Review from Ron B.

We took our family of 10 for dinner tonight. We have been many times before and always enjoyed our meal. Tonight was no exception with very good food and equally good service. First timers should not be fooled by the dingy looking front entrance. Inside is clean and friendly.

I have to say, we keep returning almost every other week or so and the quality of the sushi here is top notch. I don't think I've ever had better. The sashimi is amazing, the wild salmon melts in my mouth and the tuna tataki is excellent. I love their seaweed salad as well. The roll with kiwi fruit on it is so wonderful!

Honjin has changed ownership in the last few months. They've improved the interior with some renovations; however the quality of food has deteriorated significantly. Staff has been replaced with an all Chinese crew, which never bodes well if you're in search of authentic Japanese food.
The quality of the sushi we ordered tonight was terrible. The salmon was unflavorful, Hamachi was rubbery. The assorted sushi and chirashi contained very cheap fish, and poor quality ones at that.
Honjin used to be one of the best Japanese restaurants on the North Shore, but given the recent changes we're not likely to go back -
Review from Allen C.
Came here again and ordered a sushi roll set. There was nothing out of the ordinary. Just a typical maki set tuna and salmon roll and a couple of sashimis on the side. I am giving it one more star this time just because the service was extremely prompt and was asked almost three times for a tea refill and the food came out really quickly. Oh and this time, they seated us in a booth rather than their extremely tight enclosed rooms. It gets claustrophobic in there. Ask for a booth when you come here

This is one of my two favourite Japanese restaurants. This place makes the BEST tuna tatakis! It's SO delicious :-) If you drop by here, you should definitely order it. And if you don't, you're gonna miss out on their best dish imo. I also recommend their North Shore roll and caterpillar roll. Their regular rolls (like chopped scallop and spicy tuna) are very good as well. I don't normally eat anything else than rolls/sashimi/sushi at Japanese restaurants (and Honjin's been always very fresh every time I've gone) but my brother had their Oyako don the last time we went there and he seemed to like it a lot (but he pretty much likes everything he eats).
The prices are pretty good, too. It's not dirt cheap, but it's not super expensive, either.Listed in: My Top Favs

I was visiting the North Shore for a conference, and I wanted to see what local eateries were in place near our hotel, since we'd just landed and were too tired to do much else. It's very close to the shore.
Decor is traditional Japanese, with each booth a baby pagoda, which was kind of nice. It's a very small place so it's not meant for big parties. I ordered one of their dinner specials, a squid salad, along with assorted sashimi. My husband ordered salmon sashimi. Being from Alberta, we were amazed at the value for the portion sizes and quality of fish. I was amazed at the softness of the squid, which was lightly coated with a crispy outside. It was super tasty!
There are many tasty places for sushi in Vancouver and we've tried several, but if you're over at the North Shore, I would recommend Honjin for its high quality cuts -- especially if you're looking for sushi and sashimi, not just cooked Japanese food. Fairly priced, as well (not the cheapest, but not expensive). -

Really good sushi place. Very authentic. I used to go more often and they had a deaf waitress who would read lips and always get your order right. She wasn't there last night. If I wasn't still full from my afternoon pub snacks that I had during the hockey game, I would have had a lot more from the menu but could only eat a few things. What I did have was pretty good except for the mango on the sunshine roll was very unripe and hard. Not tasty. They also lose half a star for the service which was lacking in the excellence I remember from before.
They did, however, open up the two divided enclosed areas to make it into one to accomodate the 5 adults and one baby with carrier we had in our party. All in all it was a pretty good time.Listed in: Sushi Yum

HUGE lunch specials from 8.95-11.95. I had leftovers for dinner it was so much! Soup, salad, 5 piece nigiri, tempura. Very fresh and good value
I have only gotten take out, so can't comment on service, but 5 stars on food! -

Honjin in North Van is hands-down my fave sushi in all of Vancouver! Their "Sushi Shooter" is at least 400% more delicious than it sounds, and I find myself craving one as I type this!
I'd say it's reasonably priced for the quality and the atmosphere -- the service has never knocked my socks off, but it's effective enough and straight to the point. -

I mostly come to Hon Jin on Lonsdale for the lunch specials. B-man and I can eat a really decent lunch for about $16 for 2. The "Sushi" lunch special comes with miso soup, 4 pieces of sushi and a small salad and tempura! damned good. the spicy agadashi tofu is the best. I've eaten various dinners here as well and always left satisfied. There are too few good places to eat in North Van....this one is better then good.

My husband and I were looking for a Sushi place while in N. Vancouver and took the advice of the reviewers from Yelp and tried this place out. It was excellent. Inexpensive prices and agree that the Sushi Shooters were Deee-licious!! Wish I could find a place in Austin TX to make those Sushi Shooters. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting N. Vancouver area!!

One of the better sushi restaurants in North Van. This small yet quaint restaurant offers authentic and fresh food at a reasonable price. The quality of sushi and the friendly staff will definitely have me coming back. Like the other reviewers suggested, the "Sushi Shooter" is a must if you're ever there. This is a great place to go if you want good sushi, great service at reasonable prices.

The quality of the fish at Honjin is really good. Their rolls aren't as large as many places and are slightly more expensive. I love their spicy sauce! Their sushi shooters are popular too and worth trying at least once.
