Hundred holds a little place in my heart. This was the first place the bf and I ever went for dinner (before we were dating). Every time I have been there the food has been great! I love that it's a little bit more upscale and trendy... it could definitely be out of a scene from SATC. This is one of few trendy upscale restaurants that is good for groups! The prices are a little bit higher but it really is a great place! Definitely, try the homemade potato chips with dip! Oh, and I love the little red carpet that leads the way up to the door!

The bf had me at Creme Brûlée!

It's hard to remember the last time I had a lunch this disappointing.

I came here yesterday afternoon for a work luncheon with my department to celebrate a good start to the year. While I was looking forward to an afternoon of indulgence, but the food was so underwhelming it quashed any expectations that I might have had to kick back and relax with my coworkers (I'm sure many can agree that food is that important to the vibe). Not being in the mood for my usual pint of beer, I decided to opt for a lemonade. It was clear that it was made at the bar and was unsweetened with muddled lemon slices at the bottom, which was a touch I appreciated.

We decided on the Chips n'Dip, Lobster Tacos and Calamari for appetizers. With regards to the Chips n'Dip, I can  now say that I spent (actually, my work spent) $8 on what was essentially a bag of chips served in a fancy fry platter. Yay. The dip wasn't as tasty as the refrigerated dip you can get at a convenience store. It was satisfying since it was what I happened to be craving at that moment, but if I had paid for those chips myself, I may have felt like a bit of a sucker. The Lobster Tacos were nice. However, they boast "napa kim chi" and "spicy lobster salad" as ingredients, yet they are extremely mild in flavour. I tasted no spiciness and none of the sourness that is normally present in kim chi. Definitely not what I expected, but they are a nice way to enjoy a little bit of lobster if you don't mind feeling slightly mislead. The calamari seemed pretty standard. The little piece I had was tender, and being someone who is still creeped out by calamari, I can say that if I were a fan I probably would have enjoyed it quite a bit.

For lunch, I ordered the Salmon Banh Mi with a side of that day's soup. Now, I was aware that I was taking a chance ordering a Banh Mi from a place that specializes in more high class "American cuisine" and not Vietnamese food. Well, my concerns were justified. There are certain aspects of a banh mi that make it so desirable. One being the particular type of baguette that they traditionally use. It's usually warmed and has a certain degree of chewiness on the inside and crispiness on the outside. This bun was just soft and dense like a thick sponge and not warmed. The Salmon Banh Mi also featured an arugula pesto. I was curious about this detail, as it replaced the yummy mayo type sauce that is normally used in the sandwich. I wasn't aware that you could consider a tiny squirt of green oil pesto. Where was the arugula? Where was the garlic? The "pesto" completely soaked into the dense bun and added absolutely no degree of flavour or happiness to the sandwich. So that's the 2nd banh mi rule that was broken. The 3rd was the pickled vegetables. Usually there is a pickled daikon and carrot, but the pickled shallots included in my salmon banh mi may as well not have been in the sandwich because they didn't add the flavour complexity (if any) to the sandwich. The salmon was cooked well, but low in flavour and difficult to eat since they were two rather large pieces stuffed in the baguette. So the protein portion was average at best. The soup was not worth detailing. It was okay, and had pieces of ginger for flavour. Meh. And strangely, upon receiving my lemonade refill, it came with 7-Up and muddled lemons instead of water and muddled lemons like what I had initially received. I think it's a fairly reasonable expectation to receive the same product you initially ordered when it comes to refills. Oh well.

Our server was not bad. He seemed a bit agitated and haughty but maybe he was having a stressful day. No harm done, but something I figured was worth mentioning.

It's marketed as upscale, and I know their Chef de Cuisine has that cool idea of the back alley burger that many people may have heard of, amongst other things like tasting menus that draw in customers. The vibe of the restaurant is not bad, and it is a nice place to relax with friends. Since their head chef seems ambitious and capable, maybe he just has nothing to do with the lunch menu and that's why it sucks so much. I still want to try the CHG alley burger because I want to give the chef the benefit of the doubt, but yesterday's lunch made me sad and I went back to work feeling slightly depressed.

