This is a great spot when you have a hankering for a juicy burger (I only eat 'happy meat') so my default is the sushi burger with seared tuna with avocado, Wasabi mayo and lettuce and a side of yam fries. Most of the company I keep prefer their burgers Traditional in style (beef) and from what I hear, they're also pretty tasty.
The best part is, that they almost always have a spot open, so you don't have to wait in line (even on the weekend) which is unheard of for the Yaletown location that it's in. They have a decent wine list, a good selection of beer and even some yummy deserts.
I'm not particularly fond of the environment as it can often get a little loud at the bar if there is a game on; and when there isn't the noise it's the visual violation of having to watch some of the waitresses try and boost their hourly wage by flaunting about in front of the men who have had the most to drink.
I'm all about woking it when appropriate but when I said flaunting I think I meant flailing... almost to the point where you might expect a wardrobe malfunction.
Haha... thinking about it now in front of my laptop it's actually quite funny, so much easier to see the humour in things when you don't have to worry about loosing your appetite.
Over all: Good food, good prices, decent environment and no hassles getting a seat when your too tired to wait in line elsewhere. -

they have a great selection of drinks but the mojitos are the best ive had in town
so far! im not a huge fan of the food here atmosphere is good though although sometimes the music is cranked up a little too much that you cant hearwhat the people at your table at saying customer service is quite good we ordered the bruschetta and we did not like it was left untouched and the waitress ended up taking it back and taking it off our tab which was quite nice of her.
I still love this place and will continue going for them Mojitos! yum -

Burnaby, BC
I ordered the Classic Burger with a side salad. I like the shredded lettuce used, the bun was soft and didn't become soggy with the sauce. I also liked the fact the sauce was situated in the middle of the burger rather than oozing out of the entire thing. My only gripe was the patty - it was skinny and a bit over done (ie, crispy).
Adrian went for the Crab Mac n'Cheese with a side salad. The description on the menu was "gruyere, parmesan and aged cheddar". I had a bite and you can definitely taste the gruyere's creaminess and interesting taste. They used the corkscrew macaroni rather than the elbow kind. I like the corkscrew macaroni better because I think it locks in the flavour better. The only complaint I heard from Adrian was, "Wheres the crab?".
The service was great, they came to check on us several times and to refill our glasses - even though we were one of their lasts customers of the night. I'd definitely like to come back during normal service hours and see what the food is like! [read the rest of the review on http://gastrofork.ca!] -

It's unfortunate, but Hub is typical of the generic Yaletown dining experience. Moderate pub food menu, attempts at some fancier items, and served by young girls with no eating experience to do the duty of answering your questions. When asked "How's your pineapple mojito?", we received a "I don't really like pineapple."
The food is actually ok, but not memorable. I could take a group of people here and most of them would be satisfied, but repeat-visit-mojo is what floats my boat. If this were a report card, it would read "Meets expectations".
Hub could serve well as a local hangout or sports bar - they have ample TVs - but the beer sleeves are too generic and expensive for my taste. FYI, the $7.50 '20oz Stella' is actually served in a 50cl glass, which is only 16.9oz. I've had enough beers on tap to instantly spot that old trick. Also, I'll never know why Stella, in general, is priced at a premium.
+1 to the Brownie Pazookie dessert.
One advantage is that is indeed not the busiest place on the strip on a weekend. I was actually able to get a table with 3 other guests without waiting on a Saturday night at 9pm.Listed in: Yelp's 30-day Challenge

Yaletown restaurants are a dime a dozen. But I am glad we decided to check this place out. Sure the place was only about 25% occupied, but
sometimes you just have to go off the beaten path.
The patio is definitely worth mentioning. It provides a great street-level view, and comes heated (obviously not during the summer). They even leave blankets on the chairs as you walk in, just in case you get chilly.
On Sundays there are 2 specials:
1) all drink specials (Monday to Saturday) are valid. There are $4.50 beers, and $6 double caesars. Yay!
2) Prime Rib special - $40 for 2 people (ie $20 each). My friends had this, and you get a very decent slab of meat. If I wasn't already bloated, I would've totally jumped all over this deal. Oh, and it comes with this super deadly apple crisp. Make sure you're in a group, because there is no way 2 people can finish this. And bring some insulin guns.
The washroom needs a bit of work. Not only did they (guy side) have a bit of an odour, but the urinal is placed in a really awkward position. This ain't no Joey's or Chop. But the food here is a good deal for the value. I left happy. -

