    * Average Indian buffet *

When passing through Richmond and in a rush, not willing to fight for parking in one of my usual hole-in-the-wall Chinese spots, I ended up just pulling in to the easy to park lot and grabbing a quick bite from their buffet.

There was a medium sized selection and I grabbed a little bit of everything just to taste including veggie samosa; chickpeas; cauliflower; potato and carrot; peas; yogurt curry; butter chicken; chicken curry; sliced cucumbers with raita; fresh naan (brought to your table freshly made); and a selection of Indian desserts.  Photos:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

Most of the food was about average.  The best main course dishes were definitely the curry chicken, which was the only dish that had really well balanced flavours with a nice level of heat, and the cauliflower which was slightly caramelized to the point of almost being crunchy on the outside but then stewed which provided a nice textural balance.  Among the desserts, the gulab jamun was the highlight as it was nice and warm and just the right texture balance.

I don't know that I would return anytime soon, unless I was really lazy about parking in Richmond again!

I know this place might put you off by the sight of it, but once u get past the boring decor, you'll find that the food is pretty tasty!

You can get regular menu or buffet but i think your best bet is the buffet., for only 11 dollars or so u can get a bunch of great tasting indian fast food such as beef and lamb curry, butter chicken, veggie samosa, cauliflower pakora, tandori chicken, etc.. and fresh nann bread on the fly! just don't be expecting gourmet taste. you pretty much get what you pay for, but the food is actually edible and you'll leave happy, unlike some Indian places ive been to which i will not mention......

A wonderful place for Curry in a hurry! check it out! ;)

    Curry in a hurry?!

My coworkers like to go out for lunch so we came to Himalaya for all-you-can-eat. Great price ($10) considering butter chicken as single dish can be that expensive at restaurants. AND the butter chicken is pretty good.(I was impressed with the large pieces of chicken breast). I also liked the chicken curry which was flavourful and very moist.

Otherwise Dave B and Katie F have given great reviews. Its a good option for a quick and savoury lunch for a great price. All you can eat Naan is a bit dangerous though, especially when the server brings it hot and right to your table. I left feeling like a dough-girl, but it was worth it!

This is a casual restaurant (nice size with a cafeteria type environment) with the option of ordering off the menu including curries, soups and dosas, a buffet and to-go.  They have a large selection of ready-made Indian sweets and samosas to go.

Prices are average overall on the menu but a bit higher than other similar to-go places (i.e. veggie samosas here are 75 cents each and meat ones are $1.50 each versus 50 cents/$1.00 in Vancouver's Bahai sweets).

The selection is okay and the food is average.  Service is quite friendly but slow.

If you're in the area, I'd pick Tandoori Kona (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) which is just the next parking lot over.

I was surprised at the very good food here because the little strip plaza is somewhat less-than-best, optically.

Excellent food, great service. This is a cafeteria-type buffet, for only $10. Not too (hot) spicy, which is just the way I like it, to savour the flavour.

The owners are personally there, working.

Very, very clean Punjabi Indian food.

    All you can eat.

Very bight, and on a busy intersection.

I will recommend this place for future meetups for some of the groups that I belong to.

While Himalaya does not offer anything special, Himalaya is a good option for those of us unlucky enough to work in an East Richmond hi-tech parks, which are pretty much devoid of good lunch places.

A menu is available, but a daily buffet is offered and is the best option for lunch since it's quick and cheap (approx $10 per person).  The buffet comes with the standard chocies: butter chicken, chicken curry, aloo gobi, paneer mattar, as well as some salad and indian deserts, and all you can eat naan which is tasty  -- something that's very important to me.  The items are usually steaming hot, and are refilled quickly.

Environment: The restaurant is nothing special, but is clean, open, functional, and complete with Bollywood programs on the TV.

Service is not stellar, and can be a bit slow, unless you go with the buffet -- then it's your own fault if you're not happy with the server :)