I really enjoy my time at Hundred. Its definitely a dressier crowd, and I would certainly make a reservation if you would like to be guaranteed a table. The ambience is trendy with a DJ and colored pot lighting. It can get quite loud, so don't go there for an intimate evening. Great for big groups or for a pre-bar drink and food stop. We are a noisy group of girls so we don't mind having to scream back and forth at each other.

The food is pretty good. The free range chicken I had with gnocchi was a bit on the salty side, but the prices are fair for the quality. Really good drinks too. Love the lychee martini!

I had a martini, starter caesar salad, free range chicken, a latte and creme brûlée. After tip my bill was $78. Non regrets - we had a great time!

Terrible service, and food that is 'just ok.'  Our waitress probably didn't feel it was necessary to give us anything remotely like good service since we were a large group so gratuity was already a given.  There were periods of 20 minutes where she would not come by and she would be found around the corner socializing with a table of her friends.  Same thing happened when waiting 15 - 20 minutes for the bill to be picked up.  Would not recommend.

Although I'm not a fan of the service or their regular menu at Hundred Bar and Kitchen, Chef Andrew Cowan's delicious off menu dinners are worth every cent! You can book an off menu dinner with Chef Cowan approximately one week prior and we've seen it range from $48-$65 per person for approximately 5-8 courses. Every crazy thing that he comes up with inside of his head ends up as the most delicious concoction you've ever tasted. You'll never leave feeling hungry, usually with a few leftovers, if not in a food coma. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

Trendy after work crowd of folks who look very important. The energy in the restaurant moved from after dinner drinks to a cool and hip supper crowd. A nice mix of young Urbans and mature VIPs and welcoming to all.  The atmosphere makes you feel special and the wine list was amazing. Lots of variety and good selection by the glass.

Appetizers were a great size for sharing.  We had the Lobster Tacos which were cool, fresh and had a pleasant crunch to them.  The Goat Cheese and Blueberry preserve was amazing with a contrast of creamy warm cheese and the sweet of the berry flavor.  The Kobe Beef Carpaccio was my favorite. it was served with Parmesan cheese on top and cool onions.  It was satisfying but light too.

The New York Steak with blue cheese sauce and prawns was perfectly portioned after having our appetizers and though the steak was a bit over cooked for my order, it was flavorful and tender.

All in all, thank you 100 for great atmosphere and service.  Appetizers are my favorite and it would be a great girls' night out destination for me next time!

    Pretentious, Yuppie, Expensive... read on,

My friends and I came here because it was the only place that wasn't crowded, where we could get a table right away. Sherlock Holmes Pub across the street was packed. After we sat down and looked at the menu it was easy to see why nobody was at the Hundred Bar Kitchen.

They serve tiny morsels of food for big prices. I got the 8 oz Hundred's Prime Burger. It actually wasn't too bad, the beef was succulent, warm, and comfortable. I didn't care for the tomato jam that it came with (I guess tomato jam is the "young upwardly mobile professional", urbanite version of ketchup). It was not worth twenty three dollars. C'mon, it's a burger. My god. It was served with onion rings...truffle onion rings.

The servers were personable and attentive in their short, low cut dresses. They looked more like they should be posing on the hood of a Lamborghini than serving food. Maybe that's what they wished they were doing. One of the guys in our group was forgotten about. Everybody had their orders but him. The server apologized and told him that his meal would be ready in four minutes, MAX. She seemed genuinely sorry that she forgot about him.

This the kind of place that you would take people to show them how "uptown" and sophisticated you think you are before you all head off to a Dave Matthews Band concert. It may be a good place for people that like pub food but don't want to admit that they like pub food. I recommend sneaking in ketchup packets.

