Review from Bronwyn G.

When I went to Hill's for the first time today, I was struck by how many cute things they carried that I'd seen this year in fashion blogs & magazines. Everything from Hue & Plush fleece-lined tights, to Smart Wool & Happy Socks, to Frye & Bloch footwear.
I recommend this store for picking up on-trend accessories and getting gifts for impossible-to-buy-for teens & ladies. -

So I decided to give Hills another chance. Big mistake. Huge.
Not only are they still pushing last winter's merchandise, but my nemesis (you know... middle aged lady with the stink-eye) is still giving me the evil eye. What is with her anyway?! You, retailer. Me, customer. You, put on smile. Me, pull out wallet. Simple.
Anyway, done with Hills. Not one more cent.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I've been in here on several occasions. Even though I know better, I can't help that sometimes they have really cute windows displays that pull me in. Not ONCE has any of the staff ever greeted me. The place has more than 10 staff at any given time and they aren't usually very busy so maybe it is because I don't look trendy enough or rich enough for them. Doesn't matter, it is way too pricey for me anyway. Not interested in paying over $200 for a pair of boots that are not quality. (I know boots, I am from Texas!)

I used to drop by here quite often when I lived in the neighbourhood, but I still come here to shop occasionally. I usually wait now for their seasonal sales when I can pick up denim for 50-60% off. They have a great selection of top names like G-Star, J Lindberg, Michael Kors, Superdry, and the usual denim stars.
There are only so many places to shop for good, relatively well priced men's clothes and this is one of them. -

Once upon a time this was my go-to boutique and while I still cherish those memories, they are memories. Still a great spot to find designer apparel from KORS by Michael Kors, Splendid, Milly, 7 for all Mankind, James Perse and more. However, from the store where the Aritizia empire was built, they have fallen. Not sure who's doing the buying anymore but it has been slim pickings for those with a discerning eye for the last few years. Still a place I like to browse in, I haven't purchased anything for at least a few seasons. Carries clothing for men, women and children. The "children's" section is actually surprisingly well priced, but makes me fear having children as hemlines rise and necklines plunge. That isn't Hill's fault though; I guess that is fashion.
Still the best place to shop in Kerrisdale, but not as great as it used to be. Also, their online store has been coming soon for QUITE some time. -

My friends used to rave about Hill's all the time..I knew that it was a local "department" style clothing store that had been in Kerrisdale for ages...but I just never felt compelled to go there...once I finally did I totally understood the hype....and now I am slightly addicted...
It's not that they carry and brands that are hard to find or anything..it's just it's so gosh darn cute! It reminds me of the little clothing stores in small town Saskatchewan....the smell of an old heritage building...the mix of women's and men's clothes...shoes department....jewelery department....very old school department store...love it!! And the service is fantastic...it's one of the very few place I have shopped at that they actually suggested items for me and brought clothes to the dressing room for me to try...perfection!
The brands are the same old...Boss, Lacoste, Penguin, Puma....basically anything you would find at Ray Rickburn, Aritzia and Blue Ruby....which would make sense as all four business' are owned by the same family..the Hills...Listed in: Super Great Service.

Stopped by here for the first time last night about half an hour before closing. The staff didn't bother greeting me and I definitely didn't want to interrupt their conversations with each other.
Their stock seems to me a lot like Urban Outfitters except much more expensive (and I already thought UO was). Maybe it's because I'm on a student budget or the stuff just wasn't my taste, but I definitely didn't find anything special in that place besides the decor. Also a lot of the clothing is very loose and baggy looking (maybe that's just the style) and even though some are comparing it to Aritzia, I would choose Aritzia anyday, at least the clothes fit me well and cost cheaper than this place.
The men's section has some brands (g-star, addidas) that I noticed. It just seemed like a Boy's Co. to me.
It has a quirky and interesting layout of things but nothing that left me astonished (besides the price tags). -

Hope, BC
At first sight (and smell) I wasn't all that thrilled. The entranceway is set up with some gaudy jewellry and the place seemed kind of musty and old. I wandered in anyway, liking the track that they were playing...a fav mix of The Knife by Mylo. There was tons to look through, ranging from conservative to bohemian to surf wear. As I made my way to the women's wear in the back I started to find some sweet pieces.
I'm a big fan of stores where the clerks are paying attention enough to see that your arms are full (even more than once) and bring it all to your changeroom, as was the case here. The changerooms here were wonderful too, not cramped at all, almost decadent even with a nice big mirror once you come out. As there was a big sale on - 50% off in many cases - I left with a bag full and very little of the usual guilt that follows. -

