Was here for a convention at this hotel in April 2012. I had a uneventful experience, which is good in the hotel world. The hotel rooms are nice and clean, staff at the front desk are friendly. The only complaint is parking. You either valet or park at lots very far away and still have to pay. I am cheap so I parked far away and got a work out by carrying my bag the whole way.
There are several restaurants in the hotel as well as a very large and airy feeling bar area with multiple huge TVs. This bar would be fun to visit any time, even if you just live in Dallas and want to go to a casual bar.
There are many convention rooms of all sizes and shapes, which is very useful for a convention. This is the hotel connected to the huge ball thing in the Dallas skyline. We didn't visit it but its nice that its close for tourists. I hear their bar is fun to sit at also.
No complaints, the rooms were fairly priced and friendly staff. Would have liked it if they had continental breakfast.Comment from Fred E. of Hyatt Regency Dallas 5/2/2012

This place needs a to be remodeled!!! The bathroom tub floor had black stains, which comet and elbow grease couldn't do the trick. Omg, the bed look nice and done, plus firm. But, the comforter was thin and stuff between 2 flat sheets, seriously? Won't lie, I double checked for bed bugs for pease of mind. I was too tired to complain, since it was only for one night and was redeeming my free night. The check-in and out was very smooth, so was the valet.
I would not recommend this place to anyone, since there's too many other options.

The hotel itself is nice. The rooms where a little dates and not up to par of what I am used to at other Hyatt properties. Staff was very nice.
Parking was a bit much - $29 per day.
Biggest negative was the train station is right across the street which was loud and woke me up a few times with freight trains going by at night.
Great view but just not what I am used to in a Hyatt. -

2 stars for Hyatt Regency, it was an Embassy Suite quality. They rooms are dated and house keeping service was terrible! They didn't empty one of the trash cans. The room just didn't look "made" after the service. Also, there was no "do not disturb" sign so the maids came knocking on my door at 9 am, then again at 10 am. How annoying! I will stay somewhere else next time I'm in Dallas.

I won a priceline bid for a room here. I wanted the Sheraton cuz its closer to uptown where my fat friends live. But those bastards on priceline "upgraded" me to this hotel. For $66 per night I can't complain. It was worth $66. But if you had to pay full retail sucks to be you. This place is mainly for business meetings and events. Its far away from most of the cool stuff in downtown dallas except for the sixth floor museum. If you don't mind hearing Amtrak blow its horn every hour then this is the place for you. The pool belongs in a trailer park. Its bad. I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone I care about.

If I walked into this room blindfolded, I would say "Granny, are you home?". It smells like an old grandmothers house.....stale and stuffy. Yuk!

Stay here for 4 days, and sad to say that my room was not cleaned properly either day we were there. Not once was it vacuumed, I know because I placed small things on the carpet in a couple of spots, and it they were still there when I checked out! They replaced the linens & made our bed, and nothing else. Not even the toiletries!! Very sad when it was sold out and $280 per night! Will try not to stay here again.

Hotel is located in Downtown Dallas next to the globe. The staff treated me like Royality and gave me several discounts- free valet parking, free breakfast- on my membership. The hotel's decor can be compared to 4 star hotels.
Breakfast and bar service is excellent. Very fast response and super friendly.
The only negative comment I have is that if your room faces the train station then you will hear the noises from the station. In addition, I think that parking should be included in the room rate.Comment from Fred E. of Hyatt Regency Dallas 9/22/2011

I really liked this hotel. The location was good...walking distance to places downtown. The staff was friendly and helpful. The deli/coffee shop was stocked with food at anytime. They even had tables of food out for lunch that you could buy to help with lunch congestion. This hotel was very convention friendly and the price was acceptable. Beds were very comfortable. The lobby is beautiful except for the mildewy smell in some places. The restaurants and drinks a little pricey but the friendly service helped to make up for it. My one complaint is that the service at the "buffet" restaurant was really slow on Sat night (not during the buffet).Comment from Fred E. of Hyatt Regency Dallas 12/9/2011

This isn't the best hotel I've stayed in but it isn't the worst. I travel pretty often for work, so I've stayed in all sorts of places. This hotel would rate near the middle of the pack.
Pros:
- Close to the convention center
- Very nice gym (best gym I've ever seen in a hotel, to be honest)
- Nice city skyline observation deck on the 3rd floor
- Walking distance to Reunion Tower
- Nice coffee shop in the lobby
Cons:
- Expensive valet parking - glad I wasn't paying for it!
- No free wi-fi
- Tattered guest rooms - had a leaky toilet and the bathroom had seen better days - the beds' legs were scuffed and dented
- Not enough outlets - had to plug in my phone charger in the bathroom
Overall, decent place to stay if you're going to a convention. Not sure I'd make a point to go back to this hotel, but it was an ok place to stay for a few nights.Comment from Fred E. of Hyatt Regency Dallas 8/28/2011

