Having two furry friends at home, I am so lucky to have this store so close to me. Every time I enter I am always greeted with someone's dog, whether it's another consumers or someone who works there.
The store is filled with unique toys for dogs and cats, (who knew there was such a thing as the "litter Kwiter"!) and they are always so quick to offer advice as I scratch my head at the variety of foods. Last week I went in because my older lady (her name is Dezi and she's a bossy Himalayan) had been having "bathroom issues." When I went in, the girl who worked there (I think Melissa...) suggested we try canned pumpkin. I figured I had nothing to lose so I picked some up and sure enough, problem solved.
I feel very lucky to have such a fantastic store at my doorstep. And my ladies at home are happy because every time I go in, I always seem to find something new to bring home for them. (Still have been holding out on the Litter Kwitter though... just not sure I can pull off Meet the Fockers... -

I love that they sell corn cat litter, that they carry cat milk (perfect for special treats) and Greenies, and that they are right by the vets for when I want to bribe my little princess into loving me again with a new toy.
The staff are super friendly, and as I've been going here for about 4 years, I've gotten to the point of that nice neighborhood feel where people know my name and my kitty's name. They are very knowledgeable on the foods they carry and what will work best for your pet's dietary needs. They also carefully research the foods they carry to make sure that they are selling only the best of the best for your pet's tummy.
The only down-side is that the selection of cat toys is continually shrinking and is now delegated to one window. It's great for the basic toys like catnip pillows, ping pong balls, etcetera, but if you're looking for something different to challenge your fur baby you might not find what you're looking for. -

Melissa at Helmutt's is my 'go-to' gal for pet food related questions....she really knows her sh*t. And as per other reviewers, the non-pretentious staff are all great, and NEVER try to up-sell you into something you don't want or need.
I can't walk a dog past the door without being dragged inside!
Helmutt's is the original old school Queen West neighbourhood pet shop. -

Helmutt's Pet Supply is a great compliments to Timmie Doggie Outfitter next door.
Helmutt's is so much down to earth, selling basic everyday needs and supplies for your dogs. Not as glamorous and pricey but not everyone want designer stuffs or can afford them.

Pet food is always pricey, so you can't hold that against them - although obviously the same wares will cost a bit less outside of downtown. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable but beware the up-sell as has been warned before. Generally it's a nice local shop, if a little bit hippy-ish.

When I was a teenager I lived with a family in Germany and the father's name was Helmut. Subconciously, I think that's what drove me here initially but the staff has definitely kept me coming back.
I feel like I ask a lot of annoying questions here, the kind that can't normally be justified with an actual knowledgeable answer. Somehow, the staff still know what to suggest when I tell them my picky cat doesn't like X brand anymore, or he can't poop when I feed him Y. They've never actually made a bad recommendation to me, and have even suggested things in the past that ended up resulting in me spending less money. Such a rare occurrence, no?
Secretly, I think I wish my cat would eat more just so I can come here more frequently and see what cute puppies are hanging out. But that's beside the point, I guess. -

The staff at Helmutt's is great, and always tell you like it is (example: steering me away from the bone made of salmon skin - stinks for days, and leaves fish scales all around the house). They always greet me and my little guy with treats and attention. Their prices are quite good for downtown, and they carry most of the basics (leashes, food, treats, cleaning products, Kongs and other toys).

The staff at Helmutt's tell it like it is, they've helped me with helping to figure out what type of hypoallergenic food would be best for my little guy as well as what I should steer clear of. It's a truly dog friendly place and they're always quick to give my little guy some treats or pats. Fresh water is always handy for the excited dog customers. Their selection of foods and supplies is fantastic, and it's amazing having them in the neighbourhood. A fantastic, refreshing alternative to the foo foo doggy boutiques popping up.

A good basic pet store. The carry lots of foods and treats, some toys, and other pet basics (e.g. shampoos, carpet cleaners, toothpaste). I buy our pet essentials here and pepperoni sticks for doggy treats. When we walk by my dog pulls me right up to the door. He definitely likes the place, where he laps up some water and always gets a cookie. Most of the staff are very helpful.....

Much less pretentious than Timmie's next door. I've gone into Timmie's twice to find stuff for my Yorkie and been so frustrated by the staff that I only ever go next door to Helmutt's now. The staff at Helmutt's have been super helpful when I went to get a new harness and when I was looking for boots they even showed me how to put them on my dog,
