Their ordering system uses iPod Touches!! How cool is that??

Inside, the feel is almost like Hong Kong... it's about as close as I've seen any restaurant get to it in the USA or Canada, and I've been to a ton. They have just the right amount of grit on the floor, combined with the plastic chopsticks and cheap cups for tea and everything else...

Sadly the food is a letdown. The won ton mein and sieu mein (sp?) are both pretty good, but they're not award-winning as they claim. The dan dan noodles and the Singapore style chow mein are only so-so, like the wok wasn't hot enough or something, so the noodles are too mushy.

They also closed to new customers earlier than expected... evidently they close up fully at 9pm or something, but they stop letting people in the door at 8:20pm on Sundays? A little odd.

I agree with the others who reviewed this restaurant and suggested wanting to give Hon's Wun-Tun Hou only zero stars.  My family and I wanted to stop in here for a hot bowl of soup while we enjoyed some you tiao we purchased from a small bakery close by and were shamed by the waitresses!  The food was gross, the utensils looked dirty, and the service was terrible.  There is no redeeming quality about this restaurant, especially for out-of-towners looking for a place to rest their feet.

This morning, my family and I took a long trip from Washington state in search of some good you tiao and soy milk in Vancouver Chinatown, like we had done in years past.  When we arrived, we realized that Vancouver Chinatown did not have street venders that sold you tiao like they used to.

We first stopped off at Richmond where most dim sum restaurants were not open until mid-day.  We continued to Vancouver, where while most dim sum places were open, none of them served soy milk and you tiao, the Beijing-nese meal we had been desiring.  We asked around the vendors and they pointed us to this small cake shop on Pender Street in Chinatown that made just you tiao for take-out.

We bought some you tiao and jian dui and were looking for a place where we could rest our feet from our travels and eat in peace, hopefully with a hot bowl of soup - instead of hole up in our car and chug the food with cold, bottled water.  So, we saw this restaurant across the way and decided to go in.  Because we had the you tiao and that people in our family normally don't eat very much to begin with, we ordered two bowls of wun-tun soup to split between the four of us.  After we stopped ordering, the waitress all but ripped the menu out of my hand and off the table - she was clearly upset that we did not order more than we did.  But really, I think we had the right to order only as much as we could eat.

After the soup came, my poor grandfather pulled out one you tiao to have with his soup - the sole purpose of us having come to this restaurant in the first place.  The waitress was starring at him the whole time and then came to our table, shook her finger in front of his face to tell him that he could not eat it there.  Then, she came back to our table to tell him that she would charge us $2 if we continued eating.  Because my grandfather does not understand English, he took one more bite.  She came back again to make sure we understood that she would charge us $2 for EACH of the you tiao.  She shook her finger in front of his face again and yelled "No, eight dollars if you eat it all!"  Finally, we translated for him and told him that we should probably put it away.

I mean, I understand that it's not the politest thing to bring outside food into a restaurant.  But, we were really tired and had nowhere else to go.  Soy milk and you tiao was the reason why we went to Vancouver; it was the meal we promised my grandparents.  With 89-year-old elderly with us, it's hard to just grab and eat in the car.  I think most restaurants (at least those in the USA) would have just dealt with it.  They probably would have been unhappy, or AT THE VERY LEAST asked nicely that we not bring outside food in.  If they had, we would have felt much better about putting it away.  I would not have left the restaurant, after hours of driving, with an upset stomach.

There was not enough soup with the hard, fried egg noodles.  The pork wun-tuns and shui jiao in the noodle soup smelled sketchy.  The dishes were terribly dirty.  The tea was served in pink plastic cups.  Because there was insufficient broth with the soup, my grandmother had to dump her tea into the noodles just to finish the food in her bowl.

I would recommend NO ONE to come here unless you want to pay $7 per person for bad service, bad food, and dirty utensils.

Not very appetizing. Randomly stumbled into this place as a hungry tourist. Got some sweet and sour pork and green beans. It's hard to mess up green beans so they were OK. But I definitely didn't dig the pork, which tasted pretty bad despite the layers of breading and sweet & sour sauce.

ive been going to hon's in chinatown since i was little. my parents never liked it but meh.. its cheap and fast.

ok, so let me share this disgusting experience with you guys.  i went in and ordered take out. i sat there watching the servers do their work. and when i saw my food being wrapped up. THE SERVER SNEEZED AND USED HER HAND TO COVER HER MOUTH (and did not wash the hands after). she was probably thinking i was staring into space and didnt catch her and also couldnt speak cantonese.
little did she know, my canto was good enough to tell her "i just saw you sneeze and you didnt wash your hands!!" in front of the manager. of course she went to wash her hands right after and was muttering something to her co worker.

oh my god, i know its chinatown but at leastt be more sanitary!