I stay here often, its in a neutral location and since there are so many rooms in the hotel upgrades are given often - just make sure you ask for them.
I try to stay on the highest floor possible because the trains are loud, even if you're on the 8th floor you can hear them. Super annoying. Ask for a city view and you'll have a beautiful view of downtown.
The biggest downfall to this hotel is the valet. $19 for valet is stupid. I stayed here a couple weeks ago and told the valet that I was just checking in and that I would be right back out so they didn't need to park my car in the garage. The gentleman told me that he would keep it up front for me. After checking in, I came back out and my car is exactly where he told me it would be. I gave the valet my ticket and pointed to where it was at so he wouldn't go searching in the garage. Well, after waiting 15 minutes my car never came and a valet came by, gave me my keys and made me go get my car myself. I'm not lazy, but REALLY? I'll get my car myself but don't make me wait around all night. This has happened twice that I can remember. So before you leave your room, call down to Valet and have them get your car so it's waiting when you get down.
Don't pay full price, bid on this hotel on Priceline and you can get your room for practically nothing.Comment from Fred E. of Hyatt Regency Dallas 7/31/2011

3.5 stars.
Pros:
- Attractive lobby with plenty of places to meet
- Very cordial staff
- Convenient cafe
- Room service food was better than average - my salmon dish was of the quality you'd expect at a nice restaurant
- Reasonably priced, although I paid a convention rate
Cons:
- Carpet in the room was older and had a few stains
- Bathroom looked institutional, like something you'd find in a hospital (I think I was given a handicap-accessible room for some reason)
- The Italian restaurant was closed for renovations, which I won't hold against the hotel but it did limit my dinner choices
- No free wi-fi. I travel quite a bit and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which hotels offer it and which don't. This one does not.
Bottom line is I would stay here again.Comment from Fred E. of Hyatt Regency Dallas 8/30/2011

New York, NY
This hotel is beautiful... If you're color blind. The carpet (covering all 40 trillion square feet of this piece of shit hotel) looks like it was designed in the 1970's by someone afflicted with severe mental illness.
They have all the amenities one could hope for! Wifi -- slow flaky wifi -- which they only charge you half your bank account to use, when even the most ghetto hotels I've ever stayed in have never charged a penny.
Other amenities include public parking, very conveniently located around 3 miles uphill away from the main entrance. And they only charge you 20 bucks to enter or leave! What a steal!
Then there's the beautiful billiard room, with one table. And its so lopsided that the game is unplayable (and i love the signs of tenants in the past-- many of them--trying to fix it by shoving writing utensils, coasters, bar menus, anything they could think of, to try and fix it). Because they charge you money to play, and there are no signs indicating that the table is broken. How long would it take the staff to write a tiny note mentioning this? And I love the over-the-top presentation-- rich oak walls, complete with some regal sign that says "The Billiard Parlour". Mosconi is twitching in his grave.
So, at this point, you're broken, defeated, fuck it, I'm going upstairs to watch tv. You turn on the tv, only to discover there's no cable. So you flip through the terrible selection of movies which cost 20 bucks to watch. Okay, no movies, no tv, let's listen to the radio! Oh wait, the radio costs 5 bucks per minute to play.
At this point, the average tenant has two options; a) kill yourself, or b) leave and go somewhere that doesn't charge you for breathing. So you bust out your iPhone and do a search to see what's around.... And the nearest -anything- is 45 minutes away, and the only way to get there is by merging onto 16 highways, half of which are tollroads.
I've lived in every major city in the country. Dallas, hands down, has the least amount of soul or character or charm or appeal out of any city I've ever lived in.
Oh, did I mention the mildew in our shower? Hyatt Dallas, I can't wait until the next time I get to visit!Comment from Fred E. of Hyatt Regency Dallas 8/1/2011

