Review from Ashley S.
When visiting Vancouver this place was well worth the drive out from downtown. We went during a Canucks game which was an awesome time. The TVs are perfect for sports watching.
Beers were awesome. The bartender and waiter knew their beers and picked out great ones. Pizza was awesome and fast.
The thing that set this place apart from everywhere else we ate while visiting Vancouver is that the service was SOOOO good. The wait staff was super nice and engaging. Made our night. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting (or living in) the area. -

We walked in and it was quiet, just the prime of opening for the hockey game for the guy I am dating. Very nice ambience. It's a small establishment with a very unique seating map that allows everyone a proper view of the game that works.
The service was awesome, quick, efficient and the waiter knew his menu items. We waited no more than 5 minutes for each of our items.
We had a Groupon for 2 salads, 2 beers and 1 15" Pizza. I can't eat gluten but indulged this one day to spend V-day with the guy I am dating. Believe me I regretted the gluten fest later as when I went home I vomited the pizza due to my gluten intolerance. In the end the temporary taste was worth it.
We had the Daisy Duke pizza with BBQ Sauce. I have had BBQ sauce that is used as the base sauce which always overpowers all the toppings. Hell's Kitchen did it right by drizzling it on the pizza so that you get the powerful flavor without it taking away from the other flavors.
The crust was thin and the weight of the toppings ending up making the pizza near the tips a bit soggy, however, this is minor criticism for an otherwise awesome pizza deal.
$50 for all that seems pretty high, therefore, not sure if I would hit this joint without a Groupon, however, will come back with a friend for a small dish and drink in the near future.
The salad was good and fresh with the dressing being liberal but flavorful..
For a pub I consider this fancy since they used cloth napkins. -

Went for brunch Monday. It wasn't too busy, sat right down. Food was great, nice that they use free range eggs. Great craft beer selection

I've been back to Hell's Kitchen several times since my initial review in 2009. They are under new ownership (2011) and it shows. The food is great, atmosphere is casual and fun. Service was amazing...but I may be biased because I usually get Andrew. He's been running restaurants for over 10 years and he knows how to take care of his customers.

One word to describe Hell's Kitchen: solid. Every time I've been here, the food has been great, their service has been great, and the drinks have been great. It can get a little busy on weekends, but it always seems to have a lively, upbeat atmosphere and it's a pretty fun place to go for some casual drinks and eats despite its sports bar flair.
As one might expect, Hell's Kitchen does make one bad-ass pizza. The first time I ever went there I had their daily creation, which at that time was a pulled pork and BBQ sauce number which totally wouldn't normally be "my thing", but ended up being amazing. One thing I especially appreciate about their menu is that their beef is all grain-fed, and (even better) their chicken is all free-range. Big ups to the Hell's Kitchen chef for that!
Overall, Hell's Kitchen is a great option if you're looking for a casual place to dine in Kitsilano. Oh yeah, they've been around since before that Gordon Ramsay show, too. -

Boyfriend had a "volume purchase coupon" (yes, I dub this term!) and we came to Hell's Kitchen for dinner on the day it expired. Excellent planning on our part, no? :P
Seeing the selection on the pizzas, we quickly decided this was gonna be a pizza dinner. We ordered 2 15" pizzas ($20-ish each) between the two of us. Skipping ahead to the story, when you need 2 tables to hold your food, you know you ordered wayyyyyyyyy too much. After stuffing our faces at the restaurant, we packed up pretty much 1 whole pizza to go, and that became bf's breakfast/lunch for the next few days.
Anyways, the restaurant can do half-and-half pizzas - only on the 15" and only on the same base sauce. We decided on trying the following 4 flavours: The Soprano (meat meat meat), Sergeant Pepperoni (essentially classic pepperoni), Wall Street (don't remember anything except the roasted garlic), and The Green Monster (good, but for some reason not as memorable as the same pizza at The Flying Wedge). Pizzas came piping hot from the oven. A general warning that all were a bit overly salty. My favourite was actually, surprisingly, Sergeant Pepperoni. I guess sometimes a good classic pepperoni pizza is all that's needed. Kudos to the boyfriend on his decision to get this!
I thought it was overall a good value for money. The pizzas, for the most part, were decent; definitely not the best I've had. I wouldn't specifically seek to eat here, but would consider it when craving pizza in this neighbourhood. -
Review from Dee B.
You know, I haven't been to Hell's kitchen since my early 20's and it hasn't changed a bit. It's still a pub in a great location in Kits with sticky floors and the smell of old beer dried into a wood bar.
The food is OK. Nothing out of this world, but not disappointing either. Everyone can find something they'll enjoy, especially with big pizza menu.
The hostess was just awful, but the service was prompt, efficient and polite.
Why did I go here? Close to home and seating was available. The likelihood of me being back? 20% tops. -

