This review is only for the Pub side.  How Sound Brewing Co is known for their beer but I will start with the food and service.

The food here is excellent!  I had a Burger and my sister had the Bacon wrapped Meatloaf both were excellent and the portions were great as we were both stuffed!   The server was very attentive and made sure that we had the drinks and food that we needed for out dinner.

The beer is where they really shine here though it overshadows everything else!  Depending on your taste of beer you will not try a bad beer here.  I would go as far as to say you would not even have a decent beer here.  I am a big fan of Wheat Beers and Hefeweizen beers so I got the "King Heffy Iperial Hefeweizen" it was amazing it tastes like most hefeweizens with a hint of banana.  It was a really interesting taste!

Another great thing about this pub is that they have 1L bottles of all their brews on sale!  Its $7.5 per bottle for most and $8.5 for some or you can do a 6 pack for $45 dollars (who doesn't need 6L of beer?).  My sister and I spit a 6 pack as we both needed to take some of this beer home to enjoy later!

All in all this is a great place to stop in after enjoying the great outdoors especially if you are driving back to Metro Vancouver!

Howe Sound Brewing Co.: Awesome beer, okay food, poor service.

Disclaimer: This review applies only to the pub, not the inn.

I'll keep this brief because I can already see myself ranting about this place.

    Here goes:

I shouldn't have to wait 15-20 minutes (after seating myself) to receive service in a pub - especially after I know for a fact that the server saw me. I understand that there were larger parties around, but the least I could've received was acknowledgement and a menu

It would also be nice to have a server return and take food/drink orders. Having delivered the meal, it would also be nice to have someone check up on us. In addition, it would be nice not to receive a cold shoulder or be required to flag down a server whenever I assume they had seen me with their peripheral vision.

If it wasn't for Howe Sound Brewery's awesome beer and okay food, this place would tank in ratings. I've been here thrice and I haven't felt as offended as I was tonight because of one server. I contemplated name dropping, but I've since decided to refrain from doing so.

    Smarten up.

As far as food goes: Try their pizzas, the clam chowder is a 'must-have', and avoid the fish and chips at all costs.

This is a big space and I sure do love their beers. We went to the brew pub side and there was a weird smell so we moved over to the Firebread which was cozier. In fact there was a nice wood burning fire going.

The servers were friendly but service was pretty slow considering they weren't that busy. I had the omelette with mushrooms and cheddar. It came with a couple of slices of bacon, hash browns and thick pieces of toast. For $12 it was filling but nothing out of the ordinary. My Bloody Caesar was standard and decent.

The view of The Chief is spectacular and this would be a good place for a casual large group get together.

I've stayed at the Howe Sound Inn on two occasions and I'm a big fan. The rooms are cute and clean, and everything I've eaten in both the pub and the restaurant has been delicious (the cheddar and ale soup is a must have). I love the lodge feel of the brewpub, with the over sized armchairs by the roaring fire and the view of the snow-capped mountains.

We've felt very welcomed by the brew master Paul on both of our visits - we've even had a tour of the brewery which was a highlight of the trip! And of course, you cannot beat the variety of the beers on tap - they're all amazing, there's something for everyone.

Our first trip was over New Years, so I expected the brewpub to be quite busy that weekend, but even the second time we visited (in November of this year) had a great party atmosphere on Saturday night.

I will be back to stay in this inn and enjoy the brewpub, absolutely!

There aren't many things I expect when I dine out. Just take down my order, bring out the food, check on our table once or twice to see how everything is. It's really the bare minimum and if you can manage that, you've earned yourself a good tip and a smile from me. I understand this place isn't uber service-oriented and it's mainly for casual beers on the patio. But it's one thing to provide a laid-back atmosphere and another to not have any kind of service. Our server disappeared after dropping off our menu.. 20 minutes later, she came by to take our drink order. Just water thanks. Then a party of 10 young kids who obviously were there to drink came in. She promptly sat them down, took down their drink order and brought them all out! THEN she came back to drop off the water at our 4 people table. Awesome start.

It took another 40 minutes for the food to come out in this empty restaurant. I ordered the fish and chips and it was really not happening. Super greasy, poor presentation, skimpy chips, and bone in my cod. I had to literally get up from my table and chase my server to order a drink. Sure, their beer was delicious but the service and food was a one star experience. I'd say the chances of me returning here is pretty slim.

