    This place is really inconsistent.

I recently tried their 30$ 6-course tasting menu and it was alright only because of the discounted TeamBuy coupon. For the regular price of 65$ it's not worth it at all. This place has high prices for the quality of food they serve.

The employees are nice enough, but the location is totally in the middle of nowhere out in the industrial area of Bridgeport on Number 5 Road.

If you like pork, I have to recommend their braised pork belly (or is it pork hock). They do it a little differently so it's not super salty like how most other Chinese places prepare it.

Completely agree with Jeffrey Q. The food is definitely not worth at their regular price. I wouldn't even pay the 30 bucks again for 6 course meal they presented me with. Employees are nice but once they realized that we weren't really happy with the food they took our bills and came back with 15% tips added by hand on it. I understand that this was norm for the coupon users but it is not right for them to present with one bill without it then without telling us, take the bill and fix it by hand and bring them back to us AFTER knowing that they weren't going to see much tip. It was really ghetto because the tip wasnt' even included in the final price. It was added by hand on the bottom and when using VISA, they plugged in the tip themselves after taking the machine from the purchaser and returning it to them to plug in pin number. I would not return ever nor would I ever recommend. In fact, I would strongly advise to friends not to go there.

    FOOD

Jumbo Tiger Prawn Cocktail - was okay. It wasn't really a shrimp cocktail. it was just three shrimps on a bed of some greens. One of our friend's shrimp was rotten. When we showed it to the waitress, she just took the shrimp and brought back one shrimp on a small bowl. I'd think that a restaurant would do a bit more to please a guest who found a rotten shrimp with black rotten shrimp meat over the salad.

Kobe Beef Meat Ball Lollipop, Slow Cooked tomato sauce - It wasn't bad. It was okay meatballs. Nothing spectacular but the tomato sauce tasted like they just poured it out of can.

Cream of Neptune Seafood Soup - it was good but then I realized that I did not order a cream of mushroom soup with some unknown seafood bits floating around. It tasted exactly like Campbell's Mushroom soup. There was small bit of imitation crab there too. And I really do not mind Campbell's mushroom soup time to time - just not at a restaurant where I am paying money for them to cook.

Wok-seared Angus Beef, Jasmine Rice - this was the worst of all. Food court's Koya does it better. The sauce was straight teriyaki sauce that tasted like it was just store bought. Food wasn't even hot. I assumed that they just have bunch of sliced beef pre-cooked and heat it up on top of rice and pour some teriyaki sauce on. I honestly would've preferred food court's.

Coconut Pudding - This was okay. Nothing special but I enjoyed it.

This is my first stop and incidentally my Xmas dinner meal! Unaware that we weren't going to have a traditional turkey, stuffing, and mash, my supper was quite satisfying! Hakkasan is off the beaten path, in what I may call the more industrial area of Richmond. This is Chinese cuisine with a modern take. Our dinner was packaged up or what Montrealers might call a Table à d'hôte (set meal & set price) which included salad, soup, our main course and then we got dessert.

My choice was the following along with my thoughts of it:

Lobster Ravioli: Definitely had lobster in it, but definitely overdone pasta part of the ravioli. The tomato sauce was reminiscent of canned tomato. Not good in my books

Imitation Shark's Fin Organic Salad: Fabulous dressing, crispy lettuce, I never seem to know what shark fin is generally imitated with, but I will leave that up to imagination. This was great.

Signature Pork and Fungus Soup in Young Coconut (Double Boiled): I don't eat pork, but the fungus was great, and coconut was delicious.  I have never had anything like that before! It was served in the coconut shell, and unlike the rest at dinner, had no difficulties removing the coconut meat from the shell. (I got skills)

Dungeness Crab with Garlic and Rice: I wasn't sure what to expect as the description just made me think of a large crab leg a head of garlic and some rice, but it was actually quite nice. The garlic mixture and the crab - very, very, tasty combo, and the rice was just really comforting. We had to crack it ourselves which left my brother in a snit, but overall it was good.  The only thing about it that I could say could improve was the oily-ness of the dish. The rice soaked up a lot of it, and although tasty, it still made me wonder how many calories were ingested, and how clogged my arteries got.

