Once in awhile you just gotta have pancakes or waffles. Not those brunchy type Sunday morning places but IHOP. I'm glad its in the neighbourhood, and it's always crowded. Pancakes and fresh strawberries at truck stop prices in South Granville area.

2 STARS + BONUS 1 STAR FOR NOSTALGIA
New branch in Vancouver with a 20% off for their grand opening promo. I grew up patronizing this chain on our family road trips. How can I pass this offer when I can eat and reminisce at the same time.
Now I'm a family man myself I look back at the cheap thrill and how little it takes to satisfy me. The restaurant staff are busy. The assigned waitress already apologizes for the wait time of the order even before we begin ordering. Uh oh.
They haven't gotten their act together for this branch. Hopefully in time. In the meantime, you can hear people complaining if their long wait. While they have rear parking to the tune of $4.00 an hour. Because of the extreme long wait, I had to buy another hour. They reimburse for parking.
The place decor still hasn't changed. The patrons look the same. And the staff their cheery self.
The food is lined up by the glass window and someone on the mic had to alert the staff to go get them. When ours arrived, the pancaked was overcooked (what happened to fluffy?) and the the waffle was not crispy. The saving grace is the steak omelette and the side of onion rings were perfectly cooked.
It was worth a shot to relieve my road trip dining experience. Don't think I'll be back unless I feel a sense of nostalgia years from now. -

Ye Olde Reliable.
You know exactly what you're going to get when you go to IHOP. We went there last weekend and it was really nice to go somewhere right at brunch time and not have to wait. The servers were actually really friendly and attentive - they didn't interrupt us (we were having a pretty serious heart-to-heart which was obviously emotional) and refilled our coffee and water without us having to ask.
The food was good, the service good and no wait.
P.S. Don't forget to get your frequent diner card - buy six meals get the next one free! -

I normally have a witty one-liner to start my review. However, I've just quit coffee. So my creative side is a bit "out the window" for the time being. I apologize.lol.
I've read the previous reviews and can honestly say I have had different experiences than them. I have been to this new IHOP three times. Mind you, they have all been for lunch or dinner so I cannot speak about the breakfast crowd or how the staff handle that situation.
Service:
Each time we were fortunate to be served by a really nice guy named Paul. If you get him, you are in luck. He is one of the best people in the customer service industry. Always happy and never forgets anything! Now I understand that IHOP prides themselves on happy staff. And at times I've wondered if they have been drugged. But Paul is genuinely a happy person. It isn't forced and it just makes you want to be around him.
Food:
The food is IHOP food. Its not fast food and its not Smitty's or a slightly better, higher up restaurant. But its decent especially for the price. I have heard someone say that their food was slightly burnt. But honestly, it happens. In all restaurants. I once paid $100 for an appetizer and they managed to mess it it. What do you do in this extremely complex situation?....You ask them to take it back and redo it...with the biggest smile possible. If you ask rudely, well I always wonder what else they put on your food. The goal is, be happy even when things don't go your way because that big smile will be the glue that helps to fix a situation. That's just my opinion.
Parking:
It is an issue. Four dollars is insane. I haven't had any line-up issues at IHOP but as I've said before, I don't eat breakfast there. So $4 parking is pretty bad. IHOP should have a free parking somewhere. To me...that should be mandatory to have for certain restaurants.
The parking is why I haven't given it 5/5 stars. Besides that, the customer service has been great for me! The food is what I expect and portion sizes are great! This isn't a fancy restaurant and in other ways its not even Denny's. But its good food, great customer service (thanks Paul) and just a great Dinner experience.

Came here during their early morning breakfast special that I think was a special promotion at this location. $2-$2.99 breakfast. It's IHOP, you're getting what you pay for. I wouldn't come here all the time, but for $2, it's even better than cheaper than McDonald's and you can sit and read a paper comfortably while you eat. The service is also really nice.