Hell's Kitchen = Thin crust, delicious pizza! Don't see the connection? well make one! A lot of selections to choose from, from something as light as a margarita pizza, to something a lot more complex :) All delicous!~ And doesn't leave you feeling too heavy and greasy.
Their fried banana pudding bread is very unique, and definitely a must try!
Have groupon? Hell's Kitchen often time has their Daily NOW deals, so don't forget to scan for one while you're in the mood for some pizza from Hell's!
Also make a reservation via open table. Collect points! And.. it gets more busy and filled starting at 6:30pm for dinner time.. even on weekdays. -
Review from Nicole F.
I'd only been to Hell's Kitchen once before for pizza a few years ago and couldn't really remember if I liked it that much, but I ate here on Thursday night with a friend and could barely waddle out the door when I was finished.
We were wandering down W 4th checking out the menus posted outside and when we came to Hell's Kitchen I noticed they had Eggplant Parmesan. I had (for some reason..) been craving Eggplant all day so in we went!
When the food arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see that the "seasonal vegetables" were great big fat spears of asparagus. One of my favourite vegetables! I think they were sauteed and sprinkled with some parmesan after but I can't be sure. They were delicious either way. There was some red pepper too but I didn't touch it.
The Eggplant slices were covered in delicious gooey cheese and had a lovely and flavourful sauce. The pasta underneath was also delicious. There was more than enough and I almost finished it.. but one more bite probably would have destroyed me.
All I can think about is going back and eating the crap out of this.
Service was a little bit slow, mostly when it came to paying our bill, but other than that it was good!Listed in: Comfort Food

Service was good. Food mediocre. My wife had crab ravioli in a cream sauce. Presentation appeared small...but was larger than it looked. It tasted good but it had something crunchy in it...a vegetable maybe...didn't quite go. My pizza was the "Soprano". Taste was good but they served it on a ceramic tile. Not sure if anyone told them but the tile made the pizza soggy. Taste was good excep for that soggy part.

I went to Hell's Kitchen with a friend on a Sunday. They have a brunch menu but we were feeling like lunch. Our waiter was a bit casual, sitting down at the chair at the end to take our order. Nice guy but not what I was expecting.
I got an 11" pizza with roasted veggies since my friend is a vegetarian. Sharesies are always good! The pizza was decent but the crust, while thin, was a bit soggy. My friend had a marinated portobello mushroom with fries. Very messy but she said it was delicious. Again, the fries were a bit soggy.
Great atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon but nothing to rave about. -

Been here a few times now, always with a group of friends. It's loud but it is all part of the casual atmosphere. It's a fairly large venue that can accomodate small tables or groups in their large, comfy booths.
You HAVE to try the poutine here. I am not always a poutine fanatic but we now order it every time we go. It is delicious! I also quite enjoy their Aphrodite pizza for something simple but tasty. I hear many of their other pizza selections are great as well.
Service has been mixed. The first couple of times (in the largest of groups) the service was great. Attentive and laidback, getting the job done. When there in a slightly smaller group, the waitress was pretty subpar. -

Another Group-on dinner success story: two beers, two salads and a 15" pizza for $20! Aside from the deal, the place had good waiters, good food and a nice pub atmosphere. The regular pricing is quite high for a pizza and beer joint though (including tip & taxes it would have cost us over $50 bucks plus meter parking).

