Beautiful building with a giant art exhibit swinging above your head. The atrium area is very large and airy and allows direct access to the HSBC branch inside and the ATMs in the corner. Great stop if you want to get out of the rain.

What a lobby for a bank! And the pendulum is quite a centrepiece.
Always liked meeting up w/ friends who are stuck working in a DT office, so we meet in the lobby w/ the coffee shop on ground level but it's got a way better, airy view of the eye candy walking by during a busy work day. Definitely helps that it's floor to ceiling glass all the way around.
And they've done a nice job renovating, so the bad part is, for retail banking, it's now downstairs maybe for a few years or so (I don't bank here) but did notice that their more lucrative, Premiere Banking, is now on the ground level, guess to make those millionaire net worths easier to deposit their $$$ ;)
definitely one of the higher-end ambience for a bank! -

As far as office buildings with character go, the Hsbc building does a damn fine job (surpassed only by the Marine Building). The giant swing pendulum, called a "kinetic sculpture", amazes that it comes so close to connecting the base and free-swing column with every swoop.
The Pendulum Gallery below its swinging namesake regularly welcomes new exhibitions every three weeks or so. With a neighboring café, art to admire, and a whooshing pendulum overhead, I'd rather visit here (for free!) than go to the Vancouver Art Gallery across Georgia Street. -

Other than the fact that it houses numerous offices and is home to a bank and lovely ground-floor café, I don't know that much about this space. I used to come in here often when my mom used to work in the building but what mainly drew me in was the large pendulum swinging from the ceiling. Intimidating, majestic, it would pass overhead, daring you to stand beneath it.
The ground floor is often bustling with activity. People coming and going, speaking forcefully on their mobiles. Throughout the year, the main floor also serves as the site for a photo exhibition. -

I liked the pendulum, however I came here mainly because it was a very short walk from the City Centre Canada Line station and I could get some cash out from my HSBC account. As an international traveler with an HSBC account my cash is given to me at the exact exchange rate. Which rocks - thanks for leaving out any dumb fees HSBC.
