Hotel Metro follows the trend of upscale "boutique" hotels that offer touches of luxury at lower prices. The black and white decor here is ultra-modern with touches of brushed stainless steel and glass. It's very striking in photographs, but lacks a sense of warmth I prefer in other hotels.

The service here was exceptionally good - staff are very professional, friendly and efficient. I think this was the best aspect of my stay here. I also liked the Aveda and Starbucks products stocked in each room and the bathrobes...although they should consider providing slippers too.

The bed here was extremely comfortable, but unfortunately the second-floor room faced Dundas street, so the noise outside made it difficult to sleep much. The JLC and local bar scene late at night and early-morning buses are all fairly noisy. Keep this in mind if you're a light sleeper - there are rooms facing market lane which might be a bit quieter.

There are no bar fridges in the rooms here, although staff can bring you a bucket of ice to keep food/drinks cool. I like to travel with my own food and drinks, so this was a bit of a drawback.
