Hot Yoga Wellness Kennedy is hot yoga studio similar to Moksha but have additional Asian element Qigong implemented in some of the classes.

The location is in Scarborough.. hard to find at night as it is at the side of industrial complex look alike building and even their signs are not permanent... just a banner hanging across.

I was welcome in Mandarin with the receptionists.. not surprising since it is a really "chinese" area.

Amenities they are quite good.. with 3 showers, 2 toilets and filtered water to refill my water bottle. There are also some mini lockers in the waiting area to lock up your valuables if you do desire!

The class I took is one of those yogalates.. with first 30 minutes of standard moksha poses than then last 30 minutes more pilates movement with pilates breathing.  The instructor  was nice and did make the class quite enjoyable.

Hot Yoga Wellness Kennedy is a decent yoga studio.. but if you looking for variety.. and you not into just heated yoga, you might need to look somewhere else...

    4/1/2011 1 Check-in Here

I had a coupon from http://DealTicker.ca that was going to expire tomorrow.  I paid $18 for 1 months worth of unlimited classes.  I usually go to Moksha Yoga Scarborough, but seeing as it is now getting unbearably crowded where you can smell the person next to you's butt... I decided to cash in on my voucher and see what a different yoga studio had to offer.

It is located in a quiet plaza on Kennedy, just north of McNicoll.  It would be difficult to find at night.

I arrived at 6:30PM for the 7PM class because I didn't know what the crowds were like and I always like to get a spot in front of the mirror to allow me to see my posture and make adjustments as necessary.  And okay... maybe I like seeing my reflection too!  Ya got me!

Mary-Ann was the instructor tonight.  Although she gave good verbal guidance, she did not walk around to adjust anyone's posture.  I also found that she did not transition from pose to pose very smoothly.

And mid-class, I saw a girl veer sideways before crashing onto the floor.

I was happy to see that Hot Yoga Wellness was not as crowded, and everyone was able to sprawl out quite comfortably.  But that's about the only pro that I noted from this studio.

The cons are plentiful.  They have very very miniscule-sized lockers that are good for stowing away valuable possessions and hooks and shelves for you to stow your bags in the changeroom.  The floors of the studio are clearly not made for yoga.  You can already tell that the floors are starting to corrode as they are becoming uneven in some spots due to the extreme heat.  They use the standard "wood looking" sheet that covers the floors.  As a result, your feet stick to the floor and it creates a lot of noise as people trickle in.

The door to enter the studio is also not yoga-friendly as it is not a push door and is basically like a French door of a residential property, so when people come in and out, it is very noisy and disruptive, which makes it hard to get into your savasana.

Also, there are very few options, if any at all, for the full 90 minute classes in the evenings.  A full hot yoga class is supposed to be the full 90 minutes.  They have predominantly the 60 minute classes only.

I will continue coming until my 1 month unlimited classes are up, but will probably not be a returning customer.

They also use makeshift floor heaters to provide the heat in the room.

Thurs morn 930 class with Jovita.  It was hot and yes there were a couple of farts (didn't think this was a problem but maybe it is after reading Beatrice Y's review).  I found the receptionist really friendly and Jovita a welcoming teacher. Although she did have a strong accent, she  knew her moves and was a good instructor.  She didn't adjust everyone, but did to some.  The studio was very clean and I actually found the change room to be large- 3 showers!

The style of the yoga, moksha was a little random, bits and pieces of hatha and bikram.  I liked the heat and enjoyed the class.  Not too bad for Scarborough that is lacking yoga studios.

I quite enjoy hot yoga, and the hot yoga wellness chain is one of the higher quality chains in York region.

The type of yoga here is very similar to Moksha, yet you'll never know exactly what type you have. It seems like most of the instructors have their signature formula. -Not a problem for a schedule that lists instrutor names by the timings.

The best teacher (out of the two I've tried) is Jovita, and I'm quite familiar with her consistency and manner of instruction since I've taken her class at Hot Yoga Markham as well. She's a very flexible, agile yogi and a very clear instructor.

The studio is very new and located in a commercial unit nearby a few East Asian restaurants and a Starbucks(at McNicoll and Midland). You should fill up your water bottle ahead of time, because the only taps are available in the washroom and if you have a large bottle, good luck.

All in all a decent Yoga school worth looking into if you live in Scarborough, because there aren't many quality options in the area.