Le sigh. We had high hopes for the food here, but it was only subpar. The wontons were small and the egg noodles were hard. The sauce for the dan dan noodles was bland. The stir fried udon with xo sauce was good, but it was all thanks to the xo sauce. For a wonton house, they didn't even have red vinegar. The portions for the noodles soups are tiny, but at least it was cheap. The food was quick. The service was terrible and our server serviced us with indifference, but we were impressed by the ordering system. They inputted our orders on an iphone and it got sent to the kitchen.

I am pretty to new to chinese cuisine because I had a bad experience before and really really didn't ever want to eat chinese ever again.

The service at this Hon's is HORRENDOUS. Why do I have to ask for my bill? And why do I have to chase you down? Not even done ordering food and I'm like UMM.. I want a drink! And she was annoyed to have to take it. Obnoxiously rude ladies (the older ones, really). Holy crap people, be lucky you have a job!

I had the bbq'ed pork and wunton soup and it was okay. The soup I had at another place was better, but I really liked the bbq'ed pork. I am not a big pork fan either. We also had the moo-shu pork and I was told this was the cheap version (aka not that great). Does this normally come with tortilla's?? I found that a bit odd. Oh well.

I'm on the search for better chinese cuisine, but not like Anthony Bourdain style, yo.

Hon's is for street food greasy noodles and potstickers, if you are looking for a traditional Chinese meal don't go to Hons. They are the fast food equivalent for Chinese, for this I go. Also their prepared sticky rice from the deli counter is great, take it home and pop it in the freezer, when you want to impress with a quick meal, pop it and some dumplings into a streamer for 30 minute, bang on for a quick light meal.

And for those commenting on the tea they serve it is courtesy to give tea to someone when they sit down, always has been always will be.

I rolled in...with zero expectations, not even knowing I was going here.  And even with zero expectation, it still didn't meet my expectations.  Is that possible?
I had a noodle dish, with vegetables - well, as it turns out just  'a vegetable' (Chinese broccoli).  At least they had a few things on the table to add to it to give an iota of taste.  The noodles were probably pretty fresh though.
Having just gotten over a flu as well, the fact that it was practically subzero temperatures while eating didn't fit me that day.  But, perhaps given a different day I would have appreciated the different kind of eating experience that Hon's has to offer.
My moral of the story is....check Yelp reviews beforehand.

I must say that the food here is actually pretty good, it would almost be equivalent to our "Mike's Noodle House" but the service here REALLY SUCKS! It's almost like you have to slap them on the butt to get their full attention! Their ordering system is pretty hi-tech I thought for a small little Chinese joint, all the staff member carrys around a ipod touch or IPhone that is directly linked to their POS system so with a touch of a button your order has been submitted!

Price is pretty dirt cheap, ironically they always give you boiling hot tea along with your hot noodle soup! Why I don't know, but it was kind of bothering me. Overall still a good place for a quick bite if you don't mind the service or the potential wait.

Freaking gross!   Dirty tables, nasty fish stench, totally rude waitresses....

Hon - why do you serve hot tea in plastic pink cups?  that makes no sense.   Also, you should just buy potstickers at Trader Joe's and serve those - they're way better :)

If I could I give it 0 stars... It was a terrible experience. I was there with my friends and each of us ordered a different meal. All were disgusting. We were disgusted. Stinky dishes. The worst was chicken fish noodles. And pork won ton soup. Smell was terrible, taste as well and we were all feeling nauseous. I was thinking their washroom was broken - such a bad smell... but it was actually that food that was smelling like shit.
And washroom was so dirty..

Don't go there!!!

My husband and I asked a Chinese woman in Chinatown for a good Chinese restaurant. The woman said she was on her way to one and walked us to Hon's. We were unimpressed.
Both the service and food were subpar.
We started with our favourite soup: hot and sour soup. It was somewhat bland. And they seemed to use and excessive amount of corn starch to thicken it, perhaps the reason for the blandness.
The pieces of roast pork were very small (very narrow and not so long but at least at decent thickness) The taste of the roast pork was very different from the roast pork I am accustomed to in New York's Chinatown, which has very authentic Chinese food.
Go across the street to the store if you're a Coke drinker who refuses to drink Pepsi. Hon's only serves cans of soda, and the only cola is Pepsi.