I can't stop thinking about those onion rings...truffle onion rings.

Bang! $5 for delicious burgers that are served out in an alley behind Hundred Bar and Kitchen.  With smells of burning fat and cold air flowing through the narrow aisle, alley burger has the bare feel of high quality city living.

An interesting concept, perhaps conceived to popularize the restaurant Hundred Bar and Kitchen, it's slowly become a giant in the online/twitter community where folks wait for the random message from Chef Andrew Cowan of when the next alley burger is going to happen.  Roughly once a month (perhaps more often, not sure), Chef Cowan declares with no more than a day's notice that he's planning to serve burgers in the back alley.  People from all walks of life gather for this delicious experience.
    (twitter link)

I've been just once.  It's certainly the best $5 burger I've had and perhaps ranks as one of the better burger experiences overall.  Every month it's a different burger and this time when I went, it was a modern take on the classic Aussie burger.  Thick juicy patty (at least 1/3 oz), fried egg, bacon, white cheddar and arugula.  The arugula blended beautifully with the fried egg and cheddar.  Very juicy burger!

My only real complaint is that they serve it too early (7 p.m.). I'm guessing Edmonton is still a pretty early-to-bed kind of city, but it'd be awesome if they were doing this more at 10 p.m. or at least 9 p.m.  Given that it was on a Friday night, I thought 7 p.m. was a little unfortunate.

Hundred is one of my favourite lounges in Edmonton, because their food & cocktails are to die for even if the service leaves something to be desired. My favourite items on the menu include the beer battered onion rings with homemade ranch and the rack of lamb. Much of the clientele at Hundred seems to be downtown business men, so business dress is the usual if not required. I never sure, so I just wear a dress to be on the safe side. Prices are big, servers are snooty, but it's still a nice stop if you're out to see a show at the Citadel. It's too bad they're not at a location that can accommodate a patio, I'd probably never leave.

I've never actually been inside Hundred Bar + Kitchen, I have only ever stood out back in the alley.
Every so often, the head chef (@chefcowan) will tweet that he is making alley burgers and gives the designated time.
Trust me, you want this information.
At the predetermined time, the alley door opens, and Chef Cowan trades money ($5!) for a poker chip - this chip ensures your journey to burger heaven.
Then come the burgers; stacked on trays, they are traded for the poker chips, and everybody in line digs in and chows down right there in the alley.
Every time is it something different - kobe beef, bison, olive tapenade, red pepper relish, a quail egg, bacon and, of course, cheese, cheese, cheese.
I have tried all but one, and they have all been a wonderfully delicious experience.
A gourmet burger for $5, served and eaten standing in an alley downtown.
How can you pass that up?

Hundred Bar and Kitchen is definitely not your average lunch or dinner stop in the city. This isn't the type of place you come in wearing sweatpants and flip flops, this is a place you go to make a night of it, indulge in great food, and imbibe on many a cocktail.

The staff are friendly, and you will occasionally spot one of their dedicated chefs emerging from the kitchen to chat up customers and discuss the meal.

My mom had one rule when we went out to eat: never order something you usually make at home. The biggest offender, in her eyes, was spaghetti and meatballs.

Well, I'm sorry Mom, but the Kobe beef meatballs and spaghetti is mouthwateringly good enough to make me ignore your motherly advice. The meatballs are soft, tender, and slightly crumbly. The spaghetti is cooked to perfection with just enough sauce and cheese to add to the meal. Heavenly is a word I'd use to describe the meal.

Follow it up with some creme brulee for desert, the kind that makes you forget everyone else in the restaurant and makes you want a moment alone to just focus on the flavours.

I would also recommend their truffle popcorn - delish!

Hundred is also a great place to hold a dinner, fundraiser, birthday, or similar event. They have a loft which you can request, which is semi private and spacious. The only downfall is that the restaurant does get quite loud, so speeches would be very tough to hear. However, service makes up for it. The team at Hundred work very hard with you to make your event work.

