I am all about stay cations San Diego especially during Spa Week. The blue marbel spa is a wonderful day get away. The staff is 5-star all the way beginning with your first phone call to schedule an appointment. Carley is just as sweet, helpful and accomodating in person as she is on the phone. She welcomed me when I first arrived with a personal tour and clear explanations on everything I could enjoy and expect.

My facial was with Munira and my massage with Cheryl. Each service was pleasant, pampering and very relaxing. The staff goes out of their way to ensure you are provided amazing service.

We grabbed lunch poolside and our server was equally fantastic. Thank you Hyatt and thank you Blue Marble. I will return and I hope the sun comes with me as marine layer was the only regret for me during this day.

Sad but true. Simply cannot give a 5-star rating for this Mother's Day. Yes, the stakes are higher on a holiday weekend and expectations are higher when paying premium room rates.

Not a total flop for my daughter, husband and me, so I will give well-deserved commendations to valet, bell desk, pool towel service & pool lounge, pool slides, check-out convenience options, Einsteins staff, housekeeping friendliness, and a lovely room with a spectacular view.

    Now, the gloom and doom.

    1) This hotel gladly welcomed our 12 pound puppy to stay with us for an additional nightly fee of $50. However, outside of green grassy area, the dog wasn't allowed anywhere on the property. Not OUTSIDE at pool, Pool Lounge dining, or Red Marlin dining. No restrictions were mentioned when I reserved our premium suite. My dog stayed in her kennel in our room for most of our stay. She came out only when we walked her.

    2) Check-in said we couldn't take dog to pool but could sit outdoors with our dog to dine. Red Marlin then said no dogs on outside patio. This affected our Saturday dinner plans and our Mother's Day Brunch plans.

    3) When we got to our room, the balcony was so small, only one person could sit out there at a time. Plus, two lounge chairs were situated there allowing no leg room. One chair was missing its back and bottom cushion. I had to make a call, wait for delivery and tip on something that should not have happened in the first place.

    4) Red Marlin Mother's Day Brunch. Our table was set-up like a cocktail bar or sushi bar. What party of six wants to sit shoulder-to-shoulder? The seating was also set-up at window with backs to the window. Who would rather look at other diners and buffet than the beautiful bay, bougainvillea, blue sky and sailboats?  Granted, if I were first to arrive, I would have fixed it before everyone sat down. How on earth did anyone think this was a good idea?

    5)  Instead of receiving the bill summary by email upon our checkout, we received a check--in notice that our room was ready at 4 pm on Sunday.  We were already at home unpacking.  So, one more phone call to the resort to make sure we weren't being charged for an additional night.  Little disorganized?

    Customer Service Summary...

*I do believe the staff at Red Marlin did their best to resolve the table seating issue. The staff was gracious and courteous. Offered a significant discounted meal and I appreciate that gesture tremendously.

*I wasn't so pleased with manner of hotel manager, though.

    Questions to ponder...
    -Quality control in room maintenance?
-How can a resort welcome dogs to room but not be a pet-friendly hotel?
-Are smokers more welcome than pets?
-What are state health codes regarding dogs and what are Hyatt rules & regulations?
-Why would anyone want to dine without a view?
-Should I still keep Red Marlin as a venue for a party of 10 Laughternoon Dahlings brunch planned for June? Hmmmm
-Why was last years Mother's Day Brunch and Easter Brunch the year before, at the same place, extraordinary?

I have only written a few less than stellar reviews (i.e., not 5-star).  I don't like to waste my time!  However, I believe branding and reputation are important, especially with these world-wide and well-known hotel chains. My expectations are directly linked to what I pay. I like Hyatt Regency, Hilton, and JW Marriott. I love Four Seasons & Ritz-Carlton even more. I can just as easily enjoy B&B's at reduced rates. I'd like to find the best kid-friendly and dog-friendly luxe resorts. Send recommendations my way, please!

If your intention is to have easy access to SD downtown, this would probably not the ideal hotel.  But if you want to relax and kids can enjoy (heated pool with 3 water slides!), in the meantime you're not too far from downtown, this hotel is perfect for you!  The hotel is surrounded by bay so it has gorgeous view.  It is only 10-15 mins driving to downtown (gaslamp quarter, seaport village).  My family (kids are 5-7 yrs old) had a blast staying in this hotel!  Everyday they went water slides, sometimes even twice a day!  My husband and I were able to relax on the pool side (water is not that deep, approx 3-4 ft).  In the evening there's a bonfire area next to the pool and kids can roast marshmallow!  I planned to visit few places in San Diego and turned out we've only visited 2 out of 4 places because the kids just wanted to stay inside the hotel.

