What a great morning for some baked goods...
Came out to Whistler for my birthday weekend and stumbled upon Hot Buns Bakery. Of course I had to check it out based on the Name alone!
It's a cute little bakery tucked away in the village. Very personable and friendly staff, not that huge of a selection the morning we came in, but maybe it was early?
Overall, taste and quality of the food got a thumbs up from the boys in my family!
The price itself was normal bakery price, not to cheap, but not overly expensive.
Will go back again to see whats Buns are hot the next time! -

We decided to try to find breakfast in this ski town because we were getting tired of just eating cereal and milk in our hotel. Getting up and ready to go at 8, we found this spot to be opened and ready for business. And...yea, that's about it. For taste...meh.
I got the standard banana and nutella. You really can't botch that. Ever. My husband got the apple-cinnamon crepe because he's got a super sweet tooth. The one thing that bugs me of a spot that serves crepes...is cheating and using store bought , already made crepe wrappers!!! what in the world?!!?!?! The extra 10 mins it takes to whip up crepe batter and then making it by hand is not rocket science, but this place got extremely lazy and went that route instead. Sigh. This results in a gummy crepe wrapper instead of the light and fluffy wrapper a crepe is supposed to be. Again, read my previous blogs about eating crepes around the world.
The joint is tiny, but I guess it gets the job done as the standards of eating in Whistler...you'll have to knock it down 2 notches from your usual standards. But again...rubber tasting crepes...even the nutella can't hide that. I guess it's either the crap McD's 45 mins away for a crap breakfast joint...or a doable one here. -

Stopped in for breakfast before hitting the slopes. Ordered a breakfast crepe with ham, cheese, and eggs, only to find that they are all premade and just reheated. Um really?! It really is not rocket science to whip up some batter and add some eggs and ham to it. To make matters worst, it was so gross, that we just left without finishing our food. I guess we should have looked around because the table of 4 who left before us felt the same way. Their crepes were untouched and they all left too. No thanks!

Nothing really special at this place. I'll take a Costco danish over the ones here.
Great place to sit and relax to kill time in the village. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Service is very friendly and attentive. -

North York, ON
Atmosphere: 3/5 - charming, warm and nice smell of baked goods
Coffee/Late: 3/5 - good, but nothing special, and many others have better, including Starbucks just across the street from this store
Now to the fun part.
I ordered the "Breakfast Crepe". I was starving, about to go on the slopes and I wanted some nutrition to keep me going till a late afternoon hot chocolate.
First of, the appearance of the thing - the "crepe" was anything like i'd ever seen in crepe's before, and i've had these things all over France this past summer. The texture was wrong, it looked like something made from Hemp products - I kid you not. The taste, the real important aspect of this whole review...it literally tasted like crap. I hate giving bad reviews to places, but this "breakfast crepe" was the worst tasting food i've had in a restaurant/bakery that I can ever recall.
The eggs inside were totally bland, the ham was crap ham from a package, all cut up so tiny you couldn't even taste the processed ham taste. The cheese, was very sparse. But the worst taste of all belonged to the so-called CREPE. I mean, how the hell do you make this thing taste like dirt? Yes, dirt. It was tasteless, odourless, and lacked any consistency in flavour whatsoever. Once when I was a kid we tried eating dirt for fun, and trying this crepe brought back memories of that awful day.
Stay away from the crepes at this place at all cost - they need a bakery chef to show them the basics of creping 101. If a french person tried one of these hideous things, they would run out screaming for the guillotine to be brought back!
I should have just had a simple pastry - who knows, maybe it would be a different chef. -

Every time I come to Whistler, I make it a point to visit this place. Albeit, they don't have the best crepes I've ever had in my life, they're good enough to keep me coming back.
Vibe is just like any other place in Whistler Village - funky, wacky, and wtf-ish. The guy who makes the crepes is the same Québécois who has done it for the past 6 years. Though he's become more guido over the years. -

Friends from home emphatically suggested I try the banana & Nutella crepe, but bananas aren't my bag so I opted for the apple-cinnamon crepe instead. I'd never had a crepe so I don't have much to compare to, but the crepe was certainly edible. The apples were tart and crisp, the cinnamon balanced out the fruit, and the dough seemed fine. I did feel a tad queasy after ward, but I don't know if I should blame the crepe or Canada's funky tap water. My mom had the breakfast crepe and, while she liked the filling, she said the crepe dough reminded her of wet cardboard. Not very complimentary. She did praise the mocha she ordered, though. Since there are other breakfast places/bakeries in Whistler, I don't think we'll be back.

Hot buns (hee hee, I'm immature) is great for a semi quick breakfast for the full day ahead on the mountains. Came across it the night before and decided to try it out in the morning.
The savory crepes are good. They don't make the doughy cover freshly... saw them just take it from a pile and heat it. It probably saves them time and helps them push them out faster. We did get the ham/cheese/egg (breakfast crepe) fast. And it was goood. The apple muffin was also very good. The cinnamon buns looked large and delicious but I couldn't get myself to order one at the fear of comatosing on the mountain.Listed in: Canuck

Came here in the morning before we catch our flight home. The cafe was really small and we didn't have a place to sit inside (it was really cold out). Luckily we were able to share a small table with this nice gal from England. *Thanks*
I ordered a croque monsieur crepe - ham and swiss cheese, and a mocha. The crepe wasn't very good. It was crispy and brittle and it was kinda sweet. The mocha was nothing fantastic either.
Will try Crepe Montagne next time, but their price seems to be much higher... in the $20s range for one. -

Before heading out on a terribly grey summer day, we stopped for breakfast here. I had an apple crepe, and it was really good. This is a solid 3 stars.