Black Sesame Glutinous Rice Balls in Sweetened Broth (Tang Yuan= literally Round Balls in Soup) : I have an extreme weakness for black sesame; it is my Kryptonite. I have never cared much for the sweetened broth and always leave it, These were no exceptions, I enjoyed them immensely, which sort of started my black sesame binge of the end of 2011, I digress)

Total cost per person was $40 without any drinks for the prix-fixe dinner and I think it's absolutely reasonable for any Christmas Day meal. As for ambience, and service, I found the staff very attentive, well spoken in both Cantonese and English, and helpful. I think it's worth trying out, but I can't say it's my favourite restaurant of the trip!

This place was brutally overpriced, service was mediocre and it took literally an hour to get our first appetizer after ordering.

I was actually embarrassed for the restaurant. It's like someone tried to turn an office space into a nice restaurant and failed miserably.

We came here for dinner cuz my friend bought indulge living coupons which $29 pre-fixe 6-course meal.

I have been there many times, however, the food was worst than before.

We ordered the few different things from pre-fixe menu and found the food was terrible!!

Curried seafood stuffed Escargot - too much curried sauce and escargot was tiny!
Organic pumpkin soup - it was ok, not too creamy and smooth.
Deep fried prawn - Even worst than Japanese tempura.
"SO call" Kobe Beef - the sauce was so sweet!! Beef wasn't tender at all!
Salty free range chicken - the portion was small and tasteless!!

We ordered extra desserts after we finished the crappy dinner.
Lava cake - it's good, but not impress at all
Steamed egg white - it's so watery!!

I frequent Hakkasan quite often. Their service has always been good, and their food has always been good. The coconut soup is the BEST!.

I haven't had their Indulge Living Special as some yelpers have quoted, but I've been in for other $29 dinner specials, and they have been splended.

People who live in Vancouver know that Richmond houses the best Asian restaurants of the entire North America....and I am not joking.

Hakkasan, located in quite a remote location in a very industrial factory complex, sort of out of the way from the hub of the Richmond social scene...but my mother insists that I try it with her cause she thought I would like it.

Well, I liked the idea of it....the food was innovative and the restaurant's ambiance was contemporary Asian chic.

Taste-wise...It was good but not the best. We ordered the Torchon Foie Gras, which was the best part of the meal..but then again I had better Foie than that before. The chef's special appetizer was good...I like the baked welk..cause it was pretty and flavorful, but the rest was just ok..they put shark fin on the salad, which I thought was unneccessary.

We also ordered fried fish...which was douced in the sweet and spicy sauce...it was good too....the sauce was very overpowering but I could still taste the essence of the fish.
I wasn't blown away by the reccommended hakka pork belly with rice...it was way too sweet and salty. I was really looking forward to trying this dish actually and was disappointed.

My mom wanted noodles so we ordered a yaki soba...but we were too full to finish it..and didn't even have room for dessert :( I know!....I asked the waitress if that was too much and she said you could always take it home...but then I don't like taking food home, it takes away the idea of eating it freshly prepared there.

Disappointed! Wasted our time & money.

The concept for modern fusion chinese food is great. Price is ok if you don't look at what they serve you. They use cheap ingredients and small portion but ask for high price. You could have much better selection in Greater Vancouver with that price.

If you want to try something new & different but don't mind wasting your money on cheap eats, please go. Service is slow and not friendly. If you order something not on the menu, better check with the server first or you will be surprised how much they charge you.

I never would have come across this "contemporary Chinese cuisine" place on my own. My dad had driven past it during work and wanted to try it with us.
We tried the "bowls" course they recommend for first-timers.

    GREAT:
+ cold Chicken (kind of like Hainanese Chicken, but more flavour!)
    + Eggplant with chili
+ the salad dressing (thousand island-like)

    Fine, interesting, but unnotable:
    - the curry-thing in a shell
    - cheesecake

    Disappointed
    - Prawns (boiled? were too hard)

They have expensive course meals (like foie gras), but also normal-priced. I think our course was $20-$25ish per person.

I'm sorry that my fellow yelpers before me did not feel this place merited more praise. The 4 of us loved it. Menu was short, interesting, beautifully executed, great service. It wasn't inexpensive, but when you are comparing it with restaurants downtown, it certainly wasn't expensive (it's just eating Chinese food in Richmond, I don't anticipate spending much).

