This one is one of the best HMV store in Edmonton because with its 2 floor location and being an anime fan this location is a must to visit because they have a big selection of anime and since this location is popular sometimes some of my favorite anime series get sold out really quickly. The staff are friendly and helpful to approach to get a special order on the sold out items.

Very nice HMV location! Not many places left with this much selection all in one place!..... Well, other than itunes music store that is :s

Now back in the day  A & B sound gave HMV a real run for its money but this particular shop located in Canada's favorite shopping centre or at least Canada's BIGGEST,  certainly reminds me of the mega music stores of the past.

They got a lot more stock at this location than any other HMV i have been to. If i was in the mood I could spend hours perusing through it all, alas i only frequent Edmonton an average of once every two years so my date with HMV will have to wait. Hopefully before they go the way of the wooly mammoth.....

As far as I know this is the biggest HMV in Edmonton and they do have a great selection of my favorite section of music = Heavy Metal.

I am a "metal chick" through and through, the only one I know, and I am old school when it comes to shopping for music.  I ONLY buy physical CD's, I never download anything - legally or illegally - because I know the state of the music industry and how the artists are robbed of revenue daily.  I appreciate how hard it is to create music, therefore I support my artists as much as I can by buying their music.  A CD in the hand is better than iTunes in oblivion when your computer crashes.

As someone who loves heavy metal music (American & European), I find that most record stores don't stock a good selection of this type of music.  Most stores stock the basics, overplayed discs and that's it.

But this HMV has a large selection of the obscure, heavier and progressive music that I like.  They also have a large selection of the DVD's from some of these obscure bands that are hot in Europe but not in Canada.

Some of my stuff I have to resort to Amazon or Ebay, but I will come here first to see if they have what I want knowing their large selection.

The service is good, but I find I have to do the asking, rarely does someone come up to me and ask "can I help you", but then again that could be good sometimes when I am in the mood for lengthy browsing.

They also have a huge gaming and movie selection now vs. many years ago, and that again shows you the state of the music business and the lack of revenue from that alone.  Kind of sad how this once thriving business now has to resort to selling many other products to survive before it succumbs to the digital world.

Now I am getting depressed just thinking about it.....but as a store definitely a good selection and worth checking out if you are into music, movies, concert DVD's....and now games :(

What more can I say from the other review I did about HMV?  They have a great selection of DVD's and Blu-Rays, and a huge selection of music.

The higher prices, in my opinion, are a trade off for the sheer amount of choices.

For a usually soul-less corporation, the West Ed location of HMV does keep a fairly well stocked selection of music. Anytime I am in Edmonton I like to spend about an hour browsing the shelves in search of ludicrously priced import electronic albums and their steadily improving vinyl section. The last time I visited I picked up Starkey's "Ephemeral Exhibits" for 23 dollars: quite a bit more than I could have found on an online retailer, but when you are a Touchy shopper, you need to experience the rush of finding the physical item and holding it, smiling at the cashier as they gouge you with a jacked up price.

The second floor is dedicated to DVDs, and the selection is again impressive: what I appreciate the most is the separate section for Criterion movies. It is great to sift through the selection, then put all of them back on the shelf after reconsidering paying 60 dollars for a movie, regardless of quality.

West Ed's HMV is a paradise of physical goodies, but since the company ran most of the competition out of town, they can pretty much charge what they please knowing casual buyers (probably 90% of the population) will pay whatever is asked of them. The rest of us hardcores will stick to the better outlets, thanks!

HMV has come a long way. I remember back when they used to only have CD's, actually I remember when they used to have cassette tapes. Wow that makes me sound old.. but it wasn't that long ago.. right?

Now they have music, DVDs and video games. This HMV is 2 massive floors that are covered wall to wall, floor to floor, with every CD and most DVDs you could imagine. Their DVD collection is pretty big itself but it is still growing and the music supply has pretty much reached its peak. I don't think anyone has come here and not found the CD they wanted (unless it was sold out). They even have all the popular  XBOX, Play station 3 and wii, games and consoles. It does get pretty packed on the weekend's but it gets straight up crazy during the holidays, stocking stuffer's aplenty.

