LOVEEE this place, it's so homey and what a great way to reward yourself after a hike or kayak at Deep Cove. On a beautiful morning or afternoon.. how nice! There's nothing else worth eating neaby, honestly.
Their doughnut is a crosstreet between traditional doughnut and a pound cake.
One is enough, I was greedy to buy 2 the first time, I couldn't finish them. And stick with the plain, the chocolate is not worth it. -

Why is every single employee here just plain rude? From the cashier to the wait staff right down to the bussers. Was here for lunch on Easter Monday & the place was about 65% capacity. Ordered a salad and politely asked them to get dressing on the side and the wait staff rudely shouts out over cashier's shoulder and interrupts, "The dressing is ALWAYS in the side", then rolls her eyes. Whoa...rudeness #1 was not necessary.
Then came the server who rudely plops cup of coffee down at table then scurries off. I walk back in with coffee to get cream and sugar when clearly the cream/milk was not there as they were filling them up in the back. I returned 5 mins later and did not see the creamers & asked politely where they were. Rude staffer #2 yells at me like I'm retarded saying it's 'there' pointing to nothing in front of my face. I then turn around and see the creamers were still sitting behind the cashier area as clearly they were re-filled but the staffer didn't bother to put them back out by the coffee area.
Then there was the rude staffer/busser #3. After finishing my salad and coffee, I kindly helped her clean up the table and stacked up the used utensils, napkins and plate/cup and handed it to her to make her life easier, I looked at her and smiled, "Hope this helps", she didn't even look at me and rudely snickered at me.
Wow, this place is crawling with rude staff and for this reason, I will never return. I never play the race card ever, but being a visible minority, I kinda got the feeling I was being treated differently than the rest of the folks just from my general observation. I definitely did see a discrepancy in service. I guess back over the bridge i go - back to Riley Park/Mt. pleasant - where everyone is warm & fuzzy. There's no place like home... -

Unless I bought the wrong doughnut that they're famous for, I'm still going to go back!
It's not exactly the light, puffy ones like at Lee's on Granville Island, but nevertheless, still tasty, not too sweet but it's more like a cake, with its awesome crunchy edges.
Probably not enough sweet lol.
I did ask for the famous one so i guess this is it. Just didn't see the sugar frosting/coating that I prefer... -

Well I've tried to have these twice but they keep weird hours, 6am to 5 pm. So unless you live near or get off work before 5 you won't get one in the evening, instead you'll have to go next door to Gelato Express and have some awesome ice cream.

Man oh man. Their doughnuts are famous for a reason! Next time I'll stick to the honey glaze as I'm not a huge fan of frosting anyways. :) I'll also probably buy one for the hike up to Querry Rock and eat it while I enjoy the gorgeous view. Back to the restaurant; the staff aren't the friendliest (so just take your food and run), the baked good selections look amazing. We had their breakfast (eggs, toast, bacon, potatoes), and it was pretty average.

Had breakfast there... kinda overpriced and the service.. well there was none. The food was ok but for the money I could have gotten better elsewhere. However it was the only place open in the Cove for breakfast.

MMMMMMMMMMMM! Such a fab childhood memory!!!
Revisited in adulthood, you must fight with guilt at the obscene caloric intake per bite of deliciousness... but OMG yum!!!
It wasn't quite the same as I remember, as others have said, but still worth a visit if you're there!
I would recommend that Honey's check out Toronto's Tiny Tom for expansion ideas!