I had a better then expected experience at Hyatt Regency, but my expectations coming in were low.
What worked
- The view from the 14th floor facing the city was fantastic. My kids and I spent plenty of time just starting out the window, watching the different trains come in. Another plus was we weren't woken up by train horns as I expected.
- Valet service while expensive ($22) was flawlessly executed. My car was waiting for me even when I called a couple minutes before I showed up.
- Room was better then expected. Large and comfortable. We were also given complimentary rollaway bed and cot which was great for the kids, but still didn't dominate the room.
- Location isn't bad...Dealy Plaza is a short walk away as are a few good restaurant options.
- The glass elevators from the lobby were great fun. Kids and I rode it up and down a few times!
What didn't work
- I woke up 2-3 times each night fiddling with the AC. Try as I might, it couldn't get as cold as I wanted. When I wanted 77 it would max out at 79 to 80 degrees. I woke up sweating and annoyed.
- Service was disappointing. Getting an email printed out proved to be more pain then it was worth. Concierge wouldn't do it (any other hotel I've tried this at hasn't even blinked at the request). The business center flat out failed as well.
- Kids channels on the TV. Seriously, can't you subscribe to one kids channel?
- Don't charge me for internet when I'm paying over $150 a night......Comment from Fred E. of Hyatt Regency Dallas 8/26/2011

Review from Megan M.
The Hyatt Regency is a Dallas icon. That doesn't mean it's the nicest hotel in Dallas, but it totally fit the bill of what I needed for the weekend.
Here's what you need to know.
*This hotel has been around forever, which means it's not new and fancy. It's not a shit hole, but it's an older hotel that shows some wear. Don't let this ruin your stay. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the beds are wonderful, the hot water is freakin' hot, the shower pressure is fantastic and the lighting in the bathroom (a sticking point for me and piss poor in many hotels) is great.
*Yep, you're gonna pay for things. Valet is $20, room service is expensive, room upgrades are pricey. These issues really ticked off some Yelpers and it shows in their ratings of this hotel. These issues are all standard for nicer hotels and shouldn't really take anyone by surprise. Show me a hotel in New Orleans or San Francisco that doesn't charge a valet fee and I'll show you a cut-and-shoot shit hole. Seriously. Know why hotels can get away with charging so much for room service? Because they can. You're paying for the right to be lazy. If you want cheap, Fuel City is less than a mile away.
*Speaking of room upgrades, do it. I read about the train noise (yep, that's Union Station within a stones throw of the hotel and trains tend to make a little noise) and decided it might be worth upgrading to a higher floor room. That was the best decision of the weekend. We were on the 18th floor and could still hear the trains, though it wasn't loud enough to keep us awake. I can't imagine how noisy it would've been had we been on one of the lower floors.
*City view rooms are truly worth it. Yep, this is another upgrade. Do it. We sat in front of the window for hours watching the city like we were watching TV. In fact, we never even turned on the TV. The downtown Dallas skyline is beautiful and will make you overlook any tiny blemishes in your room.
*Rooms don't automatically come with a fridge. You can request a room that has one (another upgrade), but if you get up there and it doesn't, it's only a matter of making a simple phone call to the front desk and having one sent up. Just keep in mind that they're teeeeeeeny tiny and won't hold much more than 2 bottles of champagne and a jug of orange juice.
*The hotel is not within walking distance of anything. You'll need to either get your car from the valet (which was easy and fast every single time), take a cab (which was easy and fast every single time) or take the Dart Rail (the station is right in front of the hotel and has both Red and Blue lines). I chose this hotel so we could cab everywhere we went and it worked out perfectly. We didn't have to worry about navigating downtown, paying for/finding parking, or DUIs. Score.
*The Hyatt Regency is attached to Reunion Tower. If you're coming from out of town, you have to visit Reunion Tower at least once. I knew we wouldn't be able to afford dinner, but late night cocktails were within our reach (even if still pretty expensive). It was only a matter of crossing the lobby and taking a special elevator (that takes you up *fast*, yo) that didn't even require pushing a button (I think). They serve sushi until 11:00ish (I think I remember something about last call for sushi at 11:15) and the bar area is really nice. One thing to know, the floor doesn't rotate. I don't know if the rotating floor and restaurant are on another floor or not, but the bar area we were at was not moving. Even though a couple members of our party were spinning on their own and swore we were all moving.
*There's a second floor lobby that contains the hotel bar. I didn't figure this out until we were leaving the hotel and wish I'd paid better attention before it was too late. It looked really cool from the glass elevators and I'm almost tempted to hit up happy hour one of these days just so I can check it all out.
Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my hotel choice. There are much nicer hotels to be found, but the bottom line figure of what I paid wouldn't even come close to the starting point at those hotels. Besides, you aren't coming to Dallas to spend the weekend inside your room and if you're doing it right, the hotel is only there to catch you when it's time to pass out.Listed in: Like a Rolling Stone

Stayed here for eWomen Network Conference July 13-17, 2011. All of the hotel staff are friendly and helpful! Seriously, every last one of them! The room was wonderful. There were other conferences hosted during the same time as ours and it was never crowded or long waits for elevators.