Oh did I mention the hotel is very close (5 mins drive) to Mission beach?  Really nice beach that kids also had fun there!

We got the deluxe view room for approx $150/night (not including tax and parking) for 4 nights.  The room has a balcony with gorgeous bay view (ask for higher level and closer to the bay, not too close to the road side).  This price is not bad for spring break season at all.

Hotel employees are super friendly!  Will definitely choose this hotel when we go to SD again!

Great location! Fun pools and watersides, fire pits at night, corner suites in tower are great (ask for ocean view instead of bay view).  Bring your own making for s'mores to save some money.  Great snack shop on the harbor to get breakfast and enjoy the view.

We had purchased an online deal promoting 66% savings on a 4-star luxury resort -- but our room was certainly not 4 stars.  Paying the price we did was just barely fair, but by no means a deal.  If I had paid full price, I would've been irate.

    - Front desk directed us to the wrong room
    - Front door light was off.  Inserting the key was very difficult in the dark.
    - Main interior lamp had a dead light bulb, so we had to stumble for another light
    - Ground level view of a dark parking lot
    - Carpet looked dirty
    - Bench seat was missing a back cushion
    - No fan in bathroom
    - No table
    - Overpriced amenities:  $20/night self parking.  $2.75 for water bottle.  No free Wi-Fi.  Pricey room service.

I'm sure they have nicer rooms.  And we did appreciate the pool and beautiful location.  However, unless you're visiting Sea World, this location is not near any restaurants or other popular sites.

This hotel feels like it is in Maui. The gardens are beautiful, the rooms are beautiful, beds are comfy, showers are AMAZING, rooms are clean, all services perfect!

My hubs and I came to California for a 2 week trip, and this was easily the nicest hotel we stayed in out of the bunch (we moved around from city to city).

They have a few restuarants onsite as well, Red Marlin, and Einstein Bagels (which I adore). The pool area is beautiful, and the gym boasts incredible views of Mission Bay.

We go to San Diego quite a bit, and we will be regulars at this hotel.

Very nice hotel, in a great location.  The rooms are clean, large and comfy.  The pool area is really great with 3 pools, water slides and a jumbo hot tub.  Food right onsite with room service, Very friendly staff and great amenities.  Price is a little high but it's to be expected being a Hyatt.

All in all a great place to stay close to Sea World and OB and PB.

My husband and I recently got married at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina on 3/24/2012.  The ceremony and reception sites were gorgeous and the customer service provided by the hotel from planning to execution really exceeded all of our expectations in every way.  For any brides-to-be out there, Hillary (catering manager) and the rest of the Hyatt staff provided excellent customer service, were very responsive and on top of all deadlines, willing to work with us, and did a great job on the day of the wedding.

At first, I thought that the venue would be out of our price range, but we reached out to the hotel on a whim just to see if they might have any off-season specials.  We were promptly contacted by Hillary, who brought us in for a meeting and to show us around the grounds.  I guess the hotel was recently renovated a few years back - the grounds are very beautiful and there are very many great photo op places for wedding photos.  The hotel did have some pretty good off-season specials and was willing to work with us as the initial quote was slightly above our target budget.  We ultimately booked the Banyan Court lawn for the ceremony and the (seasonal) Regatta Pavilion for the reception.

As part of the package, the hotel comped us a free suite overlooking Mission Bay on the day/night of the wedding.  My husband and I decided also to book a room at the hotel for the night before (we received a free suite upgrade for that day, too) and have all the bridesmaids get ready in the suite on the day of.  The night before the wedding, we were pleasantly surprised when the hotel sent us a complimentary bottle of wine along with some cheese and a nice note congratulating us and thanking us for choosing the Hyatt.  On the day of the wedding, everything went perfectly.  Hillary and Barb stood in as "day of" coordinators, getting everything ready and everyone in the right place.  They were very patient with us, promptly kept us apprised of cocktail hour bar tab as we had asked them to do, and were patient with some of our last minute A/V requests.  The food was delicious as well - a guest favorite was the Grilled New York with Cabernet Reduction.  At first we were worried that the execution would not be consistent for so many steaks, but people had nothing but good things to say about the food.  Everything was more perfect than we could have imagined.  At the end of the night, when we returned to our suite, we saw that the hotel had left us a bottle of champagne and some large chocolate-dipped strawberries.