More of a 2.5 star review, comparing it to what it used to be.
The very first time (quite some time ago) I tried the doughnuts from this place I was amazed! It was nice and cakey, with a light glaze.
It must have changed owners, and I am certain of it. It used to be run by an Indian guy. I don't see him there anymore, but instead it looks like Mexicans or Latinos now run the place.
The doughnuts are not quite the same. They are not as cakey anymore but a bit chewy in texture, if I can use that term.
Oh well...... -
Review from Eva Z.
Doooooughnuts! These are real deep fried, heavy batter doughnuts, not the airy, cotton like ones from dunkin doughnuts. They come in three flavors, Maple, Chocolate and Honey Glazed, and wow were these good. I was shocked to find they are about $1,50 or so per piece.
My favorite was honey glazed, it had a perfectly crispy skin on the outside, covered with a thin glaze of honey. While this dough is heavy, it still melts in your mouth. I'm drooling as I reminisce.
Take them to go and enjoy them by the water, overlooking the mountain range. -

My friend was raving about this place and it's honey doughnuts. I was looking forward to it but they ran out and were making a new batch - there was a 30 minutes wait. I figured that the chocolate donut would be close but it was terrible. We had breakfast there and I was totally disappointed by the whole experience. I ordered the eggs and bacon breakfast sandwich with the potato bread! I was excited to experience this potato bread and... it was nothing but a stale piece of bread. I guess I gave it an extra star because I was hungry. If you miss out on this place, don't worry you didn't miss out on much. I didn't even bother with the honey doughnut. There was a 15 minute wait after we were done. No regrets.

If you have a car while visiting Vancouver it's worth the drive to Deep Cove and have a honey glazed donut. One of the best we've ever had!

Review from Joanna F.
My cousin took me here while I was vacationing in Van. She swore up and down that they had the best doughnuts in the world. It's a cute little place located in a small shopping/tourist area.
The honey doughnuts were good. (Not thinking about how much calories I ate while enjoying the fried dough.) The honey glaze permeated through the top of the doughnut, and you can taste it with each bite. I ate it with a cup of coffee. I also tried the maple glazed doughnut, but the glaze was too rich and sweet for me.
I also bought a loaf of potato bread, because I really like potato bread. It wasn't too bad. I would have liked it if it was a little sweeter. -

3.5 STARS. Cute Location. Funky small, tight interior. Quaint and smallish patio. Good coffee. Great Food. Portions Average. No Extras. Very Pricey$$$. Fun place to visit. Pretty good for Deep Cove. Cheers.

Grabbed a quick lunch here before heading out to kayak. Everything was good but a little pricey.
We had BLT, Tuna Melt, Grilled Cheese and coffee. Bread was delicious. Everything was fresh. Nice outside seating. -

The first word here should be "doughnuts" or the cheap soy milk for which they charge extra but all I can think about was the BATHROOM. I'm glad I went to it as we were leaving and not when we arrived because I would otherwise not have ordered anything. It was filthy, had graffiti on the door and used paper towels all over the small room. I am not one of those people who wears white gloves when eating out but this was worse than some small town bus station bathrooms. Making an effort to move on:
the owner and cohort who were taking orders at the counter and processing payments were absolutely emotionless. Their flat voices, without the most basic of greetings, suggested that we were all just debit cards on legs. The interior is much more rundown than what the owners might think is just funky and weathered. Those doughnuts looked tempting but I saw more time in the gym in my future so I resisted. With their prices more on par with those of downtown than this fairly out the way area, it quickly struck me that Deep Cove needs a spacious cafe with friendly service and comfortable chairs in which to linger. How could they not even bother to cover up graffiti inside?? -

The location is great, and the place is quaint. I have been going to Deep Cove for 15 years, and the service here has gone downhill. The staff are unfriendly and stressed it seems, ALL THE TIME. Nobody in that place seems happy at all. The food is quite good though. I've had a number of sandwiches, soups, etc...
The coffee has always been god-awful. Don't expect anything resembling a anything better than a starbucks latte ... actually they are not even as good as starbucks which is not saying much. If you appreciate coffee, save your money and get a drip coffee. Actually... you'd be hard pressed to find a good espresso in deep cove. You have to go up to Calvin's café on Mt Seymour if you really want an espresso or latte. -