Luckily I scored it through priceline and I even beat the group wedding rate that my friend provided for us.
This place is iconic. You see the big round ball when you see the skyline of the big D.
The public spaces are nice, and elegant, and it looks like people just pack this place in. The valet parking was a nightmare on a busy night - hey, welcome to TX where people looked at me funny for walking over to the JFK memorial. It's less than a mile, but people don't walk around here.
The hotel pool is a joke. It's on a rooftop deck on the 3rd floor and it was tiny. It looked like they just put one there just to say they have a pool.
The gym is pretty nice with plenty of cardio machines and excercise free weights. They even provide headsets so you can watch tv while you burn those calories away.
The rooms were also spacious and nice, however I wasn't impressed with the soundproofing. The doors need some mechanism to slow them down. I constantly woke up to slamming doors. You can also hear the train if your room is facing the train tracks, but I did get a nice view of the old red museum. -

You know, I can't help but giggle every time I see this place. The reason? I hear the music to the old TV show "Dallas" playing in my head. Remember, this hotel was shown in the intro? Well, it makes ME laugh.
Anyway, I attended the IEX user conference here last year. And was hardly impressed. I came again this year for the same reason and it's a amazing the difference a year makes.
My room was so much nicer than last year. Beautiful marble and lighting fixtures in the bath. Cute bed, plus carpet, big fluffly pillows. My room was beautiful. Plus, I had a city view and Dallas at night is beautiful.
The conference rooms were nice, however they really should invest in some comfortable chairs. All meals served at the conference were delicious. Hotel staff is wonderful. I had a really great time here. -
Review from Brett D.
As a very frequent business traveler I rarely review the hotels I'm mandated to stay in... my writing ingenuity (heh) seems much better served on my favorite restaurants and hot spots, not the quality of my travel size shampoo and extend-a-shower-curtain. Unless of course, there is a reason to embellish on something that made me smile like a kid in a candy store.
Upon my arrival to the Hyatt last week I did my best batting of the eyelashes (as I always do) while coyly beating around the bush about getting an upgrade to a non-shoebox sized room. I was informed it would be a slight ($50) upcharge to a 1-bedroom suite. SOLD!
When I opened the door to said suite imagine my surprise when I found a world of upgrades... HUGE living area with 2 tv's, full dining table, couches, fancy pants credenzas and panorama view of downtown Dallas. I had not one but two full bathrooms with gorgeous glass spa-style showers, beautiful tile work and fabulous, fancy lighting fixtures. It was truly a business travelers paradise; with tons of shampoos (the good stuff!), lotions, shower gels, tidy bottles of take-with-you spray starch, lint mitts, I could have set up shop for weeks. I really had to take a brief pause of silence for my Rain Man Vegas moment; Kmart does suck indeed.
My small star retraction here is the pool. It is very, very small with no bar or food service and very unappealing dirty concrete surroundings (see pic). For a monstrous hotel this size it can barely accommodate a tenth of it's occupants and in an icky fashion no less. I know most of the Hyatts visitors come in on business, but come on peeps, Dallas is hotter than the face of the sun and once in awhile I like to take a deserved dip. Get with the program!
Swimming woes aside, overall this is my favorite place to stay in Dallas. Centrally located to everything, with tasty room service and fabulously accommodating staff it can't be beat; especially with upgrades like these (eyelash batting necessary, of course). -
Review from Michelle P.