We would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for an amazing venue for their wedding.  Hillary and the team are awesome and will help make your special day unforgettable!

This hotel has a few buildings to stay in.  We stayed in the condo-type building that is slightly closer to Sea World.  We paid an average of $250/night.

    Pros:
View and sound of harbor / sea lions
    A strong, hot hower
The layout, having a separate room for my kid to sleep in.
Location - proximity to many things.  25 minute walk to Sea World.

    Cons:
    Musty smelling a bit
    Price / value
It had a nice pool area, but the water slides close at 4pm, and the temperature is far too cold on a cold day - everyone was freezing.
Our unit had really old, sticky doors.  The deck door, the patio door, the fridge door, etc all were old and stuck - took a lot of effort to open/close.
    $10/day for Wifi.

    Parking tip:
They charge $20/night for parking, but there appeared to be ample street parking right there.  I didn't use it but in hindsight wish I had.

More bad then good things to say about this hotel.

The room quality was not that great. Not 4 stars. We stayed in the suites and happened to get a room with a view that was blocked by the poorly placed gym. Make sure you know what you view is going to be like. Over all, aging of the building and facilities were noticable.

Key issues - No one in my party had a key that worked at the gym or at one of the pool gates. Key worked fine at other doors. I had the key replaced, no difference.

Front desk personnel would not replace my key even though I had my original key in my hand, I had my gym clothes on and it was 6:30am in the morning unless I had my aunts address. She rented the room. Buuu

No towels at the pool for almost an hour on a sunny afternoon. Really?

Parking - There was almost no parking after 9PM even though you pay $20 a night for self parking. If you have a large car I would consider paying for valet because self parking was gone by 9 and all the spots were so tiny, our Kia almost did not fit. Not to mention, two nights in a row, a car alarm went off at 5:30AM....

On the positive note. this hotel is at a great location. Very quick access to all the beach towns, beautiful view of the marina, even if blocked by buildings, and the overall feel of where we were made me happy, but I will not stay here again.

U must have a car, you cannot easily walk to anything.

This place bills itself as a "luxury" hotel, but other than the nice location on the bay, it's kind of mediocre.

If you decide to eat / drink at the hotel's Swim Lounge or Red Marlin restaurant, expect to pay premium prices for average food.  $14 for a cuban sandwich and $8 for a beer seems a bit much to me.

A taxi, which is really the only way to get to anything else of interest from this remote hotel, will run you $20 to $30 one way, so you don't have much choice but to stay on the property to eat.

It is a tower hotel and cabanas in Mission bay San Diego.
The tower is old but the cabanas are really nice. I stayed at the cabanas.
The hotel has a nice pool and a hot tub. It has a great view of mission bay marina.
    The key features are:
    Apples at the concierge.
Red marlin is good but a bit overpriced.
Small conference venue. Good for 100 to 200 attendees
Humid as next to the water
Outdoor showers right by bay 2
The bay section of the hotel are so nice.  It is right by the pool. It is good not to be in the tower. The rooms are in cabanas with a couch and a patio.
    iPod iPhone charger alarm clock
    $ 20 self parking!! :-(
    Good hotel.

This place is not the high-quality resort they would like to believe it is or that they price it to be.  I got one of their so-called "suites" and was laughing throughout the entire stay at how lame and hokey it was.  After reading the room amenities and description they have on their website when reserving my room I was picturing a high-class resort and suite.  Instead it was the same as if I paid a 3rd of the price and stayed at a Best Western.

The bathroom doesn't have a fan or window so forget about sneaking off for a BM without taking the risk of killing your hotel room-mate.  The "two 32" flatscreen TV's" have terrible picture quality; definitely not an HD signal.  The wallpaper was pealing off the walls and there were black smears and smudges everywhere.

The lighting in the room was retarded.  The lamps next to bed were stained and looked to be rotting.  How do lamp shades rot???  The shower curtain could double as blackout shades, and there is no light inside.  So once you get into the shower and close the curtain, you're practically blind.  The living room lamp (again we foolishly paid for a "suite") was so dim, it could double as a nightlight.

Their restaurant was equally overpriced for what you get.  $37 for a 6oz steak?  Seriously??  And their recipes were pathetic.  They were trying too hard to be unique that they forgot to make it tasty.  Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes sounded like a neat idea but they put way too much blue cheese it that flavor of the whole meal was overpowered.

