I've been going to Hammam for years for one thing and one thing only: facials ($130 plus tip) from Ashley. I've been to a lot of spas, and she is as skilled as they come. I love the steam room when it's not full of chatty bitches and gross men sighing and groaning like they're at the Oakwood men's only Steam Bath, if you catch my drift. And the towels have shrunk over the years, which makes things a little more exciting than they need to be.
The spa itself is gorgeous and smells like eucalyptus and freshly bathed babies, although the change room floors are sometimes a little dirty/hairy which freaks me out, and is really kind of unacceptable at these prices. -

As anyone who knows me well knows that I am obsessed with getting Shellac manicures. I've been getting them non-stop for over a year and have no plans of stopping them anytime soon. I do have my tried-and-true salon where I go regularly however I like to try out a new place now and again. As I had heard the Hammam does amazing Shellacs I thought I'd give them a try.
The only hitch in this plan is that when I called to make my appointment I was curtly informed that they require a credit card to hold any appointment. The thing is that I don't have credit, I did at one point however all it did was get me into trouble and I got rid of all my plastic some time ago. When I explained this to the receptionist I was told that if I couldn't provide a credit card number the only way I could secure an appointment there was to come by in person and prepay my serivce.
I had a bit of a problem with this as why would I just randomly throw down cash for a service I haven't yet gotten at a business which I've never actually set foot in?
I find policies like this just make the business look unwelcoming and money hungry. How about believing in someone's integrity to actually keep the appointment that he or she is making? Because get this, I actually was very enthusiastic about trying out this spa and oods are I would've become a repeat client, however affter being spoken to in the way that I was forget it, I'll give my business to a spa which actually appears to want it. -

I just had a fantastic experience here and felt I need to share. First off, the place is very pretty. I just felt good as soon as I came in. Nice music and decor, lovely music, and very clean. I arrived a bit early for my appointment and was shown to a relaxing waiting room, equipped with refreshments.
Once my appointment time came around, the esthetician showed me to the a comfy seat where she was going to give me a pedicure. Before she began, I was offered more refreshments.
She was very gentle with my feet. The massage felt like heaven. And the wax treatment was phenomenal. By the time she was done, the awfulness of winter had melted away from my feet. They felt soft again, and my nails looked amazing. Definitely beach worthy.
When I went under the nail dryer I accepted her second offer of refreshments, and asked for water. It had a hint of cucumber; very refreshing indeed.
I plan on returning to try out other services. -

First of all, I'd like to observe I didn't have any "spa service" there. I went for a shellac manicure just because it's across the street from my work - super convenient.
It's a beautiful, super clean, well decorated spa. They will treat you like a princess. Everything smells like paradise. I was waiting in a beautiful room for my manicure, who asked me if I wanted standard shellac or this new "gellish", which she preferred, because it lasted longer and the results were awesome. I was sold. I want that, now.
Then, paradise suddenly disappeared. The manicure chairs were not so comfy - I am small and had to bend over the table for her to reach my hands. The amazing fantastic gellish polish was just not amazing, and after two applications in both hands, and lots of " trying to fix this", she finally agreed that it was awful and the amazing gellish she was using was not of good quality, and she had to remove it. Fallback to standard shellac, simple, fast application. But I spent one hour and a half there. And the most expensive manicure of my life. And didn't even get a hand massage!!!!!
Not coming back AT ALL. For 50 bucks, they should have covered me in gold! This must be a joke!Listed in: The Beauty and The Beast

Not the best around for $135 / 1h massage.
Perhaps Hammam Spa was better when it opened; but the interior is beginning to feel and look tired and run-down.
The lobby / entrance feels and looks dirty. It is difficult to tell if the light coloured bamboo floors are just dirty or stained from years of use. Either way, it detracts from the overall first impression. Not the end of the world.
The men's washroom / changeroom floor suffered from the same dirty/stained appearance (not pleasant when you're walking around in bare feet). The washroom area again, looked either dirty or stained from years of use. Clearly, the fixtures and finishings are tired and worn. The showers are dark, claustrophobic, and grimy feeling. The shower door frames had clearly been welded backtogether following a failure; but the sloppy weld job and exposed cracked tiles were signs that this place needs some serious investment. The hot water suddenly ceased to flow during the shower, leaving me in fridgid water for about a minute; pleasant! The shower faucet was covered in some kind of grease or gunky soap scum. I feel like the lighting was intentionally dark, not for ambiance, but to hide the decay.
My massage was ho-hum. I feel like my tiny RMT was overwhelmed by the amount of effort requried to work out my kinks... perhaps my fault for not requesting someone stronger. You do not get to choose your music (Bob Marley covers done with a sitar?) nor your massage oil. The RMT was nice enough to to bring water / tea at the end of the massage.
The co-ed steam bath is ok? I feel as if Hammam is trying to pass this off as a feature simply because they do not actually have enough room for separate facilities.
The reception staff were friendly and courteous. Though during check out, only one staff member was present and apparently she was getting and earful on the phone from the owner. I felt bad for her as she looked incredibly apologetic to the line up of customers waiting to pay; but probably felt as if she couldn't tell the owner to shut up for a minute. (Where was the other cashier??)
Not sure I'd go back.
For a few more dollars, Stillwater offers a much more pleasant spa experience.
If you just want a massage without the spa add-ons, avoid this place - just have your SO do it. -

Hammam stands alone in Toronto by offering a co-ed turkish-style steam bath plus spa services.
The steam bath is an oasis from the city's hustle and bustle. The essential oil scented steam fills a dark, restful grotto where bathers enjoy the reguvinating effects of steam therapy. The steam bath is by far my favorite - I would go here once per week if time permitted. Go, spend a few hours and emerge renewed (and your skin will be amazing).
Hammam also offers spa services. I have had a deep-tissue massage that was perfect.
Facilities are VERY clean and guests are well attended to. Hammam is a great spot. -

