If you know me, you will know that I'm not a yoga type of person. The whole idea of breathing other people's body odours in hot yoga makes me want to gag.
However, I am 100% converted thanks to Y Yoga. I've tried other places in the past and I can never get into it. Either it's boring or I can't stop thinking about what germs are lurking in the carpet under me.
Y Yoga is amazingly clean, comfortable, have laminate floors and provides a relaxing atmosphere to exercise. The instructors were so patient and helped me get the right pose. They actually seemed like they care. I've tried a few types of yoga already, but I love the hot yoga here. I wish it was a little cheaper so I can actually afford it every month, but I guess you have to pay top dollars for top quality. It'll be a treat for me every 3 months.Listed in: Cold Damp Rain

Here are the reason why I am a fan of YYOGA:
- Variety of classes: it was nice to be able to switch it up from a more relaxing class such as restorative to power yoga if I was really feeling strong that day. That amount variety doesn't happen with other yoga studios such as Bikram or Mosha, so it was an interesting change.
- Clean and sleek design: The studio is so nice, from its flooring all the way to the fixtures. This just adds to the modern and relax environment.
- Little extras: Things such as tea and the the sauna, are the little things that make the yoga experience better.
Things I did not like so much:
- When in the smaller of the studio rooms, I always found that no matter what the class, that room get packed. To the point where you feel you must restrict your pose just so things don't get awkward with the people around you.
- If you check out the other YYOGA studios you will notice many of them have a larger variety or classes.
This studio is great, and I recommend checking it out for those who have done yoga before and those who want to try it for the first time. -

(Update: I've been back a few times and have to say that going during the daytime was quieter than after work hours.)
The dropping weights from the fitness centre is almost under control, and I'm back to loving Highgate YYoga. It's been a long time since I'd come back so I'm sooo happy!
This place is clean and serene, and I really enjoy their flow and hot yoga classes and have enjoyed all the instructors I've practised with. The descriptions of their classes are quite accurate and if you are looking for more of a challenge the power yoga will work you (in a good way).
If you're going to drop in, be sure to get a flex membership (pre-load $100) so that you can get a bit of a discount on each drop in visit.
When I come with a friend, I really enjoy relaxing afterwards sitting around the tables chatting and enjoying the tea. Also a great time to chat with your instructor if he/she chills out after class too! -

I love Yyoga, great workers and instructors. the only negative thing I have to say about this location is its way smaller thn the other locations and dont offer classes such as spin. Membership is on the pricey side but I think its worth it. Ive done yoga in rec centres and it doesnt comapare to yyoga.

Ok, so I know that this may be a bias review considering that I am a yoga teacher myself... but I would just like to clarify that I do not teach at yyoga - i simply come here VERY regularly because i heart it VERY much!
The teachers here are fabulous - and it just so happens that the timings of their schedule work perfectly with mine. My favorite class is definitely the Power Yoga class with Jesse on Wednesday afternoons... not only is he a fabulous teacher (he has lots of yoga experience), but you leave that class literally feeling detoxed! It's so great!
There's also a little tea area in the front of the studio where you can sit down and have tea with your instructor before/after the class. There's a very strong community feeling in the studio - and although i live about 30-45 minutes away, they still make me feel part of the community... (but this could also be because I find myself at a class at least 4 times a week)... -

I confess. It's been almost 2 years since I went to yoga. Don't get me wrong, I heart yoga. But seriously, I am the first to admit that I have no motivation!
This all changed when I came across a complimentary pass to one of YYoga's center's in Burnaby. I decided to drag my lazy bum down there early on a Sunday morning to try out my first hot class ("hot fusion") as YYoga calls it. The instructor was awesome, she gave tips when needed but kept the class going at a steady pace. As a relative beginner I found it a bit tough to keep up since the instructor was usually walking around the class and not actually doing the poses herself (which I find a lot easier to follow along to).
With that said, I still found that the instructor had a good mix of balance and strength poses.
PS. I loved that I went to a hot class, I sweat more than in any other yoga class and felt amazing afterwards! I will definitely be back as I plan on buying a membership :) -

I headed over to YYOGA Highgate tonight to check out the Yin:Yang class mostly because of its funky name and ended up really enjoying it! This YYOGA is beautiful just like the other centres but its a lot smaller and more intimate than Flow, it reminded me of the South Granville location. There are two rooms with funny names, "This" room and "That" room. I really enjoyed the class, I loved that it was part flowing yoga and the other part stretching yin style, I highly recommend it. There were only 3 of us in the class and that was great since you get a lot of 1 on 1 and personalized attention from the instructor (she was amazing!). An overall good class, made me break a sweat but just barely so you don't have to worry about bringing a towel or anything. The only thing to keep in mind is that there are NO lockers at this location. YYOGA hits the spot again!

This is quite the chain yoga business. I am very impressed with the variety of classes they offer and the excellent atmosphere they have created. I have only been to the Highgate studio. I have to applaud you, yyoga, for getting my boyfriend hooked, too. I had tried so many times to get him to go to a yoga class, but was discouraged and too shy. Finally, I found they offered yin yoga, which is an excellent practice for all levels of practitioners, particularly beginners, and for those who are looking for more meditative types of yoga. He now goes several times a week and bought a pass! I have yet to try out their other classes, particularly the ashtanga and power/flow classes (which I do on a daily basis).
This studio is amazing, and I have never seen a place that offers so many different styles. The only downfall is the price... not for your average poor college student! But there is the $30 2-week pass your first time, as well as other special offers hear and there. Be sure to try it out!