At breakfast, they're hollandaise sauce was flavorless and watery.  And the eggs benedict was $16.00 and didn't come close to satisfying a human sized portion.  (No- Not a fatty here.)

Long story short, this place is nothing more than a way overpriced Best Western motel, but with a Tower.  And what's with charging people $20 to park there?  And that's if you park your own car.  Valet, which is completely unnecessary since the lot is right next to the rooms, is even more.  Plus they want $10 for an hour of internet use.

They think way too highly of themselves.

Nice little getaway from the heat!  Upper floors over looking the marina is so worth the extra $25 a night.

Impeccable service.  Okay, I'm a little biased  just because we were also upgraded to a junior suite.  The king bed is extra comfy with sectional, flat screen tv and plenty of room for a roll out bed.   The remodel was a success!

My cutie pie loved the pool and waterslides.  But, the highlight of his trip was the steel drum reggae band.  The guys were so cool they let him play along on one of the smaller drums!

We had the breakfast buffet at the Red Marlin.  I had steel cut oatmeal and fruits.  Hubby had the pancakes with eggs and bacon.  Little cutie pie had some oatmeal and fruits as well.  Richard Walker pancake house on East Village is worth driving to!  The swim up bar had great mixed drinks, smoothie galore and KIDS MENU!  I'm usually good at remembering the prices to help you out, but we charged it to our room without looking.

The next morning we went to Einstein's.  It was the worst bagel and coffee we've had and we usually like it.  It tasted like a day old chewy bagel with dried up lox!  Go somewhere else!

We love the water taxi to Sea World with your very own dock and no huge lines!!!

We've been here before and during the remodel and wow, after the remodel. It's by far one of our fave places to stay in Mission Bay.

Heads up on $20 self park and $25 for valet parking.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights, 5 days. Personally, I feel that the positive aspects outweigh the negative. My primary dislike was the (semi) inconvenient location of the hotel on Mission Bay Drive and the lack of free internet service. Additional charges for internet services for guests is simply absurd, considering the fact that we've already paid for our stay. The location makes possible a short walk to Seaworld, Mission Bay, and even Pacific Beach, but elsewhere would require additional transportation. The only available taxi service from the hotel was from Yellow Taxi.
On the brighter side, the pool area is simply gorgeous at night, I don't know how it looks during the day because I was out. Though the pools were only 4ft at the deepest, the jacuzzi and three slides made up for it. The fire-pit and plethora of outdoor seating definitely created a resort/island-like feel on the premises. The proximity of Mission Bay, Pacific Beach, and Crystal Pier makes easily accessible local cuisines, eateries, Belmont Park, and beach! House-keeping and the concierge desk was very flexible and helpful.
I probably would rather not stay here again only because I'd wish to visit other places in San Diego but I would suggest this hotel if you're looking for a getaway-like resort. I also highly recommend exploring the entire cove that this hotel is located on because it's almost 280 degrees of water! Also, a visit to the small bridge located to the right of the entrance is a must!

My husband and I decided to brave our first family trip. We chose San Diego cuz it was not too far and yet still feels like a vacation destination. We also decided to go during the 4th of July wknd, but only stayed one night to avoid the horrendous traffic. We decided to use our Hyatt points (18,000 points). I was debating between the La Jolla Hyatt or this one. I was sold when I read that the Mission Bay Hyatt had waterslides.

We checked in Friday afternoon, 7/1. We were supposed to stay in a 2 bed room on the Club Level. I asked if we could be upgraded to a suite, and they were kind enough to arrange that. I did forego the 'club' privileges, eg. continental breakfast and evening hor deurves. That wasn't a big deal for me since I rather have the extra space with our two kids (toddler & infant).

The room was spacious enough and we had a nice view of the marina. I also requested a crib (aka Graco pack & play) for our 11mo old daughter. After dropping off our luggage, we immediately went straight to the pool. It was super crowded. I guess we weren't the only family wanting to spend the holiday wknd at this resort. It took me about 10min to finally claim a couple of lounge chairs to put our stuff. My 3yr old son LOVED the kid's waterslide. At first he was a little hesitant but it didn't take long for him to go on by himself. He was shivering at times but still managed to utter "sssliiide" out of his mouth.