We've been visiting Hot Buns for breakfast on at least one morning of our ski trips for the past few years. Its never been completely clear if the name of the establishment refers to the baked goods or the wait staff, but it seems to apply equally to both. Those are both excellent reasons to visit.
Their crepes, both sweet or savory, are great. This morning they weren't quite at their best and messed up my order a bit, but were happy to remake my crepe to get it right. I also had a hot cinnamon bun and a cup of coffee, which was plenty for the morning. My tab was about $10 CAD, which came out to about $.75 USD, I think. Check out this place for good breakfast as well as a bit of nice scenery. -

Crepe not that good- strawberry and chocolate crepe- they used chocolate syrup instead of nutella?? what! Not filling enough for riding.
Chai was good the first time- the second- not so much- used a bag for chai was weak no matter how long you waited. First time- tasted honey- second, not. I wouldn't go back.
Maybe the buns are better... -

The strawberry + chocolate crepe was an epic fail
the hot chocolate was nice and warming. I'd stop in again for a hot chocolate! -

The cinnamon rolls here are quite tasty. They're big with crispy edges and a hint of orange flavor, and I found myself buying one almost everyday while I was in Whistler. Despite being a little pricey ($3 a pop) you can get 4 for $2.75 or 6 for $2.25 each. They charge 25 extra cents for frosting and while I find that the frosting improves the gooeyness and tastiness of the cinnamon roll, most of the time the rolls didn't have enough slathered on (although the one in my pic was nicely covered). I should also mention that I heated the buns in a toaster oven too, which makes it taste better than eating it cold.
This bakery also sold white cupcakes w/ white frosting for $1.50 each. I can never pass on a cupcake; they called out to me so that I just had to get one....or two.....
Anyway, the cupcakes were delicious and I thought this was an overall decent bakery. -

Crepes, Buns, Coffee.
All good, but not outstanding.
Breakfast Crepe: Pretty good, a little dry but good.
Chocolate Strawberry Crepe: Frozen strawberry's and watery Chocolate? It tasted fine but dripped all over.
Buns: the Bun was good but not hot, skip the frosting. -

Atmosphere: Charming little bakery that makes their pastries, croissants, breads, muffins, rolls, fresh each day. Seats probably 20 inside, and another 8 outside (great for summer). Fun to watch the bakers making their products and their crepes.
Service: Quick, attentive, friendly.
Price: $3.50 for a chocolate croissant or Raspberry croissant. Roughly the same for danish's and cinnamon rolls. Coffee is also fairly priced here. I believe the crepes are about $8-10 but I have never tried one.
Food: The blueberry danish is one of my favorite treats up at Whistler. The pastry itself is very crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside with a generous amount of sticky sugar (icing?) on the outside round this delicacy off. On top are blueberries that must have been dipped in the same sugary coating as the pastry. Once this is warmed up slightly, it's one of the best desserts around. I also love the chocolate croissants which are 'square' and have a generous portion of chocolate on the interior, while chocolate drizzle tops the exterior. Once this is warmed up, the pastry flakes off in your mouth and the chocolate is top notch quality. Highly recommended for a post-dinner treat.
Bottomline: Best pastries in town, really tasty chocolate croissants, good price for all treats. -

Decent cup of hot chocolate on a cold, rainy day in Whistler. I wish they hadn't run out of all or most of their bakery items. Would have loved a chocolate croissant or a brownie. But their cinnamon sticks were pretty good.

The place definitely had character and it was cute. Went here for a quick bite for lunch before a long drive back home. I got a breakfast crepe with eggs, ham, and cheese. I put Tabasco sauce on the crepe here and there. It wasn't bad but I've had better. My husband got a southwestern crepe with chicken, cheese, and black beans. His crepe was better than mine and I wish that I tasted his at the beginning so I could have swapped mine with his. I'll definitely go back here and try their pastries and cinnamon buns. Paid about 24 bucks for 2 crepes and 2 drinks.

excellent cinnamon buns, a great way to start a day of skiing. The coffee is halfway decent so it's your one stop shop (and alternative to Starbucks) prior to hitting the slopes

Definitely better places to go than here. Lift has a better cinnamon roll and Montagne has more authentic and better tasting crepes. The crepes here came out of a plastic bag. The bran muffin was the only thing that was all right. The atmosphere was cute, but that's about it.

Great place for crepe and pastries. Opens at 7 am and got warm delicious raspberry cream cheese and chocolate croissants and mango Danish. Also very good cappucino. Was recommended by a local as the best bakery in Whistler.

Great cinnamon bun and crepe but the coffee was terrible. The shot was about 9 seconds long and weak, weak, weak... though I loathe SBUX I understand why people go there... at least you know what slop you are getting.

Their crepes weren't that good. They made the chai latte with a bag of chai tea and steamed milk. And the glass was only half full. Perhaps they knew that they were one of the affordable eateries in the village so they didn't try very hard.
