Review from I have something to say... A.
San Francisco, CA
Been coming here for years to get my haircuts, facial and waxing. Maria is awesome. She is always willing to fit me in. Angie is great with the facials as well. The place got a fabulous remodel in 2010. It's spacious with a revamped area for makeup sessions and facials. Oh yes, Maria does wonderful work for special events (i.e. weddings, black tie events, head shots, etc...). I've been coming here since 1995 and will continue doing so!

NEVER, EVER GO TO THIS SALON. ZERO, ZERO, ZERO STARS!!!!
HIGHLIGHTS are literally 4 pieces of tin foil on your head. If you want more it will cost you. Probably per STRAND of hair you want done.
I've only written a couple of positive reviews on Yelp and am not a high maintenance person by a long shot. With that it mind, you're about to be warned as to why ID Salon every persons nightmare.
Let me first say that I was introduced to ID Hair & Beauty thru Dealfind. I bought "the deal". Granted, it was 90% off which was supposed to include a haircut, wash, blow dry and highlights (with the disclaimer that they would charge more for hair that is past shoulder length. Fair enough. I suppose I figured they would expect me to tip on the full value ($310), bringing the bill to around $100 if I tipped 20%. I know myself, and I would have gladly tipped a lot more.
My appointment was at 10 a.m. this morning they weren't even open. Fine. No big deal. After feeding the meter, I walked in and was "greeted" by Helen. Not sure if "we're going to wash your hair now" is actually a greeting, but whatever. I sit down in a chair when the other stylist comes over and shows me hair samples for highlights. Actually, it's just sitting in my lap for God knows what reason, while she was doing other things. It's getting weird but, o.k...
She then proceeds to tell me that she is going to do FOUR highlights. Confused, I said" you mean, some bangs, a little on both sides and some on the back?". "No" she says, "FOUR HIGHLIGHTS". At this point I'm sure I'm misunderstanding what she is saying. Then she goes on to tell me that they normally charge around $350 for full highlights. That the Voucher I bought was only for 4 pieces of tin foil to go on my head!!! I'M NOT KIDDING! As she kept repeating that she wanted to be "upfront" about additional costs, I was getting more and more upset.
I told her that if it were a 5 star hair salon, MAYBE just MAYBE I'd pay that much for highlights. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. She kept going on and on again that every salon charges different rates. Really? I never noticed that over a few decades of going to stylists and salons. Perhaps they should actually check one of them out and price things accordingly? THEY ARE INSANE to think they could charge those rates for a dinky little salon with no reputation and horrible customer service. She continued to explain how "upfront" they are while a few minutes before she went on about how I NEEDED TO READ THE FINE PRINT. Seriously? If you are so upfront, why would I need to do that?
When I got up to leave, I asked for my voucher back, stood in the doorway trying to explain that 4 pieces of tin foil does not, nor ever will be considered highlights. Lastly, she blurted out "it's advertising". Funny, I'd call it selling snake oil.
I FEEL FOOLISH to think highlights means highlights. I didn't care about the haircut, shampoo, or blow drying that was "included". I can't imagine what that would have cost me. Maybe $1,000? Why not? Since salons all charge different rates right? We were the only people in there and the place is a ghost town. I hope it stays that way until they go out of business and this is coming from a person who wouldn't say anything if I ordered a steak and got a chicken wing instead...
I put it under the $$$$ category because apparently that is what they would like to believe they are worth. What do I think they are worth? My 2 cents. Hence, this review.
The WORST experience I've ever had in any salon (throughout my entire life)!
I only feel lucky that she didn't touch a hair on my head. I'll eat the cost of the "deal". In fact, I'd rather be mugged than give ID Hair and Beauty a single dime. I FEEL SO SORRY FOR THE PEOPLE WHO PURCHASED THE SAME "DEAL" AS WELL. I
I promised her I would write a review. I wasted money, time, and energy and wound up with NOTHING to show for it. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE I MADE.
IDEAL DESIGN (ID). There is nothing ideal about it but they definitely have the "DESIGN" of ripping you off down to a science.
If there are any positive reviews on this place it can only be for a couple of reasons: they do their relatives hair or they asked their friends to write something on their behalf.
Oh, and I just contacted Dealfind to make sure they don't pimp this place out to other unsuspecting suckers. -