The adult waterslide looked like fun too. My husband and I took turns to watch the kiddos while we had a 'kid' moment too. It was actually my first time on a waterslide and I loved it! We also ordered room service, dinner & breakfast. Both times were prompt and the food was decent. I would definitely stay at this resort again. I've already recommended this to a few of my mommy friends.

Lastly, we didn't go to Sea World but I read that they offer a free shuttle service to Sea World. You can save some money on parking.. They also offer a few kids' programs too, for children 4 and older.

Great view and love the kid friendly pools, but not a four star at all.  Has a musty smell, no fan in bathroom, hate the shower pressure (to hard for my kids), soon as I opened the closet it fell off and got charger 65 dollars them to put it back on, and not kid friendly at all (except pools).

Had a great stay at this hotel. The rooms were clean and had nicely fashioned decor. It was close to Seaworld, which was mainly the reason we were there. The bell hops were very nice, always greeting us as we came and went. It didn't seem too busy to be honest (not sure what that says).

The view all around is fantastic. probably because it's on a peninsula surrounded by gorgeous scenery. You will have no problem finding a photo opportunity around here.

The immediate area dining options are extremely limited, but after a short drive there were many excellent dining options in the close vicinity. So it's centrally located between downtown and upper coast where much of the foodie joints are.

Stayed here for a few nights with my family and it was a great experience! Everyone was very nice and accommodating to our needs. The front office agents were very helpful and the concierge helped us to get tickets to our desired attractions. The rooms are beautiful with stunning views of the marina all around and the grounds are gorgeous. Although I didn't get to use the pools due to weather they looked great! This hotel is close to everything you need-15 minutes away from Old Town and the San Diego Zoo and right down the street from Sea World. You can also get discounted tickets to these places through the Hyatt concierge! Overall a great experience at the Hyatt.

I had the pleasure of having my wedding here. I searched high and low for not only the perfect location but a reasonable price. As soon as I toured the Hyatt, I knew this was the perfect location with it's beautiful bay view and ocean breezes. It had a tropical feel to it and it's just naturally beautiful. I thought for sure this place was going to be out of our price range but I was surprised to learn they did not require a minimum for food/beverage like almost all places do for a wedding. I made it two for two on this one! From food tasting, which was impeccable, to the day of our wedding, everything turned out just perfect. The catering staff was so accommodating to our needs and Brigid was such a pleasure to work with. Even the staff on our wedding day was more than amazing. If anybody asked for something, they would take care of it right away with a smile. Not only was he hotel awesome but so was the staff. I keep telling everyone that I wish I could get married every year and it's all because of the incredible experience the Hyatt provided from the first moment to the last!! I would highly recommend the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay to anyone who is having a wedding outdoors.

Wish I could move it up to 4 stars, but just can't.  The lobby is very modern and has a nice feel.  Greeted warmly and given my room keys.  I stayed in the Bay Units on the right of the pool, not the tower.  Room was spacious and had been modernized.  Was right next to the pool, so heard the noise of the kids yelling and screaming all day.  In addition to that, the put speakers right in front of my unit to broadcast to the pool.  Up until 10pm, the music is blaring away.  I didn't as for this for sure, and went back to the front desk and asked to be changed to tower.  Was told they were pretty booked for my coporate rate, but could updgrade for $50 more per night.  No thanks.  The rooms were available so they should have moved me due to the loud noise and music.

Anyway stayed there two nights, and tried to be gone most of the day.  When I did go to the pool area to use the famously advertised water slides, you guessed it, they were shut down.  Hey, little bit of false advertising here?

Oh, and self parking is $20/day; valet $25/day.  Adds up to the total cost of the stay.

So, for a Hyatt expectations this one did not meet mine for sure.  It is in a nice location, and the view from the restaurant and bar is really nice overlooking the yachts/boats and inlet.

Overall, not a repeat for me.

Oh dear. We had more than a few problems that by themselves would have been forgotten in the overall scheme of things: a beautiful location, great pools, reasonable rooms and comfortable beds. Here's a list of what went wrong:

    1. Credit Card rejected because the front desk clerk repeatedly input the expiration date incorrectly. Silly error.
    2. Room reservation lost. Long phone conversation resurrected the reservation. Silly error.
    3. Business center devices not working. No nearby phone to front desk. No response after schlepping back to the room to make three seperate calls for help.
    4. $19 for a pot of coffee sent to room????
    5. Main room mirror hung permanantly askew on wall by 15 to 20 degrees. Wow. Funhouse effect. Silly error.
    6. Apparent repeated fire alarms in restaurant. Shooed away after just being served at dinner, when the wait staff said, "It's nothing - this happens all the time."
    7. Room door wouldn't close and latch. Must have been repaired by same guy who hung the mirror.
    8. No room wi-fi? Come on!

