Overall a great place. A very nice relaxing atmosphere to go with friends and relax and have a few pints.

The only downside is the service can be lacking sometimes with the servers being busy.

Got food poising once on Monday wing night :(. But that can happen at anyplace

Overall, not enough to make me not go back and enjoy the atmosphere of the place

In the general North Burnaby area, there are three pubs I enjoy going to. Mountain Shadow, Soho's (now closed), and Hop & Vine.

Of the three, Hop & Vine would be my favourite. Let me explain, in brief, why I credited it with 4-stars.

    - 10-cent wings on a Monday night.
    - Significantly larger wings/drum sizes (even during 'wings night').
    - Decently priced pub-grub that won't destroy your wallet.
    - An ever-changing and unique beer selection.
    - Cozy atmosphere with communal-sized tables.
    - HD televisions in almost every direction.
    - Free pool table in the back.

The service is a hit or miss. I've been here at times when service was top knotch, but contrasted by the times when my group and I were left waiting for service.

Ultimately, the positives outweigh the negatives which is why I enjoy coming back here time and time again.

There's a huge lot for parking and it's next to a private liquor store. Win, eh?

Far off the beaten path around possibly the worst named park in Vancouver, lies a little gem of a pub called the Hop & Vine. Gem is a fairly loose term here though, I warn you.

This is definitely what the British love calling a 'plastic pub'. It's set up in a strip mall, sparkling clean and reeks of newness. Nothing really 'authentic' about the vibe I suppose, but what can you expect from a new city like Burnaby.

What it does offer though is reasonably priced drinks and merriment in an area fairly devoid of such offerings. The closest pub is the Mountain Shadow and The Hop & Vine offers darts and a little more quiet than the old Shad' ever can.

If you want to beat the crowd and some of the extra collegiate feel at the bottom of Burnaby Mountain, definitely head down to the Hop & Vine. All you're sacrificing is old wood on the walls.

    this place was pretty hurtin'

I ended up here the other night because the place we wanted to go to didn't exist anymore apparently and this was the closest watering hole per our GPS.

crappy music, poorly mixed drinks, and  the waitress sat about 15 feet away from us flirting with one customer , and never once came by and asked us if we wanted refills ...in 45 minutes

really nothing special about the place except the pool table was free which gave this place an extra star...otherwise, yeah, i'm not going back.

Stopped in for an early evening drink. I ordered a Caesar (every place seems to have Caesars on special for Sunday), but it didn't taste very good to me. Maybe it had too much Worcestershire, I don't know. Also, the waitress checked up on us from over a short wall type thing, and I was a bit startled... couldn't she have walked around it? Maybe I am being unreasonable.

Overall, nothing much to draw me back here.

Went there for lunch and not impressed. After 15 minutes of waiting for a refill on our coffee I took the cups up to the bar to fill them myself and the server gets mad at me for doing her job. 2/3 of the plates were cold and the other was untouchable hot. The butter chicken was no better than mall food. I won't be going back and you should skip this place. Bad service, weak food and boring atmosphere.
