I loved this place. You could tell that the food here was made with care, and their banchans were excellent. On more than one occasion, a very nice lady from the kitchen would come out and show us how to make a ssambap with samgyeopsal, even though her command of English was limited. I'm so sad that the place is gone and is now under new ownership and under a new name. I hope you guys can read this so you know how much you're missed!!

The ambience is simple, even plain, but the food is excellent and the service friendly. Our first waitress was a little challenged by our non-existent Korean fluency, but was quickly swapped out for the son of the owners, who was able to handle our English with ease, and was friendly and helpful. Later in the meal, an older gentleman checked in on us, I suspect he was the father/owner, but I didn't ask, so I can't be sure.
It's not quite as pretty decor-wise as Seoul House just west of this location, and the prices are pretty similar. That said, the friendly service more than made up for the difference in decor, and the food was as good if not better.
Finally, the at-the-table BBQ offering at Seoul House required you to order a minimum of two items of the same kind, where Hanil House had the same minimum order, but allowed you to mix up the kinds. That gives a lot more flexibility for a smaller meal, and allowed us to get a greater variety. That alone was enough to win us over.