The kids loved the pools, the water slide was fabulous, and the grounds and front lobby are top notch. With just a few adjustments and a little more attention to these details, this property could be excellent.

I got a corner suite.  I liked that the room was very open and had so many windows facing different directions.  I was facing Sea World which was perfect for this stay because it started pouring and winding like crazy when we checked in.  The balcony is large and has comfortable seats. The bed is very comfortable and clean.  Great TV at the foot of the bed to enjoy before bed.  Had room service bring a pizza up and it was okay.  I got a peak from the rooms facing the ocean and that was beautiful.  I highly recommend this hotel.  I will return for that ocean view and a tasty adult beverage on the balcony as I take it all in.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights before joining the rest of our family for vacation. Awesome resort feeling with the open air lobby and cute bungalow style rooms. We had a blast enjoying cocktails and munchies by the pool in the comfortable lounge chairs. We especially thought the fire pits in the evening were cool.

On the down side the $25 daily valet charge or $20 self park is a slap in the face when your paying $200 a night to stay there.  Our room had a musty odor and there was mildew in the shower.  The hot tub was occupied by children splashing and screaming most of the time.

This is a great hotel for families. Beautiful pool and water slides. My daughter and the friends we were with played in the pools for 2 days straight and had a blast! They also have daily activities out at the pool like waterslide relay races, volleyball competitions, and airbrush tattooing.  The food and drinks by the pool is overpriced but good. This hotel sits on the marina which is beautiful. And hotel guests can take a complimentary water taxi to Sea World. On the down side....
We had a large party with several rooms booked together and the hotel did a poor job of placing us all in adjoining rooms or at least rooms next to each other. This was a disappointment. Also the air conditioning in the whole hotel stopped working for part of the night and that was frustrating.

Overall, I would definitely stay here again with my kids.

We just used the Hyatt during our wedding, as we were getting married at Marina Village down the road and wanted a close hotel for guests (and us).  I was going to select either the Hyatt or the Dana for a wedding block and ended up choosing the Hyatt because from the get go, they were more accommodating to work with.  I am so glad I chose them!  Not only did they keep me up to date with weekly updates of how many guests had reserved in our block but I also had several people I could email with questions and get very quick replies.  We had a few snafus where guests didn't reserve under our block but when I emailed the Hyatt staff, they fixed everything right up.

When we actually visited the hotel, I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful their grounds are!  From afar, it doesn't look like much but their grounds and their rooms are wonderful. And the pool and water slides kept adults and kids busy!

I would highly recommend the Hyatt Mission Bay to anyone.  Great place!

Extremely helpful staff who go out of their way to help in any possible way.  I liked the location and the wonderful view.  The room was perfectly fine.  The parking and internet charges were a bit extreme, and it is a bit out of the way.  The food choices at or near the hotel are limited and pricey. There is a nice pool with a water slide, but the slide closed at 4 p.m., well before we returned from our tourist gigs each day.

It was a romantic escape wknd for the husb and I. Our room was on the eleventh floor with a view of mission bay out to the ocean and beyond. It was breathtaking. After settling in I wanted to order a bottle of champagne but the restaurant was closed for a couple hours. No worries tho, one of the managers found us a bottle and personally delivered it himself. How cool! Definitely exceeded my expectations. Our room was large enuf to accomodate our massage therapists and their tables so we asked them to come over for an appointment. This wknd escape was amazing. Massage by candlelight overlooking the bay, a cleansing ocean breeze coming thru from the balcony, champagne and my sweetheart by my side. This was the perfect hotel for our rendezvous. I cant wait to go back :)
The only bad thing about this place was having to pay for parking, like $20/night. The street has parking but you cant park there btwn 2 and 6am. Oh well. For me it was worth it ;)

Stayed here on a Saturday during the Summer.  Didnt realize it's more for families with small kids.  I should've realized because the pool area has a waterslide.  Nice pool though.

Pro's:  Close to the beaches, Sea World, Clean and friendly Staff.
Cons: $20 to park overnight, $25 for Valet

*When you book online, use triple A and say it's your honeymoon/bday.  That gives you a free bottle of champagne and free breakfast at the hotel restaurant Red Marlin.