Been hearing about this place for serving the world's best doughnuts.
Ok, I agree, it is definitely better than any doughnuts that I've tried. I'm not big on doughnuts but these ones are definitely lighter and the texture is better that the ones from Tim Horton's, and definitely not as sweet as the Krispy Creme ones.
It was a treat and I would come back to this place for people watching and just enjoying the Deep Cove community. Their soup was pretty decent as well.
I may have rated the Doughnuts 4 stars but overall, I must rounded their stars down to 3 stars for their service. The waitresses I encountered that day were not that pleasant and I had to wait a long time for a paper bag to pack up my doughnut to go. It just strikes me that the people working there lack the friendliness you would expect from a local coffee place. -

WHY OH WHY do you have to be so far away from me. I don't know if I can go on without your Honey glazed rolly polly doughnuts!
So picture it, two gays, two cops, and a doughnut shop... wait is this the beginning of a bad sitcom? anyways I digress, and yes there were actually two cops ordering doughnuts in front of us, I believed it to only be an urban legend but yes it does happen... in deep cove.
We ordered two of their honey glazed doughnuts and devoured them in no time flat. I had heard they were good, but had no idea HOW good! If anyone else out there has tried these doughnuts I want to hear your thots, maybe we can start some sort of a black ring of rolly polly's.... or a weekly tour bus, to get these sweet balls of dough....Listed in: Hot spots to eat in Vancouver!

Honey's doughnuts are almost reason enough to get fat again...OMG....crispy and sweet on the outside and warm and doughy on the inside...they're the stuff dreams are made of...let me put it this way...if the Pillsbury Dough boy had wet dreams..it would be of these amazing creations...
I have yet to order anything else..but the menu looks pretty good..a selection of sandwiches and soups...great breakfast offerings..I did see some of the plates come out of the kitchen and the portions were great and the food looked pretty yummy...the Americano I had to go with the doughnut of my dreams was also pretty darn good.
The place itself is cute, quaint...like a small town diner time forgot...
Deep Cove may me a bit of a jaunt for some but sooo worth the car ride...take off on a sunny Sunday morning..enjoy the ride..get a coffee and Honey doughnut and take a stroll through the park....*sigh...heaven... -

This may be sacrilege to some, but I really don't like Honey's doughnuts. They are just way too big and thick and cake-y for my liking. Maybe the chocolate-covered ones are okay, even delicious, once in a while. What I really like though, are the muffins. Unlike a doughnut, which should be easy to devour, muffins can, and should be huge, exploding out of their muffinly corsets. Honey's blueberry muffins have a magical sprinkling of oats and sugar on top, and they're perfect for taking with me to the park, because good luck finding a seat in here.
Even though Honey's has expanded into the storefronts on two sides of its original self, the place is still always packed, especially on weekends. So yes, by all means go, but if you find you don't care for the famous doughnuts, please know you're not alone. There's plenty to love on the menu, including the French toast and the coffee.Listed in: North Shore Eats, Fall into Deep Cove

Coffee was good but the honey glazed doughnut was amazing. Rich and on the cake-side of doughnut world it was like putting a punch of sugar in the mouth.

Review from Roanna Z.
I know this place is some sort of cultish icon, and YES those "doughnuts" are everything they say they are.
well, here it is:
Smells so good I nearly lost my mind but not enough not to realize that one doughnut is probably full of more oil and sugar than any human should consume in a whole day wrapped up in ONE doughnut!
But never mind those pesky nutrients, who needs those! I ordered a cappuccino, to help break down the oil but it was so bitter I could barely drink it. The woman who manages the place has a reputation for being mean. (Think "soup nazi" from Seinfeldt. -she's bitter like the coffee)
But maybe we'd all be if we had to deal with the swarms of people every day addicted to our product.
Anyways, you have to try it at least once, it's true. They are to die for. literally. Especially in my case.
If only they could make 'em with a non glutenous flour and no dairy. Yeah right.

