Got a ticket while driving a rental car, paid it promptly. Since have gotten several threatening letters from Hertz collection agency stating it was not paid. Sent proof each time, continuing to get the letters. Now we get a letter saying we are no longer authorized to rent from Hertz.
Do they think this helps them to get business?

I rented a car last year from the Hertz office at the Manchester Airport in the U.K. for a business trip in the north of England. I checked the car out, drove it around for ten days, and returned it (at 4:00 a.m. after the office was closed) with no problems whatsover. The car was working fine and left in a secure parking spot in the structure above the rental office.

About two months later I started getting calls from a collection agency here in the U.S. saying that I owed Hertz upwards of $800 for damages that resulted from putting the wrong type of gasoline in the car. I was stunned to hear this. It's a flat out lie. I repeat, it's a flat out lie. I've driven in the U.K. on numerous ocassions and know what type of gas to put in the cars I rent.

I grew up around cars and the people who fix them and am shocked that Hertz would come up with such a stupid excuse to scam money out of one of their customers. Not only that, the collection agency they employed have been harassing me for the last ten months even though the issue was settled by my credit card company (against my wishes). They're also asking for an additional $80 in "administrative fees" but won't provide proof of what these fees are or what they're for.

I know we're in a recession that everyone is feeling, but I'm stunned that a company like Hertz, that I've used many times before, would resort to this type of extortionist behavior. I guess bad times bring out the worst in people. They certainly have at Hertz.

The bottom line is, Do NOT use Hertz. I don't want this to happen to any of you.

This company is dishonest. BEWARE !! They stole money form me by taking my deposit and then they did not have a car for me - never gave my deposit back to me and does not respond.

I was going to rent a vehicle at Denver International Airport, (total charge of                 $ 39.65),became ill with strep throat within 24 hours of the time of rental (23 hrs), and when I went to cancel the the rental, they are charging me a $50 cancellation fee! Unconscionable business protocol! There apparently is no room for illness..never again will I rent from Hertz!!! And will make sure I tell all my friends not to rent from Hertz.

Golly, Hertz musta got wind that they were the best part of my recent misadventure to Canada, and not wanting to miss out had to jump on the bandwagon and charge me $75 freakin' dollars for a tank of gas!

Fer chrissakes, I can fill my SUV for $60.  Eek!  Methinks not indeed!

Rented a vehicle from Hertz. Encountered a tire tread from a semi truck that was spun up by the vehicle in front of me.  I pulled the car over and had it towed back to the Philadelphia Airport location on August 12.  The car was determined to be a total loss on August 26 citing interior damage and needing to replace parts of the car that were perfectly intact in the pictures.  They submitted a claim to my insurance company for a total loss on a 6 cylinder vehicle.  The problem was that I rented a 4 cylinder vehicle.  The car was vandalized in between the time I dropped off the car and when it was evaluated. So, they want to charge me for that damage as well.  I have filed a criminal complaint of insurance fraud with the Chicago Police Department as a result,.  Time to see these bastards go to jail.