They always have good deals too, like 2 for $20 bucks or 3 for $30 and they let you mix and match these deals between CD's and movies which is pretty awesome.

This particular HMV in West Edmonton Mall is the one stop shop for all your, for lack of a better word, entertainment needs

So the HMV store located in West Edmonton Mall happens to be my favorite HMV store in the whole city.  First of all it has two floors, so that means you can spend your whole day looking for great music and awesome movies.  They have a huge selection of both music and movies, if you are looking for some games and gaming systems you can also find them at HMV.  Their games are pretty expensive but they would be the same price at any other place.  The games are just expensive in general.  The prices of their CD's are okay, but some of the older hard to find CD's that aren't very popular seem to be pricier; I guess there's an example of the supply and demand theory.  Anyways, I do have to say I like their selection of movies and I like the prices on them also.  I'm a big movie buff so if I can find my favorite movies at a decent price you bet your bottom dollar I'll buy it.

The staff is pretty cool there and it helps that they know where to find what you're looking for.  They are friendly, even if they don't look like they are, and very helpful.  The one thing I'm not a big fan of is being watched like a hawk.  They must get a lot of theft in their store or something because they watch and stand by the entrances ready to search you if the alarm goes off.  Either that or the people by the entrances are greeters like at WalMart.

Anyways, sometimes they have crazy awesome prices on movie sets.  I picked up the Back To The Future trilogy for $19.99!   Oh, they even have books now.  I guess if a movie was originally based off of a book they now carry that book from that movie.  If you are like me, a person who likes to read the book before seeing the movie, then you can probably find a good book and pick up the movie at the same time, two birds with one stone kind of idea.

If you're looking for any movies or music, this has one of the best selections in town just short of the internet. They have evolved throughout the years, from vhs to dvds, from tapes to cds. They even have a section just for iPod accessories and another for the latest video games, although HMV would not be my first choice for either. They have a great selection of older dvds and boxsets, and it is usually my first (and only) stop for my boxset present shopping.

There is always a long line up during the holiday season, however the line ups go by amazingly quick. You can barely find any staffers (probably busy manning the tills), however if you do manage to grab ahold of one, they would be more than willing to help you.

This is actually the only HMV that I go into in the entire city.

This place is huge!  They have 2 floors and an escalator in the middle of the store to make your shopping experience as comfortable and effortless as possible.

I had to stop by here the week before Christmas and the place was a zoo.  But I was still able to get someone to help me.  I had a DVD on hold and the gentleman helping me couldn't find it.  He called in backup and now I had 2 guys looking for my DVD behind this tiny little counter.  They did find it (it was under the wrong letter) and I really appreciated them taking the time to go through everything - I mean everything!

I took my DVD over to the line up and, let me tell you, I was not looking forward to it.  The line was long.  To my surprise, it moved ridiculously fast!  I was out of there in no time!

I even picked up a pretty awesome book for $5 while I was in line.  It was a huge hit on Christmas morning!

This location of HMV at West Edmonton Mall is a megastore of music and video. Two floors are filled solid with CDs and DVDs - by far the best selection of any of the major chains in the city. The prices are also fantastic. In many cases you can mix and match two or three CDs or DVDs for a set price, like $20, $25, or $30. I come here mostly because the sections for folk, World Music, and Francophone are far larger than anywhere else I have been. There are placeholders for artists that you cant find anywhere else, save for maybe a specialty store. Whenever I come here, I really have to exercise self-control.

Two-storied HMV located in West Edmonton Mall is a music lover's paradise. No other music store in Edmonton carries as many CDs as does HMV. The first floor is reserved for DVDs while the second floor houses thousands of shelves filled with millions of CDs. Any album by any band in any category of music can be found here. All disks are divided by genre and are displayed in alphabetical order so that customers don't get lost in the sea (or rather ocean) of CDs. The selection of DVDs on the first level is fantastic as well. Here you will find all recent blockbusters in addition to vast selection of indie movies and occasional hard-to-find gems. The store is always buzzing with happy customers, which comes as no surprise since HMV is a one-stop shop for all your music and movies needs. Customer service representatives are happy to assist you, but they can be hard to get hold of, especially on weekends when the store is at its busiest.
