House of Dogs is a locally owned pup haven located on the Quinpool strip. You will find everything you need to keep your hairy friend happy and healthy, not to mention attractive with their in-house grooming services.
The owner and groomers are fond of taking a gentle approach when it comes to caring for mutts. I have a pal who used to work here and she is a super animal lover, so if all employees are as grand as she, then your pet is in good hands.
Collars, treats and toys abound at this small shop, with an emphasis on healthy options to keep your pup in great shape. Their treats are sans soy, corn and wheat which are often allergens for animals.
I don't have a dog, but bet this place would be a great choice if your canine is in need of some TLC. After 15 years of business, they must be doing something right! -

A joined a friend of mine recently for a trip to House Of Dogs for a little pooch pampering. Her dog (The Wonderful Alowishus) was in for some grooming and she was in for a new dog collar for the little fella.
I was not aware of the previous ownership that Ang mentioned so I can only speak for the stores current state, which seems to be great. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They were eager to work with Alowishus and he seemed comfortable in their care (perhaps they are all dog whisperers?).
In the end Alowishus got a new collar and looked pretty sharp when all was said and done. I'm sure, knowing him, that his lovely fur coat was quickly dirtied by a roll in a puddle, but for 15 or 20 minutes he was the most handsome pooch in the west end.
This is definitely a great place for dog lovers to take a look around, be sure to check it out! -

House of Dogs has changed ownership in the past year or two, and I have to confess that the place is just not the same without the old crew. The shop still has lots of doggie products, like collars, leashes and toys, and offers grooming and nail-trimming. There's just that certain je-ne-sais-quois - an exuberance that seems to be missing from the place these days.
Still, it's good to have dog specialty stores that are not part of pet-selling chains, so small shops like this do deserve our support. And the location is convenient for folks who work downtown and want to drop Pepper off for some pampering in the morning and pick her up on their way back out of town after work.

I have been grooming dogs and cats for 17 years, I don't personally use a grooming noose and take an all natural approach to grooming, this has allowed me to groom many animals that other groomers have turned away. I train my staff to be gentle and patient with the animals as well. I currently own 4 dogs and a cat, I am proud to say that most of the animals I have owned have been rescues. I currently work with the Dartmouth SPCA providing free grooming makeovers and spa treatments to their rescues, feel free to browse our website for before and after photos of the animals we have helped find a forever home.