Beautiful Hotel in standard Hyatt style...
I must admit that compared to the Hyatt in Palm Springs that I just stayed in, this place is a keeper.
I'm on a business trip, they negotiated a rate of $149 (nice), and I'm in this gorgeous hotel with a great view of downtown Dallas (I'm a city girl and I love city views). The staff here has been helpful, and the conference rooms are definitely up to par. They also have nice restaurants to choose from (though a bit pricey - typical of hotel places) and a great sports bar in this huge open atrium.
But, I don't like that the rooms don't come with free wireless. HELLO??? Join the year 2009, people! (I had to knock off a star from a 4 to a 3 for this because it got in the way of my needs to do business efficiently and economically. $9.95 a day? WHAT?).
~~~~ Now for my unofficial review~~~~
Typically, when I stay in a hotel, first thing I do is jump on the bed. Unfortunately, minutes after I arrived, I heard someone move in to the room next to me and I recognized the voice... it was my mentor (a guru of sorts who is a retired Harvard Professor & Psychologist). So, I tried to hide that it was me next door for as long as I could, but he figured it out on our way back from dinner on the first night. Funny thing is that I can hear him on the phone in the mornings, I can hear his shower running, etc. In fact, typing this I just heard him sneeze. It's hilarious! (Had to knock off a star for lack of sound proofing).
Aside from that, the top of the Reunion tower bar/restaurant is too cool- complete with rotating floor to see the city. Bad thing - closes at 10 or 11 or something. Also, the pool is only outdoors which didn't work in our rain storm today (no tan for me). We are walking distance from where Kennedy was assassinated and taking that tour was pretty amazing (especially for a grief counselor like me). We are also a short cab ride to Ameriquest field and I will try and catch a baseball game tomorrow night. Woo HOO! If I can't see the dodgers, I can at least get a game in at REALLY GOOD PRICES for tickets. -
Review from Andrea H.
It's 6:00am and I am filled with dread at the prospect of...showering. I stand outside facing the curtain for 2 - 3 minutes just mentally preparing myself for the either scalding hot or ice cold water adventure that is to come. Even after 5 days at the hotel, I still would spend the first few minutes of my shower adjusting between the two, hoping that I would find a happy medium before resigning myself to the fact that I will have to shower by quickly sticking the necessary limbs under the water before I end up with third degree burns or hypothermia. And to top it all off, the water pressure is horrible so the suffering will be twice as long. I swear, I'm going to need therapy for this.
The hotel is delightfully located in a pretty bad area between the train tracks and the highway, so if you like to jog, make sure you don't go the wrong way or you may end up running for your life.
Other than the horrible shower and the kinda shady location, it's a pretty standard Hyatt. The staff is helpful and friendly and it is pretty close to downtown. The food is hit or miss, so we usually ended up going out to eat. Just make sure you don't walk after dark (that's coming from the hotel concierge). -
I was in Dallas at a convention for work and stayed at the Hyatt Regency. Pretty package on the outside and in the lobby but not all together impressive otherwise.
I arrived and was able to check in early which was nice. They put me in a handicap accessible room which just means there's no counter space in the bathroom which is less than desirable as a female. When I got to my room there were no hangers. Being that I was on a business trip, this was a problem. I called the front desk to have someone bring a few up and apparently "right away" meant one hour. The 'cleaning' of the room was not impressive and no toiletries or towels were replaced with fresh ones. With only one bath towel left, I showered and didn't realize until after the fact that it was dirtied with someone else's makeup. Disgusting! (I just kept my fingers crossed that the towel was stained and had indeed been washed...ick!) Something that may seem trivial: not everyone likes the smell of white ginger and all the hotel supplied toiletries smelled very strongly of it. Not a fan. Oh, and the shower head could have been better being that this is the Hyatt.
On the positive side, the lobby and common areas were nicely decorated and neatly kept. I stayed in the Skyline Tower and there was almost always an elevator waiting for me on the ground floor which is a plus. The view of the city from the large windows in my room was nice. The bed was comfortable and the hotel bar/reception area was the perfect place to meet with customers before and after the convention.
The hotel is incredibly convenient if you're only going to the convention center. If you're looking to eat somewhere other than the over-priced hotel restaurant, there is virtually nothing within walking distance.
Bottom line: next time I'm in Dallas, I'll choose a different hotel.Comment from Fred E. of Hyatt Regency Dallas 8/26/2011
Apologies in advance for this, but I just had to throw it out there...
What's Bruce Lee's favorite hotel??
.
.
HyyyyyyyyoTTT!!! (alright, it probably comes over much better in person... or.. maybe not).
This particular Hyatt would not be counted as one of *my* favorites, however, I did have a pleasant stay and you really can't beat the price ($70 on Priceline for a 1 bedroom Friday-Sunday, April 4-6).
