Food is exceptionally yummy here. I've been back several times and have never been disappointed in the food. Would be five stars if the service was better. They were friendly and very eager to please, but I have felt---more than once---that they weren't all talking to each other. Two different people would come by to take drink orders, some one would take our order, and then a few minutes later, someone else would try and take it again. Bit of a comedy, really. But the food is scrumptious.
Favorites are the murg makhni, the lamb madras, Kabli channa, and daal makhni. Garlic naan was a bit too greasy to soak up the amazing sauces, so after ordering that once, we've stuck with plain naan and rice.
Would definitely come back again and again whenever I'm in the mood for some good spice. -

Zero stars...horrible food, uninterested staff
I have never had worse Indian food in my life....the butter chicken is really a very easy dish to f**k up, but they somehow managed to do even that...not to mention that the other stuff we ordered was pretty lousy.... -

I am very conflicted as to how to review this restaurant. So I am going to break it down into 1) food, 2) service, 3) price.
1. The food was amazing. Our group of 6 went with a package meal that included appetizers (3) and entrees (7). Within the appetizer realm we had these tasty potato things. Unbelievable in a sweet, yet spicy, sauce. Onions fried in a chic pea batter, which were okay but no WOW factor, and a tasty beef appy. Entrees included a hefty bowl filled with naan and garlic naan, rice, lamb, beef, shrimp, butter chicken and a veggy dish. All were delicious in the medium spiced sauce. Veggies were the hottest, and the butter chicken was the best I had. While I do not like shrimp, I was told people would come back just eat that.
2. Service was good. Attentive but not over bearing. The owner even came over and explained to us the different types of Indian food and what they meant. Also told us their specialities (shrimp being one). Nice man, but as one of my friends commented - he was a little "used cars man" styled. Guess a little tone down on the cheesiness factor would have been good. With that said, he in no way ruined the experience.
3. This is what conflicts me. There were 6 of us and with no drinks our bill came to 33$, not including tips. The average price of an entree is 15$. We had 7, so we each had 1 + 1/6 of an entree (17.5$ each, approx. based on the average cost). This means that we were all charged 12.5$ EACH for the 3 appetizers (with 6 people that means that we paid 12.5$ for 1/2 of an appy or 25$ for one of the whole appetizers). The numbers just do not make sense to me and I feel ripped off. Plus, if we were doing the "group deal" I would have thought we would have received a little discount (kind of like buying goods in bulk). Sooo despite the good food, the price really left a bitter taste in my mouth. -

I went to Haveli with my siblings not too long ago. So nice to have a change on Clarence street, something other than a bar/bistro/pub type of thing. Haveli is a straight-up Indian establishment that knows what it's doing.
We, three people, were seated at a large table that was probably suited for 5 or 6 people. I like round tables a lot- they're great for conversations- but we were a bit far away from each other! Weird when there are plenty of other, smaller tables. Anywho, we ordered upon the recommendations of our server and were very pleased with our main dishes.
The starter of onion baji was not the best I've had. It was kind of doughy but was completely saved by an amazing, cool dipping sauce that came with it. Seriously, I could put that sauce on anything.
We got the lamb madras, the mixed vegetables and an eggplant dish. Everything was SO good. No complaints about the naan bread or rice either. My favourite was the lamb which was completely tender, melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Eggplant was very nice and flavourful. The only disappointment is that we were told paneer would be added to the mixed vegetable dish but that was forgotten. No matter though, still delectable. Everything had a nice heat to it, even though we ordered mild which makes me think this place is legit. Also, gotta love those serving dishes.
There was a little mix up with the bill at the end of the night, adding the amount taken off by a coupon as opposed to taking it off. But all was handled very professionally and did not leave a bad taste in my mouth. As a matter of fact, we had amazing leftovers for the next day! -

So, we went in as a group of ten with two children. Ravi gave us an option for a chef's choice type of serving. This is my favorite for large groups as there is always enough for everyone and we get to try things that never typically get ordered, notably the Aloo tikki chaat! Ravi was wonderful to my children. A warm and welcoming atmosphere. An enjoyable experience - thanks Haveli.

There is a slight chance that the reason that I had 14 hours of major stomach upset after eating at Haveli was not because of Haveli. But if the best I can say about a restaurant is "Almost never makes you ill" then you might want to give this place a pass. Or at least order something off the menu and avoid the buffet.

What's up with people in Ottawa categorizing Indian restaurants as Middle Eastern? India is in South Asia guys...!
I'm Indian, and am a pretty harsh critic of Indian restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised by Haveli - There were only two dishes that were creamy: the Butter Chicken and the Shahi Paneer, and those two are allowed to be! We had the dinner buffet - The sambar/dosa bar is a great start to the meal - Dosa is a thin crepe made from lentil flour, filled with your choice of chicken or spiced potatoes and served with sambar, a thin tangy soup. There is plenty of variety in the buffet, and even a few not-so-usual dishes. The tandoori chicken was tender and fell off the bone, and the desserts were actually fresh and not rubbery.
The naan was a bit dry from being in the warmer, but all in all - great food, great service, beautiful ambiance, and centrally located. -

I was very surprised that this reputable restaurant does not accommodate people with allergies. I have a dairy allergy and most/all restaurants I have been to - even the lowliest of fast-food chains - will prepare meals specially for those with dietary problems. I ordered the Lamb Saag and the staff was unwilling to make the meal without butter. They wouldn't even make rice without butter. Unfortunately, I had to leave the restaurant because according to the server, every single meal is prepared with butter, except some vegetarian options. Pretty bad, in my humble opinion, especially since Indian doesn't usually use butter in every dish. Needless to say, I won't go back.

Super-good food, decent service. I had Butter Chicken with rice and roti. They brought it out fairly quickly. They also included a tray of some mango pickle, which was good, and some other random stuff (one was chili oil, which went wonderfully with the butter chicken). I stuffed myself silly and enjoyed every minute. They serve beer - I had a cream ale.
The only issue encountered was the wait for our check. Just make sure to remind them after you're done eating. -

This was my second visit. Went to their lunch buffet on a Sunday afternoon and it was so fabulous!! Loved the all you can eat naan, tandoori chicken, and lots of other yummy stuff. Service and price was probably just average but food was most excellent!! Will go back every time I'm in Ottawa.

I was not expecting great authentic Indian food at Haveli but was pleasantly surprised. We went for a lunch buffet and even though the spread is relatively limited the food was very tasty. Lamb mint curry and kheer were probably the best. Strongly recommend this place if you are around the market area. It's very easy to find too.