Added note: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, if you're there later, a DJ comes in to keep the mood up.

Hundred is not normally the type of place I would choose to spend an evening, but since I work down the street I've ended up here a few times for an after work drink when others were choosing the venue. It's the type of place that caters to the after-work, young professionals and girls who want to get dressed up for their birthday and have a "fancy" night out crowd. High ceiling, low booths, dim lighting, loud music and barely dressed waitresses. Now I'm no prude by any means, but some of these girls could not possibly be wearing shorter skirts or smaller tops. Whatever, I suppose it works on some of the clientele.

The first time I went to Hundred I asked if they had a drink menu - no. Since I was pretty broke at the time, I decided to just go with what I thought was a safe choice and get a beer (Keith's). Two beers and one mixed drink later (Happy Hour - $5 highballs and domestic bottles on Fridays), my bill came to $20.50. $7.75 for a pint! I thought that was pretty steep. Sure, I could go with the highballs, but since I only ever go here after work and have to drive home afterwards, sometimes it's nice to just have a beer or two rather than highballs. Hundred also has a full menu, but I've never eaten there. Several of the people I work with rave about the Bacon Cheeseburger Perogies, but I've never tried them. I've seen a few of the other dishes as well, and while everything seems like it is decent, it is also overpriced for my tastes.

The service is less than stellar. All of the waiters/waitresses I've had have definitely been friendly, talkative and funny, I'll give them that, but (and I hate to say it) they have not been the brightest. Forgetting drinks, taking a long time to bring bottles of beer, etc. One thing that sticks out in my head - two colleagues of mine had eaten and were looking at the menu for some dessert. The waitress came by and asked if they were interested in dessert (yes). They then asked if there was a separate dessert menu - the waitress says yes. Then they have to specifically ask "Well, can we see it please?". It just seemed like a no-brainer and she should have offered the menu rather than them having to lead her into bringing it.

To me, Hundred is one of those typical places in Edmonton that tries to be more than what it really is - some upscale, hip and happening place where all the beautiful people will go and all the girls think they're in Sex and the City or something. On the weekends, they even put a red carpet outside leading to the door - give me a break. I think they also have DJs on the weekend.

I would never choose to go here on my own, but I'm sure I'll end up here again after work.

Hundred is not somewhere I'd say I would typically go. Maybe for a girls night out for drinks, but we popped in for drinks and a snack after the symphony and the main thing I can say is.... get the chili dog sliders. I am not exaggerating when I say they are the most amazing chili dogs and hot dogs I've ever had in my whole life. No. Joke.

The chili dogs come topped with what I'm assuming is made in house chili because it was divine, a hot dog made of good kobe beef, a really fresh bun and cheese melted on top. They come three to a plate and we split them. 1.5 was the perfect amount.

Not that they pair well, but I tried the two different white wine flights. I would suggest the Globetrotting flight over the BC flight. Being from BC and having an idea of what wine we had I found their options to be not representative of what good whites BC has, but the globetrotting flight was quite lovely.

I was impressed by the quality of the food, service and the price point.

My major warning would be, if you aren't interested in Ed Hard, Affliction or having your bottom ogled over by middle aged men then you probably want to hit Hundred not on a Friday night. But other than that, do it and get the chili dogs!

First time at a Century Hospitality restuarant, although I would say 'Bar and Kitchen' is the more accurate term. I'm hoping that the rest of their portfolio is up to this standard.

The decor was my style. Think of sleek, sexy and comfortably upscale. Even on the worst first date you would still feel comfortable.

I usually opt for the wine, but their drink menu looked interesting so I tried a few out. I had the Bubbles de Luxe and Guava Gold, both based around Canella Prosecco sparkling. I would stick with the Guava Gold next time, considering that I used to work in a restuarant and I don't trust 'bar fruit.' I did note that they havd a very large selection of beer, wine and scotch. They even had 8 different types of caesar's to choose from.

