Review from Cathy S.
My favourite of the southern Okanagan wineries.
The use of stone and wood in the new wine tasting room, with the old world feel, is gorgeous. A restaurant now fills the space of the former tasting room. The estate also has six villa suites providing luxurious accomodation.
We were greeted at the heavy wood front door by Lori with a cool sample of their 2010 Trebbiano - what a welcome touch on that warm summer day! She encouraged us to relax and try anything and everything from the 12 wines on their tasting portfolio.
We left with a nice mixed case of their 2009 Merlot, 2008 Reserve Merlot, 2008 Cabernet Franc and a bottle of the 2010 Trebbiano.
I can see us planning a return visit and staying at the villas in the not too distant future.Listed in: South Okanagan Wine Tour

Beautiful location - you half expect to see a bridal party making their way through the vines overlooking the valley. The villa would be a spectacular place to have a weekend wedding, and their tasting room is just wonderful too - they have a medieval-styled room just off the tasting room that looks like it would host a great meal.
It's too bad I love the place more than the wines - they aren't bad, but none of them ever stand out for me, at the price point they've chosen. -

One of the most consistant wineries through the years when we go up. Prefer the reserve in general. Very nice staff, tasting room, and the price points are fair.
Update: While they've built a beautiful new wine tasting room, and have turned their old into a restaurant, they've changed winemakers as well. This, IMO, has not done them any favors. The lineup is OK at best with nothing special really standing out other than the late harvest. Everything was so nice that I really wanted to like the wines but couldn't. Overly acidic again with little to balance it out. -

Love, love, love this winery!! I came in to do a little bit of sampling a couple of weeks ago. One of the women at the counter was quick to notice that I was there and invite me to sample their selections. She answered all of my questions in a knowledgeable manner and was able to give recommendations on pairings. Out of everything that I tried, both the Pinot Blanc and the Pinot Gris stand out! The reds are a little weaker, but the Cabernet Sauvignon is decent.
The main building is beautifully designed and seated atop a knoll amidst a gorgeous vineyard. The interior consists of large open spaces, high ceilings, and a high tech demonstration kitchen. There are a selection of charcuterie et fromage available for purchase; you can take those and a glass of their vino out onto the patio for a lunch in one of the most picturesque spots that I know. I certainly found it to be both a relaxing and interesting experience, and came home with a few more bottles for my cellar. -

Hester Creek has a beautiful setting on the West side of the valley. The hosts here are always very welcoming. During one visit we talked with the proprietress and she was so happy to share with us all the information about how the wines are made. She invited us to walk around the grounds and check things out.
The wine tasting shop has a great, big, heavy wooden door. Pull hard and get yourself in there! The wine is always a treat. We were welcomed to taste anything we liked without paying a fee. There are so many of their wines that I like! The whites are all fun summer sippers and I especially love their Reserve (blue label) reds.
The prices here are very reasonable. Whites range from $14.99 to $18.99. You'll pay $16/$17 for regular reds, or $26 to $35 for Reserve reds. They also make Ice and Late Harvest wines. They even sell 1/2 bottles -- perfect if you want to sit on their patio and enjoy a glass with a friend.Listed in: South Okanagan Wineries

Road # 8 off of hwy 97 ends in a fork- turn right and you'll reach Gehringer Brothers Estate Winery (see review), turn left, and you will get to Hester Creek Estate Winery. Hester Creek sits on some of British Columbia's oldest vineyards, which lay along the western benches of the South Okanagan's Golden Mile.
The winery building and grounds at Hester Creek are pretty, with an outdoor patio under the cover of old vines. The wine shop and tasting bar have an old-world feel to them. Visitors can browse a selection of glassware, books, and wine accessories.
Wines:
Hester Creek makes wine of grapes from its estate vineyard and from South Okanagan growers. The winery is known for its Trebbiano, and old-vine wine not made by any other winery in British Columbia.
Notes on Tastings:
The tasting bar at Hester Creek can serve several people at once if staffed by more than one person. Tasting staff are warm, and can provide information on the winery's history and story. The wine shop is spacious and visitors can browse the many items offered there if there is a wait. -
Review from John M.
Best overall value in the region for wineing and dining. Some great wines at great prices and a lovely restaurant. I am not a Merlot drinker but Larry twisted my arm and I walked out with 4 bottles. It was about $15 and better than most other reds in the region running $25+. The Judge, a Bordeaux blend was only $40 and better than several regional blends going for $90 +. THEN we went to Lunch at Terrafina and would highly recommend it. Lunch was a Capresi Salad, Meat Ball Appetizer (out of this world), a share plate of cheese and meat and a fresh Pizza, all were gourmet quality and the service and setting breath taking.

Wanted to take a break from the hustle of the city and to have a special birthday celebration so we opted for a wine country getaway in the Okanagan Valley in BC -just 5 hours country drive from Vancouver. We tried to get into Burrowing Owl but they were full and kindly recommended we try Hester Creek. So glad they told us about this hidden gem. Only six units, perched on top of the hill behind the vineyard, beautifully appointed with fireplaces and nice furnishings, lovely sheets, towels and spotlessly clean. We were graciously met by Innkeeper Lee Ann Openshaw, who is a wonderful host and has an eye for detail. Our suite "la Sirena" is the largest and is a small self contained "Tuscan villa" with panoramic views from all windows over the valley below...breathtaking and so quiet except for the chirping birds! Satellite TV, wifi, 2 bathrooms and a beautiful patio with chaise lounges and an outdoor dining area with table and 4 chairs (there's another one inside too.)
Breakfasts are gourmet concotions served al fresco and overseen by Lee Ann herself.
Partridges, yellow bellied marmots and deer can be seen on the property
One of the best places I have been for a long time. Oh...and the wine is fine too!