This place could have been so great.  It has such potential but was ruined by simple irritants such as horrible maid service one day, the lack of functionality of certain areas in our suite and not enough staff at the pool for life guarding and serving (mostly drinks). When we first arrived house keeping was next door.  I asked for several more towels, an extra blanket, pillows and regular coffee.  I offered her some money and she politely declined.  Ok, that is fine but the next day before we left the suite (a mess might I add since the kids made a fort with the sofa pillow cushions) I called and requested the room be cleaned while we were out for a few hours and would be back with guests.  When we came back the pillows were not all on the sofa, the sofa bed was not made, the newspaper was still on the floor and the extra dishes and utensils I had neatly stacked on the counter were taken.  I had to call house keeping and tell them to come back and clean up the place again.  They did but still left the newspaper on the floor!  I went to the front desk to complain and all the man behind the counter could do was apologize.  Also, we had to have the patio deck cleaned to remove all the bird poop on the cushions and floor.  The bathroom tub sink was not draining properly and the 'kitchen' area had no trash can to throw food stuff away in.  I had to use the bathroom trash can (which was not lined) because the other trash can was a basket weave (also not lined).   There was really no place to put 'stuff' in beside your clothes and the bathroom did not have enough counter space for four people (2 adults and 2 children).  The plugged in hairdryer was placed on top of the toilet bowl which I think everyone could agree is slightly dangerous should the lid be open.
But the view was perfect even with the noise in the morning from the boats and barking seals.  A bagel shop with decent coffee was just below and cheaper than room service.  The pools were GREAT!  There is a big pool, a little pool and a medium sized pool (Do I sound like the Goldie Locks story?)  The small pool and the medium pool have water slides appropriate for certain ages.  On the weekend there was a life guard above and below but during the week day there was just one below which did not always 'appear' on duty (since they were still wearing clothes).  The service was suspect too.  I could see them walking around but they took forever the get all around.  I think they were just short on servers.
So would I stay here again?  You bet.  The first time should never be the judge of possible perfection.
By the way, I would of liked a few free drinks and/or comp room service along with the apology for the horrible house keeping and quite embarrassing experience I had in front of guests walking into a mess room.

Family stayed here for 2 nights in the water front suites. Overall the property is nice but not 5 star. The suite room decor is somewhat updated but like cheap modern finishings and decor.  In my opinion, regardless of the look of a hotel room it has to have the bare necessities down which our room/hotel was lacking in. for example, the bathroom sink took maybe ten mins to drain after every use, so once it did drain it left behind all the gross residue in the sink. the shower/bath water pressure and heat were very weak. Another issue with the hotel is parking. they charge $20 a night for self parking but there never are any spots. After not finding a spot 2 nights in a row we complained and had the charges reversed.  the benefits of this place are location and pool, which has 3 water slides for the kids.

Out on its own, towering in a lush compound right in front of the boat docks in Mission Bay is the Hyatt Regency.

This hotel has been here for a long time, but has been remodeled, with the interior in simple but elegant neutral beige tones. The grounds are a little bit like a Hawaiian property with its green plants, pathways, and separate lobby building from the 17 story tower (actually 16 without the 13th floor) and 3 story family suites building.

I got a great AAA rate of $105 for a Thursday night, perhaps between seasons, as this place is a spa hotel, but its proximity near Sea World makes this a family destination in the summertime. Because I am a Hyatt platinum member, I got an upgrade to a spacious corner room, a Y shaped room with 2 large windows and a glass doored balcony with 2 cushioned lounge chairs and table. The rate included complimentary breakfast for two.

The room was light and airy, and a lot of room and Molly, who checked me in at 11:30pm, was very pleasant and welcoming in the lobby. There was a great view from the 10th floor of the boat docks and the Mission Bay and San Diego areas. Complimentary Wi Fi made my Dell laptop and Macbook Pro happy.

A small detail, but this is the first hotel out of the 100 I have stayed in over the past 2.5 years, that put the spa quality soap, shampoo, and conditioner in the large glass enclosed shower, instead of on the bathroom counter. You know how many times I have hopped into the shower and hopped out again dripping wet because the soap and shampoo are not in the shower? Too often to count. Nice.

Large work area, and iPod ready radio, but the local KIFM 98.1 FM smooth jazz station playing on it was great to help me relax after driving down from LA. Valet is $24 and self park is $20.

For my 100th hotel review, I enjoyed my brief stay here and look forward to coming back.