5-STAR POUTINE ALERT!
I come here only for the poutine. I keep reading on Yelp about places that supposedly have the best poutine in Vancouver, well they are all wrong. While not authentic, this is the richest and heartiest tasting poutine ever.
Hand-cut Kennebec potatoes, crispy capers, aged Quebec white cheddar, prosciutto, with a peppercorn tenderloin jus.
They have a crappy beer list but I don't care about that. I don't care about the lame atmosphere or whatever else is on the menu. You know what I like, I like poutine. Take my money and give it to me. -

This place is so amazing, I wish it were a little bit closer.
I've come here for my birthday, with a friend on a Friday night, with a group of friends on a night out, and even with my parents on a weeknight.
The food is wonderful, I especially love their crab and cheese dip, their ravioli, and their chocolate hazelnut mousse. They used to have this drink called Georgia Peach and I'm a little sad that they took it off the menu, but other than that I've never been disappointed!
The ambience is the best, inside is decorated beautifully. -

The half price Living Social deals for Hell's Kitchen managed to drag me out to Kits for dinner a couple of times in the last few weeks. This place is a great little find!
Starters: Their poutine is fantastic - fries, gravy, cheese, prosciutto and peppercorns. The quesadilla is also very tasty.
We've had 1/2 and 1/2 pizzas both times we've visited. The first time - Daisy Duke and Smoky and the Bandit. The second time - Run Lolo Run and The Soprano. Each of the flavours was great, and toppings are usually generous (although the smoked chicken on the Run Lolo Run was a little lacking). The 15" pizza is more than enough for two people - both times, we ended up taking half the pizza home (mmmm, pizza for breakfast).
They have great drink specials throughout the week ($3 Red Truck!). Service is generally attentive without being overbearing - our glasses were never empty and food service was well-timed. This would be a great place to take a group of people, but it's also a good place for a casual dinner for two. -
Review from Gelsey B.
I've been to Hell's Kitchen three times and it doesn't disappoint! The pizzas are delicious I've had about 4 different pizzas and loved them all. The crust is thin and crunchy. The meats and veggies are fresh and good quality. The mojito (by the pitcher) was awesome. I enjoy their beer and wine selection. Service tends to be good. I went there with a group of 6 people and we had some online coupons + regular coupons and our server was very accommodating and helpful; she got us the best deal we could get. Another time they were short-staffed, but the hostess took over serving and we didn't have to wait for service. It worked well. I like the decor & ambiance... good music, nice wood furniture, warm environment.
One last thing though: one of my friends who went there with me has gluten allergies and there were no food options for her (except for 1 salad)... so if you can't eat wheat products, it might be hard for you to find food. But if you can, well enjoy that pizza! -

I went to Hell's Kitchen for dinner on a Wednesday night and got a burger with hell's poutine. It was pretty tasty. The toppings they offer are pretty unique and the prices are more than reasonable. My two friends got pizza and they both enjoyed theirs as well. The Drink prices were also reasonable.
I would definitely recommend this place to people looking to check out a decent restaurant in KIts. The variety on the menu is good, you can make reservations, you can watch the hockey game and it seems a decent place to hang out. -

We used a deal site to discover this restaurant/bar a little while ago... Our food was good, our drinks were good... Our waitress, was not so good. She didn't smile, and wasn't too friendly... I don't think she was too impressed that we were using our deal site coupon! Maybe she got a few too many that night!
Otherwise, it was overall good. -

I live in Kits, but for some reason I've never tried this place. Finally decided to see if their pizza is up to anything. Well, it actually is pretty decent. The toppings are very unique. I had smoked chicken, red onion, mango and chili sauce. Lots of toppings and fresh mango. Nice.
The Penny Lane pizza had tons of veg on it and really fresh spinach. Both had lots of cheese and a nice light crust. Not an authentic Italian pizza crust, but quite nice.
For lunch, the service is a bit stretched with only one server. Good service, but they should hire a second person. So yeah, I like the place and I like the dark and interesting room. -

