"KASHCOOL everything around me, C.R.E.A.M. get the money, dollah dollah bills y'all!"

That was the opening line I had chambered back before this place changed its name.  What a waste.

Fake initial review aside, Hakhamanesh is a passable place for Persian.  (Riva B.'s only two reviews happen to be for this place and alerting you to the name change of Kashcool.  What a kooni.)

Service: a well-deserved 4 stars; particularly excellent given our circumstances.  My Iranian friend and I strolled in five minutes before 9pm on a Friday night and were the only two people in the joint.  Realized at the end of our meal that their doors close at 9pm and yet the chef and staff stayed behind and politely served us without dropping so much as a hint until we asked.  For that, we were grateful.  But closing at 9pm on a Friday?  C'mon, North Vancouver.  Step your game up!

The food, however, was hit or miss.  I'm not Persian, but don't let that fool you.  I've been slingin' homemade Ghormeh Sabzis, Khoresh Fesenjans, and Koobidehs out my home kitchen for years now.  The Mast-o-Khiar (yogurt appetizer) was forgettable as they use that dry ishh rather than fresh mint.  The Tadic (crispy, burnt rice) topped with Fesenjan (pomegranate-walnut stew with chicken) stood out, but the Koobideh (ground sirloin kebabs) fell flat in flavor which was highly disappointing.  And as we all know, when us persians (and honorary persians) go out to eat it's all about the kebabs, nomesayin'?!

Don't go expecting next-level Persian food because you'll be sorely disappointed; this ain't LA or your maadar's kitchen.  But for what it is, North Vancouver represents in its own way.

    Nooshe jan, bitches.