We decided to share 3 appetizers; Baked Goat Cheese, Porcupine Chicken Satays and Hamachi Tartar. All were amazing. I especially loved the Baked Goat Cheese. I order this from almost every restuarant that I go to, if they have it listed. This one was especially good. I usually do not add the cranberries as they are too sweet or too bitter, but Hundred uses cherry relish which was a perfect accdent to the goat cheese.

The service could have been a bit better, but our server paid decent attention to us. It was pretty busy since we arrived on a Friday night and stayed between 7pm - 9pm. Since I used to be a server, I pay attention to a lot of different factors that might effect our service.

I will certainly go back, there are many other things that got my attention on the menu and I cannot wait to try them.

Hundred reminds me why I like Yelp.  While it can help out good businesses, it can also serve to warn people about dishonest ones like Hundred.

Our group of six had a reservation for dinner during a busy time.  We didn't get seated until a half hour after our reserved time, but these things happen.

We order, and our food eventually comes out.  The medium-rare steaks that people ordered are all overcooked past well.  One of us sends their overcooked $42 steak back after two bites and doesn't want to get anything else.  The waitress seemed very apologetic, and insisted that he pick something else, so he got sliders that were dry.  These things also happen.

At the end of the meal, we get a bill that seems a bit high, with a $80+ unmarked charge between the $250 subtotal and the tax.  Since there were 6 of us, we assumed that there would be a 18% tip added, but this over 30% mystery charge also had $42 for the returned steak.  They overtly tried to rip us off, thinking that we were either too drunk or stupid to notice.

In summary, seating and service was slow, the food was overcooked, and they tried to steal money from us.  Do not give these dishonest people your business.

I'm assuming that the other Century-owned businesses (Lux, Delux, Century Grill) also might try these sorts of tricks.  There are plenty of good restaurants in Edmonton that won't try to steal from you, so there's no need to go to any of these places.

When I first moved to Edmonton, I lived across the street at the Fairmont for about a month so I frequented Hundred. It was close and the food and drinks were good.

Right off the bat, I got to meet the GM (Ian), one of the partners (Dean) and a hilarious Sous Chef named Gerardo. The bartenders are especially friendly (especially Kevin, who they call K-Mart).

Being from the states, I was really happy with how friendly everyone was to me! Even the regulars were cool as shit.

What about the place itself, though? I love the interior - they were going after a place called STK in the meatpacking district in NYC and I think they did better. High ceilings, rich colors, nothing to distract your eye but just a nice place to look at. Not too light and not too dark, it just seems like it's always warm and comforting in there.

The staff is all well-dressed and good looking. The skinny, bottle blonde waitresses are flirty if not a little arrogant. I found myself biting my tongue a few times because I really wanted to say "you're not hot enough to act like that" but whatever. One of the bartenders (I think her name was Michelle) was very rude and standoffish last week when I went in with a date... I tried cheering her up but she was just distant and obviously didn't feel like being at work. If you're in that kind of a mood, stay home. I honestly contemplated not coming back (off 1 star). There is no reason for any member of the staff to treat a regular like that, especially when I'm on a date!

Food is good, for the most part. I've had almost everything on the menu. The roast chicken with gnocchi is hands-down the best thing on the menu. Amazing. The spaghetti with kobe meatballs is fantastic as well (needs more sauce though) and the seared tuna is good, if not a little expensive. I was NOT a fan of the filet - it had fat and tendons through it and didn't seem like it had been trimmed correctly.

For apps, the moules and frites is AWESOME, along with the truffle popcorn (mmm). I had one of their flatbreads (the seafood one) and was not impressed. Also did not think the kobe sliders were anything to write home about. The sides are MASSIVE so be careful before you order one... I ordered the gnocchi as a side and the bowl was as big as my head. Yikes! So half a star off for the food not being consistently awesome.

