Review from Simon K.
I used to work in this area and would walk around to try to burn some time on my lunch breaks here. I have not been back in a year, and walking in again was kind of a treat to be in a very nice Korean market. Do not think of this as a T & T equivalent from what the Chinese get, as the products here are more top notch than that of the big chain of T & T.
I came here Saturday and forgot about all the free samples of this place, and how you can get lured quite easily to buy things you intended not to even shop for. In terms of pocket, they got my money, but I felt happy with what I purchased as I was able to try what I was buying. The produce is very fresh, and definitely positioned for the eyes to see. The meats area also very red and fresh in terms of color, and I have purchased meat here before for my home hot pot meals, you may think, so lean, it cannot be good, you would be mistaken!
They have a great selection of Korean labeled food, from dried goods, frozen goods, to even the cooked "ready to eat" selection, they have something there. The bakery is not too shaby either, they also have a home section, where they sell stuff like fridges, rice pots, utensils, slippers, Korean branded of course!
A recommended stop off from the normal grocery shopping, I cannot wait to stop here again when I am in the neighborhood. -

At first I was Happy to see that I'd be spending some time in the area where this large Korean store is located.
But after spending a good forty minutes looking carefully @ the place I now think I'll never go back.
First off it stunk!
I mean all I could smell was rotting meat, aged produce and seafood that was going off-this reek permeates the whole place.
The whole store needs a serious cleaning-dirt was visible in many corners-somebody isn't doing their job or management doesn't consider cleanliness important.
It's in no way a welcoming place-quite the opposite in fact-I never saw a smile or a kind look on any Staff member's face all the time I was there.
They either hate working there or each other or everyone in the place or all three- seriously I've been in friendlier correctional facilities.
Prices on average are at least 20% more than comparable stores downtown and often even more-this is for produce & seafood.
Dry goods were about 10% more than comparable Asian supermarkets on Kingsway and selection overall was unremarkable.
Prepared food was pricey but not exceptionally so-selection & freshness variable at best-I could have found something for lunch if the reek hadn't made my guts clench.
Maybe Koreans find some attraction in the place-paying a premium for goods with Korean writing on them-but seriously there's nothing in the place you can't find fresher and cheaper in other places. -

Was pleasantly surprised when I saw an H-mart upon my visit. It was annoying that I couldn't check in since I didn't know it was listed as Hanahreum Mart on yelp, that and cause I was on sprint and would've died on the internet roaming charges.
Seems like an average H-Mart, nothing special. Kinda bummed that they didn't have the Lotte Fruit hard candies that I liked though. -

Also known as H-Mart, this grocery store specializes in Korean food, although you'll also find a smattering of Japanese and Chinese imports as well. It has wonderful produce and deli sections - with one corner dedicated to kimchi (spicy cabbage pickle) alone.
There is also an awesome seafood section, with tanks of live lobsters and fish, and pools of live clams for the picking. You don't see this sort of thing too often at grocery stores anymore... when I spied whole fish on ice and a tub of bright pink octopus legs, for a second, I thought I was back at Tsukiji Market in Tokyo.
I picked up a salmon onigiri for a snack, and I'm happy to report that the rice cake was fairly bursting with moist salmon, making my old favourite variety from Fujiya seem positively dry and stingy in comparison.
Prices here at H-Mart are also very competitive. I plan to stock up on cheap kimchi ramen bowls while I work nearby!Listed in: Shopping for food

Been ages since I've set foot inside this H-Mart (didn't even know the 'H' stood for Hanahreum) - since I rarely am in the area of the Coquitlam Korean Town.
As the other reviews mentioned - it's a Korean supermarket. Like most Korean businesses, it's very authentic and you would think you're in a supermarket in Asia - live seafood, electronics section, bakery, furniture, clothing, ready-made food, etc. Pretty much everything under one roof.
Came to buy some uber-cheap Korean energy drinks but was disappointed to see prices have gone up (they used to see by the boxful for ~$5 and it's twice the price now). So I wandered around the aisles and made a discovery: this place is probably the best place to pick up imported Japanese foodstuffs. Almost as much variety as Fujiya, but far cheaper. For example, they had 3kg bags of buckwheat soba noodles for $6 - $8 at Fujiya buys you 800g.
Gonna make the drive out to Coquitlam next time I'm stocking up - way cheaper than Fujiya and easier parking than the H-Mart downtown. -

This is part of the large H-Mart chain of Korean groceries. It has a wide variety of Korean food products and electronics and also offers some other Asian products (mostly from Japan and China). The live seafood section is probably the highlight of the store with a large variety of very fresh (still alive) seafood that they will prepare and clean for you upon request. They also have a location in downtown Vancouver on Robson, but the prices and selection at this location in Coquilam are much better.
