enough staff, and the staff they do have isn't trained well. We will definitely never return.

Heard mixed reviews about this place but had a gift certificate so we went. Everything we ordered was good but not great. Nothing wow'd me. Started with beef carpaccio and some baked cheese app. Our party of four felt that none of the pasta dishes jumped out as something we had to have, so we settled on artic char, lamb, and steak. We ended on some creme brulee. The only thing memorable from this visit was the service. Loved our waitress. Other than that, I couldn't tell you anything more specific about our dining experience even though it was only a few days ago. It was just meh.

We have come here for many years, so we know what to expect.  Reservations are a must, but don't be in a hurry. This restaurant is usually crowded and noisy; but the wait staff is very attentive without being overbearing or pushy. The Foie Gras appetizer is excellent, but very pricey. (All of the appetizers are about $20, so come prepared.)  We had the Ossu Buco as the Rack of lamb and both were done perfectly.  They have an outstanding wine selection, however the advice the manager gave us on wine didn't work out as well as we had hoped. Our Barolo ($80) while a good match for the Osso Bucco didn't stand up to the lamb. So we had to order a cab by the glass. In summary, consistent excellent Italian food with good salads, appetizers and main courses. Expect to pay around $100+ per person for a full meal. If this is your only "high end" meal in Whistler, you won't be disappointed.
