Review from Edward L.
Came here to check out their lunch menu.
Parking isn't the most ample, but if you drive around a bit there is street parking.
The interior looks quite modern, with a bright interior. It was quiet as well, which is nice for conversation.
There are lunch set combos with sushi and tempura and soup, but these are much pricier than the competition, at $10-20. We decided to go for rolls instead.
Gomaee salad - just the right amount of sauce. Sesame seeds sprinkled up top gives it a nice roasted flavour.
Salmon sashimi - decent-sized pieces. Looks like they use the wild type of salmon. Nice strong wasabi.
Chopped scallop roll - dab of mayonnaise on top. No fishy taste, which is always a good thing.
BC Roll - served with a bit of teriyaki sauce on top. The skin had quite a bit of meat still attached, which was nice.
Soft shelled crab roll - nice and crispy but not crunchy. Poor little guys.
One neat little thing here is that they use in-house soy sauce. Guess there must be some miniature soy sauce factory in the back. It tasted pretty good.
You do have to pay a few bucks more to enjoy the food here, but it's a nice treat for sure. -

A close-by favourite of mine. Ichiro offers some of the freshest sashimi around. Their Sockeye Salmon Sashimi keeps me coming back time and time again - like a cat pouncing to the whir of a can opener.
Recently, I tried their Nabeyaki Hot Pot Udon which gave me the delicious treat of chewy, tender udon and a hot, rich broth filled with sweet, fried tofu skin, mushrooms, hard boiled egg, vegetables, imitation crab and fresh, light shrimp tempura on the side.
I always enjoy their tempura because unlike other restuarants, their tempura is full of actual food and not just empty pockets of heavy tempura batter. Their unagi is always soft, flavourful and delicious.
Overall, my love hasn't faded for this restaurant in all my times here. And the service has always been good to me as a couple, a small get-together of 4 or a big birthday dinner of 10!
Note: Make reservations, especially weekends, it gets busy during both lunch and dinner time! Reserved parking for Ichiro customers behind the restaurant too!Listed in: Steveston Treasures

Delicious and has selections and varieties of chef sushi creations but they are expensive. I'd prefer going to Kits or Downtown to pay more than here. Love the food but the price is really rediculous.

It takes a lot for me to give five stars to a restaurant but this one meets all the requirements.
This is some of the best sushi I've had outside of Japan. Their staff are truly masters in the art of Japanese cuisine. Every roll is made perfectly and their menu offers a lot of traditional dishes that you can't get in restaurants today.
Their staff is courteous and really attend to your every need. As a Japanese learner their staff is willing to help you learn how to speak Japanese.
The restaurant is reasonably priced for the high quality dining experience you receive. If I could go once at least once a week, my life would be complete. Really worth checking out! -

NEEDS A KICK IN THE REAR!!!!
Was embarrased to entertain guests at Ichiro this past weekend.
Staff appeared zombie-like - overworked, and downright unfriendly and rude.
The food was mediocre and the SERVICE WAS BAD!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Dan T.
Everything they serve is impeccably fresh and superbly executed, but what is it that I keep coming back for?
The kaisen don.
Heaps of sea urchin are served to you on a bed of rice, barely discernable underneath the surrounding bounty of salmon and cod roe, and crab meat. Not only did all my favourite flavours decide to get together and have a party, but they brought piles and piles of their buddies as well. Awesome.
The last time I went, however, I was a bit unsettled to find my beloved uni replaced with an equally large and delicious serving of chopped scallop instead. But where was my uni?
Apparently, there usual source of uni from Boston was out of season, so they were just awaiting a potential replacement from California. However, they were unwilling to commit to when the uni might make a return appearance: they still had to taste test and approve the quality of the potential new source, and if not up to their standards, then hold uni off their menu until a suitable replacement could be found.
I was admittedly disappointed to leave that day without my anticipated uni fix, but at least I did leave knowing that yes, this is definitely a place that takes their sushi seriously, and that the next time I come back and have the kaisen don again, it will be always be GREAT. -

TERRIBLE SERVICE. Food can be great, but mediocre at times as well.
"The restaurant is full so service doesn't have to be great type-attitude!"
After raving about this place on here, and to friends and family I have to say outright that the service here is consistently bad.
APPALLING BAD SERVICE!!!!
The servers all seem too busy or overworked. A real shame. Used to be one of my favorites, but no more.1 Previous Review: Show all »

By far the best sushi in Richmond. The service though tends to be temperamental.