Drinks are good - I had a bad bottle of wine there that was bad and they replaced it immediately. Yay! I feel like they can get a bit pricey but I guess that's Canada. Go for the wine flights (they pour them very generously) for $11-12 with dinner and you are set.

I REALLY like this place and REALLY wanted to give it 4 stars, but until they fix the food a little and get rid of obnoxious bartenders, it's a solid three. Definitely check it out, though.

The service was average, but I like the truffle popcorn, and I don't even like truffles, so I was pretty impressed!

It's a cool joint for the yuppie kind of crowd, looking for drinks after work or dinner with the girls (the latter is why I was there). Good music and hot attractive people. Not so bad, right?

Our table was a cool booth-style (we had made a reservation) that made the place our own.

I had foie gras popcorn. Foie. Gras. Popcorn. I could stop right there and be content to revel in my artery-clogging fantasy, but there are so many other treats to mention. I must confess that my 100 experience was a bit out of the ordinary (in a good way), for I enjoyed a custom tasting menu prepared by the chef, which centered on cured meats. Among these meaty treats were cured pork loin with Turkish olives, air-dried Kobe beef with micro arugula, rabbit and foie gras terrine... Duck leg confit on gnocchi with proscuitto followed - so unctuously tasty but my waning appetite forced me to get it "to go." Even dessert featured meat: maple candied bacon and strawberries. 100 itself is a dark and sultry room packed with well-heeled diners. Chic vibe and some damn tasty vittles.

Went there for lunch today with some girlfriends. It was my first time going there. The place looks really nice and fancy--I'd love to go try it out at night for drinks.

The service was meh--the waitress didn't really come around very often to check on us.

The food was ok but not very good. The soft tacos were interesting--not really tacos but shrimp or chicken skewers you can load with sour cream, salsa and cheese and wrap with those rice paper wraps. Wasn't very tasty though. We also ordered the flatbread wth artichoke (I think it was called "Surf")--we asked if we could have another type of cheese instead of the goat cheese and the waitress, after checking with the kitchen, said they didn't have ANY other type of cheese that could be substituted. No feta, no blue cheese...what kind of restaurant doesn't have feta? Weird.. Also got the spinach salad which was pretty large but only spinach. There was a sprinking of oatmeal over it and a teaspoon of dried cranberries (and the goat cheese on the side). Overall not impressd with the food.

    Prices were slightly expensive.

Hundred is a pretty suave place and pretty busy too. It's packed with downtown business men and women in the evenings, especially Fridays.

It has a nice setup. The dining room is separated from a decent sized lounge by a wall and they have booths situated along one side. One thing I thought was really cool was that the booths were secluded. The people in the booths weren't exposed to everyone else they had their own privacy.

The food was good. I only tried the calamari and it wasn't amazing but it was good. It's not necessarily something I will go back for. The waitress wasn't very friendly. I don't thinks he smiled once and rarely came to check in on us. She really seemed like she didn't want to be there.

Overall it is a pretty good atmosphere and probably best to grab a couple drinks from.

A rarity for an upscale joint in Edmonton.  I had always been curious to try out some of the Century Hospitality's restaurants and lounges.  So when my coworkers said let's go there, I was all for it.

Excellent ambiance and set up.  When you walk in is the bar area with high chairs and long tables or individual round tables.  Further in and off to the side is the lounge seating.  So as soon as we walked in, we were served right away.  I mean it was kind of dead so that was expected.  I think they're more known for their wines and spirits over beers, which is understandable for a lounge. Then my bud and I ordered the sliders.  They were pretty tasty with cheese, red onions and bacon.

The only thing that turned me off was our waitress who was busting our chops to order more drinks. I know the place was dead so I guess she was looking to boost her tips.  Anyway other than that, I'd go back.  Actually maybe I'll take Carolina there after our night for dinner at another establishment, which I'm sure I'll rate.
