Great place to go and watch a game! The food was definitely above average for pub fare, and the beer selection was excellent.
Screens at every booth make sure you won't miss a minute of whatever game is on. The service was great, and the pool table is a welcome distraction to keep you around after the game is over.
Really can't emphasize enough how great the service was here - some of the best I've ever had at a sports bar. -

Food was okay, beer prices were reasonable, service was good.
However, because the Leafs weren't playing, the bartender refused to put on the sound for two other NHL games (Ottawa-Bruins and Vancouver-Calgary). Instead, it was Lilith Fair-type music blaring (literally Jewel and Sheryl Crow) all night long. We won't go back. -

I like Hoops a lot. Hoops has great service, a friendly crowd and it is not to UFC if you get my drift. There are many TV's, including at the booths and they have a lot of veg and vegan items available.
The price is decent and the service is fast. Servers differ here a lot, there are some friendly ones, and some not so friendly but either way your food comes hot, the drinks are cold and you can watch Maury Povich or Family Feud while you eat Lunch!
I like it, it could be brighter, it could have friendlier service, and it could handle having the server coming back for the check back and bringing over the condiments without being asked. -

Came here last night for the Hockey Game and it actually wasn't bad (talking about the restaurant... the hockey game is another story...) The Waitress we had was nice and attentive, even though it was packed.
I do appreciate their specials. Drink and Food specials every day of the week. I enjoyed a couple 16oz Bud's for $4 and they had a rib and wing special that day for $13.99 which I didn't get but saw others ordering and it looked like a good deal. Double shots of rum were also on special for $6.95.
I ordered the calamari, which is still some of the best in the city! But they served it in some cone shaped bowl which was harder to get at (especially after a couple...few...lots of... drinks)
Couple complaints:
-Very loud
-Womans washroom is very tiny and only has 1 sink/mirror
-No place to go outside and have a cigarette, you kind of just have to stand out on Yonge street...Listed in: shots shots shots

This place bleeds testosterone and there is certainly no shortage of TVs.... so why the low rating? The food here is mediocre at best. I have been to plenty dives and sketchy sports bars and received way better food at a better price.
So skip the food here which won't be hard because the waitresses practically don't exist. Order your drinks in clusters or a pitcher.
As I recall their domestic and rail shots are pretty cheap. -

I was here to catch a hockey game with my girlfriend while going for a drink at the same time. I specifically chose this place because I've heard of their TV's a lot and I wanted to check them out myself. Well, the thing is, they have a lot of TV's including in the booths and floor, but the quality is so bad. Sure, I get to flip channels to watch what I want, but man...what happened to that score clock?! The display is distorted and I had to frequently look at other TV's for it.
Then came the horrible and slow service. We ordered 2 pints of Canadians and a pound of wings to start. It took 10 minutes for 2 pints to show up and 40+ minutes for the wings. I asked the waitresses for the status of my order, and she didn't even know if I had received my order. Great. Then the food came in about 5 minutes, all cold and soggy. I just didn't bother for a new plate just because I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for the food. A little while later, we ordered 2 more pints of the same and a plate of calamari. It was better than the wings this time, but the service was still slow.
Only time they worked fast was when I asked for the bill. 4 pints (domestic), a pound of wings and a plate of calamari came out to be almost $50 after tax which isn't so cheap. Not especially for the crappy service and food.
Don't come here unless you need to watch something. Just grab a pint to finish watching the game and then go elsewhere for the real food and drinks. -

Hoops is the best sports bar I have come across in T.O so far, in terms of the number of TV's available.
My friend and I were here to watch Game 6 of the 2011 NBA Finals (Dallas vs. Miami) and the place was packed. Since the bar is named "Hoops", it has a strong basketball-watching fanbase who were intently watching the game, though I was perplexed by all the fans cheering for Chris Bosh in a Miami Heat uniform.
My buddy and I ordered wings and a pitcher of Creemore. The wings were nothing special, but the Creemore brew was excellent.
I would be more than willing to return to Hoops for any type of televised sporting event. It has a great atmosphere. Word to the wise though, try to arrive early if you want table seating. Also, try to be near the diesel 9-screen panel TV set up at the center of the bar. -

I really like this place. I never realized how much more convenient it is to watch the game right in the booth. The wings were AWESOME!! Extremely HOT! The Wait Staff was great! And the drinks were made well. Very conveniently located. Will definitely be back.