I've been for two massages. Both were good, but I really, really enjoyed my massage with Jenna. She was focused and did exactly what I asked. I was very stressed and tense before and amazingly relaxed after.
The atmosphere is nice. Hammam smells good. The service is good. You can steam before and after. It's clean and organized.
It's about $30-$80 more than I'm used to paying for a 60 minute massage, but the atmosphere is nicer than, let's say, Sutherland Chan. And if you like to steam, you'll love it here. I'm not a big huge fan of steaming, but I find the overall experience here very relaxing. I'll be back. -

I am a spa lover. I consider visiting the spa a reward for all my hard work. Visits aren't cheap by any means but if the quality and the service matches or exceeds the price, then I leave a blissed out camper.
So Hammam... what do I say about you? I can't say many good things.
We booked a Couple's Package which comes with a steam room session in the communal steam room, a massage and a facial in room which accommodates you and your partner.
The steam room was...steamy? I really enjoyed it. The steam was naturally scented with eucalyptus and some other herbs/plants. I felt calm and relaxed. The kinks in my muscles melted. It's important to keep hydrated when you're in the steam room and the spa has water pitchers and glasses right outside the steam room. The boy... well he didn't enjoy it as much. He found it too hot (duh).
The couples massage was okay. The massages were supposed to be done in the Swedish style but frankly, the pressure was so light and we didn't really feel the benefits.
The facials or "facials" weren't that great. It was rushed and all they did was cleanse and slap a mask on. I could've done better at home.
So did I leave Hammam blissed out? No... and I won't be back. -

I went to Hammam Spa on the 21st of December...I was finished work and this was my first day of vacay until Jan 4th 2010, what an amazing way to start a vacay...other then jumping on a plane and flying to a hot country with a hot man.
I had purchased the gift cards in a charity auction at work, so I had a good amount to play with. It took me a few days to think about what I wanted to do and I finally settled on an hour massage (so I could write some of it off) and an algae wrap. As you all know, I'm a self confessed spa snob....and with all of the places I have been to I have never done a body wrap.....well....what a treat.
My day started with getting there early, I wanted to take advantage of the full spa, and since I was on vacay I had nothing else to do. The staff was very sweet and checked me in right away. I was taken on a tour, told where to change and given a key for my locker.
I wasted no time in filling out the forms, changing and making a mad dash to the traditional Hammam steam room. It was very dark, and very beautiful. Built of slate the cool tile was a nice break from the warm sent infused steam.
When it was time for my wrap, I was gathered from the steam and taken to the room. I must admit that it was a weird but very cool and relaxing experience. The lady preforming my treatment, Shelley, was so sweet, and very wonderful. She explained everything and made sure I was comfy when the actual wrapping took place. Next I was off to my massage with Emily and that was just as amazing! If you happen to get the same treatments that I received, try to get these ladies.
To finish off my day I headed back into the steam for a bit. In total I was there for 5 hours and it was well worth it. I will admit that the prices can be a bit steep if you're used to other places, but I think that it's due to the area where the spa is located....it is King West after all. -

My girlfriend booked a couple massage, which was OK, but not spectacular. Well, actually she really liked hers, said it was the second best massage she ever got (I guess the one I gave her was the 1st best :). I think I may be more demanding, so I would only give mine 3.5 out of 5. Also, it's a little on the expensive side - price was $125 each for 1-hour RMT massage.
On the good note, the steam room (which is included in the price) is fantastic - the decor, the amount of steam, the temperature, the scent - everything is perfectly balanced and puts you into blissful tranquility if you're able to relax in a coed environment. The water decorated by citrus, the large silent TV screen and clean elegance is a nice touch. -

I'm a massage queen. I used to get them regularly but due to my travel schedule not as much. My preference is a male masseuse and typically walk away if there is none available.
I just got back from a 2 week vaca, while I should have come back relaxed my back was totally stiff! I slept on the worst bed and airplane seats make for a backache.
Due to year end, it was virtually impossible to schedule a massage anywhere. Thankfully Hamman is close to my office. Someone canceled and took me in. cami was my masseuse (female). In my condition I had no business being picky. I asked her to only focus on my back. She was AMAZING.. absolutely amazing! I literally died and went to heaven..
I'm in Toronto every other month and plan to make a regular visit to Hammam. Two thumbs up.. Thanks Cami!! -

A friend and I decided to take a pampering day today so we booked individual treatments for early in the afternoon. I had requested a 60 minute Swedish massage. The massage itself was just ok - I've had better. I normally get a massage every month so I know good massages.
The ambiance was ok. When we got there (2:00pm) hardly anyone was around so our expectation was that it would be a nice and quiet afternoon.
We changed and headed to the steam room. Yes it is dark but not as dark as I had imagined from what everyone is writing about and I thought this added to the relaxation. As we waited in the tea room for our treatments, this is where I was most disappointed. You could hear people walking across the floor from overhead. It was loud and continuous. Then there were random guys dressed in street clothes that kept walking by. They obviously weren't there for treatments and looked like construction workers. It was a bit creepy seeing as we were sitting there in bathrobes.
Overall, I think this place is over-priced and too hyped. For the amount that I paid for the massage, I could've had the same treatment at Elmwood (my fave spa) and had a mani pedi done. After we paid for our services they didn't even provide an RMT receipt for the massage (which is standard nowadays). I won't be returning to this spa anytime soon. My BFF was lucky - she didn't spend a penny for this experience since she was trying to use up a gift certificate for her service.