Very good sushi in a sea of mediocre sushi joints. Fresh high qaulity food is the main diffrence. Most places pump out the food at a price point and make money on volume.........Walmart type thinking.
At Ichiro I feel like they really care about the food they serve and know how to make it.
Well worth a try it is on our top five of Sushi places in BC.
Bonus is Steveston Massage Therapy is right accross the street!!!!! -

Ichiro is a family favourite - whenever my parents are in town, we would go to Ichiro for some good sashimi and grilled fish. I love every item on the menu, prawn gyoza, unagi omelette, oyako don, etc. My dad loves their dessert - "doraemon" - which is a deep-fried Japanese red bean cake topped with icecream. He likes it so much that he is always reluctant to share :) One of the waiters once told me they get fish delivered every Wednesday so if you want some fresh sashimi, go on weekdays! All the good fish will be sold ou by the weekend!

We have a lot of Japanese restaurants in Richmond. I believe this is a good one in Steveston area even though is quite far a way in the city.
The menu have a lot varieties with nice pictures. They also have daily & chef special. The prices are cheap with quality of food. In addition, the waitress was very attentive.
Sockeye salmon sashimi - it's ok, pretty standard
Hamachi sashimi - it's ok, the slice quite thin.
Tako sashimi - Pretty fresh and tasty, also the slice very thin.
Beef tataki - Not fresh and too tender, quite disappointed.
Hamachi Kama - It was on special but the portion very tiny.
Chawanmushi - it came in 2 bowls of steamed egg tofu, quite watery.
Ika sugata yaki - Grill squid was the best.
Chopped scallops cone - it was tasty and seaweed was quite crispy.
Ebi tempura - it pretty good. -
Review from Grayce E.
I would say one of the better sushi places in Richmond. The sushi chefs are Japannese which for me is usually a sign of quality (in terms of how they handle raw fish). This restaurant is more of a nice sit down sushi experience rather than the MANY of the eat-and-go sushi places in the lower mainland. I like those places too, but Ichiro is just a bit different type of dinning experience. If you go there order sushi and sashimi as I think their cooked food is only ok.
PS. I think they named the place after the Japanese baseball player! -

The freshest of the fresh with a lot to offer on the menu.

It's the best Japanese restaurant in the Steveston area, but there are better places in Richmond in my opinion. It was busy on Saturday night, with about a 20 minute wait to eat at the sushi bar.
There's a nice variety of fish on the menu and their specials list off some of the things that aren't always available like uni (sea urchin), aji, etc... Chefs are pretty friendly at the sushi bar and give you a complimentary salad while you watch and wait.
I had the ichiro sushi special which had a great mix of fish for 8-9 pieces of sushi - salmon, tuna, unagi, yellowtail, aji, uni, etc... most of my faves! An O-toro roll finished off the plate... good value at just under $20.
I sampled some of hubby's orders including the spring rolls (very light and great crunch!), spicy salmon roll (they use an unusual spicy sauce but it's still tasty) and their large yellowtail tempura roll with cream cheese and jalapeno - this was very unique! I haven't had anything like this before and it was fun to watch them use a handlheld torch to mold the cream cheese to the top of the roll... it's unique and neat mix of flavors.
The reason I don't think they warrant 4 stars is that some of the fish cuts were a bit harder to bite into than usual and the roll cuts/wrapping isn't as polished as my favorites in Vancouver/Richmond. -

A varied menu, catering to both raw fish, meat & veggie eaters. A good place to take kids. The food's not the best available, however, and the service can be slow at times.

