I love the food and service here. They have fresh and generous sushi portions. One of the best service, I've had in town.
The only drawback, they need better ventilation. I always come out smelling like fried food. -

The first time I had food from Huku-Ya was a huge platter of take-out my friend ordered for our holiday party. The quality of food impressed me, especially for such a large order of food. Everything was delicious. They also threw in some full orders of tempura on the house, which was a very nice touch.
The next time we had a group gathering at my friend's apartment near Lougheed, we decided to go here since it was only a 5-minute walk away. We walked in and the owners recognized my friend and asked us how our party was. They were super friendly and apologized profusely for having us wait 2 minutes for them to clear a large table for us. The food again was delicious across the board for all the dishes. And again, they gave us a complimentary dish - this time, their Crazy Roll. It was freshly made (definitely not a left behind order), and quite yummy.
The quality of food I've had has been consistently good, but what really won me over was their service and friendliness. -

An impressive selection of menu items you would find in many of the more newer downtown, westend Japanese restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised to walk in and have a try of their food one day. On the backside of Lougheed Mall, this restaurant is next to the Red Robin, and the decor here feels like an older Japanese restaurant, with paper lanterns hanging, wooden floors, bamboo greens as decoration, and a big, long sushi bar.
The menu itself is quite extensive, with your typical offerings of maki, sashimi, and cone selections. They also have a wide variety of more imaginative rolls, which includes deep frying them, adding fruits to them, and more. On this day I did not feel too hungry, but ordered the 'Crazy Roll', as they said there was salmon in it, and deep fried, I didn't expect the entire roll to be deep fried. When you think of an order for a roll, you think, not too big, this came out in a long plate, nicely garnished, something you would find in one of the more flashier downtown type restaurants. This one order was filling enough, and tasty, this place also offers an all you can eat menu, which I might have to try on another day.
At our table, nabiyaki udon was also ordered, and the one difference that they did, compared to others, is that they put the two pieces of prawn tempura on the side, and also a lid on the udon coming out from a cooked pot. A pretty good thing, so as not to soggy out the prawns. A place I would come to again, especially for quality of food. -

This place is amazing. The food is delicious, the portions are generous and the service is exceptional. Furthermore, the prices are very reasonable. I called ahead for a pick-up order and when i got there my order was prepared and all ready to go. Soup, salad, and even napkins and chopsticks were all in the bag so i could begin eating right away when I got my order home. The owners are so welcoming and friendly it feels like home. This has definitely become one of my favourite restaurants.

Friendly staff! I've only been there a few times but they've have some of the freshest rolls I've ever had. One of the evenings that I had gone, the place was empty and we were enjoying our meal when the hostess came up to us with a plate of what looked like tempura bits. She said it was on the house and the chef had made it special for us. The Crunch Mountain Roll. AMAZING! Dynamite rolls covered in a mountain of tempura bits with hot sauce and another sauce and it was just so incredibly good. I highly recommend this place!

I'm not sure if this is the same restaurant or owners from a few years back but it's definitely a newer, fresher place. Very welcoming when you walk in, spacious, very clean and the staff all very friendly and attentive. We only wanted a light sushi dinner and light is how we kept it. Everything was fast and fresh. Because we only shared a few items we certainly didn't put the menu to the test... california roll, wild salmon sashimi, ebi nigiri, miso - very basic but all good. We'll be back especially after studying the menu further, they have items you just don't see on the average neighborhood sushi bar which is why I put this under Japanese. Worth going with a group so that you can sample more items like the Soft Shell Crab Teishoku... deep fried whole piece of soft shell crab on salad... sounds good.