We had a couple of dishes you could preorder, like pork cheek, salted chicken and ?? and fungus soup - great! If you are looking for sweet and sour, or chowmein, don't go here, menu is more Fusion/Contemporary as they describe it. Not so sure I would want to try some of the overly westernized items though, like the foie gras . .  .who knows. Will definitely return (and it's a short walk from the Night Market that's on during Summer).

My boyfriend and I visited Hakkasan after purchasing a voucher from IndulgeLiving. First of all, the location seemed sketchy for what was supposedly "fine dining". It was in the middle of no where in an industrial area. This was the least of my concerns. First, the waitress tried repeatedly to upsell us on higher priced menue items so that we would pay beyond the voucher price. It took us over an hour to be served our first course (and this was with the restaurant being less than 2/3 full). We left 3 hours and a $100 bill later (we purchased some wine) disappointed and puzzled about what had just happened. I felt scammed. The food was poor and comparable to most run of the mill hong kong style cafes or dim sum restaurants. Definitely not worth the price tag, even after discount. BEWARE.

My mom had been wanting to try Hakkasan ever since she heard about their tapas lunch special in an ad on some Chinese radio station. I'm usually not a fan of "asian fusion" or "comtemporary" Chinese restaurants because a lot of times it's just overpriced and pretentious style-over-substance food that doesn't taste quite "right". Even if the food is good I'm still thinking, I can get this dish just as good, if not better, at a legit Chinese restaurant for half the price. Unfortunately, Hakkasan was no exception. Plus, they served way more store-bought already-prepared food than I care to see at a restaurant.

In addition to the weekend tapas lunch, we also ordered a few items a la carte just to try. We started with the CURRIED SEAFOOD STUFFED WHELK (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...). This was actually really yummy and I loved the Portuguese curry. Next came the PAN-SEARED FOIE GRAS (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Unfortunately, I can honestly say this was one of the WORST foie gras I've ever had. Not only did it taste totally off, they dredged the foie in flour before searing it, which gave it a weird off-putting spongy appearance. Good foie gras doesn't need any manipulation - just salt, sear, and serve. Quite frankly, this foie was poorly cooked and just didn't taste good--AT ALL. The flavours didn't work and the green salad served with it was so uninspiring. Worst of all, they had the audacity to charge $22 for the tiny portion. I felt so ripped off, especially since I left most of it on the plate.

With the TAPAS LUNCH you get a choice of 4 tapas (for the whole table), a soup, and an entrée. The Chinese soup (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) was tasty but quite salty. For the tapas we got the garlic wings in broth, chilled baby conch, wontons with black truffle, and duck pate (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). All four were decent but unremarkable. The wings (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) were bland and surprisingly tough. I've had much better wontons (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) at other restaurants and not even the black truffle could save them. The duck pate was served on what appeared to be Breton crackers (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). At least the conch (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) tasted fresh and were good with the sweet sauce.

For our first entrée we chose the "special" SALT BAKED CHICKEN LEG W/ RICE (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). The chicken was very tender and salted well, but I didn't think it was THAT special to warrant the "limit of 15 orders a day". If you ask me, they're just unnecessarily hyping it up. Our second entrée was the GRILLED EEL HAKKA BURGER, which was basically some eel with lettuce, pickle, tomato, and mayo in a steamed mantou bun (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Nevermind that the mayo was sloppily plopped on one side, the typical burger toppings just didn't pair well with the eel. It was also served with store-bought veggie potato chips (see picture). I mean, really?? You couldn't have made your own chips?

We also ordered another set lunch of SPICY CABBAGE & PORK CHEEK MINI POT RICE (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). The flavours were actually really great, but it's a fairly simple dish that you can find at many other Chinese restaurants. Plus, the rice was overcooked and really mushy--and this is coming from a person who likes her rice on the soft side.

The chef's dessert duo was grass jelly (surely from a can) with one raspberry and store-bought cream puffs with chocolate sauce (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). If I wanted store-bought food, I would've just gone to the store.

At the discounted 50% off price the tapas lunch is not a bad deal, but I would've been really pissed if we had to pay full price. What did piss me off was that we had to pay for tea - that just seems wrong at an Chinese restaurant in Richmond, even if it's "contemporary".