I stopped in here for appy's the other day. I feel the need to mention their appetizers are ONLY worth it between 3pm and 6pm when they are all $7.
We initially ordered a raspberry margarita to drink...which we ended up sending back because, well...it wasn't a margarita. It was lime juice mixed with muddled raspberries on ice and tequila of course. Margarita is a blended ice drink...not a cocktail on ice? But they took it off the bill without argument.
The nachos were quite good but a tiny, tiny portion (ridiculously small considering nachos are normally $13!) The bruschetta was a decent size, fresh and yummy; although if you don't eat it fast enough the bread gets soggy from the tomatoes. We also had onion rings with chipotle mayo, I was pretty full by this point but they were also good, once again a small portion though!
This wouldn't be worth it for the typical prices but during their appy "happy hour" it was well worth it, we were stuffed full of food and the bill was only $21! -

Oh dear. This was an awful experience.
First off, it smelled like hockey gear in there. At first, I thought that it might have been just near the hostess stand - maybe someone had left a dirty rag there. Unfortunately, the whole place really did smell strange. I think they need to change out their rags. Ugh. Maybe this is why the patio was full and the restaurant was mostly empty despite the rain.
Second, our server was AWFUL. When I said I'd start with water, she suggested that I get a mojito. I told her that I don't really drink, and she said "You should really try a mojito - it's really refreshing." Really? Are you a pusher, or something? I just said that I don't drink alcohol.
I ended up ordering a pineapple juice with sprite, and she brought me a glass of pineapple juice AND a glass of sprite. When I told her what I'd wanted, she looked at me like *I* was an idiot. I've ordered a pineapple juice with sprite hundreds of times in different cities all over North America, and this is the first time that's ever happened. It was kinda funny when we got the bill, because she acted as though having juice and soda was the weirdest thing ever, and yet it was corrected on the bill as "juice and soda." heh.
Next, she took our order without writing it down. Based on how shaky she was and her performance thus far, we were really curious as to what she was actually going to bring us. Sure enough, about 10 minutes after taking our order, she comes back and says "Sorry, I made an error, what were your side dishes?" Mine was caesar salad (with a beef dip), but my husband ordered spaghetti carbonara (obivously without a side dish)....so clearly she'd just completely forgotten our order. Honey, that's not "making an error" - you forgot our order. Just say that you forgot our order FFS.
Miraculously, we ended up getting the right food after all. The food itself actually wasn't that bad. The poutine was salty, and the gravy was a bit too wine-y, but otherwise not bad. The carbonara was bland, but not inedible. My beef dip had soft bread, but other than that was pretty good. That said, the food wasn't good enough to make for the shitty service.
All in all, it was a strange experience. I only went here because I'd purchased a Groupon, and it was one of those situations where as soon as I walked in, I wanted to walk out. I should have followed my gut and come back to use the Groupon on a busier night - perhaps it would have had a more lively vibe and better staff onsite. -

This is a definite "meh". Came here for brunch and tried asking for an omelette, which wasn't on the menu, and apparently that was too complicated. The brunch menu was short on gluten free options so I then asked for the breakfast burrito, minus the flour tortilla. Our server was happy to (attempt to) oblige but unfortunately I got a very sad looking plate of runny eggs with avocado, salad and proceesed cheese. Very unappetizing.
The patio is great and our server and prompt and friendly enough, but there are many other patios in the neighbourhood that serve a decent brunch. I would come back for drinks, maybe, but that's about it. -

Love the selection for Caesars. Very original line up of creative variations on the drink.
What I love most is their Crack Burger! That thing may just very well BE ON CRACK! For a BC burger where all patties have to be well done (unlike their juicy and moist cousins in the US), this burger was seasoned perfectly and exploding with flavor.
But for the crab Mac and cheese....where da crab at?! Must have walked off my plate! -