This review is for the Firebread side of the establishment. I'm not sure if Firebread deserves it's own yelp site or not. I'm half tempted to create one, but maybe an elite member wants to make that call. In any case this place has an Inn, a Brewery, and a Restaurant. Take a look at their homepage for more details.

You'll find this place at the end of a downtowny area in Squamish. I'll be honest on a Friday night the town seemed pretty desolate, until you see this cute place on the right side of the road lit up. You'll know it when you see it.

When you walk in there's a front desk, an entrance to a pub on the left, and a restaurant on the right. The restaurant, known as Firebread (you'll see a big sign). If you're looking for beer and pizza look no further. My wife and I shared a decent size pizza which was about $15.

The ambiance was very lodge swank. Old jazz and blues playing in he background. A cozy fire was going (this was in the late fall). You walk in and see a pizza oven and taps. Heavy tables and chairs. A leather couch in front of the fire. Ample seating throughout. When we went in the place was fairly empty, especially in contrast to the adjoining pub . The staff was friendly, but not overly so, and the Canucks were playing behind the bar.

i had their seasonal ale, pumpkineater. I've had my share of pumpkin ales, and I'll be honest I've never had a pumpkin ale I didn't like. This was no exception. Amazing beer: check. We then ordered the brewers pizza. Duck sausage was too exotic not to try. These are hand made. No perfectly round pies. Also these are flatbread style (my favorite kind). If you go in here expecting puffy style crust steer clear. Interestingly enough, the beer paired perfectly with the pizza. It was as if there was some wizard in he kitchen who had hand crafted the perfect ingredients to pair together. The pizza was amazing. You'll see from my reviews, I love pizza. I've had good, bad, the best. This pizza is exceptional alone for being in Squamish, or even in a big city. The price for what you get is pretty incredible too.

We finished off the meal with an apple pie which comes with "beerscream". I believe this was pumpkineater ice cream. They have other desserts in this vein. Beeramisu, a chocolate cheesecake (which they were out of at the time). The apple pie was a mini pie with a scoop of ice cream. Heavenly.

In the end, the meal went perfectly. The Canucks beat the Coyotes. There's nothing more I could have asked for. A must visit for sure. I look forward to coming back.

I'd return for the location alone.

    The food was *okay*
I ordered a spinach salad with chicken breast on top because of my gluten & dairy free limitations- and the chicken was over-cooked! When your diet is limited, you kind of hope for the best in the simplest things. But if they over-cook a chicken breast, what does this say for their quality of cooking skills? Aside from this, they didn't bother to dress the spinach in any way that my palate would appreciate, so the message is; Because you can't eat our burgers, this is what you get.
However, others at the table were impressed with the Nachos and burgers of all sorts and really liked the beers. I'd like to add that since so many people are gluten free now and there are a variety of gf beers out there, would it kill them to stock a few? It was torturous to watch everyone else enjoying their pitchers and nachos while I waited for my over-cooked chicken breast. The fries were good to munch while I waited though.

We were a table of 9 that showed up after our snowshoeing adventure, clueless to the fact that a Canucks game was on --and we were seated! Amazing. The service was helpful and friendly and food came out in a timely manner.

Awesome, reality-checking view! The Chief is mind-blowing in his enormity and even in the late afternoon light, WHO could focus on the game with that giant rock face staring back at them? Not me, but I'm glad Vancouver won.

We went for breakfast and the food was very good and the waitstaff super friendly and nice. Problems arose, however, when the manager (who must be suffering from a mental illness) psychotically  burst out of her office while the waitress was trying to take our order and accused us of trying to repeatedly order alcohol after being told it was unavailable due to liquor license restrictions.  We had literally just walked in the door. When we tried to reason with her that she was mistaken, she insisted that she was right, refused to listen, and walked away.  Totally weird!

I suspect this place varies in terms of ambiance -- that is, it'll be quite different if you're there for lunch or an early dinner, as we were, compared to a late night drink when there's live music or a game on, but my bet is that no matter what you're looking for, the restaurant is home for a lot of people. The pub area is a bit dark, but the high ceiling and big windows looking out towards the sound & the Chief make up for that, as does the friendly atmosphere.