I have been going here for my facials for the past 10 years. They sell $330 for 10 1-hr facials. Angela and Maria, does a great job taking care of me.
You can also bring anyone else and use one of the 10 facials you bought. I have taken some of my friends there for their birthday or on days that they need some pampering. That's a great way to give as a gift. -

I was in serious need of a hair trim since I'm trying to grow out my hair and wanted to do it the right way.
After spending an hour yelping all the possible salons that were open on a sunday and accepted card which was also in my neighborhood. I finally decided to check this place out.
At first, I though oh great, this is another asian hair salon and felt obligated to go anyway because I had already made an appointment. So I proceeded with the appointment.
Without consultation, they washed my hair!!! I was starting to get a little worried at this point. After going back to the seat, I told the hair dresser that I just wanted a trim and she understood exactly what I wanted.
With previous experience, when I ask for a trim, i lose half the length of my hair but my hair came out looking great! Not only did the trim come out looking awesome! The hair dresser felt that my hair was dry and gave me a conditioning treatment FREE!!!!!
This is definitely a place that I would go back to for simple touch ups. -

I came in here to get my hair done for a special event. I told them exactly what I wanted: a french braid. Now, I'm not a professional hair stylist, but I know that the finished product was definitely not a french braid. While they were in the process of making it, I had stated that a simple long braid was fine, nothing fancy. Don't get me wrong, it looked alright in the end, but my experience there made me wonder if perhaps I was going crazy.
I won't be coming back.Comment from Maria T. of ID Hair & Beauty 9/22/2009

I've been coming to Maria for several years. Recently, I wanted a change to my very thick, plain hairstyle. Maria showed me pictures and we decided on one style that accentuated the shape of my face. She restyled my hair by layering it beautifully! Now it only takes me 10 minutes to style / dry my hair; it used to take 20+ minutes! I've gotten many compliments and people say that I look 10 years younger. She also colors my hair every 4 weeks and does an excellent job.
Also, she has now been awarded the full I.D. Bare Essentuals line at her salon. I will be purchasing all my Bare Minerals, etc at her salon! It is much closer than going to Stonestown! -

I have had bad experiences in the past that I hesitated to try this place. One day after we had dim sum, my mom convinced me to try them out. With reluctance, I went ahead and tried them out. My hair was halfway down my back and I look through the magazines they had and decided to go shoulder length.
Well, my mom was in shock because she didn't expect me to really get a hair cut. After Helen was done, I was not only happy, but have been a loyal customer ever since. Every time I get my hair cut here I have always received compliments.
My daughter had her hair cut by Helen and she too cut her hair short to donate her hair. Helen gave a cute bob and everyone complimented her on how cute the hair cut was. I knew I could trust this place to do a good job.
Highly recommend them to anyone. I have been going here since my daughter was a year old and she is turning 9 this year. -

Bad place to get a haircut unless you like to get ignored. I had gone there to get a cut and color. Over the phone I made the appointment for just that...a cut and color. When I got to my appointment, the person at the front greeted me with "Why are you here?" Not "Hi, how can I help you?" or "What can I do for you?" But "why are you here?" and rather rudely, I might say. When I told them that I had an appointment with Helen for a cut and color, she (I found out later that the person behind the desk was the owner, Maria) yelled out to Helen that her appointment was here for a cut. When I tried to tell them that it was for a cut AND color, she just ignored me. Helen got me about five minutes later as she was finishing up with another person and asked me for the style I wanted. I showed her a picture and she just said "short." Yes, I want it short, above my chin short. The cut I received didn't look anything like the hairstyle I wanted, and it was still the same length as it was when I walked in. I tried to tell her that I wanted it shorter but she cut me off. I just paid my bill and left. Waste of $$$.
I'm taking my business and hair elsewhere. -