A couple of suggestions... I would definitely stay in the Atrium tower if it's available vs. the other tower facing the railroad. The Atrium also seemed more newly renovated with high-end bathroom hardware and room furniture (got to see rooms in both towers).
I'd also avoid the self check-in stations. Although they may seem convenient and faster than waiting in line, I wound up not getting the king bed that I had requested in advance, and you're pretty much stuck with whatever room in whichever tower you get assigned to.
Beds were, as noted in other reviews, very comfy, and I definitely appreciated the iPod-enabled alarm clock next to the bed. I also found the staff both friendly and accommodating.
Location is great, for downtown, but parking is an issue. There's valet for $19 per day (with in and out privileges) and there's also a lot across the street for a max of $10, but if you leave, the clock starts all over again. -
So as I was driving into Dallas I was joking about this silly looking water tower thing... then I drove up and found out it was attached to my hotel. Imagine my surprise.
That aside this hotel is HUGE with a grand total of 1,100 room. However, despite its size and impressive court yard area I really have to lower the rating on this hotel because its actually hard to sleep here. A good number of the rooms overlook a train track and as a result people who stay in those rooms can look forward to bells and noise. A lot of other rooms are also near the court yard which echos sound and will also keep you up if there are a few loud business people down there.
Oh and one other big problem.... I HATE the fact that this place actually charges $10 / day for wifi access. This is such a tacky thing to do in this day and age as most hotels comp that stuff.
Anyway, while i can't say they did anything to really bug me there are a lot of little things wrong that to me say look harder elsewhere. -
Love this hotel - the rooms are very new looking and have been clean all 3 times i've stayed here. We had an issue last night with a drunk woman screaming and banging on the door of Steve, her (I assume) soon to be ex-husband. Called security and they came up within minutes, took care of her, and even put a note under our door apologizing for the disturbance.
Oh - the TV is an old CRT type - which would be fine - except the channels were all fuzzy. Not cool.
The valet parking is quick, though I wish there was a self-park option, as $19/night is kind of expensive - especially with how much the hotel room iteself costs.
I highly recommend wandering around the lobby and reading the history of Dallas - there are lots of pictures and stories to read. -
Hyatt Regency Dallas is a hotel that has split personalities. Sort of like the Harvey Dent of hotels. Notice how strenghts of the hotel can suddenly become weaknesses or vice versa.....
It's located next to Union Station.
YAY! It's easy access to the light rail lines and regular rail lines. There's even a tunnel that connects to the station so that you don't have to go outside.
FLIPSIDE: It can be loud. Especially if you have one of the lower floor rooms next to the station.
It's a downtown hotel that's a little bit secluded.
YAY! For the center of a large metro area, you don't really hear the bustle and churn of the city. There are actually birds chirping outside when you walk.
FLIPSIDE: There aren't any restaurants or significant parts of the city close by. You have to do at least a short walk (under an overpass) just to reconnect with the city. Businesses are another short walk beyond that.
It's an upscale hotel.
YAY! It's fairly swank with glass elevators with views of the lobby, piano players next to the restaurants, hotel bar with four separate TVs (and a giant projection on the back wall) and Reunion tower right next door.
FLIPSIDE: As opposed to budget places, there's no free breakfast buffet included. All of these things will cost you extra.
The staff was very helpful and friendly.
YAY! Everyone was extremely friendly, from the front desk to the maids. At one point I was walking by one of the restaurants and saw someone eating dessert. I thought I'd give it a try and walked up and asked the greeter about getting dessert to go. So he brought out a huge dessert in a box to try....and waved off any charges saying that it was "on the house".
FLIPSIDE: You feel like you want to tip them more. Your wallet is much lighter (which could be a positive if you're trying to lose weight). -
I stayed here for a weekend in April 2010 for a wedding. At first, I was extremely excited because when you drive up to the hotel it screams "LOOK AT ME! I'M SHINY! I HAVE A GIANT BALL THAT GLOWS AT NIGHT! I LOOK LIKE A MINI CITY!" And for that, it is like being in a mini town. This hotel is just huge, I honestly don't know how many rooms there are or where everything is. I really couldn't wait to spend my time here.
Well, my hopes were almost instantly dashed. Easter weekend in Dallas is not a good idea to go on vacation. There were a million people checking in for a religious convention, and so the service was ultimately slowed and rushed. There is no free parking here, you are either forced to valet your car at $20/night or park across the street at $10 for each entry. I guess I just assumed it would be free seeing how large the hotel is, but whatever. To get your car out of hostage, you have to find the little valet register down a hallway and hand in your ticket before your car is retrieved. Certain valet employees are nice and talk to you and open your door and take your luggage; others open the door and walk away. Some don't open the door at all (no offense, but I'm a lady, and at a hotel, i like to be treated like one. Please open the door for me!).
