Great place for dinner with friends off the beaten track. The food is also pretty good - try the agedashi tofu or the bibimbop.

Located right across the street from the main village area.
So Spicy Udon, lots of veggies and quite tasty. Very similar to a veggie stir fry with udon noodles. I asked for a side of siracha which helped amp up the spicy factor to perfection.
Bibimbap Beef - not a lot of meet or vegetables.
Good place for late night drinks and snacks. -

Disappointing.
The decor and service was okay.
The authenticity and quality of the food was average to below average. This place can't decide it it's Japanese or Korean. If you want to get some fusion style sushi rolls with bimbimbap then this might be place. But for a place that calls itself an Izakaya the menu is ambiguous.
One would also expect a better assortment of drinks. They had many sake and shochu items on the menu but many were not stocked. The drinks that were available were a bit overpriced and watered down. -

This is an Izakaya restaurant which is like a tapa bar style of eating. Don't come here expecting a traditional set meal, teishoku. Its a drinks and appetizer kind of place.
This place had a really nice interior, honestly could have been in Harajuku. We had the "Arigato" shooter! It was AWSOME, they balance sake on top of a beer and slam the table and yell, haha, and I can't explain it, just do it if you go there. Price is very fair and they have in-house Harajuku beer on special. Funnest Japanese restaurant. -

Super confused menu and mostly izakaya style dishes - not full meals, meant to be shared. They have jumped on the westernized bandwagon of being a japanese establishment that serves inauthentic japanese, korean, and chinese dishes. If you inquire about anything, take the response you get with a grain of salt -- most of the employees are severely misinformed, but will give you an affirmative answer, only to be negated by the girl who pretends to be in charge of the harajuku circus.
The service is eager, and the food is pretty decent. The agedashi tofu used soft tofu, not firm, so it falls apart when you try to eat it, and the batter on the outside is very gummy.
The ramen broth is super delicious, but they cut down on the garnishes since they first opened. You used to get the whole shabang for about $8, but now you have to order everything additionally.
The bibimbap was alright, considering its a korean dish being made by japanese immigrants. The veggies weren't quite right, the rice was undercooked, and there wasn't enough gochujang sauce, but it does come in a really cool hot stone bowl.
In a nutshell: If you want cheap japanese food, without intending to drink a lot, go to samurai sushi. If your main intent is to drink, while eating some food, go to harajuku izakaya.
PS: they charge for tea, which I find completely ridiculous. -

My friends and I rolled into Whistler for a bachelor party, and our first stop was Harajuku Izakaya. It's a fun little spot with smaller tables and booths in the middle and larger group tables on the side. On Friday evening, we got a large table without waiting. The place was fairly quiet when we arrived, but was nearly full by the time we left a couple of hours later.
We were in party mode, but we still managed to eat some food in between the parade of sake and Sapporo. I found that the food at Harajuku Izakaya was a little hit and miss. The grilled squid and chicken karaage we're really tasty, but the daikon salad was awful (more like a KFC side salad than the amazing Guu one we're used to). The black cod was a little pricey for the size of piece you get (served in a wrinkled piece of tin foil), though it was prepared reasonably well.
Despite the fact that we were a slightly rowdy bachelor party, the servers were very patient and attentive. I was actually quite impressed with our server's poise.
Although Harajuku Izakaya would be pretty middle of the road in Vancouver, it was a fun way to kick off our trip. As long as you choose the right dishes, it's a cool place to grab some drinks / snacks with friends. -

This is really awesome Japanese pub food. Some sushi items but it is definitely different than a sushi restaurant. We had an absolutely amazing yam roll that was a daily special. Also had a spicy tuna roll that was perfectly good. I just wish we didn't order it because I think there are more interesting things on the menu we should have tried. The fried aji was very good as was the bibimbop.
Really happy with the service. The waitress was extremely sweet and she gave us her honest opinion on the different items on the menu, which I really appreciated.
The only thing I don't love about this place was the music. They played super bad cheesy dance music that made me feel like I was in a bad club in Vegas.
Other than that one thing I completely recommend this place. Totally awesome. -

We had a great meal here. It's a hole in the wall. Doesn't seem like much from the outside, but quite a gem. Good japanese food, good prices. Menu has a little bit of everything. Saturdays are half off the bibimbop so it's only about $5. Sushi rolls were good and generous. They have a few private tables. We had the agedashi tofu was good too.