If I could give 0 stars I would. It was that bad. The worst meal of my life bad.

I ordered what was, on the menu, listed as some sort of diced chicken with peppers, and peanuts (spicy). The picture looked good. Instead, what arrived on my plate was 95% frozen peas and carrots cooked in a bland sauces with a few pieces of "chicken" which appeared to be un-breaded chicken McNuggets that were barely cooked. One of the most disgusting things I've ever tasted, and I must say I've travelled all over the world and tried some interesting stuff. I'm not a picky guy.

This was abysmal. I can't say this enough...avoid this place at all and any costs.

Stopped in this afternoon at random while on a long walk. Potstickers were pretty greasy, singapore noodles were average, and tofu with barbecue pork was missing something critical -- like, flavor. Clearly, a lot of people like this place, because it is apparently rated highly by readers of Straight (Vancouver's alternative paper), etc., according to signs in the window. And, we had very efficient service, and the place seemed pretty clean, and the patrons seemed to be a 50/50 mixture of Asians and non-Asians -- all good things. I just wish I cared about the food, which is usually why I go to restaurants.

This is a review for the market adjoining the restaurant at Hon's, so the rating is based on this. The restaurant was too full for a quick lunch, so I went to the market area which carried numerous types of dumplings and noodles that Hon's makes and that can be also found in supermarkets like T&T. There is also a meat market where you can pick up roast pork and the like. I ended up ordering the dried shrimp rice noodles which were sold by the pound in large packages. They are a bit bland to eat, so it would be best to steam and add a little bit of soy sauce with perhaps chili sauce mixed for a quick and easy meal. Overall, I found this to be a nice stop in Chinatown Vancouver to pick up noodles to go.

Living near Chinatown, we are privy to very good Asian cuisine of all sorts, including Hon's Wun -Tun House, the purveyors of cheap, good eats at lightening speeds!  About 10 of us went to Hon's and managed to get in and out in under an hour...! The waitresses, donned in fashion-forward yellow tees emblazened with Hon's name, carry these amazing wireless contraptions that they punch your order into.  The order is then sent to the kitchen and before you can blink (almost literally!) your food is at the table.  It couldn't be more efficient if they had rollerskates on.  The food is decent and cheap and... did I mention the service?!

I wish I had read the reviews of this Hon's before I ate there. I didn't realize the disparity in ratings between the Keefer St and Robson locations. Well giving this place 1 star is being generous. I went there with my girlfriend and we were both starved. We came away feeling more ill than satiated. First our waitress was extremely dismissive. She seemed to be paying so little attention that we were very careful to emphasize several times what we were ordering and point to the item on the menu. Well surprise surprise they gave us the wrong order. When I had them take it back the waitress came out and actually tried to argue with me in Chinese (she thought I was Chinese; I'm not) that the shrimp dish they gave me was actually the chicken dish I had ordered! This particular waitress was very rude to us, almost throwing our saucers on the table from a distance.  There was actually only 1 waitress there who seemed to actually smile at customers and say "thank you" above a barely audible whisper. Then they brought out the chicken dish. I have never tasted chicken like this. It was rubbery, almost as if it were undercooked. I told my girlfriend it was not worth salmonella poisoning to try to eat it, even though she was starved. The dish was supposed to come with noodles. When I asked about rice or noodles they denied it came with any. That's absurd! Who eats stirfried chicken without any rice or noodles with it. The roast pork dish I ordered came with rice that had a very chemical aroma and taste, unlike any rice I've ever eaten. When I went to pay the bill they had charged me incorrectly for the shrimp dish. Also I was miffed that  the rice which should have been included was not free, and refills on the soda are not free.  I felt bad even bringing up all this to them because normally we are not fussy customers. We just expect to receive adequate service, palatable food, the correct order, and be billed correctly. I would say that this place failed on all accounts.

We came here because the Hon's in SF is semi famous for their won ton noodle which is supposed to come from the Hon's in Vancouver. So the won tons are fine but not special. The noodles have a very heavy fish sauce base  which is very dependent on taste. I didn't mind it but I didn't think it was special either. The congee with fish was good but the congee with char siu wasn't as good. The char siu was very tough. We liked the gyoza.
