We have been eating at Hon's since the mid 90s.  The fact that we go back again and again (through a couple of management changes) is a testament to its longevity and consistency.

We usually order the pan fried chicken potstickers - excellent
the crispy fried noodles - amazing but dont doggie bag well.
the chicken with pepper and vegies -  very good
cod with spicy rock salt - not on the menu but very good indeed.

In the last couple of years as the popularity has waned (mostly due to to newer restaurants populating Richmond), the service has improved.

This restaurant gets 4 stars for food and 7 stars for value and consistency.

Ok I love Wun Tun.  I grew up with Hons when I was a kid when they had their old place on Main st.  My dad used to be their doctor many years ago.  I remember their food back then and it brings back memories of eating there with my father after school.  Richmond is my favourite location.
Whenever we have friends from Japan come over we bring them here to introduce them to good cheap food.  They love it!

Hon's has been around for many years, in fact over 30!

It may have been an award winning restaurant that provided cutting edge Chinese fare years ago, but in that time there have been many other restaurants that have sprouted up.

Don't get me wrong, it still provides great bang for buck food however there are still plenty of tastier places.

They are known for their dumplings and pot stickers which continue to taste the same and as they continue expanding all locations keep the same taste.

Service is direct and no nonsense and quick!

When I visit the Vancouver BC area, I'm always aiming to have dim sum for lunch and sushi for dinner. But when I went to the place that I wanted to go on a Monday evening for sushi, I was disappointed... because it was closed. SOL.

So we drove to Richmond again after we had already been in the area for lunch and picked Hon's Wun-Tun House. The menu seemed familiar and I recalled having been to the location on Robson Street a few years ago.

We ordered random dishes, some vegetarian because my aunty doesn't eat meat. I really wanted a place of roasted duck and some sweet and sour fish. The duck was definitely the best part, we also ordered some noodles and the signature dumplings that were feature as a special. I hated the dumplings, I don't know if it was because they were vegetarian ones or because they were just plain bad. The noodles were really tasty but not the sauce. The texture of the noodles was very chewy, my favorite.

But all in all, I would probably try their other noodle dishes since that's what they're known for. The roasted duck was definitely delish but I would skip out on the dumplings, nothing to write home about there.

The McDonald's of Chinese food...  We got  a dozen pork potstickers and bowl of wonton hor fun to share and a papaya smoothie.  We were originally going to order 6 potstickers but the waitress told us about their anniversary special on the potstickers.  A dozen for under $4.  Which was cheaper than the 1/2 dozen price.  Thank you!  Food came out quickly and we were on our way.   Yum yum

I went to Hon's in Richmond today and I thought I knew what I was in  for but was surprised that the pork potstickers today had 2x more meat in them than the past several times I have been here or any other Hon's. I use to say that they seem to be cutting back on their fillings and now it's like eating the dumpling skins alone. Those days are hopefully gone. They even had an Anniversary special on them, about $3.69 for a dozen. Had deep fried chicken with a black pepper sauce and steamed broccoli that was delicious $9.50 and my friend had wonton and fishball with wide egg noodles (extra Noodles). 2 steam rice. We liked the chicken so much we ordered another chicken. I also had a Okanagan Spring beer for $3.50. Today was a 4 star day for them. I can't say that this will continue as we will have to wait until the next visit.

I might be the wrong person to review Hon's, as I didn't even order their signature dishes. I'm not much of a meat-eater, so I couldn't order like 95% of the menu. I got the Buddhist's [sic] feast noodle stir-fry and vegetarian wontons. The wontons were unremarkable, and the noodle stir-fry was only good once I added a ton of soy sauce and chili paste. I guess "vegetarian" means "bland" at Hon's.

    Finally ... Closed.
Poster on the front door says "Renovation".  All Hon's signs are removed from the building.  If Hon's Richmond location is closed for real, they really deserve and earn it.  RIP.
