As always the food and the service is amazing. I never visit Whistler without visiting Hy's Steakhouse.

Mixed opinions on different elements of the dinner led to an overall 3-star rating.

Room is very steakhouse -- wood paneling, low light, and lots of sumptuous fabrics.  Not exactly cool, and a bit passe, but 'high end' nevertheless.

Our server was an absolute dipshit.  He must've had an ounce of weed in his ears because he didn't have a clue of what we'd order, or what was on the menu.  Whistler staff can be frustrating at the best of times, but this shmohawk too the (space) cake.  Dude came and grabbed my friends plate of oysters before he'd even finished them, and sort of argued that 'we looked like we were done' before bringing back some fresh ones.

The steak was good, as was the casaer salad, but the fried chicken was an absolute disaster.  Yes, ordering fried chicken at a steak house in Whistler is a risk, but at a reputable place like Hy's you'd assume they could at least follow a recipe.  What was referred to as 'buttermilk fried chicken' was certainly not.  It was rather bone-in schnitzel (which might have been a good dish in itself, but unfortunately was absolutely inedible).

I wouldn't return, but I think our experience might have been uniquely bad.  The server couldn't still be working there considering just what a mentalist he was, and the fried chicken issue was a fault of our own making.

We were very happy with our excellent meal and service at Hy's on Aug 20th.  We were 4 adults and 5 kids ranging from 2-7 years.  While I think this restaurant would be best enjoyed in the company of only adults, they did an excellent job accommodating us (thank you Claudia....or shoot, was it Claire?).  The restaurant is also very well set up for large groups with many rooms with partial privacy.  We worked hard to keep our little ones amused at the table but appreciated the special kids meals and coloring that was offered to us.  On a side note, we also went early (5:30pm) .
Well worth a try with or without kids.  Oh yes.....and do not leave without having a basked of their famous cheese bread.  Our table ordered six......yes, six.

We had a reservation for 8pm, but not seated until 8:30pm. During that time, the hostess didn't communicate what was going on (let alone like at Vij's in Vancouver, where the owner circulates complimentary appies).

Our waiter was very pleasant, although the service poor. To give him the benefit of the doubt, likely due to having too much to do.  Drinks requested late as was bread, then missed 2nd time.  Mains served 1:20 after reservation of 8pm.

The 'Prawn & Scallop Newburg' was very tasty, but at $39, far too expensive (= $25 in Van).  The $38 Filet a la Hy's served rare, when asked for medium. Tasty, but again overpriced.

Dinner for 2 = $150; 1 appy, 2 mains, 2 glass wine, no dessert. Whistler = $$$$$, but this is ridiculous!

Pros- friendly service, decent menu selection, ok cuts

Cons- seasoning is a little salty on the sirloin

I had the gorgonzola filet mignon, loved it. Wish I had ordered a medium rare instead of a medium b/c it was too warm in the center.

My husband's cut was too salty.

Onion rings were great! Cream corn was not good in presentation and wasn't anything special.

I would go back again but only after trying out some other steakhouses in Whistler.

Just last Thanksgiving weekend, all of our family went to Whistler, and had a dinner here at the Steakhouse. My father-in-law loves cooking steak, so I wanted him to try steakhouse while we were in Whistler. Steak was perfectly grilled as the waiter mentioned, and baked potato and salads were delicious!  Brought out a side of bread before serving entrees, and the bread with butter was fantastic! We will try to go to one in Vancouver downtown which is much closer from home.  Great ambiance and environment! Definitely will be going there on this following trip back to Vancouver!

Food very well prepared, service exceptional, but price tough on the wallet

Excellent steaks that were cooked to perfection. The bread was memorable, especially the cheese bread. The Cesar salad was custom prepared at tableside and the side dishes were tasty.

I think the meal was just fantastic and the wait staff was very attentive, intelligent and engaging. Nothing but compliments here.

    So, why only three stars?

The price- to- portion ratio was way out of whack for the entrees. The smallest 8 oz cut was over $34. The chicken alternative ( usually reserved for the most affordable option in a steak house) was offered for a cool $31. We ordered the steak and crab legs. For an 8 oz cut and 2 (yes, two) crab legs, the price was $52. This included a potato side but no other side dishes. ouch.

