I got a rental yesterday from this Hertz when I took my car to the adjacent dealer for service.
The car was ok, though not very clean, kinda stinky, and had scratches all over the place.
The guy that rented me the car was friendly enough and asked how far I would be driving and told me to put $5.00 in before I bring it back.
I checked the paper he gave me with the 7/8 of a tank line marked. I put $5.00 in today before I took it back and he had been bang on. I returned it with the gas gauge right on 7/8.
When I returned the car today, there was a different employee there that seemed pretty shady.
First he just said ok and walked off after I gave him the papers and keys. I suggested I would stay while he did the inspection. When he looked at the gas gauge he said it was too low and told me that the 15/16 line was where it should be. I explained that the paper said 7/8 and there were 8 longer lines (eighths!) and I'd filled it to the 7th one. He argued some more and asked to see my gas receipt, which I showed him. He argued some more. I said, "fine, I will just take it to the gas station". He said I should put $5.00 more in. Exhausted, having just gotten off work, I then asked how much I would be charged if I don't go to the gas station. He said I could just give him a five and it would be ok. I said fine and asked him to charge my card and give me a receipt. He wanted cash. I told him I didn't have cash on me. He said if he charges my card then he'd charge me $10. WTF?!?!? Then he said that it was fine, and to forget about the charge. (Maybe he noticed my uniform?!?!) I told him I don't want him to do me any favours so just tell me how much I have to pay, charge so I could sign, and that I wanted to go. Then he said "ok, then how about you pay me $5?". Ahhhhhhhh!!!! Again I told him that I did not have any cash on me. Finally he told me it would be $6.00 and asked if that was ok. This felt so dirty I cannot even tell you. I said fine and I want to go and walked towards the office. He came inside, wrote "gas charge $6.00 HST $6.78" on my paper, told me he didn't need my signature or card because he already had it, and gave me a photocopy of the form.
I fully expect this guy to try to steal money from me and will let you, my bank, and everyone else know that. I keep a close eye on my finances though and the moment it happens I will contact the authorities and have charges laid. Just sayin.