I came back for the wing special, You can't beat the price $4.99 Tuesday. comes with a decent portion of skinny fries. and vegie sticks.and dip . I had the honey garlic. the wings were well coated in sauce as is not always the case. I'm not a sports fan at all but the clarity of the "in your face, " big screen behind the bar is awesome . Service is Ok no complaints . Its pub grub delivery .

I liked this place......It had a very diverse group of people in there and the bar tenders were great...........Watched the Boston Bruins kick the shit out of the lowly Canucks and met some fun people. go for it if you have adventure in your life

I know this is a typical sports bar - but I have a few Beefs!
First off the music there is WAY too loud ... I can hardly hear myself think.
I used to like this place but now I look for places where I can actually have a convo and not just drink like a fish.
I didnt like the fact that they started charging admission on certain nights like when the UFC was on...I mean come on! You're a SPORTS BAR you shouldnt be charging admission for something you're suppose to be showing anyways. I bet when it comes to the playoffs for Hockey they will do the same thing. I think that is nuts and uncalled for.
I agree with other Yelpers that the service is slow and the cocktails aren't made properly so stick with a beer.
I go here for the occasional drink with friends but it's usually a last resort. -

While visiting Toronto for Supercross, it was a welcomed sight to see this sports bar right across the street from our hotel. Hoops became our hangout for 2 nights while we were there. Typical sports bar, though flat screen TVs everywhere...even at your table!
The first night we visited, the service was terrible. Granted we were a party of 9, but still, we waited about 30 min. for our food. Ridiculous! Food shouldn't take that long, especially if the place is not busy!
The second night we just drank, and service was better. I will say, the drinks here are good, but a bit pricey.
I was able to pull up a chair to a table of guys watching the opening F1 race this year live on their table TV. Very cool.
Would I visit Hoops again on my trip to Toronto in 2010? Yea...I would, but only for drinks, not for food. A good place to meet up before your night out on the town, I suppose. -
Review from Cameron Y.
From a purely sports perspective (quantity of TVs, selection of sports, etc.) this place doesn't disappoint; hell, there are even TVs in the floor. That said, from nearly every other perspective, it's mediocre at best. The beer selection is underwhelming, and the service is just plain awful. Yes, I realize it's a sports bar, but I've been to many a sports bar that excelled in areas beyond the selection of televised sports and quantity of TVs. I can't remark as to the quality of the food beyond the nachos, because once we realized how atrocious the service was, we opted to depart and eat dinner elsewhere. I'm sure there are far better offerings in this city.

I'm not a sports fan, but I was with some sports fan. The problem is, the service is incredibly SLOW. They bring your drinks about 10 minutes after you ask for them (and the bar was empty) and you have to wait the eternity for the food (and, again, the bar was EMPTY).
I believe people go there because OMG you can watch whatever games there are in the world (today I could watch paralympics curling AND hockey at the same time, while my friends were watching european soccer), but as I'm not into sports that much, the slow service and not-so-good food make this bar just "meh" for me.Listed in: Party Time