Update: July 15th. I got a Mocha by accident instead of a Latte and I was like "wow! -why is this so goooood?" So while all my Wheat-eating buddies are torturing me with their doughnuts, I'll have my Mocha to ride on. woo-hoo! I practically ran up Mt Seymour ! -
Review from Reena M.
I have to agree with Roanna that there "is probably more oil and sugar than any human should consume in a whole day wrapped up in ONE doughnut." However, I had to try it. One of my friends biked all the way from Marpole area in Vancouver (near 41st and Oak) to Deep Cove JUST for one of those doughnuts (although, in retrospect, that bike ride probably warrants a honey doughnut). I drove there, so I'll need to work extra hard at boot camp to burn off those pesky empty calories.
The doughnuts were good. Nice and warm. But the grease did get to us. It was nice and crispy and not too sweet. I agree with the others that if they were cold, it wouldn't be as good. And the cupcakes they had weren't so good. So, that being said, I don't think I would come back here, simply because Deep Cove is out of my way, and I REALLY don't need doughnuts in general. But it was good to try once and see what all the rave was about. -

D'oooohnuts! best honey donuts ever. A great reason to hike up to the Lookout and back, Honey's donuts are a great post-hike treat. Best to get 'em when they're fresh and high turnover - aka the weekend, before 3pm. After that, things die down and the donuts don't have that sinful yet heavenly crispy-moist-honeysoaked goodness. coffee is terrible there, always go for an espresso-based drink, they have a decent bar machine there.
i'd like to say i've tried something other than their honey donuts in the 5 times i've been there (in the last 4 months), but i haven't.
but they're that good. tip: take one for the road, it will be colder and a bit dried out, but you can savor the smell all the way home, and win points with your roommates for bringing back a farflung treat! -

The BEST donuts we've ever had! We got to sample one when we went on a kayaking tour and the tourguide whipped out a bag of donuts to pass around and when we got to shore, we went straight to Honey's and got a half dozen for myself and the hubby. I'll admit we had a couple left over to eat the next morning and they were still as good...doughy, sugary, and crispy on the edges.
To the fellow yelpers who complain of the 'grease' - don't ruin it for the rest of us who'd just like to ignorantly revel in the goodness enjoyed by our taste buds. Worth every new bump of cellulite.
We emailed them and asked if they would sell us the recipe. They had a sense of humor and told us that they'd have to kill us if they did. At least I think they were kidding. -

This is absolutely an incomplete review. I know that this place is a monument in the Deep Cove community and a visit is sure to get you a friendly welcome and some very pleasant chat with other patrons. You will quickly come to realize just how many people here know each other and have been coming here for years.
You'll learn from them just what makes Honeys so good as you do what most tourists do; bite into your doughnut.
So I will base my review on the doughnut and iced coffee.
Doughnut: fat, heavy, oily, sweet, traditional, classic. It is unlike anything else you've had and likely something you wouldn't want to eat more than one of.
Iced Americano: This is not a good choice. Unless I missed it no cafe should ever served iced coffee drinks if they do not have liquid sugar. I may have missed it as this was a very busy day in the shop so I will let this slide. Besides, I've had regular coffee there and it was fantastic.
Location: Excellent with a great patio on the strip.
Would I go back? Absolutely, anytime I'm in Deep Cove. Though next time I'll grab one of their sandwiches. -
Review from Dani B.
Best homeade doughnuts ever period.
My boyfriend was raised a block from this place and if I spent anymore time in Deep Cove, I woulc probably gain 20 pounds from eating these things, they are that good. There bagels and sandwiches are really good too, but I'll keep the focus on the speciality of the house
I like the honey glazed ones, no need to put sprinkles or chocolate on mine. They are big, gooey, and they must put something illegal in them because they are just too good to be true. No no, I joke, i'm sure they use all natural ingredients and good for them, doughnuts are bad enough for you.
If you don't want to feel too guilty for having one, hike to Corey Rock after, it's not to challenging of a hike but it will make you sweat a bit. Plus, the view from the top make the whole thing worth it. -

