I love Hiscott's for their huge selection of wigs. They have natural and party colours in many styles. Their pricing is reasonable, but a bit on the expensive side. I usually end up ordering my wigs from http://CosplaySupplies... if I'm not in a rush.

They have a great selection of human hair and synthetic wigs (in kanekalon and toyokalon fibres), wig caps, kanekalon extensions for wefting or weaving, wig heads and styling supplies. The sales staff will help you try the wigs on.

As Kat F. mentioned, even though this is a "theatrical supplies" store there is something for the mainstream person too. They have a huge selection of false eyelashes - but I would suggest investing in a tube of Shu Uemura lash glue instead of DUO - it peels off the lashes easier so that you can re-use them.

They carry Queen Helene's Mint Julep mask (a holy grail product, with stellar reviews on MakeUp Alley). If you're in the know about quality theatrical makeup brands with staying power - Ben Nye and T. LeClerc makeup can be found here too!

The staff here are very friendly and helpful. They've seen and heard it all before, so whatever you are looking for they will try to help you find what you need.

    WORST. SERVICE. EVER.

We called in an order from Los Angeles and have it delivered to one of our talent in Toronto. I had to call several times for a receipt to be faxed and they were inefficient and outright RUDE.

The people here must be trained by someone who loathes customer service- especially JOYCE. She refused to take down my phone number and said she would only contact me via fax. I was a little puzzled by this since if they needed help, the quickest way would be by a phone call not by FAX (this is 2010 right?) She hung up on me several times and when I asked to speak to her manager she said it stopped right here and would not give me any info or help me further.

Then she continued to say she had other priorities and I was confused since I was a customer that already paid for the product. I was like wait but if I'm a customer am I not also a priority. I even gave her several names to help find the receipt but she said that was too much work. Apparently the person who trained Joyce does not like multi-tasking either.

So disappointed and appalled in the service and lack of customer commitment.

I never thought I'd be setting foot in a "theatrical supplies" store but a good friend of mine who's a makeup artist alerted me to two gems that can be found at Hiscott's:

    * Ben Nye cosmetics! As far as I know this is the only place in Toronto that sells Ben Nye products (which are often used for facepainting as they're very high quality and durable). They have all the eyeshadows and makeup bases you could possibly need. No more mail order or shady eBay dealings for this girl!

    * A collection of false eyelashes that rivals Shu Uemura or anything at Sephora (except maybe the MUFE collection). They're cheap ($3.99) and come in tons of different styles, colours and lengths. Pair them with the Duo surgical glue that you can buy at any MAC pro store and you're set - no mascara required. I bought a junkload of lashes and have been reusing them for months now. The quality is terrific.

    Closed on Sundays.

colour me a make-up dummy, but here they colour you yummy.
ok, tackerific? yes, but hear me out:

my experience today at Hiscott was the first time i've ever left a make-up counter NOT feeling anxious about colours looking right in real light.
the knowledgeable make-up artist guided me through several foundations and concealers, with a large mirror in "store-light" and then near the window, and then again. she was very patient!
of course, now i'm home typing this review out and... yep, my foundation looked good in every reflecting surface i walked by and still now, in the mirror at home.

they also have a huge selection of wigs, although they appeared kinda gaudy hanging from the wall...

nonetheless, try'er out if you've ever left with make-up goodies in tow, only to find nothing looks right when you get home or wondered what make-up artists/models/actors use.

    R. Hiscott advertises itself as a beauty and theatrical supply store and well gosh darnit that is exactly what it is.  Now you would think that these two things don't really go well together and while I think the same thing apparently the owners disagree, and they were wrong.  The store is more of a beauty supply than a theatrical one but the result is that when you are perusing high end beauty supplies all of a sudden you find a clown wig or stage make-up which is very different than real make up and off putting. Unfortunately the combination of these two styles of product give you less confidence in both.  The last thing that really got my goat,  was that you had to be accompanied by the staff to see the real wigs.  I get that these are valuable items but I am a lone wolf and I really don't like company when I'm shopping (especially wig shopping) so this definitely turned me off.  If you are a new beautician I think this is a good spot to start but once you start making money I don't think I'd keep coming back here.
