I go to Hap's for brunch almost every weekend.
It's hard to put my finger on exactly why I love Hap's so much. I absolutely love brunch and will happily fork out $$ for delicious food at higher-end places (Culina being one of my absolute faves). However, for my regular weekly brunch-ing needs, Hap's delivers.
They offer an extensive menu of breakfast favourites, the prices are low, the service is quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is lively. One of my favourite things about Hap's is the diverse clientele. Everything from groups of hungover teens to seniors to families pack the tables. Even if there's a line, you are almost always seated quickly and a pot of coffee is brought right to your table. (This is one of my favourite features, actually. After a late night, easy access to a pot of coffee and a jug of ice water are worth their weight in gold to me!)
If you are looking for a fancy brunch, this is not your place. But if you are looking for bacon and eggs, lots of coffee, a bustling family restaurant-style atmosphere, and/or a cure to your hangover, Hap's is the place.
p.s. Another important thing for hangover brunch: the hashbrowns. They're good! (cubed and served with green onions) -

I'll admit, I've always been cautious about Hap's Hungry House. I drive down Stony Plain Road and wonder about the sketchy location and definitely judged this book by it's cover.
But when I needed a delicious breakfast pick-me-up and was in the area, I took the opportunity to be proven wrong. And I was very wrong about it! Hap's is a great establishment, with tons of breakfast options and a great lunch menu to boot.
Outside, Hap's might look it's age - it's been around since 1982, after all. But inside, you're transported to a cute country diner which should be on some roadside in rural Alberta.
Breakfast lasts all day at Hap's, and I suggest you get some. My eggs were cooked to perfection, the Texas toast was large and delicious, and the meat selection was unreal! Do you want sausage? Beef or pork? Pastrami instead? Or how about you do something totally crazy and order a Reuben omelette?
The coffee, which they brought to our table in our own coffee jug, was fresh and tasty. The service was friendly and fast.
After a filling and scrumptious breakfast, we were on our way, leaving behind the quaint diner - but a return trip is definitely in the cards.Listed in: Bacon and Eggs

Breakfast at Hap's. Serving breakfast for over 27 years. Greeted with a smile were asked to choose any table we please. We take a seat right by a window and in front of the daily specials. Coffee for two and were greeted with our own coffee jug.Soon after receiving our menus I decide on hunger buster 2 because of my inability to devour hot cakes I sub for French toast. Bacon, pork side, and breakfast sausage for my three meats along with three over easy eggs and two pieces of brown toast, my feast is ready to be made!
Unfortunately this feast took a bit over half an hour but it was well worth it.This thing was massive! With barely any room left at our table we began to devour our meal. After setting down my plate the waitress wanted to take my eggs back into the kitchen because they didn't look right but I said they were fine, which they were anyways but I was still impressed with the level of service!
I started with the hashbrowns that were browned to perfection. Slightly crispy on the outside and perfectly soft inside just how I like them. Eggs were runny enough to dip my Texas toast in and the bacon was flavor country. The perfect fat to meat ratio. Last but not least, the french toast. I haven't had french toast in a while so this was a great refresher. Fluffy and light with semi sweet syrup, I couldn't stop eating even though I was beyond full. After all that I still had a piece of toast left that wasn't happening. This was a great experience and I hope to return soon. -

I've been wanting to go to this place since we drove past it. We went with 5 people at around 11am and got seated five minutes after in a table that is usually for 4. The whole restaurant was filled so this was not an easy task. There were coffee cups a spoon and a napkin for each person. I know that Hap's is a breakfast place but if we do not need coffee cups they should be taken away so there would be space.
Anyways I got a small omelette called the works and it was okay. I think it could of been better and something was missing. The one thing I liked was that you could have a choice of small or large omelette and the small was perfect for me.
I doubt I will go there again because I'm not really a breakfast fan and their menu did not appeal to me. -

By no means is this remotely any kind of health food... By no means! Tastes good, just as Denny's and Smitty's and all the others do, but swimming in oil and grease, so... Nope, not "heart healthy". This restaurant is a popular hangout among the hungover teen crowd on Saturday and Sunday mornings, as well as the baseball-cap wearing, Dodge-Hemi truck driving blue collar crowd. If you're looking for a fill- up on a weekend morning due to a rough previous night, go for it. But fine breakfast dining, this is not!

If you are looking to sit down and grab a great breakfast, Hap's does not disappoint. It's nothing like Denny's where the food usually doesn't taste good unless you have been drinking.
Hap's is surprisingly busy but once you try it you can understand why. They have home style cooking that allows you to choose form a great menu. You can expect the basics like pancakes, eggs, sausages but they do it proper.
Hap's is the type of place that makes me wonder why I would ever eat cereal. -

I don't know why I love this place, but I do! Egg Benedict isn't made with real hollandaise, but the sauce they use is pretty good. I've never had anything besides breakfast foods there, but breakfast is great!

If you are looking for a place that embodies home, Hap's is the place for you. This homey little restaurant has a great atmosphere and great food. It is my top choice for breakfast in the city - and trust me, I know my breakfast. The prices are good and the servers are friendly. One of my favorite features of Hap's is the fact that you get your own coffee pot at your table! How brilliant is that?! It saves the servers time and I have all the coffee my little heart desires! That coffee is especially delicious on a cold Edmonton winter morning. I don't know who Hap is but he or she has won my heart.

Hap's offers genuine home style cooking. I went in for breakfast here and to my surprise, the place was packed. Who knew that Hap's is such a popular little eatery? Well, apparently it is, as after barely finding a parking space, I had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Hap's offers wonderful breakfast menu that includes pancakes, eggs, French toast and milkshakes. As per my dining companion's recommendation, I ordered hotcakes (which is another name for pancakes) and scrambled eggs. Ten minutes went by very fast, and as my order arrived, I was shocked by the size of the pancakes: they were enormous. My order included three pancakes but I could only eat one, and it was delicious - fluffy, airy yet savory, especially when paired with maple syrup. Scrambled eggs were good too. Paying $8 for this breakfast felt like a steal.

We tried this place for the first time over the weekend and all I can say is "what took us so long?". A great independent breakfast establishment that puts Denny's or Smitty's to shame - good value and great service in a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere. I waddled out of there after eating two of the biggest, fluffiest pancakes I've ever had the pleasure of eating. I'm looking forward to going back next weekend.

First time at Haps was good. I would come back again. We showed up at 10 on a Sunday and the small place was packed but we only had to wait for 15 minutes before getting a table for 4. Nobody at the table was disappointed with their food. Omelette is a recommendation although the hashbrowns were just okay. The waiter did not refill our coffee as much as needed but ended up bringing us our own pot.