Once upon a time, there was a girl who was always the bridesmaid, never the... oh, boo hoo. We've all heard the story before. Truth is, I don't mind always being the bridesmaid -- contrary to rumors, my married and engaged friends actually have great taste and have (thus far) not made me purchase or wear an ugly bridesmaid dress for their weddings.
Among the wedding parties I have participated in, the best was one where the bride let us wear whatever we wished, so long as it was a dress and black. So off I rushed to the only place I knew would have the perfect black dress for me to wear for the occasion -- Hill's of Kerrisdale.
Hill's, in the heart of Kerrisdale, is pretty much THE cornerstone of one of the city's most successful retail families (both Aritzia and Blue Ruby have sprung from various corners of this large store), and carries on its racks names like Kenneth Cole, Matinique, In Wear, Laundry, and Betsey Johnson. Despite the brand names, the average price point lies somewhere between the designer boutiques downtown and mass retailers like Gap. -

Aritzia + Blue Ruby + Pretty things = Hills of Kerrisdale!
I love love love Hills of Kerrisdale. It's the parent company of Aritzia and Blue Ruby, but this place carries Men's clothing too! They have many other labels beyond Aritzia - like Free People, Lacoste, Penguin, Puma, and many many others. It's large and spacious and makes shopping fun!
Please note: Be prepared to spend more than you'd like too! (but you'll be happy you did!) -

I hate to admit it but I am more than a little addicted to Hills. I think there is something to be said for carrying all these brands in a nice, easily accessible package of a store. Someone mentioned that you can get most of the same things at Aritzia, and that is probably true, but I always go for Hills for 2 reasons:
1) It is one of few clothing stores in the area and is great for a quick shop if you just need to pick something up for that night and you don't have time to go anywhere far (note: great for last minute Christmas presents for the whole family!)
2) They actually carry pretty decent stock of clothing that was not made for teeny tiny people. Let's be honest... we aren't all 5'2 and under a hundred pounds... this is something that Aritzia doesn't seem to fully understand.
All in all, Hills is a great neighborhood department store and I rarely walk out without at least one bank-breaking purchase... guilty pleasure indeed. -

I was in Kerrisdale today doing some shopping and I found myself wandering into Hills on a last minute stop after lunch with some friends. I like the selection they have for mens clothing. Everything from Boss black label, Boss Orange, Penguin, Lacoste, Juicy couture, vintage repro T's, and yes even those Nudie jeans you have been coveting. They were having a sale today and I managed to pick up some Earnest Sewn for a really good deal. The layout out of the store is very vintage sheik. Lots of antiques mixed with funky accessories. If your like me and you luv a good holiday fuzzy I recommend in december on a cold winters night head down to Kerrisdale grab yourself a spanish latte and pa-ruse the store and gawk at the windows and unless your dead inside you will for sure have that warm fuzzy!

I got back into town after being in California for a year and a half, and one of the first retail stops I made was Hill's. I was pleased to find Vince sweaters here, and other labels that aren't carried at many boutiques. I knew I hit the jackpot when I found Citizens maternity jeans on sale! I bought them and then had them hemmed for $6 (free on items not on sale). I am thoroughly impressed by the friendliness of the staff. At the time I chalked it up to being back in Canada but I have witnessed much less attentive and friendly workers at other stores, so clearly it's something that Hills can pride themselves on. Well done...I'll be back!

If Urban Outfitters was a department store, it might look like Hills of Kerrisdale. Something about the way the store is arranged really brings a department store to mind. Maybe it's the way things are displayed or the way the jewelery counter sits towards the front of the store. Hills of Kerrisdale has a lot to offer both men and women and they certainly have a lot more merchandise than most clothing stores.

Hill's of Kerrisdale houses Blue Ruby and Aritizia amongst other things. In its heyday, it was the go-to place of all the plaid-wearing high school students from any of the neighbouring private schools. Heck, they even carry uniforms. Since then, however, their stock has failed to keep up with current trends and outside of what is carried in the Aritzia department, everything is a bit stale. Too structured blazers that fall too stiffly on the shoulders, outdated silhouettes and dated patterns. With all the other options available, I find it hard to make the trek to Hill's.

Walking into Hills of Kerrisdale is sort of like walking into an emporium of adorable and of style with a bit of swank thrown in. They carry both men's and women's attire, from labels that we all know and love: Kenneth Cole, Matinique, Juicy Couture and Free People. There's a lot of selection and a lot of price range, so you may need to sort through several racks of prettiness (or uh, handsomeness if you're a man) before you hit on the right combination of style, price and fit. If you are in the market for something fancy, this is a good place to start as they carry a nice selection of party type dresses that tend more towards trendy than formal. They also have a particularly good collection of funky jewelry in gold and silver, and yay! They have hanky pankies.