We stayed in Squamish for close to a week and went here after a long day of hiking in the mountains....actually, we went two days in row, we liked the place so much.

As far as first impressions go, you can't go wrong with a half-price pizza special and a deal on the exact beer I wanted. For a starter, my boyfriend and I shared a margherita pizza (fresh mozzarella, basil, and roasted tomatoes), and we were blown away with how good it was. The ingredients were clearly very fresh, and the pizza dough was divine.  (I actually talked to the chef when we left and guessed the secret ingredient:  freshly brewed beer.) My dinner was incredible too -- the wild sockeye salmon burger and salad rocked.

The Howe Sound pub should be a "don't miss" stop for anyone passing through or visiting Squamish. Given the massive collection of personalized beer steins hanging from above the bar, I gather that if you live in Squamish, you quickly become a regular here.

After my buddy and I finished our hike up on Stawamus Chief, he suggested we head to the brewery to gain back the calories we had lost. Mondays were half-price pizza days so we had two 12" pizzas for the price of one. They were a bit too greasy for my liking but hit the spot in terms of filling up our tummies. I tried the King Heffy Hefeweizen which I thought was fantastic - the perfect beer to finish off a summer hike. Service was a bit lacklustre as we needed to ask for things such as plates and napkins [c'mon, we're eating PIZZA] after our food was delivered.

But considering that there isn't much other selection in terms of dining in Squamish, I wouldn't be against coming back next time I'm in town!

While visiting Squamish, my boyfriend and I visited the Howe Sound Brewing Company, because we had an Entertainment book coupon for $15 off.  It was a little confusing, because it is also an Inn with a restaurant and the brew pub.  We wanted the brew pub obviously!

My boyfriend had pint of their lager which was on special, and I had a white sangria.  Both were great!  We shared the artichoke dip, which had really nice, crisp flat bread slices served with it.  My boyfriend couldn't get enough of it. We then each had an order of the fish and chips with a side of gravy.  The fries and fish were delicious, but the gravy was a chicken based gravy, kinda like turkey gravy, but we both prefer a beef or brown gravy with fries.  With the coupon our bill came to $52.

The only draw back I found as a visitor to Squamish, was that the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company is located way down at the end of Cleveland St., and we were staying at a hotel at the other end of town, which meant our cab cost $20 each way.  Obviously when you're planning on drinking you don't want to be driving, but the cab fare for the night was almost as much as the dinner!  Maybe that's why they have the inn! ;)

I hadn't done a lot of Yelp research prior to our BC vacation, but I did bookmark Howe Brewing as a potential dinner place since it had more reviews than any other place in Squamish.  The place was pretty packed when we showed up as the Canucks game was just starting (they have a huge projection screen on the back wall).  We didn't have any problems with service like some of the other reviewers mentioned.  At times it was a little delayed, but they were pretty busy so it was understandable.

My boyfriend ordered a chicken sandwich and I had the veggie quesadilla, which was pretty impressive for pub food.  Instead of just cramming it full of greasy cheese and tossing in a few tiny vegetable chunks like most places, Howe used a huge amount of peppers and mushrooms and went light on the cheese.

I think I'd come here again just for the atmosphere of the place, although next time I'd probably try one of their pizzas or burgers.

This is a great place to watch a hockey game. It has a nice vibe and the food is good.

Coming from the US, it was odd not to be able to order a medium-rare burger. They use local grass-fed pemberton beef, but only cook well done. It was the best well-done burger I've ever had.

Even beers I normally don't like, I liked here!
This place was great!  When we arrived we got a Private tour by one of the brewmaster's, Franco. He was great, showed us everything and when the tour was over he recommended a few other breweries we would like.

For food we got the Whitecap wheat ale mustard Beer braised wings-- They were really really good. Maybe a bit expensive $13 for 10 wings. They have half price pizza on Monday's: We got the pulled pork the BBQ pizza.  The BBQ was sweet the crust was crunchy and the walnuts made it more crunchy but more dense. The caramelized onions and pork added a savoriness to it. Very delicious.

    On to the beer!