Our hotel room was ok. Nothing special, really. Our door looked like it had been kicked several times for no reason. Our view was of the entrance and the train tracks. If you happen to be on this side of the hotel, be prepared to hear several train whistles during the early morning, afternoon, and evening. Wonderful. The furniture looked dated and in need of repair or replacement. I woke up early in the morning because people were talking in front of our door and since the door is so thin, i could hear every word they were saying.
The lobby is nice and the bar upstairs looked decent even though i didn't stay to have a drink. Hmm.
We had come back late after the wedding and there was no valet available so we were forced to park in the lot across the street. As soon as we walked up, the valets appeared. Where did they go for ten minutes? I'm not sure, but you lose brownie points for that one.
The room service menu prices are way too extreme for what you probably end up getting. Prices will range from $10-20 for things as simple as an omelette and turkey sandwiches. Don't get me started on how much the coffee is, and I don't even drink the stuff.
Upon checking out, we realized we could use the television for express check out. Everything worked fine until the end and then an error screen appeared and told us to try again. So, we went downstairs to the express check out in the lobby. That computer told us our room number didn't match the name it was under. WTF? Finally, we were forced to go to the front desk itself where two female employees were too busy talking to each other than print the receipts. Ugh. Even the express airport boarding pass printing didn't work. Completely disappointing.
For the most part, our stay was ok, it's the employees and parts of the hotel that need work. -
I don't do fancy hotels. This one got forced on me. Of course it was mega luxurious. The real perks: location, architecture and the view of downtown Dallas from my window. Mother f-ing spectacular! At night i felt like i was on the observation deck of the Death Star. I'm sorry that not everyone who stays here gets that view. Now my beef. I guess Wolfgang Suck(cheap joke, i know) opened a restaurant here. Mr. Foie Gras goose force-feeder himself. But that's a minor gripe.
The big xmas tree topper on top of the Reunion tower is really cool to stare at when you're drunk.Listed in: Honeymoon 66'06, Places i've Been Naked
After, my last disatorous choice of a "hotel" in Orlando, my mom was quick to make sure that she would like the place we stayed at in Dallas for this past weekends Rock n' Roll Half Marathon. I never felt so fancy and was so glad that I did not drive my crappy Ford Focus. I would have been super embarrassed getting that thing valet parked next to the dozen or so Hummers running around there.
The bed was so comfortable and could even be purchased for the the low, low price of $1100. We were on the 14th floor so there was some major vertigo going on but it was cool to look straight down at the giant star on the 2nd floor. I love that it was connected to the Union Station stop which made getting back from the race super easy.
Only 4 stars because of the ridonkulous prices for everything inside the hotel. $20 an hour for internet usage at the cafe? $4.99 for a tiny bottle of aspirin? Are you serious? I used to work on a cruise ship and I don't even think we charged that much for things.
Also, the location is convenient being right off the highway and not hard to miss. However, it would have been nice to be able to walk outside the hotel and have some choice of restaurants easily available w/o having to jump on the dart or walk several blocks. Because we were extremely tired after a 3 hour drive with a toddler, we did not have the energy to go out for food and ended up paying a shocking price for room service food. -
Don't get me wrong, I love Hyatt; I'm a Hyatt guy afterall, but the only reason you would stay at this Regency is if you're here for a convention or conference. I've been staying here for the past few months now for work and I'm over it...the staff is friendly/helpful, and the people working at Centennial restaurant are great, but unless the hotel expects to be crowded for a convention (which they know of weeks before), there's hardly anyone working front desk/concierge desk. Especially when you need a driver to downtown (since it's not close to downtown at all), it sucks when they don't have one available.
The hotel isn't really walking distance to downtown. You can take DART (which is pretty sketchy after working hours) or taxi, or driver if they have on available.
Also, probably the biggest thing that irked me, is one side of the hotel (so half of all the rooms), are right next to the train tracks. Be prepared to wake up multiple times during the night.
At least the hotels connected to Wolfgang's Puck restaurant at Reunion Tower? That's pretty cool... -
I can't believe Hyatt calls this location a 4 Star hotel. Once a HUGE Hyatt fan, I've had two very poor experiences in Regency locations lately. The bed was hard and worn out (they thought a feather bed on the top would fix the issue... it didn't), and the bed creaked and cracked every time i moved. Just think if I wasn't travelling alone... The bathroom was decent, but the doors were parlor style with a big gap which wouldn't allow for privacy. The biggest issue - my room overlooked the train station and the rumblings of trains every 7 minutes got to be a bit old.
While a few people were very helpful, by and large the service was very slow and not very friendly. I would not visit this hotel again, and I'm starting to rethink Hyatt Regency as a brand... -