After reading the other Yelper's reviews, I guess I'm one of the very few who actually enjoyed my experience here. My coworkers frequently get lunch here and I was so intrigued because every week, there's always someone who gets something from Hub. They finally decided to take me there and I quite liked it.
We decided to sit out in the patio because it was a really nice day. Our server was quick but she didn't seem that friendly. She didn't smile but she was really helpful. Despite this, I loved the atmosphere of this place. It's a great place to have drinks with friends and socialize or watch the game.
Around the table, we had the crab grilled cheese, linguine carbonara, crispy chicken club (which is their version of a BLT sandwich), and a yankee burger.
The crab grilled cheese was actually really good. Both the gruyere and the cheddar was really yummy. I really loved the crab. I think it went well with the sandwich and added some weight to the sandwich. The bread was toasted really nicely, although it was quite greasy (probably from the butter used to toast/brown it). I absolutely love the vodka cocktail sauce that came with it, it's a great dip for the yam fries (which were also amazing). The chipotle mayo was great but I preferred the vodka sauce.
The linguine carbonara was really tasty, although it sort of reminded of me of other carbonara dishes from other restaurants. But compared to other restaurants, this dish had just the right amount of sauce. The pasta was nice and al dente. The peas add a nice color and the bacon was a definite plus for me. I really liked it.
The crispy chicken club is their version of a BLT sandwich, which I would say is an amped up version of a BLT. The chicken was really moist and the bacon is nice and crispy. Of course the chipotle mayo added a nice kick . Also loved this dish.
The Yankee burger is a favorite of one of my coworkers, she always gets it and she did so on this occasion as well. The patty is so moist and the cheese is so gooey. The side salad is also quite delicious; we didn't eat it with forks - we literally were picking at it and savoring each piece of lettuce or cheese with each bite. Loved it!
Would I come back? YUP. I had an amazing lunch and I would definitely recommend it to my friends the next time we're in the area. -

Located in throwing distance to the Yaletown Canada Line stop it is easy to get. Their patio is nice on a sunny afternoon. They have heaters and blankets for colder days.
Service was friendly and not too bad. The food was blah. The classic eggs and bacon was mediocre. The the bacon was overly crispy/ deep fried, the eggs overly greasy and the hash browns tasted like they were cooked sometime much earlier in the morning. It was forgettable meal.
If you are in a hurry maybe not the place to go as it took 25 mins for the meal to arrive. I think there are better options around for brunch. If you need somewhere to have some drinks on a sunny afternoon it might not be a bad option. -
Review from Steve H.
I literally stumbled upon The Hub while attempting to find a quick place to eat Sunday morning before getting back on the road to Seattle. What appealed to my group was the outdoor breakfast seating on a warm 77 degree sunny Sunday.
The menu for brunch was fantastic and I had an awesome shrimp and crab eggs benedict. I can't speak to the rest of their day, but brunch was phenomenal.
The personnel that was working that morning were engaging and friendly. The customer base surrounding myself were also in the same category. If I am in Vancouver again in the near future, brunch at The Hub is certainly a viable option for me. -

Stopped in here for a lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Was hoping to find a nice patio spot somewhere in Yaletown and I had heard of Hub so we took one of the last patio tables available (the restaurant itself was almost empty).
Service was quite friendly, pleasant and attentive enough. They have a nice patio, seemed like the restaurant could have a nice casual atmosphere.
The food, however, spoiled the experience a bit -- and I think that's pretty important. Although I admit I did not taste multiple items off the menu, neither of us thought are dishes were that fantastic. My friend ordered the BBQ chicken pizza to which she stated it was "alright." I ordered the Kobe Meatball Linguine. It was also pretty underwhelming. The marinara tasted like anything I could have bought at a store and the kobe meatballs themselves were not that fantastic. Tasted like a very average, typical bowl of pasta.
If I could have, I would have likely given it 2.5/5 but that option isn't available. It was, again, a pretty average experience. However, I would likely give it one more shot some time. -

Stopped in here for a small birthday party. They were running some drink specials and that was a good thing.
We ordered the hot wings and they were pretty good. I ordered the steak frites - and the steak was very good, and perfectly cooked. The fires were decent.
My SO ordered the Crab Mac & Chesse - and I think the word Crab should be last in that name - there really wasnt much of it. The Mac & Cheese was pretty ordinary - to be honest not very good.
The service was friendly and attentive and a good time was had by all. All in all a good little watering hole. -

Had lunch on the patio with a friend. Our first impression was the rude hostess who just stared at both of us who came in separately. I actually didn't even think she worked there since she was just leaning against the wall!
But the food totally saved it, we had the bruschetta, halibut burger, and veggie burger. Everything was awesome, our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. There were so many things that were jumping out at us to try that we'll have to make a second trip there. We were given the option to leave our email address and they will send us a complimentary appy which is great!
Hostess gave us a monotone, insincere "have a good day" on the way out of course haha -