$25 for 11 tasters (They give you a taster of all the beers they have on tap at that point in time), Not a bad deal! Here's what I thought:

Lager: Nutty, surprisingly good, I don't like lager but it's good. -- I'd drink it again

Garibaldi honey pale ale: okay. I wound drink it if a friend ordered a pitcher. --- but wouldn't order a pint

Rockfish red ale: okay, a bit bitter, but more malty. ---wouldn't order again

Three beavers imperial red ale: sweeter than the rockfish -- I would order this again.

High-tide Hemp ale: not really a fan, definitely has a red flavor. ---wouldnt order again

Total eclipse of the hop imperial ipa: Mmmmm sweet, strong, and really bitter. Super hoppy, refreshing, nice color. 90IBUs But I'm a hop-head.
Also tried it on cask: much more smooth... But not as bitter..Mmmmm it is so so damn good. I would definitely order again, actually bought a bottle to take home.

Devils elbow IPA: aroma is fruity, flowery bit on tasting isn't as bitter as i would have liked, 68IBU explains it. But still really really good. --- I would order it again, but only if they were out of the total eclipse ;)

Baldwin & copper best bitter: okay. Too malty for my liking--- wouldn't order again

Rail ale nut brown: smells of coffee almost, Very good-- I would order again

Pothole filler stout: tastes like BBQ, would be great with a burger,a steak or  Braut. Almost smokey.

Diamond head stout: general stout, not amazing but I do love stout so I would order it again.

Oh and even though I wouldn't order them again I DID like every single beer I tasted. This place is a must if you are on your way to Whistler or are up for a beautiful drive from Vancouver. I am definitely going to be back!

This was by far my most favorite place I visited in Canada.

For starters- they gave us a tour of the brewery, and it was the most impromptu thing ever. So informal, but good :)

Then, we (of course) and to go sit at the bar and drink some beers they make! The bartender (Stan I believe? Anyways, he's awesome) hooked us up with the infamous 12 beer sampler (we actually got 13, baker's dozen I suppose)

Barleywine, Licorice Stout, Pumpkin, Winter, Bumbleberry... dear god should I keep going?!

Everything was amazing, and I HATE IPA's, and I drank their IPA's, now that says something. (Now I just need to somehow get kegs back in Seattle...)

So between sampler #5 and 7ish, we decided we should stuff our mouths with food.We got the pulled pork pizza and some yam fries.

This was possible one of the top ten best decisions of my life.

That pizza is life-altering. Do you feel like you're lost in life and need some direction? Go head over to Howe Sound and take a seat next to Stan and get the sampler tray and the pork pizza, you will find your way in no time.

A note, first: if we had received consistently good service, Howe Sound would easily have gotten four stars. The beer is incredible - five stars for the selection and quality of brews. The food was okay - I had a bad experience because of vegan friendliness but everything our companions received was well prepared and tasty. The service was awful, at times, and okay at other times.

    The good first:

The rooms we stayed in were really cute. Definitely a good deal for the price. They had little daybeds in the window, which was a nice touch. We had a good time at the new year's party and were taken on a brewery tour by Paul, which was a highlight of the weekend for all of us. We were treated to a sample of the extremely limited production Megadestroyer beer, which we'd all been really excited about leading up to the trip. It was incredible!

    Now for the rest:

I visited Howe Sound Inn & Brewing Company for three days, two nights with a group of friends. We went to stay over the New Year's Eve holiday weekend. We booked about three weeks in advance and made sure to ask both online and on the phone whether it was possible to alter some menu items so that myself and my partner (vegans) could eat. They said yes, unequivocally, no problem, for sure.

Unfortunately, the story wasn't the same once we arrived. Our server at the pub absolutely could not fathom how it was possible to replace mayo and cheese on the veggie burger with, for example, the eggplant dip we'd received with the trio of dips appetizer. We ended up having to order the burger dry and then pay extra for the eggplant dip. She also didn't fill up our water once, though we were there for an hour or so eating. Overall we got the feeling that she didn't want to serve us at all.

Breakfast the next day was better - we ate at the North Beach restaurant, and our server there was a little bit more flexible and willing to help us out. Unfortunately, all of the rest of the orders got screwed up, though our vegan breakfasts came out fine.

We also got the cold shoulder from the front desk staff. She treated us as if we were accusing her of some wrongdoing when really we just wanted the keys and food vouchers we had paid for.

