Review from Carrie H.
We had a great stay here. The room was bright and clean. We got a double queen room for my little family of four. I was very please with the size of the bathroom. I normally end up in hotels with bathrooms so small you that the door barely clears the toilet, this room didn't have that problem. The staff was professional. I also liked the security of the parking garage. They close the metal gate like a garage door and one must have a room key or contact the front desk during sleeping hours overnight.
The ONLY reason they failed to earn the fifth star was lack of luggage carts at the very end of our stay! The front desk informed me the ONE cart they have was currently in use by a guest who simple left their luggage here prior to the time for them to get a room. The hotel should have the second cart for situations EXACTLY like this. It's hard to believe a hotel with this many guest rooms doesn't have more than one available cart? -

We started on a good note - since we had mentioned that it was our 45th wedding anniversary -they upgraded our room to a King size bed - giving a 5 star rating.
The next day it started going downhill when we received a call from our bank that they have put a hold on our card since it appears there is fraud going on - but in talking to them - for considerable time - we realized the Holiday Inn ran our credit card number twice - apparently at some point realizing their mistake and cancelling one of the charges. We now had to spend some time on the phone with the bank proving all was OK - instead of having an enjoyable day - and this continued until the next day.
When we got back to the hotel, there was a problem with the receipt they were supposed to attach to the bill - it was missing - staple hole still there but no receipt. It took them 2 days to figure this out.
On the last night following other billing issues the sympatric clerk offered to "comp" a movie. We also settled our bill and were told the paid receipt would be under our door in the morning so we could just leave - yes I still haven't learned and we actually believed her.
Are you getting the idea where this is going - they did not put the bill under the door and she did not "comp" our movie - so we had the movie on our bill - who didn't see that coming? Finally after explaining the situation - so much for a fast checkout -they removed the movie charge and we hurriedly got out.
The rooms are overall nice but the air condition system has one setting - instant cool LOL. The fan has only a high speed setting which is nice except when it is on the air is blowing right at you.
Also - if you are a light sleeper - the Sky tram runs around every 2 -5 minutes (two way travel so there are a lot of them) and you can hear them all day and into the night.
Next - if you are going into Vancouver - it really is not convenient. Yes the Sky tram is right there and takes you into the heart of town -but for Stanley Park and other attractions, you will go nuts with all the traffic lights between the hotel and downtown.
Finally - knowledgeable people at the desk hah. We asked the lady one morning what is the best way to get to the main road heading north and she replied, "How would I know - I don't drive". Huh perhaps if customers drove they would realize there are much better choices around. -
Review from Jon J.
The hotel was very comfortable and felt nice and modern. Before I booked the room, I'd read other reviews where people said the building was remodeled, but still felt like it was from the 70's on the inside. I didn't really get this feeling at all and neither did the girlfriend.
We booked a room with a queen size bed. The room felt a little bit small, but since we only used the room to sleep and were otherwise gone all day, it didn't really matter. The bed was really comfortable, but what was great was the bathroom. The shower felt great and refreshing and the bathroom had ample space.
Another great thing was the free breakfast. It had lots of variety including Yoplait yogurt, english muffins, freshly made eggs and hash browns, fruit and some other stuff. This was a nice surprise since most free hotel breakfasts just consist of Rice Krispies cereal and warm milk that's been sitting out. Granted, the quality wasn't like something you'd get at a real restaurant, but if you want to eat quickly and be on your way, plus not spend a fortune on breakfast, it's definitely a plus.
I would have given the hotel 4 stars, but it is kind of out in the sticks a little bit. The drive into Vancouver and other touristy spots like Stanley Park isn't bad at all, but since we were only in town for the weekend, the commute back and forth took up a lot of valuable time. Plus if you get tired in the early evening and want to rest at the hotel for a little bit, it would be a pain in the rear end to drive back to HIE from Vancouver, rest for a little bit, and then drive all the way back to Vancouver. We had planned to do this, but by the time we were feeling rejuvenated again, we didn't feel like making the long drive back into town and decided to call it a night... kind of a shame when you're on vacation and want to discover a new city...