WHOA, holy shit BACON BACON BACON. Err, what i mean is, usually my housemates n me come here for hungover Sunday brunch, and it's one of my faves! I always feel like i get my money's worth here and i always leave feeling little less hungover and a little more human.
I've come here a lot for brunch and dinner... and i know i always enjoy what i eat... But seriously, the only things i really remember are the bacon and mimosas. Maybe it's the hangover, but i like to think it's because those two items on the menu are so incredible that they outshine all else. I can't say i even recall anyone else i've been there with having a bad meal, so i recommend that you go, go, go!
I recommend trying to order your food when you order your drinks when they're busy, because we've had some loooong ass waits for our grub... But trust me that it's worth the wait!
Does anyone else wish this place was a bit more hell-ish though? When i first heard of it i thought i would be eating my eggs benny off the stomach of a nubile young virgin, and maybe the waiters would have cloven feet and would serve drinks in mighty chalices... But it's Kits i guess.Listed in: Best Caesars

A casual spot along West 4th where you can expect a decent pizza, club sandwich, and a beer on special every night.
Hell's chill setting (dimly lit with red and black decor), friendly servers and decent american-style food makes it a great place to hang out with some friends and relax over beer, pizza and fries. Last night, I meet up with some friends I hadn't seen in a while and it was perfect. -

Brunch... not quite breakfast, not quite lunch... we came around brunch-time, but I got breakfast.
While we do frequent our favourite breakfast place every Sunday, on Saturdays we roam around... but today was Sunday, so we were cheating. We had an entertainment coupon... We parked on W 4th before Burrard where it's free. The only problem is that it's hard to get out of the spot when you want to leave because it's really busy and not everyone is nice and let's you out. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! So you have to wait for a lull... but I guess it's worth it because it was FREEEEEEEEEEEE....
We didn't have to wait for a table. I am guessing we were early because it started to fill up as we were finishing. We sat and awaited the arrival of our server. He took a while, but water was delivered early on by a woman passing... I got a coke... it's the weekend, and I only got one because he never asked me if I wanted another one. Their fountain pop is good... really bubbly. My fiance got a coffee and he was asked if he wanted a refill.
I got the Kits Scramble and my fiance got an eggs benny. My scramble had goat cheese, sundried tomatoes and chicken... and something green--- I don't remember, Spinach? Oh and some basil. It came with potatoes and toast... I got a bottle of ketchup, perfect for dispensing the right amount (I drown things, but ketchup has lycopene, it's good for you). They also have peanut butter and raspberry jam packets on the table. Yippee... I used all the packets on my toast that was dripping with butter. Glaaaahhh, so good. My eggs were okay. They were lukewarm when I got them... I could have sworn I ate a piece of tofu, but they said it was chicken. I didn't really get a lot of goat cheese, but I did find some nuggets. The combination of ingredients worked so well together.
I tried some Hollandaise Sauce. It tasted like movie theatre popcorn butter. I scooped some and added it to my potatoes and it was good. -
Review from Evilyn T.
We came here for our late, late breakfast, but ended up having pizza instead, since it was $10 for a personal size. They seated us at the very back in the corner to hide us from the sun, and viewing displeasure of all of the people having Sunday church brunch in Hell's kitchen.
Flagging down your waitress and getting service at Hell's Kitchen has always been a problem for me, today was not so bad though. We decided to save some time and just throw our food orders in when we ordered drinks to help speed up the process, this was a good call on our part. The cesar was good, a nice mix of salty, and spicy, and the mimosa was there to wash it down when I was finished. God did choose Sunday to be the day of rest after all, so I was only doing what He wanted.
My pizza was the Green Monster, which was filled with pesto, pine nuts and cheesy goodness. The BF ordered the Penny Lane pizza and added some banana peppers to it, and our other guests had bennys and bacon. I was impressed with myself for resisting the greasy bacon hangover-killer, obviously I have pretty good self control, because as I stated in my first review, the bacon is so good, you would kill your own mother to eat it. My pizza was served on a tile. Yes, a tile, as if it had fallen on the floor in the kitchen and they just scooped the tile up and said, hey, let's just use this instead of a plate. So it felt more like a slab of pizza, and I felt like more of a cave-woman eating off of it. I mean, I kind of looked like one, since I hadn't showered and had that lingering boozy stench and gigantic lopsided bouffant hair. Hot, I know.
But seriously people, $10 for pizza that will make you so full you have to stick your fingers down your throat afterwards so you can put your pants on, is totally worth it.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I honestly do not understand why this palce is still open or why some people love it so much.. as I like to say : whatever floats your boat.
I've been here twice and I am definately not going back.
The first time I went was night time, it was packed, my dry martini was served in a metal martini glass which totally changed the flavour and it tasted like olive juice more than a martini. My dinning parttner had a poutine and he liked it, I tried it too and it was pretty decent.
I think what I didn't like was the loudness and the fake fire place with cellophane paper in it?? weird.
I also went there for breaskast and it was mediocre. I had 2 eggs and sausage, so did my breaskfast partner. The potatoes were overcooked in overused oil ( you can tell by the color of the fried product) and the plate was covered in dry parsley. I really don't get that.
The service was slow, considering there were only 2 tables to serve.
The restaurant is at a prime location but unfortunately, the food doesn't pull its weight and the atmosphere alone can't make the place positively unforgetable. -
Review from Tim L.
One of the better 4th ave establishments in which to enjoy a Sunday afternoon just chilling out and eating some good ol pizza.
The pennylane is probably my favourite here and is absolutely delicious. Staff are always friendly and there's plenty of room to accommodate people who either want to stop in for a drink, a large group or just an intimate meal for two out on the patio. -