We also ate at another restaurant in Squamish and got fairly rude service as well, as if she didn't want us to be in there at all. Maybe it's a Squamish thing - they're tired of tourists?

Overall, I would visit the brew pub again for beer, but probably wouldn't eat there again. I might stay in the hotel if I were looking for a place to stay in Squamish because it was in good condition, clean, cute, and affordable, but the service was pretty atrocious.

A great place to stop on your way back from enjoying the outdoors.  This review is for the pub side of the establishment.

The service is super friendly and helpful, and the food is quite good.  The beer is cold and delicious, with a selection that will suit any taste bud.

My wild mushroom pizza was so good, and after I asked what kind of mushrooms were on it, the very nice server went and found out there were 7 plus different kinds, including chanterelles and morels.  Fancy!  Definitely a must for any fungi lover.  Though my friend's mac n' cheese looked a little underwhelming, and was not a gooey cheese heaven as we had expected.  It was good, and made with penne noodles rather than macaroni, but not what I would want when craving a mac n' cheese.  Only complaint though.  Otherwise, this place is awesome. (4 and a half stars, really, but i'll be kind and offer 5).

The patio is super lovely, and has nice shrubs around the side which offer a dappling of shade, and a better view than the industrial area of town.  The inside is spacious and has a cabin kind of feel.  The bathrooms in the lobby are nice and clean.

Did I really accept the challenge of their beer sampler? At $17.99 it seemed like a deal, and it was. Only problem, I'm a lightweight -- actually, I might go by the nickname "half pint" in some circles. But I just couldn't refuse the tray of brews, lined up from wheat to stout when it arrived.

Luckily they also have a pretty good menu. Burger and salad/fries was the perfect accompaniment to my liquid lunch. Next time I might just splurge for the yam fries ($2 more) and a caesar salad, they looked delish as they were brought out to the table next to mine. Our server was friendly, and ladies, he was cute!

I think it goes without saying that I was passed out right fast for the whole car ride home.

So many servers, so little service.

Overall I do actually quite enjoy this place, but I always find that the service is both spotty and slow much of the time. We had two servers helping us out while we were there, but it didn't seem like either of them realized that they were both helping us. And despite this, we didn't really see much of either of them.

On the plus side though, the food is quite good, the microbrews many and excellent (if you can, try the sampler - it's awesome and quite hilarious though I recommend sharing it with friends. The again, I'm a total lightweight when it comes to beer) and the location and ambiance super fantastic. Highly recommended for hungry bellies post-Chief as long as you're not in any sort of hurry.

Howe Sound Inn & Brewing Company is the perfect stop after hiking the Chief (you know, to gain all those calories you sweated out while walking straight up for God knows how long).

What a gem! The place has a comfortable and rustic feel to with natural woods and plenty of space to relax indoors, by the bar or out on the patio with a fantastic view of the mountains. They have tons of their own micro brews on tap to suit any taste you have for a nice cold one. I personally enjoyed their stout.

I think the food here is incredible. Everything we shared here was fantastic. I started with a greens salad that was refreshingly simple, yet with complex flavours and a Chicken Lime pizza that I was able to only overcome half and tucked the rest away in my fridge for awesome leftovers. I would love to stay here sometime - the lobby has unique gifts and robes one can purchase from the spa. The place smells of lavender when you come in. It's a must-see, must-stop at place if you're in Squamish.

How can you go wrong with a taster tray of 12 different beers?
Well... a designated driver is a pretty good idea for starters.

Or, wait a sec, there's Inn in the name for a reason. Not sure what the rooms are like here, but I can imagine after a couple trays they would look pretty inviting.

It was fun to try every beer at the bar, especially the cask special. The Brew Burger was quite edible too. Definitely a must stop when passin through Squamps.

You know service is slooooooow when I have time to write a Yelp review, on my iPhone, while waiting, waiting for the server to pick up my credit card (15 min and counting).

The Hangdog Hefeweizen beer was amazing.  I loved the banana and clove aroma, though still think Wells' Banana Bread beer is the best when it comes to banana-involved beer.  The seafood chowder was hearty and delicious.  A big bowl full of halibut, salmon, bay shrimp, clams and other good stuff.

