The Heritage Grill should be commended for its support of the arts and live music, hosting numerous weekly events from a diverse palette.

This is a place to go to take in a range of cultural offereings and although the décor is a little tired, it along with the great staff create a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. However, the food is not exceptional and could be improved.

Personally liked the atmosphere, funky spot. Our waitress was knew and made some mistakes but she was trying and friendly so no issue there.

Our appie of wings was good (Tues special, 25cents a wing so you can't go wrong) but our pastas were really bland. My boyfriend ordered the seafood fettuccine in pesto white wine cream sauce and I order the linguine primavera with gorgonzola cream sauce and seasonal vegetables. Both sauces were tasteless. My vegetables were practically raw (nothing fancy--broccoli, peppers and red onion) and I couldn't taste any gorgonzola in my sauce at all. My boyfriend's seafood dish included a small amount of prawns, mussels, salmon, clams and cod... could have used scallops or halibut instead of the cod, which seemed out of place. His sauce was also quite tasteless. For dessert, we tried the tiramisu. There was a lot of it, but quantity doesn't mean quality. It was probably the worst tiramisu I've ever had and we had a hard time finishing it.

And yet, there's something that made us decide to give it one more go. When we asked what the most popular dishes are, we were told the wings and jambalaya. So that's what we're going to try next time around. The atmosphere is good, the patio would be great in the summer, and we love the fact that they host a bunch of live music and slam poetry events.

We'll give the food one last chance, otherwise we'll stick strictly to drinks and live music.

The "greek salad" was mostly lettuce, and with a "chicken breast" came to $16 and change, I left hungry and angry.
    Hated it.

The HG is my favourite place for a couple late night drinks in New West.

The staff here is always friendly, there is a unique and diverse crowd that show up here and Paul, the owner, is always around making sure everyone is having a good time.

The decor leaves a lot to be desired, but it's quirkyness tends to grow on you quickly.

There is live music here almost every night, and more often than not you'll get a pretty good band.

Paying over $11 for something that tasted like I was hungover, low on groceries, and looking to use leftovers in my fridge is not really what I had in mind when I ordered food here.  But that's unfortunately what I got.

A friend was playing a show in the back room which is what brought me to New West in the first place, and it seemed like a cute little grill with a nice ambiance, and a neat back room with a stage.  The food prices were average, with a few leaning towards to higher-moderate which I though was a good sign.

I ordered a turkey sandwich with brie and cranberry sauce.

    What I thought I ordered:
Sounds awesome!  Visions of grilled turkey smothered in cranberry sauce and dripped through with oozy brie danced in my head.

    What I got:
Dry bits of turkey (with a giant chunk of cartilage hanging out of one end (guhh.) A super thin smear of cranberry sauce on the top piece of bread. A slice of brie on the bottom bun so thin it merely moistened up the bun a tad, but added no flavour to speak of.

I also ordered a dirty gin martini that had a sickly amount of vermouth and was served with a lime wedge.  A lime wedge on a dirty martini is just strange.

The two stars is for the excellent service (the servers were super nice and attentive,) surprisingly good side salad, and live music, which was great both in the main room and the back room.

I've been to the Heritage Grill twice now in the last month. Music is the motivation but I've been pleasantly surprised by the menu. Well, the first visit was a little uninspiring, but not horrible and really the most reasonably priced night out in a long time.

So, first visit had a pasta dish with a gorgonzola based sauce. It was bland. 2nd visit enjoyed the Fettucine Bolognese. It was good. Quite a spicy kick to it.  And again, blown away by the teeny tiny bill. Pasta dish, 1/2 litre of house plonk, Monte Cristo coffee - $37! And as I say, I go for the music so not being offended by the food is good enough for me at this establishment. Fine dining, no, but yes to great atmosphere with efficient and down to earth friendly servers.

Thank you Heritage Grill for providing some of the best live music that Metro Vancouver has to offer. Look for your favorite musicians to show up here and if you haven' seen Lache Cercel & his Roma Swing or Petunia & the Vipers look for their next visit at the Heritage Grill.

Have gone here on several occasions for different reasons.  On Saturday nights the backroom is gay but only busy on drag nights. I try to support the back room called GIN so I drop in for a drink when I can the front of the place is great although smoking on the patio is archaic and nauseating this is why the low stars.  Fod is not Fab but mediocre. The staff are great and service is quick and attentive.

