I don't usually review chain establishments unless I have a particularly bad experience, but this experience was so positive I felt I had to.

My parents and I were planning on an overnight stay in Vancouver to gorge on some delicious, delicious Chinese food and make a couple stops along the way. Alas, that was not to be. At 11:30 p.m., just after we crossed the border, our rental car stalled. We called the front desk to let them know we were going to be late, and they were very sympathetic and helpful to the point where they even looked up the garage where we were having our car towed to find out how far away it was.

When we got to the actual hotel, the lobby was immaculate. Even at midnight, there was fresh coffee in the lobby, and unlike at other chain hotels, the coffee was actually really good. The room was just as comfortable and spotlessly clean, and as an added bonus, the toiletries smelled *amazing*. They provide wi-fi, cable, and lots of outlets.

The breakfast was your standard continental breakfast with yogurt, pancakes, sausages, eggs, pastries and juice, but everything was fresh and fairly good quality, as opposed to the usual sad, dried out looking hotel breakfasts.

My experience here was on par with visiting my parents' Holiday Inn Express in Bothell, WA, so this is the chain I'll be trusting from now on when I travel. (stay away from Residence Inn-Marriott!)

If you want to get away from the kids, or just have some alone time with your sweetheart, then why not the Holiday Inn Express.  Snuggle between the sheets and order in Pizza?

Yeah, I know. It's the Holiday Inn.

BUT, I was pleasantly surprised when I spent a night here on an unexpected overnight trip to Vancouver on New Year's.

    Hotel Room
There is a flat screen TV in which you get cable for free (and yes, you get Canada's version of ESPN and even Seattle news channels) and a selection of per per view movies.

There is also an iPod/iPhone alarm clock charging station located right next to the bed on the nightstand. I loved this.

    Beds
The beds were really comfortable and more comfortable than the bed I slept on at another 4 star hotel in Vancouver! Weird, but an awesome surprise. There are 2 pillows in which one is firm and the other is soft so you can choose whatever suits your preference. These little details are nice after a long drive or flight.

    Shower/Bathroom
There is an abundance of hot water and they have quality water saving shower heads that actually have water pressure and lots of water. Some budget hotels have water saving shower heads but they seem TOO water saving to the point that you just get a cold mist - not at this Holiday Inn! I was also able to take a shower and a bath and there was still hot water left for my boyfriend to take a shower right after wards. They have coffee/tea and a coffee maker and mugs in the bathroom as well. The coffee is rain forest safe which is totally rad! They also have the usual shampoo/conditioner/soap/shower cap mini bottles.

    Breakfast
The Holiday Inn here actually has a really great free breakfast each morning. They had a huge selection of breakfast foods ranging from breads to fruits (banana, apples, etc.), bacon strips and sausages to a variety of cereal, orange juice/milk/tea/coffee, hard boiled eggs, etc. If you're a vegan or have a restricted diet, you'll get by on fruits and tea here. They have no soy milk and no non-meat breakfast foods.

    Wi-Fi
I actually cheered in the lobby when I was told there's free Wi-Fi! You get a password with your electronic key card.

    Parking
You get free, secured (with a gate!) covered parking in a garage located below the hotel.

    Etc.
The airport is right near the Holiday Inn so you'll hear planes landing and taking off but it isn't very loud. I'm a really, really, REALLY light sleeper but I was able to get to bed quickly.

Costco is..right across the street so if you're traveling and in need of anything in bulk, you are in luck!

Richmond is also a 5-10 minute drive away (which is the main reason I stayed at this Holiday Inn) and there are tons of awesome Asian stores/restaurants to check out there as well.

I'd totally stay here again because checking in and out was easy and it's in a really convenient location - close enough to Vancouver, really close to Richmond but far away enough from Vancouver that it's cheaper and the amenities are great and in good quality.

The first big plus is the rate was $119/nite. You half to use your room key to operate the elevator which is a nice security feature after you get used to it. The free breakfast is another big plus. A great help due to the weak dollar. On the negatives is the secured parking garage has really limited parking. There is a costco next door. However, I didn't see any convenience store. I would stay here again!
