This place was my first experience having hot pot so I had no clue what was going on. The servers were awesome to explain everything to us. We thought the food was pretty good, but then, we had nothing else to base it on. I would like to go back and try it again!

I came here on a Friday morning for dim sum. Tea is served differently here compared to other Chinese restaurants. Most places that I've been to, tea is served in a tea pot and you only get one choice or two, depending on how big you party is. At Hot Pot One, you are individually asked what type of tea you would like and the tea is brought out on a dish. A huge kettle of tea is placed on the stove to be heated up. The tea leaves are placed in your own personally cup. when the tea is steeped to your liking, you pour it out and onto your cup.
Dim sum was ordered and brought out shortly. The food was OK. There wasn't anything special about it. I think a lot of people that went to Hot Pot One came for the tea and company. The place was clean and fully staffed. The service was quick and efficient. I would give another star if the restaurant work on getting better tea and work on the food. The place was pretty quiet yet there was a steady trickle of people coming in for food. -

Not too impressed with this place. Came here on a weekend night, with last minute reservations. Guess we should have known that since it wasn't busy it can't be that good.
Onto the place. It's a nice modern place, with the heater being one of the built into the table kinds. They then come over and allow you to choose your own sauces and add different ingredients. I got a soy sauce with scallions, garlic, and a bit of satay sauce. Another peanut sauce on the side.
AYCE hot pot here. Selection? It was ok. There was your standard selection of beef slices, pork, and chicken. There was no pork jowl slices, which I especially like for hot pot. Seafood selection was also limited, with only oysters (max 2 per person), shrimp, and fish. Lots of veggie and noodle choices. Frozen tofu is awesome for hot pots!
We got a half szechuan half century egg and parsley soup base. How was it? Bland. Even the first run of it was bland. The soup is the essence of hot pots, and I was not happy with this one.
Meat quality was ok, nothing too thinly sliced, and veggies and seafood were also fresh.
Service was minimal, we had to get them to refill to the soup and our plum juice and water.
With the countless choices of AYCE hot pots in Richmond, I think I'll be going elsewhere next time.Listed in: Exploring Aberdeen.

They still don't have the black fungus that I crave and yet seem to find at other Hot Pot places. What is it with this location? We keep asking they keep saying no. I'll have to talk to the management the next time I come by. They obviously don't check out on Yelp.
Why we came here? The service was ok, they did pass us by quite a bit, but maybe cause they were busy?
Yes it was busy, but not that busy.
So what am I reallly writing here about? The AYCE (All you can eat) Hot pot. The meat is pretty good quality, better than Cattle Hot Pot's which slices them so thinly you can see through the meat. The veggies are good the assortment is not bad. They don't really have much of an assortment of mushrooms, but seem to have all the Tofu. They have some of the basic dumplings but not all of them. So variety wise, it's about average.
Soups. plain, not very flavourful and they water it down with even less flavourfull soups. If you order the szechaun soup it's not spicy at all. So NOT spicy that even H could eat from it. Now, that's NOT spicy!!
Then they water it down with the not very flavourful soup stock, so by the end of it we had coloured water. sad.
On the plus side, they have this cart with all the flavours you could want for dipping sauces. Mix and match what you like and they'll give it to you. I think the challenge here is that they usually come once at the beginning but you have to ask if you need refills. That's ok, I thought it was pretty neat at first, the first time around.
I do like this other place that has a condiment bar where you can customize your own dipping sauces and their soups are more flavourfull.
So this time around, I'm giving it only 2 stars. Mainly for the freshness of the ingredients, but not for the lack of flavour and the lack of my favourite ingredients. Sorry guys. Hopefully the owners will read this and maybe come up with the stuff to bring me back again.
Maybe I'm kinda too picky about my Hot pots. I see that there are some great reviews here, but I have to say, I like it spicy and the whole evening wasn't spicy at all. Great company present, despite my dorkiness. JP would have liked to have come. I'll have to get her out next time out for Hot Pot.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I have not gone out for hot pot or shabu shabu much in the bay area. The only one I have had experienced with is Hot Pot City in Milpitas. For comparison sakes, I will list out what HP One provides that HPC does not:
2 pairs of chopsticks for each patron
1 skimmer for each patron
Complimentary tea and special juice (plum or chrysanthemum)
Sliced beef, pork, geoduck, fish, wonton, chicken, a choice of a vegetable, and 2 types of broth
All neatly decorated for you. Pictures to come soon... -

I went there for lunch w/my colleagues. We ordered few dim sims and a pot of congee.
The dim sims were ok, the waitress forgot to place our order of congee. We kept asking them for it. The congee was bad coz quite watery and MSG.
I don't think we will to back for awhle. -

I came back here for lunch and was met with an entirely new menu. If your name has hot pot in it, why don't you have hot pot all day?! Their lunch menu is primarily congee and dim sum. While the food was good, they were expensive. Why pay close to $5 for ha gow, when you can get something similar for way less at a dim sum place? I was pretty disappointed. I won't be going back for lunch for sure.

Review from Kate B.
My boyfriend and I went here for a late lunch. The service was friendly but just ok. We sampled from the dim dum menu, my favorite was the octopus in curry and the steamed pork buns we try at every dim sum joint. I found the steamed pork buns a little dry but the flavor was very good. They do an unusual thing with the tea there is actually a built-in hot plate to the table so the water for the tea is heated at your table.