Unfortunately the service is sloooow.  It took forever to get menus, order, get the check, etc.  The server alternated between being nice and being obnoxious.  She rudely told us they didn't have any Pumpkineater Ale by pointing at a chalkboard 30 feet away and saying "It's not listed on our chalkboard right now."  (Sorry, lady, it was on the beer list you threw at us! We didn't know!)

I'd love to try their other beers but think i will be getting them elsewhere.

The perfect refueling stop on the way to/from Whistler or after a long day playing in Squamish.

The food is fresh and tasty pub fare with a twist. The veggie burger is probably one of the best ones going with lots of texture and great flavour.

The room is all rough-hewn wood, high ceilings and plenty of flatscreens, for those looking to catch the hockey/soccer/football/rugby/darts game (seriously, all of these have been playing at various times over my several trips there).

Let's get down to brass tacks though - the real reason to stop by is for a cold, refreshing and rejuvenating pint! They typically have a half-dozen on selection, from their award-winning Garabaldi Honey Pale Ale, to the Bailout Bitter (this got picked up on almost every major news wire, about a year ago), to one of their seasonal creations (Blueberry Heffeweizen anyone?!?). Any way you pour it, its all good!

On your way out, stop bye the Big Orange Fridge and grab one of their huge re-sealable bottles for the (end of the) road. As a bonus, you can now find these at local liquor stores around the province.

    Cheers!

What hasn't been said already? Dinner and a beer here is part of every trip to Squamish for me. The Devil's Elbow IPA is one of the best IPAs anywhere (and now another one called 'Total Eclipse of the Hop'..awesome).

And the FOOD. Is that fresh shaved parmesan in my Cesar salad? And..basil? We asked for the bacon bits on the side, and received two strips of actual bacon.. imagine that. It's just all the little high-quality things like that, that add up to an outstanding pub/restaurant.

While my claim of Best Veggie Burger and Yam Fries in-the-world was verified by my vegetarian companion. I myself felt the need for some protein after a long hike, and went with the Brewpub Burger. Faantastic.  We ate like royalty, then flopped back on the couch to watch the 3rd period.

I could live at this place. Anyone travelling to BC wanting a true West Coast feel should definitely go here!

Visited here on the way to Whistler--pub was too packed so ate and drank beer in the dining room. I was a bit put off by the formality of the dining room area but the waitress gave us the pub menu so we were able to dumb it down a bit. I am generally not a fan of the mixed model breweries (i.e. mixing dining with brewing with innkeeping) because it's hard to do beer right when your attention is spread thin--but these guys seem to pull it off. The Hop Rising double IPA is big, malty, bitter and high gravity. I also really enjoyed their King Heffy (imperial Hefeweizen?) which was a new style to me but very impressed.  We left with a few of their huge bomber bottles with re-sealable tops, which is pretty cool.

Overall I would say that this is a must-stop for Squamish although I would avoid it at lunch because if you drink some of their big beers at lunch you won't get anything done the rest of the day!

A friend recommended we stop here for brunch on the way back from camping in Squamish. The pub side wasn't open yet, so we went for brunch in the Restaurant/Lounge. I ordered the Classic Eggs Benny, a Poutine, and a Caesar. The Caesar was the BEST Caesar I have ever had!!!!!! I couldn't stop at one! Deep, rich flavour with a nice kick of spice, I was in heaven! I loved the Caesars, but what I didn't love was the Poutine. The Fries were thick and crispy, but there wasn't enough Gravy or Cheese Curds(if you can call them that). I don't think more gravy would have made a difference as it was tasteless and bland! The weird thing was that it came with a side of Ketchup. WTF?! Ketchup?! Definitely not worth the $9. Overall, I enjoyed my Classic Eggs Benny. Sure the English Muffin could have been bit softer and the Hollandaise Sauce could have been a bit more rich and flavourful, but the side of Potatoes were good and there was a refreshing side of Watermelon and Pineapple Salsa. I'll definitely be back for the Caesars, but I think I'll pass on the brunch and order lunch instead.

My friends and I attempted to hike the Chief on my last day vacationing in Vancouver, but we got entirely rained out.  Instead, we met up with another friend who brought us to this place.  A huge and incredibly relaxing venue, we sipped delicious ale, ate some toasty sweet potato fries, and watched Planet Earth on the big screen.  I couldn't ask for more on a rainy Sunday.