I went to Hell's Ktichen for Dine Out Vancouver...$18 for an appetizer, main dish and dessert...which by the way is a great deal.
I started off with the Poutine, which was ok. It tasted like the fries were baked and not fried and you could taste the difference.
I then had the Soprano pizza. Which had spicy capicolla, prosciutto ham, fresh basil, chorizo sausage, provolone. Being from Chicago, I am kind of a pizza snob but this was pretty good. The meats worked well together and the pizza wasn't very greasy which is great.
Dessert was the hazelnut chocolate mousse including dark belgian chocolate, Frangelico liqueur, thick whip cream, house-made biscotti.
So Hell's Kitchen is a bar and normally, I wouldn't order dessert in a bar but this was really good. The mousse melted in my mouth and was one of the best mousses I have ever tasted.
Hell's Kitchen is a guy's night out, pizza and beer place but if you go with your buddies make sure to have the mousse. You won't regret it. -
Review from Earl W.
Flat beer followed by a gritty, overpriced salad and soggy pizza with so-so crust and too much cheese. The roasted vegetable pizza had so much cheese that the crust was soggy, and the vegetables were not "roasted", just cooked on top of the pizza.
Good place for watching the game though.
Sincerely,
Earl and Janet -

Been here twice now since moving to Vancouver in February. The Poutine is amazing (I know, that's what they all say...but it is damn tasty). Their pizzas are pretty good too. I actually enjoyed my self-made pizza slightly better than the 5th Avenue pizza which delivered good tastes. They always have good beer specials and they're cocktails are delicious. I typically sit in the bar are and watch games and sometimes chat with the bartender. They are pretty good about changing a TV to a different game to meet customer needs. It definitely is one of those places that have a lot of 'friends' stop by and chat with the workers.
I will go back again and watch more sports and drink more beer. -

I like Hell's Kitchen quite a lot. They have a terrific offering of yummy cocktails and really good appies. It was actually their yam fries which set off my yam fry addiction (I refuse to recover from that one!)
The atmosphere in the place is pretty fun, it's a great place to go with a group. Don't go if you are looking for quiet conversation, at least at night the music is quite loud - you're not quite yelling but it is hard to have a conversation (especially when seated under a speaker). -

A Kits bar to keep in mind not only for cocktail hour. It also does brunch and wait times will be FAR shorter than those at Sophie's or Joe's. The breaky will cure your hangover just the same. It's nothing that really knocked my socks off, but sometimes you just need eggs and a Caesar without waiting for 30 minutes to get a seat!
I've always been served in an acceptably speedy manner on my visits. They make descent pizza and the kind of Caesar's that taste like More.
In the right season, they have a small patio that is on 4th Ave and a great way to watch all the yoga-wear and mini-dogs walk each other past.Listed in: Brunch Ideas for the Hungover