Seriously the most amazing doughnut you can ever sink your teeth into. Its lightly sweetened with honey, enough that you taste it, but its not overpowering. Its crispy on the outside and soft and crumbly on the inside. Its very dense - almost like eating a cake, but oh so much better. Its even better after a couple hours out on the water kayaking. Delicious!
I also ordered their BLT which was good, but nothing special. The doughnut definitely stole the show. Will be back if I'm in the area! Yummy! -
Review from Stewart B.
I'm the sort of person that will sometimes stop for 'Hot Now' at KK but I can't say I love 'em like I did 10 years ago.
I prefer glaze to chocolate or sugar or sprinkles or anything and else and definitely sour cream or cake style to "plain" with low end donuts, but don't like low end donuts much in the first place.
I just had the Honey ones for the first time and they are my new favorites (I just got the plain glaze ones which are halfway between the texture of standard cake and sour cream to my tastes and light on the glaze). Absolutely amazing.
The cooking in small batches thing is great (hot 'n' fresh) except there is a downside: when we tried to go back for seconds there was a waiting list for the next batch and a 15-20 minute wait.
Would go all the way to Deep Cove again just to have these (and as an aside, the fish and chips place next store was surprisingly good - had low expectations going in, but it was great). -

Fan of their location and selection, not so much on the doughnuts.
A couple years ago, I begged my then boyfriend to take me to Honey's because according to the local newspaper their doughnuts are #38 out of the top 100 things to try in BC. So we made like Ben Affleck (apparently a regular whenever he's in town) and drove to deep cove. The location is beautiful and I love how they have set up the place, but the doughnuts were just ok. I didn't like the chocolate-covered one at all (too much going on). Honey-glazed is the way to go, but still it was just too big and bready for my liking.
I would definitely go back to Honey's to enjoy the atmosphere and perhaps some of their other goodies, but I'll pass on #38. -

I often go to Deep Cove when the sun is shining and during my last visit I stumbled accross Honey Doughnuts and Goodies. I hadn't heard of this place so I didn't have any expectations at all. It was very busy but we found a table outside and went in to order which took about 5 minutes. I had the veg sandwich and my partner had the beef sandwich both were spot on and so fresh, the bread was superb!!! As we were eating our sandwiches we kept seeing doughnut after doughnut appear on nearby tables and boy do I wish we ordered one as they looked to die for. I'll just have to make another trip back to try one :)

Absolutely the best donut I've ever had. If you prefer the lighter Krispy Kreme variety this may not be for you... but if you're like me and you harbor a deep twisted appreciation for a heart attack on a plate, dig right in. Just don't plan to eat again that day, keep a set of jumper cables on your nightstand just in case, and you'll be just fine.

Review from Eric F.
2 stars, maybe 1-1/2. Here's why:
Donuts: Quite poor. Too large, and the texture is totally off --they're way too bready. The maple donut has a pretty standard icing (I've had better) and the honey donut was greasy, greasy, greasy! I ate half my donut and threw the other half away; one other person in our party did the same. This is not a good sign.
Coffee: Can only speak about the drip coffee, which was terrible. The beans tasted burnt, and was further kind of concentrated-residue-ish in flavour, almost as if the coffee had been sitting around all day on a hot plate. This was in part at least not possible, since it was in an insulated dispenser tank; it's probably also unlikely that the coffee had been in there more than a couple of hours as there were plenty of customers, and it was early in the afternoon. I drank less than half of my coffee before throwing it out, it was that bad.
Service: Somewhat gruff. A well-placed smile every now and then never hurt anyone.
The plus side of this place is that it's in a beautiful location, but I don't think I'd exactly recommend anyone to stop in there for a donut while they're in Deep Cove. -

I gave Honey's another chance and had a much nicer experience. I ordered an iced Americano and a donut and a muffin to go. The waitress was pleasant and even asked me about packaging the donuts and muffin separately.
The muffin was fine and the Americano was good. I'm told the donut was fine too!
Maybe the secret is to go there when the weather is nice and everyone is in a better mood.1 Previous Review: Show all »
