    Love love love this place!

I'd read the reviews on Trip Advisor. I tried to keep my expectations low. Hotel Du Vieux gets it right on all of the small details that make for a great stay. Rooms are tastefully appointed and impeccably clean. Bathrooms have wonderful showers with EXCELLENT water pressure. Very large flat screen tvs adorn the walls.

A relaxing and cozy lounge holds an wide array of DVDs to bring up to your room. Popcorn accompanies all borrowed DVDS. The nicest detail, however, is the picnic basket breakfast delivered every morning. Fresh croissants, yogurt, fruit, orange juice, maple butter - and without the pressure of having to wake up and get dressed in time to make it to a complimentary breakfast!

The location is superb, and the staff friendly and accommodating. My advice? Steer clear of the bigger chain hotels in Quebec and go straight to Hotel Du Vieux. For your money, it will not disappoint.

We did a lot of research before deciding on a hotel in Quebec. We wanted something not too expensive, a place that had an English speaking staff, a decent hotel restaurant, breakfast included, a bathtub (not just shower) and central location so we could walk most everywhere.

    We found it all here.

I will admit their recycling, energy friendly, bees on the roof approach to the environment was a BIG seller for us, too.

We arrived late because of bad weather and the young woman at the desk was waiting for us. She explained everything carefully in very good English. We could unload our luggage just feet from the front door.

The parking was offsite but only a block away. It was a secure location with access cards. They provide you a photo of the entrance and a detailed explanation of how it all works. That was nice because there's nothing worse than getting lost when parking your car. It's not free but reasonable.

We were just a few minutes away from the center square, the wall, several nice shops for souvenirs, the river front and Hotel Frontenac where we were having Sunday brunch. We took a taxi once because it got rainy and cold when we left brunch and didn't feel like dealing with wet clothes when we got to our next location.

As for the hotel: Very very clean, a full bathtub in the room,  the windows opened so we could view the street and hear the church bells, the breakfast hung on the door everyday was a wonderful treat with juice, pastries, yogurt, butter, maple spread - which we loved so much we bought some to bring back - and coffee makers in the room.

We only stayed 2 nights on this trip but would absolutely stay here again when we come back and stay longer.

This year, I decided to spend my birthday in Quebec city and see the carnaval. My g/f and I booked a room at the lovely Hotel du Vieux Quebec for it's prime location in the middle of the Old Quebec and the reasonable price on http://hotels.ca

I was very impressed with this little hotel. The reception at the front desk was very warm and inviting and the rooms were really nice with amazingly comfortable beds.

As other Yelpers have mentioned, the hotel provides a cute breakfast basket on a hook outside your door every morning so you can enjoy a little continental breakfast in bed everyday.

On the night we arrived, we were a little tired and decided to check out the cozy looking living room we spotted by the elevators downstairs. They have a bunch of really comfy couches, a fire place and tons of board games. We ended up playing a cool nautical trivia game I had never seen before.

The only problem we encountered was the lack of hot water for a couple of mornings. Upon checkout, they assured us that this was an issue with their boiler that was being addressed. They credited us $50 for the inconvenience without us having made any fuss about it, which I appreciated. Hopefully this was a one time issue and no one has to deal with cold morning showers...

What a wonderful hotel! It is in a perfect location for wandering around the old city. We thought the breakfast basket was such a nice way to start the day - it was really a lot of food! The room was very warm & dark so we found it almost too easy to sleep in.
The staff were very friendly, and also very forgiving of our minimal French skills.

Had a great week at this lovely hotel in the old walled portion of Quebec City. We could step out the door an be just where we wanted to be in the midst of all the narrow alleyways and historic architecture.

The highlight o the stay was the morning picnic basket breakfast that arrived on a hook on the door every morning. With juice, croissants and a few other goodies it is a great way to start the day.

When we arrived they provided a map and highlighted a couple of free activities around town during our stay.

They included a walking tour of the old city - fantastic! My advice is to take the tour first thing so that you have the inside information on where to eat and shop.

We go free parking so we parked the car for a couple of days without worry and cost so that we could walk around and drink and eat to our hearts content.

For a weekend in Quebec this hotel was perfect. Here are the main reasons I liked it:

    - Central location in the heart of Vieux Quebec (Old Quebec). One might expect this to be more of a con due to the popularity of the area but at night Rue St Jean quiets down while everyone heads over to Grande Allee for the clubs. Furthermore, there are a lot of touristy things to do right around the hotel if you're in to those things - if not it is also located near the main bus route and a bus terminal (main bus is 800 or 801)

    - The hotel itself was quite nice. Our room was clean and large with a great view of Vieux Quebec. We also enjoyed our breakfasts in bed every morning - fresh(ish) pastries from a bakery down the street (we suspect they were from the night before since they were delivered around 7am and a bit on the day-old-side of texture) with jams, yogurts and juices. Although it wasn't the best it still saved us a meal everyday...which means a lot on our student budgets!

-The price. For around $300 for 2 nights/3 days type weekend this was  one of the cheapest hotels in the area which usually directly related with cleanliness but thankfully not here! Although I prefer to bunk at hostels for $20/night or less I was ok with spending the money this time for more quality.

In summation, I would definitely recommend this hotel to my mother. It is safe, clean, and affordable.

Good location, convenient parking (1/2 block away- underground at City Hall- $14/night). Bilingual staff is extremely helpful and warm. they will advise you on everything that's going on and show you how to get there.  Some of the rooms are recently rehabbed.  Good lounge, coffee and vending machines available. Breakfast is included via a picnic basket hung on your door every morning including some local bread (coroissant, baguette, etc), butter and cheese, OJ, yogurt or fruit cup or similar.  The street the hotel's on has lots of shops and restaurants as well. Very nice place.  I rated as "pricey," but it's WAYYY cheaper than Fairmont and easily comparable to everything in Vieux Quebec.  Look directly on the website for specials.