MAC N Cheese with CRAB!!! That's all I really gotta say about this place.
I loved it.
I know. comfort food is bad for the waistline and bad bad bad for diabetics, but MAC N CHEESE.....with CRAB!!!!
C'mon!!
Drinks were average, Service was good, it was a busy hopping place and great for the 30'ish crowd (of which I'm older ;( )
Was here for a Birthday party and...yes. there was one other item I relished. It was the Calamari. Bit salty, but very flavourfull. -

Avoid.
Rude service. mediocre food, "simple" minded waitstaff who don't get it.
I went in and literally had two of the bartenders, a goofy-steroided 21 y/o kid and a blonde gal in her mid 20's wishing she wasn't past her time, were just flirting with each other trying to ignore anyone who might have, say come in for dinner.
The wine was nice. The calamari was gross. The waitresses were pathetic.
Just avoid. There's always somewhere better in Yaletown, I'd step over to Yaletown Brewery, Earls, Section 3, or up to Milestones, but this spot simply is not it. You'll be laughed at for bringing a girl or business clients here (worse yet, you won't get the deal, in either case). -
Review from Andrea C.
I damn near broke my ankle trying to get in here.
These effing cobblestone-y roads.
I was trying to go down the stairs to kill some time before 4pm, when appies go down to $6 each, and I completely ate it on the sidewalk.
So, at 4, I hobbled in, with my best friend who was not amused by my whiny attempts at getting her to carry me.
Alas, the best way to fix a rolled ankle (which still hurts like a bitch) is to get a mango mojito an split some poutine with a childhood friend.
So, being a California native, I have never actually seen poutine in real life. It's basically awesome. It was fat fries with cheese, gravy and (drumroll) BACON. Oh, it was lovely. Effing lovely.
Good food, good cocktails, but slow service. My advice? Step it up. It was slow. Be on your game. -

Three words: SIX. DOLLAR. APPIES.
Well, between 4-6. Which is as good a time as any to get your snack on. My friends and I hopped on over for some early eats and went with the lobster wings, nachos, bruschetta, and some asian seafood (sorry, horrible memory.) They also had $2 off margaritas so, you know, might as well.
The food was yummy but came in pretty small portions that, if they were not $6 each, I wouldn't regularly order them. For example, the lobster wings were 4 small pieces that were delicious but, if they were at a regular price of $12, would be too much for my student budget. Drinks were also OK - my friends mentioned that they never seem to ID, and they do look like youngin's. I, on the other hand, having just recently turned 19 was excited to be asked for ID. Hah, that hope came to no avail.
But back on topic, I'd definitely eat at the Hub if I wasn't too hungry and was around between 4 and 6 PM, but when it comes to paying full price for food (yeah, I sneaked a peek at the rest of the menu) things come up too far on the pricey end for me to want to even try. -

I'm loving a covered patio with blankets and heat lamps ! yeah!
What our group had:
Caesar Salad, Chicken Wings with the perfect heat in the sauce, yummy burger that got a good head nod, Yam Fries, and even a breakfast burrito, served all day that made the big guy so very happy (for only 10 bucks), served with home made crispy French Fries, and NOT the frozen kind, fresh ones.
The servers were friendly and professional and the place wasn't even crowded! Why, where IS everyone?
Get over there!
This is a large place, great for large groups, with more than a dozen flat screen TV's. They're getting ready for FIFA's World Cup soccer in June. It's going to be madness and mayhem again! :-)
GO BRAZIL!
This bar/resto is in what I view as the coolest part of Yaletown, on Mainland st. where I always feel like I'm on vacation. The old architecture and narrow lanes are a great backdrop for any meal. -

I went there for two reason: exploring Yaletown's pub, restaurant and lounges, and because of the name as I have been using "Hub" for over 14 years on the Internet.
We showed up around 4:30PM for an early supper on a Saturday, and there was not a lot of patrons ; it was a few days after the re-opening under this new name.
$4 for the pint special, that was a good start. They have daily specials all week, as well as a wide variety of drinks. The bacon and cheese burger with fries was good, server on a stylish modern plate, and real napkins.
Hockey fans could enjoy the NHL game on the flat screens.
I'll definitely return.
Update (Feb 14, 2010): I went there yesterday and they did what I call the Olympic gouging: new menu where the only difference is the price (more expensive), and 18% gratuity applied by default. Having been there numerous time I feel robbed, and I think they lost a regular. Dropping the rating to 3*** from 4****.Listed in: Reviewed