2.5 stars
Breakfast in my neighbourhood is somewhat limited, so in general I prefer to stay home. But when the new IHOP opened in the former Rugby bar and grill spot i figured I'd give it a shot.
They had just opened a week or so ago, so had plenty of restaurant opening kinks that I'm sure that they'll work out.
Positives:
- free coffee promotion with every meal (not sure how long this will last).
- bright modern restaurant.
- decent food, pretty much what you can expect from IHOP.
- food came extremely quickly (almost scarily so). We wondered how they made it so quickly...
The Not So Positives:
- The restaurant is on the second floor. There was literally no way for us to get to it from the street with our stroller. The elevator was locked, we had to go around the block.
- We were sat near the back of the restaurant on our request because there was a nice big table where we could park the baby stroller. Despite having essentially enough staff to have one person for every table (empty or full), we weren't served. The reason? Noone was assigned to our section. We managed to eventually flag someone down.
- Lots of staff standing around not knowing what to do. I will give them kudos for making sure they had enough people to serve what would likely be a busy opening...but there was lots of staff that just did nothing other than wander around the restaurant and appear busy.
Anyways, will maybe check it out again sometime. Hopefully by then all of the opening kinks will be sorted out :) -

Memories of giant, fluffy, fruit-compote-soaked pancakes topped with mounds of whipped cream during cross-border shopping trips as a child had me super excited to make a stop at the long-awaited Vancouver location of IHOP. I knew that returning to IHOP for the first time as an adult (with what I hope is a somewhat more discerning palate...) would probably be a disappointment. This is probably what has kept me from heading out to the 'burbs to one of the many other locations already in the Lower Mainland to satisfy my craving.
Fortunately, I ended up feeling more underwhelmed than disappointed with my first IHOP experience in more than a decade. At least I knew what I was getting into - unlike the kiwi couple at the table next to me expecting to be served real maple syrup with their pancakes. Of course my pancakes weren't as big as I remember, the fruit wasn't as sweet or as plentiful as I remember, and the whipped cream (unmistakably from a can) now just seems ill-advised. However, for eleven bucks, I got just what I wanted: self-poured bottomless coffee, soggy/greasy hash browns, two wrinkly sausages, two sad-looking eggs, and double my normal intake of sugar for the day in one meal. The service was prompt and friendly (in that "I'm just happy these people aren't being complete dicks to me" way that only 16 year old servers can provide). Perfectly acceptable hangover food, and just crappy enough to remind me that maybe life really does get better as we age.
I will never understand why so many chains like IHOP choose to go for bland, beige, 'contemporary' interiors rather than playing upon the imagery associated with their brand. IHOP could easily capitalize on that childhood excitement I'm sure countless others experienced by using some of the bright red, white and blue of the logo on the inside of their restaurants. They could exploit the nostalgia by appealing to the kid inside all of us rather than trying to appeal only to my grandmother's sense (or lack thereof) of style. Maybe that would distract me from the nagging suspicion that my whipped cream was *not* actually made of dairy... -

We arrived to IHOP and noticed there was a line up. It was 11:30am. We got a number and were called to a table in less than 10 minutes. The hostess was friendly and thanked us for waiting. My boyfriend and I ordered a quick 2 egg breakfast and a pancake combo within 5 minutes. When a half hour passes by our server comes over to tell us our food is coming right up. A few minutes pass and we see 2 other tables who sat down after we place our order get their food. When we waved our server down to ask her why that was, our server explains there was a printer malfunction in the kitchen. When we asked to see a manager, we then watched her for the next 2 minutes discuss this to all her coworkers most of which shrugged or too busy to help her. We were approached by a second staff member who ask what the concern was, expressed she was aware of the printer problem and offered to get the manager to rush our order. A few more minutes pass when a manager finally comes to explain that when a printer jams in their kitchen, the orders are printed elsewhere, the person next to that printer is then responsible for delivering the orders back to the kitchen. The manager apologized and told us that she was in charge of redirecting those bills but have not seen our so in fact the kitchen still did not have the order we had placed 40 minutes ago.
The manager did offer to make our food right away at that point however with having to be somewhere in half an hour, that was not an option for us. Before we left, we had to ask to have our parking ticket validated even though we didn't have anything to eat. Wasn't this something they should have offered before we asked?
I have a few concerns for the level of service at this major chain restaurant. Why didn't the server who took our order notice we did not have any food on our table in over half an hour? Maybe if that was determined at an earlier time, the lost bill would have been discovered. Why didn't our server go directly to the manager when we asked to see one? Or how about when paper jams issue occur with orders in a restaurant? Wouldn't one notify all the servers to double check their tables and direct them to advise their guests of a possible delay be the next step?
I'm sure the food would have been fine had we had a chance to eat there today but we would not return or recommend this restaurant to our friends.