The only reason I picked this hotel was because of the conference I was attending. The location ended up being alright, esp. since it was near the DART union station. There was even a tunnel that went from the hotel to the station.
The Room:
The room was large and I had a great view (sarcasm) of the highway. The room was clean and promptly cleaned each day. The desk faced out toward the window, which was nice. The bed was comfy, but as always (almost), the pillows are too soft and suck.
The Food:
The only food that I had was provided as part of the conference, but was prepared by the hotel. The food was great, which im actually surprised about. The breakfasts included, bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes and pastries. All decent. Lunches were 3 course sit down affairs. The first included a chicken with orzo and asparagus, a nice salad and peanut butter cake. The second lunch was a decent Capri salad, though the tomatoes were a bit underripe. The main course was a decent steak with polento and carrots. The chocolate cake for the last part was delicious.
The Service:
I didn't have much need for this, but it was good.
Overall 4 stars. -
OK, so in the words of my husband "I like my freedom" and we really didn't feel like we had that with this hotel! I have to sit there forever and wait on some 12 year old valet to bring us our truck! The fact that the train station is between the hotel and all of Dallas! You have to walk through the Holland tunnel to get to it (grant, slightly over-exaggerating to make my point, irrelevant). BTW, it's dark in there and my husband is very strong, but I was still afraid for us to walk. Getting a taxi on the weekend of the world series in the neighboring city, me thinks not. Ugh...felt stranded. Anyway, maybe in a different situation, ok, but it just didn't work for us. Dallas is a city that is host to many large events that clog up the works and I feel that if this hotel can't even handle parking my vehicle, maybe they can't handle me and half of the other peeps there. The view from the 14th floor looking out to the city with a storm rolling in, magnificent, no doubt, but very part of the experience, tip here, tip there, expensive food, etc. Also, we were interested in going to the five sixty restaurant upstairs (Wolfgang's restaurant), but just as the rest of the "experience", it was just too much. Have to put on your prom dress and then make serious reservations for MAJORLY overpriced food. I mean $15 for a drink, really? I almost forgot to tell you the nuggets that make me question the 4 star / 5 star, whatever solar system rating the hotel has been given... there are cobwebs all over the ceilings and I was under-impressed with the linens, pillows, etc. I may be the princess and the pea, but never the less, with that price tag, I expect to be treated like a queen. No mini-fridge! Here's the deal high rollin'...if you want me to pay for everything else, parking $22/night valet (if you don't do that you have to park in scary town = under the crazy train bridge and pay $10 every time you take it out of the lot), tips for the fella that turns on the lights in my hotel room, wifi...don't make me do without a mini-fridge stocked full of marked up baby bottles of booze. Hello...I would pay for all of those, not the bottled water that you put in the room with a sweet note reading "Refresh $4.50"! I told my husband don't use the shampoo, the probably just forgot to hang the sign on it! :) As I write the review I know, I'm getting more frustrated by the minute. I should not take this experience out on someone like the sweet little girl that checked me in, but folks, unless this is how you permanently roll...don't do it. I wanted a special weekend with my husband and it turned into a nightmare.
I am so disappointed with this Hyatt. The location, overall, is great as it is Downtown Dallas. Alas, it is NOT in Downtown Dallas but in a netherworld between Downtown and the down-trodden area around the Jail; separated from both by highways and trains.
You have the niceties of a Hyatt on the interior of the hotel, but it was set-up as a hermetic box that just does not live up to its potential due to the lack of accessible pedestrian traffic. I walked to Downtown from the Hyatt and was continually looking around corners as I walked under the train and highway bridges. I am not very fond of this Hyatt. -
I'm a Diamond level Hyatt member (top rewards evel) and stayed here was to use up a free night that was about to expire. Took the family for a "stay-cation" during Spring break--seeing some local sites and eating out. The family usually gets a kick out of staying at a "fancy" hotel, but we were all disappointed with this Hyatt. Typically Regency's around the world are truly "first-class", but this one only looks so from the outside, with all the odd-sized rectangular glass and the Reunion tower looming alongside. Once you get inside, you quickly realize that this location is a cash-cow. They're raking in $ from 1000+ rooms and not putting any of it back into renovations.
The standard room is small and very '70's. Bedding ok, but mattress too hard. And not even a mini-bar to stay a cold drink.
All that room on the 3rd floor "sun-deck", yet the pool is maybe 6 by 15 ft in size. If been in hot-tubs larger than their pool.
$19 for valet which you have to wait too long for.
$14 for a breakfast entree, forget about it!
Only giving it two stars because of proximity to Reunion Tower and the nice exterior architecture.
I would never pay to stay here. For the price, you've got lots better choices.