We found "The Hub" after exploring Yaletown's eats and treats. Apparently they had just re-opened, after splitting from Brown's.
The menu is "ever-evolving", and - according to our waitress - one of the reasons the owners sought independence from Brown's.
I am not familiar with the previous menu; however, the "current" menu could use some refinement, with respect to its content and preparation. To be fair, the owners are (still) experimenting with how certain dishes are prepared, and welcome feedback.
We have returned to sample menu items for brunch, lunch, supper, and dessert - pleasantly surprised by the Breakfast Burrito, the Halibut and Chips, the Crispy Chicken Club, the (Hub) Classic Burger, and the Chocolate Chip Pazookie.
The restaurant itself is clean, casual and relaxed, while still maintaining that sophisticated, authentic Yaletown vibe. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive.
The owners are (still) working out the kinks in the menu, but after being under the dictatorship of Brown's for so long, there are bound to be some growing pains as they assert their independence! :)
* UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE*
The Hub Restaurant and Lounge is currently participating in the Olympic Gouge... jacking its prices, eliminating its specials, and applying a 18% gratuity to all bills during the Olympics.
For this reason, I am lowering my star rating... if I could check NO STARS, I would.
Should someone from the Hub Restaurant and Lounge come by and read this review, please be advised that alienating your local customers will only hurt you in the long run... -

Attempted to eat here for the first time at brunch; key word "Attempted"
It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Gordon Ramsey and crew filming here; I believe beyond a kitchen fire this may be the only solution to fix this place. -

I really like Hub. We have been here 3 times now from the summer-this last weekend and have found it to be consistently well done. It's simple food to go out for when you don't want to cook. It has a nice friendly vibe and it's a great place to meet friends, in my opinion. The prime rib deal Sundays and Mondays is a pretty darn good deal too. Salad, giant slab of meat, veg, potatoes and an honourable Yorkshire pudding + Dessert for two is $40. That aint bad for Yaletown. The dessert was a little too sweet, like could have induced and insulin coma sweet, but hey that's dessert for you. You know what, don't bring a date or a client, but just go to eat. It's good!

Friend and I stumbled across this place while looking for a patio lunch spot the other day - it was pretty quiet when we arrived seeing it was in the middle of the afternoon. We sat on the patio outside with great high chairs and spacious table - it was definitely a prime spot to enjoy Vancouver's Summer weather and I can imagine it to be a great social spot at night to watch the people on the street and take in the fresh air. Blankets were also ready on the chairs to combat any cold weather. Inside was a spacious typical bar area - dark and dimmed, giving off a more intimate setting.
While the spot is great, the menu offering is quite average. But don't let this fool you. the food, while not mind-blowing is actually quite good. What's not good however, is the price. It is definitely pricey for what you get even for Yaletown standard. We both had the make your own salad for $10.99 - a bit more if you add meat - but was very satisfied. it was definitely one of the best salads I've had for a while. Fresh, tasty and a good serving amount. We also had a couple of appetizers - which was also tasty - especially the wings. They had a good selection of beers and their specials were reasonably priced.
It was a very relaxing lunch spot, although i'm assuming it can be quite buzzing at night. All in all it was pleasant space with pleasant food but pricey price - worth a visit if you're around the area but I wouldn't be chasing after it. -

Hub has recently split off from Browns. Working in Yaletown I'm always quite interested in trying new places. Apparently the owners have split from the Browns franchise to get more control of the menu, at least according to a waitress I spoke with. Browns must be the most revolting of the higher end chains in Vancouver, so presumably this is a good move, no?
Well, apparently not. I had a burger a caesar salad. A staple that any restaurant worth their salt would need to do well. The caesar salad tasted as if it was sitting in the refrigerator for days and the burger had an altogether disturbing gamey flavour to the beef. The bun was all wrong, selected by someone who likely couldn't tell Wonder Bread from a baguette.
I couldn't even finish the meal, a very rare event for me. Kill it with fire, I say. -

I have only had great experiences here - they have amazing prime rib dinners on Sundays & Mondays, they have happy hour appy specials (the best deal is on the super delicious lobster wings), great drink menu, awesome food and the best dessert ever - their chocolate chip pazookie- I wasn't crazy about their brunch menu so I'll probably stick to dinners there but I've proudly taken 4 different groups of friends and family there and everyone has enjoyed it. It's one of my favourite yaletown spots

Decent food. Server a little slow and she kept messing up the drinks that my guests ordered, but to be fair, they were very nitpicky and specific. Tasty salads and great burger and yam fries. French toast not very good so my friend says, so just stay away from that I suppose.

All in all I had a great time - friendly staff. My friend had to burger - and said it was excellent.
