Review from Capt. John S.
The Harbour Diner looks like a quirky little neighbourhood eatery - and in some ways it is; cosy, family owned/operated, mix & match furniture from the 60's...
It is also the best home-cooked meal in Hamilton! Chef Chris, his wife Erin and their friendly staff work hard to keep things moving (without rushing anyone). All the food is fresh & freshly prepared (and most locally sourced when available), so it's not "fast food" despite the "Diner" moniker.
Two selections of All Day Breakfast every day and a full breakfast/brunch menu on weekends. Daily specials are always interesting an delicious.
Something on the menu for everyone from "Killer Seafood Soup" to the comfort of homestyle meatloaf. The only thing they don't make themselves are the fresh pies (made locally & equally good).
Prices are moderate or less...and worth every penny. Beer & Wine available too.

Found out about this place from Google Review...12 people gave five stars so had to try. We had Cajun eggs Benedict, Hawaiian French toast, and Seafood soup. Think the main taste theme here is undertone. The subtle coconut taste of the French toast, barely detectable Cajun spice, and almost non-existing salty flavour of the soup - the soup was take out and I added onion salt and paprika to make the taste come out. Like other reviewers, the coffee was good but wouldn't rate it as an out of this world experience. The total bill came out to be $49 incl. tips.
Hamilton seriously lacks a breakfast scene and after a while Cora, Apple Annie, and Egg and I can get tired and taste all the same. So in that sense this place is worthwhile but must say still does not compare to good old Eggstacy (gone many years ago) or Johnny G's in Toronto.

Review from Dean S.
What a small, awesome place! My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by this find (thanks to a friend), especially with things like Fair-Trade organic coffee and delicious breads on the menu.
Many of the plates are comfortably priced with the average bill being in the $8-10 range. There are a few on the extra-low end ($4 for breakfast) and a few on the high end including a 16 oz steak for breakfast.
Our server was extremely friendly despite being the only person working the floor, a brief power outage, and having very little change (and no time to run to the bank!). She kept a level head and made sure every table was attended to in a timely manner.
A well-done dining experience by the staff of the Harbour Diner. -
Review from a K.

The servers were awesome and that was where our experience stopped.
The food was dry and tasted like it was reheated rather than cooked fresh. I ordered the spaghetti and metaballs and my dad ordered the meatloaf and both of us hated our meals. The tomato sauce that they call "marinara" was incredibly bland as were the meatballs and I did not finish it because it tasted so bad. My dad had the meatloaf and while it looked amazing it was dry and tasted burned, it was like they made it days ago and then fried it or something.
The coffee was out of this world and the pies are to die for... we will be back but not for the menu but for pie and coffee. -

Unbelievable eatery. My wife and I were driving from Philly to Toronto and wanted to stop for lunch. We like getting off the beaten path so picked the Harbor Diner in Hamilton out of an ad in a travel mag we got from the Canada visitor center.
Anyway I have a gluten allergy and was pleasant surprised at the waitress's knowledge of the ingredients. One of the items was a fish and chips. I used to love fish and chips before my diagnosis so I made a comment about that special.
The server said that this is the chef's interpretation and a healthy take on the British classic. It was unbreaded fish and roast potato wedges.
As you can guess from my 5 star rating the food was excellent.
My wife had a very rich seafood soup with fantastic ingredients.
In the midst of an 8 hours drive this was a welcome oasis. -

tiny tiny place, tables in each others way, i sat on end near washroom and spent my entire time being bumped and pushed. the food is hit and miss, mine was overcooked eggs and sides. i noticed my dining companions didnt eat much either, thier portions are huge, in fact too much. im sure locals like it. im sure in a different space it might be more palpable, as it is, the location is suited for a small shop not a food place.