At these prices, I think Hy's should re-evaluate their entree prices or even consider offering a three course meal option at a more reasonable price.

Not worth the money for Whistler's, BC, only big time steak house.

Steaks are salted to death and the potatoes are microwaved.

Waiters are pushy and the wine cost is outrageous!

Too pretentious for my me and my money!

Although we have been coming to Whistler for years, we have never tried Hy's even though we are both huge steak fans.  On a recommendation from some locals, we tried Hy's and i was incredibly impressed!  We started off with the cheese toast which was to die for.  I am not a fan of pre-dinner bread, especially with cheese, as I think it fills you up and messes with my palate.  But, the cheese toast (which the locals also recommended) was warm, light and perfectly "cheesed."  My husband had the carpaccio (another local recommendation) that was divine and came with a lovely spicy mustard sauce.   For dinner, I had the filet which was tender, well-seasoned and cooked perfectly medium rare with a lovely char.  One of our guests had the gorgonzola filet that was very good as well.

The wine list was good and our waiter recommended a Shiraz that was not on the menu to go with our steaks which matched very nicely.

    Great service, great food.

We went there a couple months ago with our children, they were very accomodating, and when they ran out of drawings for the kids to play with, the waiter traced the canadian flag for my son (which is what he was asking for).  It was a very nice experience!

    Great food and service.

Came here on a Saturday night and had no trouble walking in and getting a table soon after ordering drinks at the bar. Friendly bar and wait service. Good selection of steaks. I had a very delicious Filet Mignon with Gorgonzola that was cooked to tender perfection. Also enjoyed the salad, soup and creme brulee.  Just a couple steps off the main walk street in Whistler I would highly recommend Hy's for a good steak dinner.

If in Whistler and are looking for steak - great, mouth watering steak, then Hy's is the place to go without a doubt. A tad pricey but everyone in our party (of 4) LOVED it. We started with the black and blue ahi tuna which was to die for and three out of the party of 4 ordered Filet Mignon with Gorgonzola as our main course which was orgasmic (no word of a lie).
The atmosphere was what you would expect in this type of restaurant and staff were friendly, helpful and funny. We had a very enjoyable evening and continued to rave about it on our drive home a couple of days later as we all considered it a highlight of our trip to Whister.

Ate here for New Years Eve. They had a fixed price four course menu. The service was attentive and our waiter was friendly. The food was good if unexceptional and uncreative.  For appetizer i had the crabcake. It was adequate and Ive had ones with more chunk meat and less filling. For the main course I ordered the ny strip steak. It was cooked medium rare as requested and thankfully not overdone. But it was garnished with some kind of gravy sauce that seemed better suited for mashed potatoes. I ordered cheesecake for dessert and though it was called Hy's Famous Cheesecake, it tasted like any other cheesecake I've had.  I guess that's why I left with a bad taste in my mouth after the bill for two with a modestly priced bottle of wine came to 400 dollars.  For that kind of money I can get a world class meal at a place like Alinea. I did not appreciate that a mandatory gratuity was added even though there were only 4 in our group. In summary, the service here is good, the food is good, but not great, not inspired, and certainly not worth the prices they were charging that evening. But I guess when you come to a place like Whistler you have to expect that you will overpay for everything.

Service was awesome.  Steak was great.  I had a Ribeye that was cooked to perfection.  Our waiter picked out a great wine for us, all in all, a very successful dinner.

Thanks Hy's, I would certainly return.

We came here for appies and wine pairing as a part of Whistler Tasting Tours and the teriyaki steak bites were cooked to perfection.  The steak was still tender, not chewy.  The pan seared ahi tuna was quite nice as well.  I think it was miso-crusted.  The wine pairing was okay.

Excellent service. I can't emphasize that enough. Our waiter (Chad?) was incredibly attentive, friendly, and his suggestions were spot-on.  Good atmosphere, but a bit too expensive, as is everything in Whistler. We had the filet, medium rare. Certainly not in my top ten, but a very solid dinner overall. Be prepared to spend just shy of $200 for dinner for two with all the fixings, cocktails, apps, wine, dessert, etc.
