Much has been written about the perceptions of a hotel bistro/bar, our family of three has been there twice over the last few months and have enjoyed the food and the service.
In the summer, it was nice to be out in their garden and pool area; a respite from the Richmond traffic.
The prices seemed reasonable and there was ample (pay) parking close by.
It IS a hotel so the ambiance is not cutting edge but at least you can hear your conversations. -

This place has really developed since the days of the Wayfaring Tree. With a cool atmosphere and great food, Harold's is a great place to hang out and grab a bite to eat.
The food quality is superb and they have a great sense of portion size. Weather you want a sandwich, pasta or a steak, the menu has something for everyone. Got a craving for something not on the menu? Their kitchen does a great job making things on the fly.
Servers are friendly and they help make the visit to Harold's complete! Keep you eyes open for the restaurants namesake, who might stop by your table to say hi.
The decor is adequately set to make the restaurant comfortable and inviting. Not to mention the pictures on the wall are great for a quick laugh.
Definitely worth checking out! -

One thing I really like about hotel bars is that there's always a) ample parking, and b) lots of seating (the place was only 10% full when we came by tonight), and c) reasonable prices.
The restaurant is named after their most loyal customer (Harold Cross), who has been apparently been eating here for lunch for over 35 years. According to the website, you can catch him regularly, even now. It's pretty cool.
Parking is ample in the lot outside. If you buy $10 worth of stuff, you get your money back.
There are some 12 beer taps, and also several TVs showing sporting events. Even though it was closed today, there is a large outdoor patio. This should be pretty awesome in the summer.
Wi-Fi is available. Just ask them for a password.
Today (Saturday), 18oz pints of beer were only $5 (Sleeman Honey, and Okanagan Spring Pale Ale).
They have an interesting mix of other drinks as well, such as blueberry tea (with amaretto) for $8.
Staff were very friendly and talkative, which is always nice.
The only thing with this place is that it closes early, at midnight. But this is understandable, as their clientele would be mostly hotel guests who would be sleeping by this time anyways. -

Was just checking out the neighbourhood and came upon this place. It was packed during the one of the playoffs. Decided to come back another day and bring some friends.
We all decided that this wasn't a bad bar/ bistro considered it was in the Sheraton hotel. The decor was lounge like and very spacious, you have the bar situated in the middle with lots of tv space to see the games. Next to it is the bistro that offers a variety of reasonably priced beer, wines, and cocktails. Surprisingly the food was really yummy and the price moderate. They have specials at lunch and for dinner. A lunch special could be soup and sandwich for just $11.00. Also, kids under 3 years old can choose from a selection of items on the menu (hot dog, mac and cheese) and eat for free. -

Yesterday was my second visit to Harold's Bistro and Bar. At first I was a little wary of hotel restaurant but I have decided I am a fan.
The service is above average. The buffalo wings were good (not quite as nice as Cactus Clubs) but still very good. The fish and chips are great (I split an order with my wife and we were both very happy.) The beer is reasonably price (especially on Canucks Game Days;) 22 Oz glass of beer averaged about $7 dollars but on game day it was only $5! Not bad for the Lower Mainland.
I can easily see myself becoming a regular. -

Richmond might be far from where I live but the drive was worth it to go to Harold's Bistro & Bar.
Attending to watch the Lion's game on their big screens, my boyfriend and I met up with some of his friend there. The drinks were flowing, and I have to say all the bevvies were fantastic (I kept sampling one of the guys' as he was getting martinis and cocktails).
Feeling hungry we decided to eat. The menu has a great range, and having a craving for Indian food at the time I was delighted to find butter chicken which I was told was fantasic (I can confirm, indeed it was). My boyfriend had fish and chips which resulted in me stealing half of his chips (hey, I gave him my naan it's only fair), and I must note some of the best quality chips in the lower mainland.
The funnest part is I learned the place is named after one of their regulars! Even more fun, they have taken photos of him and photoshopped them into famous old Hollywood celebrity photos (him cutting Elvis' hair, etc).
The vibe is pretty fun; the mod-ish furniture is complimented with said old phots, great staff, and great food and drink. -

I gave Harold's three stars....but if their "sometimes I dream about it" cranberry bread was driving my scoring it would be a 5-pointer no question. Man, I love that stuff. And they make it with perfection.
Otherwise, its a good after work hangout or place to watch sports games - lots of big screens. The food I have had has been pretty good, great soups. Overall, I like it. And Harold himself seems like a sweet man. I wonder if he knows he has a cranberry bread treasure right under his own nose? -

Me likey! Lunch was a basic tuna and split pea but tasty, cheap, and served lightning fast. I swear they had it there in under 2 minutes. The place is big, lots of comfy booth seating, mellow decor. Next time we'll sit outside by the pool. I could see this being a great spot for summer lunch. parking isn't cheap in the lot but they validate. A must try for a decent lunch if you work in the area.

Nice and modern space
The food was average
The service was horrible
Our waitress did not refill our water glass the entire time we were there (over an hour). She never came back to ask whether we wanted to order another glass of wine. When we finally flagged her down to get another drink, she did not bother with taking away the dirty glasses.
The food was not good enough to make up for the lousy service. -

If you're looking for an alternative to Earl's, Cactus Clus, Moxies, White Spot or BP in Richmond, why not give Harold's a try. The food is average, but you're bound to find something on their huge menu: appies, salads ($8-$11), sandwiches (I like the blackened halibut sandwich) and burgers ($11-$14), pizzas, bowls, pasta, seafood, steaks...they range from comfort foods like meat loaf and mac N Cheese and more interesting items like foot long hot dog served on a baguetter with gruyere with your choice of chilli or pulled pork for $9.
What's more interesting is the story behind Harold's. Harold is the name of a patron who has eaten there every day (its in the newly renovated Sheraton Hotel) for over 30 years. If you're lucky you'll see him there and he might come over to say hi (he's about 80 years old and adorable). The artwork are all fun photos with Harold's face superimposed in pictures with Marilyn Monoroe, Elvis etc.
The service has always been great and they are very accomodating. For example of their salads had blue cheese in it and since I'm not a fan they let me subsitute with Brie...everything is better with Brie.
Last thing, ask for their house bread, its a delicious cranberry cinnamon sweet bread. Delish! -

As far as mid level hotel restaurants go this is a good one. Drinks are reasonable, food is good, and the staff is nice. Nothing stands out to me, but I havent had a bad experience here either.

for a hotel restaurant, there is much to like about it. it is rolled into a lounge, bar, and dining room; you can order wings, burger, lobster rolls or a prime rib. food is good, the beer is reasonably priced, and a decent, relaxing atmosphere....