My aunt's friends prepared a special surprise birthday party for her at the Heritage Grill in New Westminster. Prior to this event, I had never heard of this restaurant, so I took a look at their website. I was pleasantly surprised to find their website to be *GASP* clean-looking and easily navigation-able...dare I even say charming due to the story of how the restaurant all started which was accompanied by several lovely photos. From what I understand, this restaurant was also host to several jazz events, which I thought was neat.

Anyway, I arrived at the restaurant last night. Our party was located in their private room, which was at the very back of the restaurant. Due to this room containing a stage, the only lighting in the room was done via mostly red and blue stage lights, with a few white spotlights illuminating a few of the tables.

A quick glance at the hodge-podge offerings on the menu made it difficult for me to pinpoint what kind of restaurant it was. They had a handful of Italian-inspired dishes, some Creole-inspired dishes, a section devoted to sandwiches and burgers, and my favorite: a few offerings of some Asian-inspired dishes.

I think I must have taken that as a subconscious red flag as I chose to have their portabello burger with fries as opposed to the menu's more 'exotic' offerings. My boyfriend chose their teriyaki chicken pasta (with teriyaki cream sauce) out of sheer curiosity. As a starter, we chose the bruschetta to serve as a benchmark of the food quality.

Being such a large group, I didn't expect the quickest service, but I did find it odd that everyone else's meals came before our bruschetta was served. The wife of the couple sitting with us called our one and only server for the evening over and asked if our meals were coming out, to which we received the reply, "Oh, it'll come out when your appetizer is finished."

Under normal circumstances, this is fine--but it was quite apparent that my boyfriend and I were the only ones who ordered an appetizer. The tables around us were starting their meals, and we were left sharing a plate of the lousiest bruschetta I've ever had. For starters, the bread was soggy. The tomatoes used were the pale beefsteak tomato variety--you know, the kind that looks like some weak shade of red and has no flavor whatsoever. Absolutely sad.

To top it off, we had one piece of bruschetta left on the plate (which is fine, as we were having a conversation while eating) when our server started to pick up the plate.

"Oh, we're not done with that yet," we piped. In all my experiences of eating out, I've never had a server pick up a plate that still had food on it without asking if we wanted it taken away or not. How presumptuous!

Anyway, the meal came out. I tried some of my boyfriend's dish, which he described as "something that should have never been slapped together". My portabello burger was alright--not amazing. What surprised me a bit was the salad, and how the dominant flavor was the chopped mint that they added in with the leaves.

At one point, all the lights except for the red stage lights went out for a few minutes. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but it aggravated my growing annoyance as some people were still trying to eat their (late) meals.

Eager to leave after the meal was finished, I called our server over for the bill. I guess I should've called her over when we were finishing our meal, as it took a good 10 minutes for her to tally it up for us. I guess she was having trouble, as she asked if I had water to drink (I ordered a beer). In retrospect, I should've just left it at that and walked away with a free beer in exchange for the sloppy service and slightly overpriced, lacklustre food.

Needless to say, I felt good about leaving a tip that was less than 10% of the bill.

Had the part where our bruschetta was being taken away suddenly never happen, I probably wouldn't be writing up such a terrible review....but no, it was THAT bad.

Great food, wonderful live music every night and passionate people!
Heritage Grill is the best New Orleans style (for lack of better description) restaurant you will find in Metro Vancouver! This place is packed every night with people who want to know your name and with musicians who want to truly entertain you. Try their famous crab cakes and jambalaya. I spent 3 nights in a row at this place and with different food and band each night, I (wish I) could do that every weekend! There are many places to go après like The Lafflines Comedy Club or the Fever night club.  Columbia Street is reclaiming it's fame as the Golden Mile thanks to  passionate businesses like Heritage Grill.

We went there for lunch and had the soup and sandwich special...red pepper crab bisque and steak sandwich. Yumm yumm. They also have live music everynite. Mostly jazz but some blues and open mic. We will definitely be going back for that. The food is awesome and the service was great and friendly.

The Heritage Grill has now added a sidewalk coffee stand to their operations - with Ethical Bean coffee. Delicious, and now I don't have to tie the dog up to get my caffeine when I go for a morning yuppie walk with my cuppa and my pooch.

Great live music every night. This casual relaxed place is inviting and unpretentious. The food is well prepared and healthy. Not your run of the mill pub food. This is quality and relaxed class.

Not the nicest place inside, but the patio is great for those rare sunny days.  The service has always been great and the food is incredible.  I really recommend the lamb burger.