Hell's Kitchen evokes so many thoughts or ideas of what it could be, considering the Pizza From Hell sign on the front of the place. You walk in, and it's DARK, REAL DARK, with flames the only real light of the place. I guess it works on a Friday afternoon during the summer, but not during the winter.
Like the other reviews, this is your basic "happy hour" place where the office set go to hit on the office set. The food is what you what you would expect of a "happy hour" place -- pizzas, pastas, nachos -- with the "happy hour" place quality. The Pizza wasn't really from hell, (Hell, it wasn't even New York Style, like they claimed) the pasta was dry, the salad was too salty, and even the drinks were kind of average.
They did the hip music mix going for it (hence, the two stars), but outside of looking for a place to snack on a Vancouver afternoon or after a few beers on a pub crawl, I wouldn't come back. -

I went with some friends on the Saturday of the fireworks. We decided to try Hell's Kitchen out for a bite before going to find a place to sit. To my pleasant surprise, we got right in with a nice table right on the patio by the street (which was appreciated as it was a hot muggy day and the climate was nearly intolerable inside the restaurant)
Drinks were nice. I had a Beer from a reasonable draught selection they had and one of their Mojitos, I must give them props for their selection of Mojitos given a lot of other places don't know the drink. I got a classic Mojito which was nicely made (could've used a bit more lime, but that's more personal taste). My friend got their lychee mojito which looked really interesting and came with a lychee fruit as part of the drink.
Dinner was quite tasty. I got their pizza special, a donair pizza. Everything about the pizza tasted really nice, though a few more toppings would have been nice. I also found myself hungrily eyeing the chicken sandwich and yam fries my neighbour ordered.
My only real complaint of the evening was that when is started to rain, they dropped a clear plastic tarp in front of the patio which obscured the view of the street (which I had been enjoying) and caused the temperature of the patio to rise to an uncomfortable level. Fortunately, we were done our meal and about to head on our way.
Over all, I'd say give Hell's Kitchen a try if you are in the area and looking for a bite, but I wouldn't go out of my way to have a meal there. -

I've walked by this place for weeks, months and even years without giving it a try. I finally dove right in.
I can't remember the exact pizza I had, but it was one of the Vegetarian options.
It was hands down the best pizza I have tried in this city. But, second to the pizza shop in downtown Powell River that makes the best pizza in B.C. if you can fly to it for quick access! -

Breakfast review
I love going out for breakfast on the weekend but breakfast this morning was very disappointing. I''ll keep this short since I'm a bit grumpy about it:
-it took a long time for breakfast to come out and there were only two other tables
-the server didn't ask how I wanted my eggs done for my Benny so one came out super runny and the other was dried up and over cooked
-the english muffin was blackened (burnt)
-the smoked coho was dry (it was a cooked fillet which I wasn't expecting)
- the hashbrowns were ok but how can you go wrong with fried potatoes?
-very little service
sigh...i hate it when a dine out experience turns out to be a waste of calories... :( -

I've never been disapointed with a meal at Hell's Kitchen. Great casual menu, friendly, hip service, awesome little patio area, and fantastic drinks. This place is fabulous.
It's an AMAZING place for take-out Pizza too. Several days of the week they have a Buy 1, get one 50% deal. Their pizza choices are fan-freaking-tastic. The pulled pork with BBQ sauce base is my favorite. -

I like coming here, it's in a great neighbourhood and I've never had a problem here.
The prices are ok, but the food is really tasty. Sometimes they have a DJ playing on the weekends. The last time I was there the DJ was actually quite amazing! I was really impressed with his live remixes and mashups of classic rock songs.
Drink prices are ok, don't go here expecting lots of bevvies for your buck. This is the type of place to just go for a meal or to hang out and maybe have a beer or two, or one of their neat coctails.
My boyfriend had poutine there, and it comes with capers. I didn't try it because it wasn't vegetarian but he assured me that he LOVED it and it has opened him up to capers, which he thought seemed gross before, haha. -

BEST ravioli I've ever had. I had the crab and mushroom ravioli and I KNOW Italian (I eat some form of Italian at least 3 times a week and usually order the pasta dish everywhere I eat out).
I went there with my girlfriend and they waited on us hand and foot (our server was by every 5-10 minutes asking if everything was good). It is a bit dark, but it was romantic (if the nay-sayers want a bright place maybe they should go to Quizno's or McDonald's).
We also tried the Hell's pizza and it was pretty good, although I have had slightly better...but they deserve extra points for experimenting on the fried plantains as a topping.
I will definitely be going there again. Nice job!