Raptors everywhere! Chris Bosh in big screens! In small TVs in every booths! Even on the floor! Well not everywhere, other sports games were on too. But yup, 'nuff TVs!
Definitely a good spot to catch a Raps game when they are away. Given that we are in a hockey town, well in a hockey country, there's really not that many bars in downtown Toronto that plays Raptors games and specially non Raptors related basketball games. Some bars will play it, but in one of their small screen TVs and all you can hear is how bad the Leafs are ( don't shoot me, I may someday have kids). Don't get me wrong, I love sports in general, and I support the Leafs too ( hmmm not really ) but when I watch a Raptors game, I want to hear A Raptors game. At Hoops, they don't just play Raptors on their big screens, you can even hear Vince Carter whine after getting blocked by Bargnani! (well didn't really happen, but you get the point)
Food wise, I've had better bar food. Portions are quite small and expensive. They have good beer selections, just don't expect the finest beer from Belgium or Czech.
If you're looking for a spot to catch a game or a fight with the boys and girls, Hoops is where its at. If you are looking for quality food and drinks, skip Hoops, and go a little down south of Yonge St., left on either Wellington or Front or Esplanade and hit St. Lawrence. -
Review from Tina S.
TVs TVs everywhere, and not a drop to drink. Okay, there was definitely a drop to drink, but the service was a bit slow and the drinks a bit expensive.
Awesome for watching sports - the liveliest place for American football I have been able to find so far, so that is much appreciated and why I am giving it 4 stars. If this bar were in NYC it would be so jam-packed with ass clownery.... oh, I miss New York. The food is not bad, either.
I'm down. -
Review from Jeremy B.
3 Americans in Toronto looking for a spot to watch the Monday Night Football game, we were referred to this place and headed there since it was near the hotel. With TVs at the booths, on the walls and even on the floors (?!?!) you won't miss the game you're trying to watch here, and that's a major plus. I considered giving it 3 stars just for that. However, the food I thought was really overpriced. Most things on the menu, typical sports bar fare were about twice what you would pay at most sports bars in the US. Not to mention they throw in that extra liquor tax. However, that's probably more of a Toronto thing than a problem with Hoops. I mean, it is downtown Toronto, so it's not going to be cheap.
We had a couple pitchers of Canadian beer: Cremer's? (think that was it) and Steamwhistle, and both were excellent. There was a hilarious moment when, after finishing the first pitcher, we asked for a recommendation on another beer to try next and the waitress said "I like MGD. It's pretty good". MGD, as in Miller Genuine Draft? HAHAHA...LOL. We couldn't believe she recommended that over some of the quality beers they had on tap there! Maybe because she knew we were Americans or something, but that's like telling someone to go eat at McDonald's for the best hamburger in town. LMAO. She was nice despite the fact she doesn't know anything about beer.
The food was decent: good not great. We didn't dislike anything and ate it all, but nothing was particularly tasty. Bill for 3 of us came to over $100, and we only had two pitchers of beer and split some wings, poppers and nachos. The bathroom was kind of dirty. I would not go back to this place unless I was in Toronto and specifically wanted to watch a sporting event on TV that I knew they wouldn't have at most places in the area. -

It's a sports bar in the most stereotypical ways. There are TVs everywhere. TV on stands all over the bar. TVs in each of the booths. TV in the floor (actually.) The cool thing about the TVs in the booths is that you can control them, so if you have a particular game or fight or episode of Star Trek that you feel like watching, it's up to you to pick the channel.
The staff also falls under the stereotype of sports bar waitresses. Short skirts, tight tops, etc. They're all friendly, but it's clear that they just work here and don't take any ownership over their job, the menu, or the beers.
The beers on available are the standard brands (Molson's, Labatt's, a few Ontario microbrews, etc) that you'll find at most bars. -
Review from Adam B.
Down N Dirty Sports Bar with four locations in the GTA. Came here to check out the beer and it's your basic Canadian choices. Molson, Labatt, Rickard's, Steamwhistle and so on. Prices I thought were a little too high. $6,.95 for a Steamwhistle? Really? What I did like were all the TV's and even the 90's old school 3x3 big screen setup at the bar. Service was a little slow. Especially when it came to settling the tab. That seemed to take forever. OK Sports Bar. But you can do better,

After goofing around the city for a few days during a recent visit to Toronto, we wanted to wrap things up by having some drinks close to the Marriott before passing out. Couldn't have picked a more appropriate spot! We stumbled into this palace of televised sports a few times, and it lives up to what a sports bar should be. It features a plethora of televisions, a nice open view of Yonge, decent prices on draft pitchers, and it's open pretty late as well. It's crowded enough to be lively, but not nearly to the point that you have to fight for a seat. We didn't have to wait long between empty and full beers, and the staff was friendly enough as well. Frankly, doesn't leave much to complain about!

Came here more times than I like to admit and watched far too many hockey games. I would only recommend this place for happy hour and if a really good game is on. Other than that, I'd try my luck elsewhere.

I've been here a bunch of times of the last 5 years and a 2 things come to mind: The service is terrible, like really, really slow. But despite this I love this place. I always walk away bleary eyed and laughing. Lengthy food menu, but a slim beer list, tons of TVs, and really good times. The kitchen is open until bar close which is a big plus. Fun atmosphere, nice location.