This place is packed usually. The first time we came around 7:30 and the wait was probably 30 to 45 minutes. We decided to come back another day right when they opened for dinner.
We ordered their salmon sashimi, spicy tuna roll, chopped scallop roll, and the steveston agedashi tofu. The sashimi was interesting - very different from other places. It was a lot firmer and sliced thinner than most places. The spicy tuna roll wasn't super spicy. The sauce they put on it was very different than most though - it was almost sweet while maintaining some spice. The chopped scallop roll was decent. The steveston agedashi tofu was really good though! It was the regular tofu mixed with different types of fish all fried together.
All in all, everything was good. Service was fast and very polite. I loved the green tea they gave us. I'll definitely be back to check out some of their other offerings.
Note: Despite what it says, they actually are open 7 days a week now. Make a reservation if you are going during peak dining hours! -

Food was excellent! They had a chef's special menu with items I had never even seen before which makes me think they come up with thier own creations in house.
We got seated quickly ( only 2 of us) considering it was very busy Sat night dinner rush. Staff was very freindly too.
Once we ordered it seemed to take a little while for the food to come out, but it was worth the wait and the hot food was hot and cold food cold.
Pricing was decent considering it is a higher end place. Would definatly make this place my new go to sushi place as well as a great place to take guests too. -
Review from Larry L.
Grandma wanted to eat and she wanted her favourite place, Ichiro's. I was supposed to fast and be careful what I ate cause I was getting bloodwork done the next day. I also worry about my carb intake and was extra concerned about my blood sugars that night. So I knew I couldn't eat sushi,(haven't had that in awhile!) and salty stuff and sweet stuff were out. So is fried food.
What could I eat? After having explained to our hostess my situation I decided on the Mushroom (veggie) Nabe (pronounced: Nah Bay). Boiled vegetables in a kelp broth. I asked for no salt and no sugar, it was very plain. Very plain , but for me it was perfect!!!
Trying to eat healthy and also continue to go out to dine is always a challenge. Most times dining out you end up tossing out your needs for just what's available and bite that bullet. Every now and then you'll find something that you will actually want and with a few suggestions and explanations why. You can get it. You just have to be patient and understanding.
At Ichiro's. I got what I asked for. I'm thankful.
My son had the Ichiro Don which he loves. It's an assortment of fried goodies (chicken, tempura etc) on top of rice. Granny had Tonkatsu Donburi which she said was very Oishi (delicious)!
A great neighbourhood Japanese restaurant. Always busy with a good vibe of politeness and culinary simplicity. The Japanese way.Listed in: Steveston Village

Authentic and reasonably priced. Great Japanese food (not just 'sushi') without the pretentious pricing. In fact, it's worth going there to *not have sushi*... there's so much more to Japanese cuisine. The menu is varied and they'll highlight stuff that's fresh in season as well.

i found this place to be ok, i don't know why many people are crazy over it (including some of my friends). There wasn't anything special about their boxes, i ordered an udon one time and it was meh. Also ordered the veggie hotpot and the soup could have used more taste.

Excellent service, VERY fresh food and is also an extremely clean restaurant. Very comfortable for families and the food is reasonably priced. All table locations are great and there's so much to do within walking distance of the restaurant.

Ichiro is the BEST place for japanese food.
#1, not to be racist but it isn't owned by chinese people so generally that makes it unique from practically all the other sushi restaurants in Vancouver/Richmond. Everything they make is different from the average/typical sushi places around town.
#2, their sushi is soooo fresh, and they have the best green salad dressing
Tip: Another awesome place is their other location Takeya Sushi at #1 and Francis, it's more casual/in-and-out w/ WAY cheaper pricing of the exact same things on the menu as ichiro. Ichiro is their sit-down fancier setting so they up the pricing of their menu.
