Review from Candice W.
St John's, NL
Mingle with the artsy folk and order some stellar coffee at Hava Java. Sometimes the service is a little snarky, but usually nothing but smiling baristas. Try the Sammys -- cheap, and definitely a full, delicious lunch!
This place has free WiFi as well, and is a great place to bring your laptop to get some writing done. Sometimes it gets crowded, though. -

Very friendly yellow space and some of the best coffee we had in Newfoundland.

Thought I'd be adventurous today and instead of going to my regular starbucks coffee place, I strolled in here one morning wanting to try new things. The shop is a cute, warm place to definitely relax, read, listen to music, etc. Reminds me sort of a mom and pop store, since I've never heard of Hava Java until I came to St. Johns for work from the US.
Dont get me wrong, the staff is great and friendly. I just wasnt feeling the chai tea latte with soy millk. I had the server put more honey to sweeten it and it just wasn't hitting the spot for me. I wish I had gone to starbucks to get my chai tea fix. The drink couldnt compare. Now for those who don't like super sweet chai tea, then this may be the place to go. But for me, I was disappointed.
I cant say much about the food, but I ordered a multi grain bagel with peanut butter hummus. Not too bad, except the server had just slathered on the hummus on both sides of the bagel. I guess for the health conscience, ask to only get one side spread. -

This place is a must each time I'm in St. John's. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. On my roadtrip coast-to-coast this summer, this was the first place I trusted to get a good flavoured (hazelnut) soy latte since leaving the Pacific Northwest!
Sit back, read the paper, visit with a friend. Got hit on by a nice-looking fellow here this last time -- he struck up a conversation with me on politics. Good times! :) Be careful about making faces directed at just one person, though -- one wall is covered in mirrors. ;)
They also know how to get hot cocoa done right here. My friends and my kids that I've treated to a cup here have been very pleased.
Great location right in the thick of things. I've met some lovely people here all times of the year.
If you're a fan of Starbucks, you might not like this place. Hava Java doesn't burn their coffee, and each drink is hand-crafted. :)
